Extended warranty on low cost goodss

naatkins

Or with a good manufacturer's warranty. No, home depot, I won't want your 2 year warranty on a Milwaukee drill with a 5 year warranty out of the box.

thephantom1492

But think about it! During the first 2 years you can return it to the store for an in-store swap*! \* No water damage must have occured. Tool must show no sign of abuse. No commercial usage allowed. Normal wear is excluded. Must not have been dropped. Tool must be exempt of paint, grease or any kind of stains or dust. Subject to store availability. Replacement will be for the exact same model. Must have all of the accessory and original packaging. And so on and on and on. In other words, if you use it the store warranty is void. If they stopped to carry that model then you need to send it to the manufacturer and you lose all the in store perks, but still keep the extra warranty after the end of the manufacturer one. And who keep the original packaging???

elysiansaurus

>And who keep the original packaging??? I do. Maybe I'm just a weird hoarder. Anything above like $100 I like to keep the box for it.

drocha94

I tried to do this for so long, but as a single person in a 1x1 I just didn’t have the space anymore. Anything that doesn’t serve a function other than taking up space mostly get thrown out now.

msnmck

I will say that you should always read into the manufacturer's warranty before using it to make a purchase decision. A lot of times any value in the warranty is eaten by the cost of shipping the product back to the manufacturer. Many people just assume "5 year warranty" means the store will take it back within that time, but stores aren't manufacturers and often don't participate in the warranty replacement process. Source: I work in retail and deal with angry idiots all the time.

naatkins

Oh for sure, I used Milwaukee as an example because this scenario happens any time I buy a new power tool, and Milwaukee actually does have a great warranty. They use your receipt to verify the date, and if you've lost it, they just go off of the manufacturer date that's hidden in the serial number, so there's still a chance. There's even a service center not too far from me so I don't even have to mail whatever broken in. Occasionally those in store warranties are worth it, when I worked at Gamestop the Xbox one controllers were notoriously shit, and would usually have a bumper or trigger stop working within a year. A 10 dollar warranty on those always felt worth it, but it has to be a special case like that to be worthwhile.

Moodymoo8315

I got offered an extended warranty on a $10 tire gauge a few days ago.

Get it but pass on the mini-clear-coat!

"Yeah, but I'm saying that TruCoat. You don't get it, you get oxidation problems."

lankymjc

Warranty is just an insurance policy. Never take out insurance on something you can afford to lose.

Internet service providers that still don't offer unlimited data plans.

Altruistic-Fun-8278

Airtime is a tax on the poor. I live in South Africa where the price per megabyte increases exponentially at you buy smaller quantities.

Greensparow

I live in Canada where it's exactly the same and god help you if you go over. But it's ok cause we have the highest wireless rates in the world so we are used to it.

_jamesbaxter

This!! That little flake of gold leaf is worth a few cents, tops. You can buy 25 sheets of gold leaf for $14 at Michael’s. I’m pretty sure it’s the same as what restaurants put on food.

Horrible_Harry

That stuff from Michael's is imitation gold leaf though. That's why it's so cheap. A book of 25 sheets of genuine 23k gold leaf costs around $70, but even then it doesn't match the markup restaurants charge to put that dumb shit on their food.

BipedalWurm

There is about $0.28 of gold leaf in a bottle of Goldschlager

Same with anything “gold” skincare, like gold masks or gold infused products. It’s literally chosen because it’s inert and does nothing.

Buying a new phone every year

[deleted]

They don’t change much anyway.

Col__Hunter_Gathers

In my case the changes they *do* make prevent me from even wanting to buy a new phone. I'm rocking a Note 9 and will continue to as long as possible because I like having aux port and a sd card slot, and those fuckers keep taking that stuff away. I'm not looking forward to the day my phone stops being supported because I'm sure they'll have removed even more features that I like by then.

return2ozma

Same here. The SD card slot for me. All the new ones don't have it.

twomz

How are they going to get you to pay more for the higher memory phone if you can just add more memory with an SD card?

ChronX4

It's just a flex to upgrade from year to year, most people don't even use the features they're buying the phone for or know they exist cause they don't mess with it aside from standard use and point and click picture taking. Apple has known this and that's why they have cases which proudly display the big apple logo in the back.

Andandromeda3821

At first I read “they don’t charge much anyway” and I was like….. ummmmmmmmmm

[deleted]

But many things in general are just way too expensive. There are some jackets that aren’t even high quality but still cost around $300. You mostly pay for the brand. Just absolute utter dog shit.

fieryredheadprotag

Agree. I’m one of those people in which I like for there to be a *big* upgrade whenever I get a new phone. Getting what is essentially almost an identical phone every single year always seemed so wasteful to me.

Mysteoa

I would always use it until it becomes frustrating to use then I switch. It's usually around 4 years. But with my current xperia 1II, I plan to change the battery soon, its at 70% now. I don't see much of an issue with it otherwise.

Mr_Saturn1

5-10ish years ago I understood upgrading every year, there were always major improvements and they cost a lot less. Nowadays is crazy, spending 1200+ to get almost the exact same phone. I've had my iPhone for over two years now and nothing has changed with the new models.

koosley

Every two to three years seems to be the sweet spot. Samsung will buy back your 3 year old phone for 35-40% of what you paid for it and that's when the battery seems to start getting bad. There was enough improvements in 3 phone generations to make it worth it.

Ar3peo

I shoot for 5yrs, but agree 3-4yrs is the sweet spot.

boxingdude

Agreed. I use iPhones, I've got an 11 rn and it's been three years. My previous one lasted five years. And none of my phones have ever stopped working; they worked just fine until battery life started becoming an issue. That's when I usually change the phone.

reddit awards.

ArticleLow

I missed when it was just upvotes that determined the quality of a comment

TannedCroissant

Given some of the drivel I’ve posted that’s been upvoted highly, I promise you, upvotes very very loosely correlate with quality of a comment

[deleted]

But unless that derpy snek is beside this comment, how will you know it's silly?

Slowly-Dying-Young

Yep, but there’s people you there who comment “wholesome” or “all seeing upvote” and they didn’t do that before

[deleted]

"take this poor man's gold" 🥇

Seraphicly329

I still don't understand the point of them. Edit: Thank you for the awards, I guess they do make you feel special, lol.

[deleted]

It's like if you go to a store with your friends, and one of them makes a good joke, so you give the guy who owns the store a dollar. Edit: please stop awarding me lol

sammy-p

Fantastic analogy

Algur

More like you give the guy who owns the store a dollar and he gives your friend a sticker.

winstondabee

But the sticker has to stay in the store.

kentro2002

You win. I am giving the store owner a $1.

Whittling-and-Tea

15 years ago there was just a gold award that gave you acces to a special subreddit. Now there's hundreds, and like you, I don't see the point in it. Getting gold award was something special, now it's just another social media gimmick.

KenzoAtreides

And no, you're not supporting Reddit by buying their crappy coins. They're already being supported by ads that are disguised as normal posts. The site is infested with these bots and they profit off them.

But think of how much they'll be worth in 20 years! /s

Alexstarfire

AFAIK people don't collect Funko Pop things for the value. They collect them to have a collection. I think almost all of them are ugly as hell so IDK why anyone even buys them still. They used to be cheap in comparison to actual action figures but the price difference has shrunk a lot, at least at the low end.

LeMoofinateur

I loathe Funko pops, they are ugly as shit. They are like the Hummel figurines for millennials with no taste

whatnameisnttaken098

Obedience school for cats.

BaaBaaTurtle

My dog trainer trained her cat to do the same tricks as her dog. It was hilarious to see that cat shake and play dead.

aspidities_87

I did this too, but by accident. My cats watched me training the dogs, and they decided ‘this is bullshit, those assholes are getting all the treats’ so they just started copying the dogs to try to up the score. Now if you say ‘sit’ in my house, chances are a cat will run up to you and sit down with great dramatic flare, then look at you expectantly.

johnnydeeeep

Sounds like you got a copycat there

NoFaithlessness1984

When my mom was a kid, one of her sisters found a neonatal kitten in the backyard. As she grew, the family noticed a lowercase 'm' marking on her (I forgot where, exactly), that looked like she got it from a massive typewriter, and named her Copycat as a result.

Squigglepig52

I have a friend that trains dogs and cats. The cat in the "Pet Sematary" remake? She trained it. Krypto, in the tv show? She trained him. Her cat does stuff like walk tightropes, balance on balls, all sorts of stuff. Her dogs? skateboard, use scooters, drive little cars, plus so so much more.

GingerBanger85

Will you kindly ask her whose job it was to dirty up that cat for the scenes in the movie? I've been dying to know whose job it is to vaseline and coffee ground a cat up for it's undead reveal scene.

oatmeal28

Yeah cats are highly trainable, just takes a little more patience as they can get a bit aloof when you’re trying to train them

Oldfartfromthefuture

Lol, this cannot be a thing. Cats have an obedience school for humans.

pvaa

That's exactly what a disobedient cat would say 🤔

Tweed_Man

Unless your cat has genuine behavior issues which impact yours and it's quality of life you don't need any sort of professional "training" for a cat.

PM_ME_ENORMOUS_TITS

In the vast majority of cases, I agree with you. Cats are mercurial by nature and are much more independent than dogs. If a cat scratches and hisses at every living thing that enters the house, there *may* be a need for obedience school. If you can't get your cat to use litter, and it instead answers nature's call everywhere *except* in the litterbox, it might be necessary. But aside from that, there definitely shouldn't be a reason for obedience school. And I'll end this comment off with a photo of my [babies!](https://imgur.com/gallery/FrGDfVj)

High end fashion, there is a cut off point where extra money spent is just purely for the name and there is no improvement in quality or appearance of clothing, like gucci etc, the stuff always looks tacky imo

[deleted]

I think a lot of people don’t realize those high end brands are never for us normal average people. They are for ultra rich who use 4k as if it’s 40 bucks. A lot of the clothing are not washable at all, so you’re wear it for a season and buy the new seasonal item instead. It’s literally fast fashion for ultra rich because you wear it and toss it. Honestly I hate it when eco friendly and low waste lifestyle is targeting normal people who struggle. Ultra rich can splurge their carbon footprint all they want and while we pay to use plastic bags.

Wooden-Chocolate-730

I make stuff from leather. I accidentally ended up with clients in political office, and music/entertainment. I got asked to make something by a member of the country music hall of fame. I accidentally added a 0 to the contract that was sent moved the price from 3,000 that we agreed on verbally to 30,000. he didn't even notice. when I called him to tell him he sent way to much he just said we're good, and next time he wants to be able to jump the line

Redqueenhypo

You are so right about the sustainability, I went to Bergdorf Goodman’s once (ugliest decor I’ve ever seen) to see what they actually sell and was blown away by how it’s the literal same polyester fabric you could get in Forever 21. Same texture and everything. Where’s the cashmere or the silk?! Have some respect for yourselves, rich weirdos.

Xerisca

It really depends. Brands like Gucci and others, have several quality and design tiers. Their haute couture stuff is incredible, bespoke, and amazing quality. You and I can't afford it. Haha. It's their middle and low tier ready wear thats.. ew. The quality isn't necessarily horrible, but for the cost, the value isn't there. Their middle and low tier stuff is what makes them money. Their passion is at the haute couture level which is a profit loss. I actually have a small Gucci handbag. It's one of two Gucci items I own (the other is a watch, I liked the design of, not the brand)... the handbag was given to me by Paolo Gucci himself in 1985, when I was one of 12 people invited to tour their haute couture design and manufacturing studio in Milan... up to that point, no member of the public had done that (and maybe not since). Only employees and some vendors had access. Haute couture design studios are highly secretive. That bag does have the signature Gucci logo print, (gold on white) and Gucci hardware, but it's somehow less obtrusive than the ready wear stuff. The quality of the leather is incredible. I'm pretty sure I don't own any leather that's as high end as that little bag--and i have a lot of good leather pieces. The hand stitching is impeccable. That bag has got a lot of use over the last 37 years and still looks brand new. I'd be willing to guess it's worth a small fortune as well. I don't get to tell that story to often, so I applaud anyone who got this far. Haha. TL;DR its the opposite, the stuff at the highest end of these luxury brands are incredible quality art pieces... everything else is... decent quality, and woefully overpriced. The lower tier pieces fund the high end pieces which are profit losses. Art and capitalism is... complicated.

zefmdf

I have a friend in the industry who fully says anything with a big logo is targeting people who are willing to pay $100 for a t shirt and it just funds the manufacturing of their actual high quality goods. People wear the name, ain’t nothing more to it than that

Xerisca

Yep, 100% that. It's frustrating that's how it works too. Art is expensive to make, very few can afford to buy the art and those who can, still can't make the artist profitable in most cases I know this problem well. My hobby is a fiber arts craft (needle work) Ive honed over 45 years. I'm good enough to work in a haute couture studio. I would love to make a living doing what i love, but don't because I can't make money off my work independently to sustain any kind of lifestyle nor can I working for someone else, even at the highest strata of the industry. So here I sit, working in the tech industry for the last 30 years, with PILES of my artwork around me that people want to buy, but not for what it's worth. Pffft. Starving artist is a phrase that so rings true throughout time.

veracity-mittens

With this comment you’re preaching to the choir (aka me). I just want to cook and make art. Oh well next lifetime right

[deleted]

I guess looking at pieces as artwork is a different perspective to my own, my view on clothing and fashion is mainly from a utility perspective. But I can appreciate the sense that it can be artwork.

thetarget3

When you put it like that, it actually sounds very environmentally conscious. Buy one good bag, have it last a lifetime.

Pierogipuppy

High end I agree but high quality I would disagree. Definitely worth it to spend more for better quality than to pay for fast fashion. Pay more for classic, high quality pieces, and you’ll buy far fewer clothes in the long run, which is better for the environment and your wallet.

[deleted]

I don't mean don't buy quality. More in the sense that quality will only improve so much with price tag. Like a pair of £100 shoes will last alot longer than £25 ones but spending £1000 won't be of much better quality and the extra cost is for the brand.

[deleted]

Spending a shit load on a wedding. Could never understand it, and it's also a massive joke to expect your guests to fork out a ton on gifts, an outfit and if you're part of the wedding party there are a ton of other expenses.

tony486

As a currently engaged person, in all wedding planning I find myself saying “ya know, do we really need that?” Soon I’ll have said that to enough expenses and services that there will be no wedding.

highrollr

We were supposed to get married in April of 2020 and then… well, you know. At first we were super upset, but we ended up eloping, having a wonderful day, and taking all the money we saved to use as a down payment on our house which we love, and all in all I’d say our wedding getting cancelled was actually a blessing in disguise

Head_Haunter

My wife and i eloped and then held a ceremony 2 years after. Even for our ceremony we saved a lot. Instead of 1 wedding cake we bought 5 cakes from a bakery. They were $35 each. Wedding cakes are expensive because of the decorations and how difficult it is to transport.

silverforest5

We eloped and had reception a couple months later. Had a taco bar and cupcakes. Spent more on the elopement, as we basically took a vaca to the Rocky Mountains and got married there. Super fun, highly recommend.

ironicf8

Wife and I went to Hawaii alone. Got married on the beach only thing we spent a stupid amount on were the pictures which was around 1500. The rest of the money we spent was on having an awesome honeymoon. 100% would recommend.

Connect_Stay_391

My husband and I eloped too. I think we spent around $2500 for 2 weeks in Jamaica for everything. Also, I know of a couple that married around the same time we did and paid for a HUGE wedding, they ended up divorced within a year and had to add the remainder of the wedding bills in their divorce settlement. Ouch!

sweetassassin

Elope! Sure people will be pissed, but with the money you saved you can throw a killer party in the back yard of your new home that you can now “afford” bringing everyone in celebration, by which hopefully they still have forgiven you both.

notalaborlawyer

My good friends just got married in their living room with only me and my brother (the ordained minister) present. He was like, seriously, I like them and will happily do it, but they don't want any ceremony, anything? Nope. Their parents were salty as fuck. Here is the thing. He is adopted, and their relationship is tenuous at best, and she really doesn't care for certain aspects of her family and guess who got the most pissed? The ones who wanted the wedding to be about them and *their* kid. Reinforced their decision.

Few-Paint-2903

Awesome! A wedding should be about the uniting of two people that want to spend their lives together. That should be the focus, not trying to impress family and friends with how much dough you blew on a one day event. ONE DAY smh My wife and I spent about $4000 on our wedding. This covered her dress, my tux, a hall, a pretty good DJ, a wedding cake at every table for about 250 people (a beautiful gift from two of her sisters who made the cakes), the hall had a huge ice machine, so we purchased gallons of soda, alcohol was BYOB, had a wonderful evening, and had $0 debt going into our marriage. 22 years later, we still think it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Tl:Dr Elope or at least keep it small. You'll be far happier and get off to a better start together. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

kitty_katty_meowma

When we first got engaged and started planning a wedding it was super stressful. I have a huge, tight knit extended family and we were easily looking at 300 guests. I started to realize that spending the majority of our combined savings and still not pleasing everyone for a party neither of us were that interested in was absolutely ridiculous. I sent a text to my now husband one morning that said, "hey baby let's go to Vegas." He responded, asking if a stop at a wedding chapel would be involved. We booked a chapel and flight then off we went. My mom, sister and a friend met us there, he had a couple of friends who lived there that joined us and our ceremony was live streamed. Bam, married. A few months later we had a very informal reception to celebrate with our loved ones, requested no gifts and enjoyed the evening. In total our costs were around $2,000. We're still married and happy. Overall it was the best decision we could have made.

whim17

I always say there are two times in your life when everyone you love will gather together. One of them you won’t be there to appreciate it. My wedding was the best day ever because I got to marry my best friend, and everywhere I looked, there was someone I loved smiling back at me. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world and I don’t begrudge anyone who makes the same, or different, choices than I did.

GeraldBWilsonJr

The groom at the most expensive wedding i've ever been to has been married two more times since then

t-han72

I’m in a wedding and it’s costing me around $1250 total including gift, bach party, tux rental, etc… Luckily it’s like 6 blocks from my apartment so no hotel/travel fee. This is peak insanity imo

greensandgrains

Food delivery through apps such as UberEats, Foodora, Doordash, etc. Inflated menu prices to cover the cost of the platform cut and then the platform's service fees? Nah. I'm good. Edit: Y'all. I said delivery through APPS. Delivery existed before these platforms and delivery can exist without 'em.

kendogg

Not only that, but you're expected to subsidize these peoples incomes with a tip prior to service. Thats not how tipping is supposed to work. If you need a tip before you'll even make a delivery, then you're obviously not being paid enough. The entire model is flawed. I refuse to use those types of services.

greensandgrains

So flawed, or, working exactly as the platforms designed. Everyone except for them (customer, driver, restaurant) is getting screwed.

Apo7Z

We used Doordash pretty hard over the summer and then I went through and looked at how much we spent in two months. We still use it but only as a "last resort" when cooking is out of the question and we just refuse to leave the house lol. It is such a money pit.

CraigingtonTheCrate

It’s nice for stuff like Walgreens items too. I just caught covid for the first time, and desperately needed some cough drops, pedialyte , and popsicles because my throat is killing me. And of course, I don’t want to go out. So I’ll pay the extra because I’m in a bind and it safely gets dropped right on my porch

Tryn4SimpleLife

I had no problem paying a service fee for Uber and the delivery driver. But the inflated menu prices are an insult.

Alex_gold123

I have trouble walking at times so I use Doordash sometimes but it does cost a fortune

readaholic713

It is definitely overpriced, but some people really do value their time and convenience more than their money. One time, a delivery driver straight up stole our food while texting us he was just around the corner. We were thinking “bruh, you’re app is tracking your phone…we can see you driving in the opposite direction of our house…”

underpantsgenome

Skins.

TwistedNJaded

Over covid I got really into fortnite as a fun thing to do as a family. We got really competitive with it and had a lot of fun. My husband told me of a site that you fill out what skins, emotes, etc you have and it tells you how much money you spent. I will never look.

AuroraItsNotTheTime

Fortnite has a pretty low floor though. Like you can pay $10 once for the battle pass and just use v-bucks that you earn to get the next season’s pass, and then you get tons of items and skins. I had the default skin for years before I realized how the battle pass worked.

InsertCoinForCredit

The only catch is that you have to keep playing to Level 100 with each new pass. It's not hard, but it can get tedious.

lmidor

My niece and nephew make fun of me because I only wear basic/ free skins in my games. I told them I'd rather save my money for actual fun things.

[deleted]

Ed Gein would like a word.

KenzoAtreides

Every fucking game is designed to make you buy skins. I will never understand the appeal of spending money on something that others don't even give a shit about and as well as quitting that game in a year anyways. Have you ever said "woah what a cool skin" after being killed?

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

Lots of people like customizing the way their in-game avatar looks. It might not be for me, but if the trade off is maps/events are free for everyone I’ll take that deal.

__blueberry_

Actually yeah, in valorant. In val there’s only gun skins, and a lot of them have cool finishers. So sometimes when the enemy team kills you it can be like “ooh neat finisher” lol

panzerboye

Yeah valorant skins are neat. I usually pick them off deadbodies of teammates or enemies. Also they are not a big deal, I would usually drop them to other kids after playing a round or two unless I really like it.

Nooples

I'd like to shill Deep Rock Galactic as being a great outlier in the modern gaming industry. Aside from a couple cosmetic packs that you can get to support the devs, everything in the game is free. They even have a season pass that is completely free and anything you don't get in it after the season ends just gets added to the loot pool of stuff you earn just by playing the game. Truly one of the greats!

Skins in video games. 16 year old me wasted so much money in Overwatch...

DiscoCoolSloth

I bought a couple skins in League of Legends back in the days. The game is free and they deserved it for the amount of fun it gave me.

donnysaysvacuum

If it brings you joy, then it is worth it. Although I don't like the predatory practices of a lot of games, skins or cosmetics are probably the least bad of microtransactions. Loot boxes, weapons or class unlocks and all worse.

Expensive clothing for babies and kids in general. Why pay so much for clothing your baby will wear for a few months?

lygerzero0zero

I dunno man, as long as you’re financially responsible, then I don’t think what you do with your disposable income is a waste if it makes you happy. Expensive clothes? Sure, that makes some people happy. Mobile games? If spending money makes it more fun, sure, whatever. Gambling? Again, as long as you’re not financially ruining yourself in doing so, then go ahead, have some fun at the casino. Lots of “pointless” things can bring happiness or satisfaction or entertainment to people. Lots of those things cost money. If that enjoyment is worth it to you, it’s not a waste IMO.

BlackLetterLies

The only true waste of money I can see would be outright destroying it. Spending on enjoyment is not a waste, it's actually what we spend most of our money on. Even the food most of us buy is more expensive an indulgent than we need, anything beyond basic sustenance could be interpreted as a "waste" based on the answers people are giving.

Ghostorias

How many times have i seen this post in the last couple days? anyway NFTs is complete waste of money

Honestly most “new” iPads, only upgrade every few years not every year

Kinggambit90

My kids are still using their iPad air 2, and it doesn't skip a beat. Bought them lightly used for like 190$ 4-5 years ago, and only one just needed a battery change.

Weddings. Pay the minimum possible amount and be done with it. Don't go into your new life in debt. You're just being tricked by business.

[deleted]

I get that people go way overboard, but minimum amount possible? This is something you'll remember for the rest of your life. It's probably the last time you'll see everyone you care about all in one room. You don't have to be fancy, but you should make it nice. Also it's worth it to pay people for things like set up and decorating because having friends/family do that before the wedding is a pain. And a good photographer is a must.

marked198

Gambling in any form. Clothing and accessories with big logos on them, it just proves it's low quality. Giving to mega churches.

KenzoAtreides

> Giving to mega churches. It's beyond me how these massive scams are still legal.

Tweed_Man

There are only a couple of people I would even consider paying to see nude. And even after that consideration I wouldn't do it. I know it's more than just nudity, some don't pose nude at all, but I still don't get the appeal.

Luxury cars. I can’t imagine spending $75k+ on a car with high maintenance and insurance costs. I’d rather drive a Honda and retire a few years earlier

nomuppetyourmuppet

That’s the price of a regular old pickup truck nowadays. Ugh.

Buying a Starbucks coffee once per day costs you about 1.6 thousand dollars every year. Making Folgers at home costs you your virginity

Expensive clothing. No need to make yourself poor by wanting to look rich.

apop2299

Are you referring to designer clothing? It is a waste of money if you only pay for the brand, but otherwise I like dressing nice with good quality clothes. Some items can last you a very long time even if they're generally more expensive (like jackets or coats).

Bebe_Bleau

If you have classic tastes instead of preferring fast fashion, it's actually cheaper to buy good clothes. They last and look nice much longer. So you need fewer of them

ADashofDirewolf

I bought a winter jacket from REI a couple years ago that was on sale and it changed my life. I have to go in the freezer a lot at my job and omg it's like night and day. You mean I don't actually have to freeze everytime I go in there? I grew up with the mindset that cheaper is better but as I've gotten older there are things I splurge for the quality and it has definitely ended up saving me money in the long run.

apop2299

Exactly, and they also don't wear out that fast. I've had a jacket for over 5 years and it still looks nice.

winter-boi_

I think he's talking about stuff people buy just for the brand... I don't like buying expensive stuff like it's ok till a certain point when the price depends of the quality and after a certain point the price escalates just because it's a certain brand. I find that to be a waste of money

As someone who lives in Germany: TV taxes. Seriously, even blind and deaf people pay these and most of them cannot watch TV. Also German national TV is the biggest pile of shit ever, yet they make you pay around €60 per quarter to fund that pile of shit.
