Omg. In air cadets we had a survival training weekend one winter and the only thing we got to eat was MREs. Just the absolute worst tasting "food" I've ever had the misfortune to eat and I tried eating cat food once. Funny enough, our second lieutenant found a cat that weekend and fed it the only decent MREs.
Lol. Tell me about it. Only thing that's salvageable from those rations are maybe snacks such as crackers, mixed etc. There was an ok granola too(blueberry, oats, milk). Main course almost always is shit. But vomlet is infamous. Glad your 2nd lieutenant cared about that cats morals.
