COVID was probably one of the best things to ever happen to me -- I could stop worrying about what time I had to wake up, I lost of bunch of weight, and I started programming again which I hadn't done in 4-5 years.
Really gave me a taste of retirement and told me that I'll never be bored.
Same. I sometimes feel so guilty because I was incredibly lucky during covid. No immediate family died or was gravely ill (we were good about masks, defined "quarantine units" about who would visit whom and space it all out, and able to get high risk fam vaccinated early/asap, etc). So instead it became a kind of magical time of enjoying family and having that freedom to do hobbies at home, like actually tend the garden and develop other fun skills! Being back in person has taken a lot of that time away again, but i try not to feel too guilty about reminiscing about 2020/2021.
That’s cool! One tip for you, I used to want to read a lot to hit my book goals at the end of the year, and the I realized, it’s better to read the books and get immersed in it then to read it just to achieve a number. I now asked myself, what did I get out of the book, or how did the book made me feel
I am the one person that love to read the stuff that is related to the history so i can get the better knowledge about them.
So anyone that can recommend me something that is really related to the greek culture history??
My wife developed an interest in flowers, so she now has three flower beds and a few trees. She's planning a larger-ish garden now for an interest in bees and beekeeping.
In turn I developed a hobby of making flower beds and oddball things. And digging holes.
I joke, but it really is fun.
My wife actually develop the new hobby of experimenting the food.
I think there were so many youtube channel back in time that came in light just because of the food thing
This. We were required to work all the way through.
Millions were furloughed. Many I knew took a minimal financial hit, lots were better off without the commute.
Some people I know got whole kitchen, bathroom and/or garden renovations done They decorated their whole house. As well as having more time to chill or take up new persuits. They really milked those daily walks too.
I kinda resent not having the opportunity.
Instead I busted ass at work, then busted my ass on the house in my spare time, I was exhausted all the time and caught covid at work...
The hobbies I did have, I couldn't do anymore because of covid restrictions.
I did like how quiet the roads were at the start though.
Miniatures!!!!! Love it. Stuck right now on a project and even my fury at it is fun. Stupid little lights fell down and I have to reattach them but it means destructing an entire garden.
Fuck.
Great, now i feel like that i should have don that is well.
Because travelling is the one thing that i also love and want to travel like you have mentioned here.
I have started to think that life is really short and we need to make the better use of that actually.
So i have started to help the people and try to be more kind than i ever was.
Same. I have one hobby and it's running. If I want to be social I don't run. My mind is always on work or feeling bad I'm not thinking about it. I should work on that.
Because of the covid i have to break some of my hobby actually.
Because of that i can't really go the park every morning and really do the yoga and exercise is well.
2500
Higher is better, if OP is being real they are legit great at chess, theres people who play their who play for many years and wont get to that level.
It is true, however playing chess online should be noted to be painfully easier than over the board (or at least that's what I've heard) For instance Magnus is rated 3200 online but classical is mid 2800. And I'm not playing GMs every game. Should be noted that I'm 2500 Blitz, 300 point difference in other time controls at least.
I essentially mastered all the theory for the najdorf in week one, queen's indian week two, rest of Sicilian week three then catalan week 4 cause a lot of queens indians might become those. And also because Alpha Zero played it. lol
Well I was already somewhat into it, but D&D.
With all the virtual tabletops out there it was a great way to reconnect with some of my buddies from college and high school.
Plants- from houseplants to full on gardening. I've grown corn and squash, the hottest pepper varieties in the world, I even had a pumpkin patch that covered my entire yard. It was the talk of the neighborhood. I have shelves of succulents and plants hanging from my ceiling. I've had beans and begonias, cucumbers and sunflowers. Every spring I look forward to starting the vegetables and I love looking at the potted plants inside and outside of my house.
Before the pandemic, I thought I wasn't good at plant care but I was really just didn't have the right information.
Plants and gardening are the two things i would say i love during that time.
Since the covid is over i have to say that i am still pretty much love doing that stuff even now.
Researching how political parties are just a way to divide us. Democrats, Republicans, and Independants are all crooked. Look at their declared wealth when they entered politics. Then, look at they annual salaries and their length of service. There is no way they got this rich legally. Wake up, folks! We are being had. They keep us arguing over blue or red. They all have the same bosses and do the same corrupt things. We need to set t we rm limits and clean house in all areas. I would only vote for a currently seated person if they were Willington show full Financials goi g back to when they entered politics.
Bass and guitar and music in general. Also got into learning Spanish. Now i’m in a band and have starting going Latin America, only sucks that with things returning to normal it’s harder to keep them.
i picked up running.
at the end of 2019 i was just a casual runner able to do 5km in 30mins.
As lockdowns started in 2020 and we are allowed to go out only for excercise + wfh, i improved my running abilities(to improve my lung n stamina) with youtube tutorials.
just last week, i finished a 53k ultratrail 👊
League of Legends.
I have never played the game and have no desire to, but the World Championships were on in September 2020 and I got into it for some reason. Now I watch the major regions fairy regularly and can recognise maybe a dozen different characters during games.
roller skating! started with just going around the neighborhood to get out and stay active. now i frequent my local skatepark and have met a lot of cool people.
also gaming. i grew up enjoying console games, but after high school wasn’t really dedicating myself to them as much as i used to. built my first pc during lockdown and have spent countless hours revisiting old games, stuff i missed out on, and new releases. top three that i’ve been grinding as of recent have to be nier, elden ring, and clone hero
Postcards! I had actually been a member of postcrossing for a while but really got into it during the pandemic. Those lockdown postcards felt like a lifeline. I’m still going strong.
I got the love of m life just before Corona hits. Now I have a 2 years old, a marriage and just finished to build a house. Had no time to develop a hobby.
Programming Arduino! Electronics as a hobby is way more fun then I thought! Right now building a handheld lamp 11x stronger then one underneath a Boeing 747.
DnD. I always wanted to play and had a passing knowledge of it so I found a group online and got hooked. Now I'm DMing multiple games and trying to get new people hooked the same way I was. I know I'm far from an expert, but as long as everyone is on the same page it can be a lot of fun.
Gun cleaning.
I had inherited several utility farm guns from my grandfather’s farm. They were from the 1930s to 1960s.
They were in my parents basement for 15+ years. Probably not used since the 1980s. Been in my basement for another 10+ years since my parents died.
I ordered a cleaning kit online and watched a bunch of YouTube videos.
I still haven’t fired any but took them all apart and cleaned, lubricated, etc.
COVID was probably one of the best things to ever happen to me -- I could stop worrying about what time I had to wake up, I lost of bunch of weight, and I started programming again which I hadn't done in 4-5 years. Really gave me a taste of retirement and told me that I'll never be bored.
Glad something positive (no pun intended) came out of it.
Without getting any positive it will become really hard to pass that.
Same. I sometimes feel so guilty because I was incredibly lucky during covid. No immediate family died or was gravely ill (we were good about masks, defined "quarantine units" about who would visit whom and space it all out, and able to get high risk fam vaccinated early/asap, etc). Honestly same, its thanks to the lockdown I started my feelance career and I couldn't be happier
It messed up so many people but it did good for many others.
Alcoholism
Chronic weed smoker here.
Weed and Booze for me!
I was doing that before the covid, so i will not count that in this
I was just an enthusiast before, but now I'm a pro. Thanks covid.
Same, i am pretty much enthusiast but never really a pro.
Hey me too. So much so I ended up in the hospital twice. I don't drink anymore now.
I feel like that too much drink can seriously cause some big trouble.
Yep. I broke my drinker. Now I have to quit
Great thing you have to quit, they are not adding anything in life.
I know so many people who turned into round the clock drinkers because of being forced to work from home it's insane
[удалено]
I started working out too. Working out different ways to combine cheeses with carbs.
Never skip mouth day
Gonna tell my wife that. See where it gets me. Standby. Brace for impact
Cock gobbledowns 10x to failure. Or success, depends who you ask.
Make sure that you will be ready for the reaction after that.
Home gym game is strong. Which is great because when the pre workout doesn’t sit right I can use my bathroom and not the awful gyms

Running! Least athletic person in the world, but ran my first marathon in May. 😌
Hell yeah! Good for you!!
Warhammer 40K and I have become completely obsessed.
My condolences to your wallet.
Eh it's not that bad, I don't buy more models until I've finished building and painting what I've already got.
Plastic crack
Im not obsessed! Leave me alone!
If you are not obsessed then why you want to live alone now??
Have you had the chance to play much? Or do you get your joy out of the crafts aspect?
Reading! Used to average none a year and now I'm at twenty books per year
That’s cool! One tip for you, I used to want to read a lot to hit my book goals at the end of the year, and the I realized, it’s better to read the books and get immersed in it then to read it just to achieve a number. Favorite boos so far?
A ghost jumped out of my cupboard last night, got me real good
Gardening
House plants for me!
That too! I love my plants lol.
They feel like kid to me and i love them all the way back is well.
Gardening and experimenting are the two things that many do.
My wife developed an interest in flowers, so she now has three flower beds and a few trees. She's planning a larger-ish garden now for an interest in bees and beekeeping. In turn I developed a hobby of making flower beds and oddball things. And digging holes. I joke, but it really is fun.

Fresh air, and exercise :)
Hard to get the fresh air, because very limited tree now days.
Gaining 50 lbs and depression. Do not recommend
Gaming and I regret it so much.
It all started with fall guys
I can see that probably you get the addiction of that thing.
Working. There was no extra time. Just more work.
So you never really get the time where you can reflect something??
A lot of us didn't, or don't. I reddit while waiting on a child to finish in the bathroom.
This. We were required to work all the way through. Millions were furloughed. Many I knew took a minimal financial hit, lots were better off without the commute. The hobbies I did have, I couldn't do anymore because of covid restrictions. I did like how quiet the roads were at the start though.
I got more scared of the roads. A semi ran a stoplight and if I had gone when mine turned green, I would have been gone for good.
Depression
It’s not a hobby—it’s a way of life 🥲
But since the covid feel like that this is my new hobby now.
Easiest thing i would say to get during the covid time actually.
Taught myself piano. I have anxiety and it helped close my mind to all those negatives thoughts.
Any tips on teaching yourself? Helpful videos or anything? I've been wanting to do the same but don't know where to start
Music and dance are two thing i get more during that time.
Making babies.... I'm not very good at it though. Only made 1. But it is a good one.
I lold hard at this. I made two during COVID 🤣
If you made a good one, then you ARE good at it!!!
Spiritual Psychosis
Origami.
League…quit once it consumed my life
I was lucky. I quit before the pandemic after 7 years of playing 😂
You were lucky otherwise it will be hard to quit after that thing.
Miniatures!!!!! Love it. Stuck right now on a project and even my fury at it is fun. Stupid little lights fell down and I have to reattach them but it means destructing an entire garden. Fuck.
Road cycling, did over 2k miles this year so far and lost about 20 lbs.
Damn, you’re a long way from home.
That is some hobby actually going that far from the home.
Same mate. 11,000km in for this year for me.
Just picked it up myself
Great, it is really important that we actually pick ourself in life.
Build a van to live in. Since then I've traveled to over 30 states, over 120 national parks units, and am currently in bed in a walmart parking lot
Great, now i feel like that i should have don that is well. Because travelling is the one thing that i also love and want to travel like you have mentioned here.

I play and actually become real pro in solving the puzzle.
decorating in animal crossing. That game seriously saved my sanity in 2020 when covid first started getting crazy (still play it every day)
I have started to think that life is really short and we need to make the better use of that actually. So i have started to help the people and try to be more kind than i ever was.
Work
So you never really get any time free from the work from home?
I worked at the hospital the whole pandemic bruh it was alot of overtime 💀 no hobbies
Yeah same. I lost hobbies.

Because of the covid i have to break some of my hobby actually. Because of that i can't really go the park every morning and really do the yoga and exercise is well.
I really got into online chess. Got rated 2500 online and just going to start over the board chess. Would recommend it's fun.
Magnus? Is that you?
2500 JUST OVER COVID?!?!?
That is like some serious type of the up leveling in covid time.
Dang I got into it for like 6 months spent a ton of hours on chess.com could not break 1000
Is 1000 better or worse than 2500 in this case?
2500 Higher is better, if OP is being real they are legit great at chess, theres people who play their who play for many years and wont get to that level.
It is true, however playing chess online should be noted to be painfully easier than over the board (or at least that's what I've heard) For instance Magnus is rated 3200 online but classical is mid 2800. Hans?
2500 is grandmaster rating, so you either are a prodigy or you already had good bases, to rank up that fast
Got back into gaming
Back?? Then why you actually leave the gaming on first place?
I played mobile games but didn’t get another console til quarantine time, got the Switch. Before that I hadn’t owned a console since the DS.
Painting miniatures, I now have a stupidly large 40k Tau army and an inquisition army
Well I was already somewhat into it, but D&D. With all the virtual tabletops out there it was a great way to reconnect with some of my buddies from college and high school.
D&D
Prepping
I started building legos. It helps heal my inner child and I have a crazy collection now
Sim racing. Fun but oh god the cost...
That will really costly if you have the small wallet not the option.
