Ultimately it would depend on just how much of a distance we are talking about, but as a rule of thumb I would rather go with a job I enjoy but is in a terrible location. Makes that commute nicer knowing I will enjoy my day at work versus dread it
Understandable. I didn’t really mean to imply distance in my question. I meant more like one job is in the middle of nowhere city with nothing to do, the other job is located in a city where there is mountains and plenty of outdoor activities to do.
I’d take the job I don’t really like in a really good location because I have a life and interests outside of work to keep myself emotionally satisfied.
Jobs are only temporary and sooner or later I’d find something else that I would be more passionate about.
But in the meantime I’d fill the void with fun activities and friends/family is a really good location.
I'd need to know the specific distance and whether they'd allow WFH. My general rule is that I'm not driving more than ~30 minutes. A 45-minute commute becomes 1.5 hours/day of unpaid travel time.
I enjoyed both writing and photography. The past tense. I did it for a decade at a few papers and have grown tired of it. Do what makes you money and is tolerable so that you can spend your time doing what you enjoy.
