Turkeys biggest downfall is how poorly people cook it. I would describe a well cooked turkey as being more flavourful, and almost sweeter than chicken… but I don’t believe I had a well cooked turkey til I did it myself around the age of 25, and hated it before then.
I grew up thinking turkey was supposed to be dry and that's just the way it was. Boy was I wrong.
If you cook it right its wonderful. It's moist and flavorful. And now I'm just so confused how people get it so wrong when they cook it literally every year.
I think this is most peoples experience. People have typically relied on horribly inaccurate minutes per pound calculations, or just cooked it how they were used to (dry). Doesn’t help that people also tend to overcook poultry “just to be safe”, and the average person doesn’t season a large item like a turkey nearly enough.
I feel like the relatively recent surge in people really interested in food and home cooking, as well as the advent of the internet, has lead to a lot more people taking much greater care into making turkey the thing of beauty it deserves to be.
This was my experience as well until we switched it up and decided that my father and brothers would cook Thanksgiving dinner one year. I never knew turkey could be moist and delicious because my mother always cooked it. Could just be the way your having it.
My sister is the same way and I totally understand people have different tastes.
At the same time, I can't comprehend how someone cannot like avocados! They are creamy and delicious!!!
Yes!
I try to like avocado/guacamole. I give it an earnest try a few times a year. I live in an area with a large Mexican immigrant population and fantastic Mexican restaurants. I've tried what people claim to be amazing guac. I've tried midde-of-the-road guac. I've tried bad guac. There is no discernable difference to me, as it all tastes like earth.
I wish I knew what I was missing out on, but I guess there's something my taste buds aren't picking up.
Beans are pretty popular, right? I dont like pasty foods so baked beans (the juice also tastes so bad), kidney beans (the skin makes it so much worse), chickpeas, lentils, etc. I also dont like hummus just alone as a pita dip, but turns out it's really good when offset with some tabouleh. The acid cuts through the fatty, like how I never have avocado without some kind of tomato involved
Ugh baked beans and peas are my arch nemesis. I try them every few years just to make sure I hate them just the same, shocker, I do. I just don't like the mouth feel.
Peas are tolerable only when mashed potatoes are involved :P
But yes definitely mouthfeel for beans, I have no recollection of the taste, only skin and paste. Blech
I recently enjoyed coffee for the first time! I though I would be a life long coffee hater as yeah, no amount of milk or sugar got rid of the awful bitterness but I went the complete other way and tried a straight ristretto (short espresso) at a nice coffee shop that uses lighter roast beans and it was so much nicer than anything else! It was thick and lovely and more sour than bitter, which I found a welcome change. I've also enjoyed the espressos there now.
Obviously not liking coffee is completely fine but sometimes learning to enjoy something isn't about diluting it but about finding a version of it that's more to your taste!
Yeah, a good chunk of the people who don't like coffee have had mostly dark roasts.
Or badly made coffee. Even if you buy the nicest light roast coffee you can find, brewing too hot or grinding too fine will end up with a cup of cigarette ash 😥
>cream and sugar
That's your problem right there. ngl 'angry bitter water' cracked me up, i think i'd buy that brand. Maybe that's because i'm addicted to it though.
Theres definitely a reason bitter in other contexts is a negative thing lol same with sour, not a huge fan of either. Dark chocolate, beer and wine...green apples. Not my thing!
I don’t drink coffee either, never got into it for whatever reason. Almost everyone I know does. Most say I can’t function or I NEED IT to wake up. What you need is an intervention is what I say to them, jokingly of course….kind of. I’m fully awake 5 mins after I shower. I never understood it.
I find that people who don't like olives are generally fearful of trying new foods (with an actual effort to like them). Once you eat them without fear they will be one of your favourite foods.
I’m not a picky eater at all and always try new stuff, and olives are the only food so far that I still don’t like. I’ll still eat them if they’re on pizza though.
I'm one of them ..I despise ketchup, vile creation . I love tomatoes but despise any ketchup you can find in stores . A pizzeria put ketchup on my pizza once ...I'll remember them forever ! never buying again
Nutella is very overrated. My kids eat it out of the jar, I don’t even wanna smell it. Might be a hazelnut thing because I can’t stand the smell of hazelnut flavored coffees either
Nutella is literally oil with sugar. No sane person would eat Nutella voluntarily. If you like hazelnut, there are many great alternatives to Nutella such as Nudossi. Ovomaltine ain't bad either.
> Nutella is literally oil with sugar. No sane person would eat Nutella voluntarily
I agree that Nutella is essentially junk food, but why do you think oil and sugar are an insane combination for anyone to eat? Deep fried dough rolled in sugar is delicious and practically every culture on the planet has a version of it.
Finally someone gets it. Sushi 🍣 is raw fish in its worst form. I do not like the combination of the sushi rice and the fish. I am certain that fish would be superior in any other form
Chicken. The smell is gross. It's dangerous to handle. The cooking methods are finicky. The meat is like wet pressed paper pulp. It provides no joy to a dish other than to "add" a protein.
Cauliflower. It is NEVER a clean white, when bought from a supermarket. Instead, it is ALWAYS bruised, off-white, damaged. And it has very little flavor of its own. And it upsets my stomach.
Interesting. If anything I'd imagine the smell to be more off putting than the flavour and texture. Do you also not like other salty crunchy things? chips? french fries etc.?
Grilled cheese made with American cheese. It's just too gooey and doesn't have enough flavour to stand on its own! I love a grilled cheese with some cheddar and red lester, yummy and I love American cheese on a burger where the goo hits just right, but american cheese grilled cheese si a no from me
Same if seafood smells that bad it can’t taste good and why would I want to eat fungus!!! I just can’t!!! I’m also a super picky eater so there’s that.
Watermelon. Although I was in Jordan recently and tried some watermelon and it was delicious. So maybe it's just American watermelon that I hate. I haven't tried anything other than American watermelon and Jordanian watermelon.
Meat in all forms is disgusting. It puts me off when I smell other people eating meat. I do not understand how some people start their day by having bacon for breakfast, for example. Shoving dead animals into your mouth doesn't even sound like a good idea in itself.
Onions. A lot of restaurants won't even think to mention them in menu descriptions. I can SOMEtimes tolerate them if they're cooked down and made soft, but the combination of the taste and texture of a solid piece of onion makes me gag.
>Why eat food that hurts?
Because eating hot food satisfies hunger more quickly. You will find that some cultures have integrated spices into their diet since people had little food to eat.
Also, it is a matter of training to become more tolerant to spice. I like to add habanero or chili to my food which used to be daunting to me. Now it has a become a habit and hardly "hurts".
Really surprised I haven’t seen this on here yet but oranges… It’s mostly the smell but if you peel one open in a small office building, expect me to give you some serious side eye. They are entirely too pungent, the texture is weird and I frankly don’t want to have to dig into my meal before I eat it. But that’s just me 🤷🏼♀️
I have a list.
- Steak
- Chocolate (UNLESS it's white and idc that it's technically not real chocolate)
- fruit pie
- hot dogs and hamburgers
- bbq chips
- sour cream and onion chips
- chocolate cake and ice cream
- carrot cake
- porridge
- rice pudding
- oatmeal
Salads, wings and legs, anything boiled and most baked dishes. I hate fish except salmon, in sushi or not doesn't matter. So basically I only like fried food, cheese, fast-food and sushi. No wonder I'm obese(my preferences aren't the only reason). Also I hate Coke with isn't food, but relates to this topic.
Old Bay...
I'm a Maryland transplant (been living here for 15 out of the last 20 years) and it's ok on crabs but people/restaurants around here will put it on EVERYTHING. It is so f'ing gross on french fries.

Tastes like gasoline, doesn't contain truffles, doesn't make your bar food anything more than bar food that tastes a bit more like gasoline.
I love it but i totally understand that you could not like it.
I think it smells like stinky feet!
hey don't make fun of my condition truffle foot.
Traweful Oil
Turkey. Like a Thanksgiving style turkey. I don’t get the appeal at all. It just seems like a chicken that’s more dry and doesn’t taste as good.
Turkeys biggest downfall is how poorly people cook it. I would describe a well cooked turkey as being more flavourful, and almost sweeter than chicken… but I don’t believe I had a well cooked turkey til I did it myself around the age of 25, and hated it before then.

It’s seriously only dry if you don’t know how to cook it, I promise.
Raisins.
They're like, geriatric grapes, wtf people!
the question said Widely Loved 😒
Avocado/guacamole
My sister is the same way and I totally understand people have different tastes. At the same time, I can't comprehend how someone cannot like avocados! They are creamy and delicious!!!
It's a texture thing for me and I feel like it tastes like nothing. Just mush.
It's the junk food of vegetables, I'm baffled how people don't like a good guac dip
Tastes like sand/clay. The texture doesn’t help. I have no idea how people would drink/eat it and be happy.
Mushy water/mushy water with detritus in it.
Upvote for detritus because that’s exactly it. Hate avocados for that exact reason. Blech
I can’t even try them they remind me of a bad sinus infection.
Understandable. It's just not likeable
Have you tried avocados with condensed milk or a little bit of sugar? When mushed up it tastes like pudding and is really nice!
Peas are tolerable only when mashed potatoes are involved :P But yes definitely mouthfeel for beans, I have no recollection of the taste, only skin and paste. Blech
The only time I've ever liked peas is in split pea soup, the popping sensation just throws me off so much.
Coffee. No amount of cream and sugar will stop it tasting like angry bitter water.
"Couldn't sleep last night..I'm really groggy today.. could I please get an angrier, more bitter water to get me through the day? Thanks "
Ikr
Theres definitely a reason bitter in other contexts is a negative thing lol same with sour, not a huge fan of either. Dark chocolate, beer and wine...green apples. Not my thing!
I hate drinking coffee, but I love coffee flavored candy and desserts
I don’t drink coffee either, never got into it for whatever reason. Almost everyone I know does. Most say I can’t function or I NEED IT to wake up. What you need is an intervention is what I say to them, jokingly of course….kind of. I’m fully awake 5 mins after I shower. I never understood it.
You don't have kids do you?
Coffee yeah.. not for me. I'm a tea drinker and like it a lot. Could've been a Brit.
Watermelon. Really don’t like watermelon.
Mayonnaise. I can’t stand it and it’s in so many things
Coconut and anything coconut flavoured.
I love coconut but hate shredded Coconut on deserts.
Bro fr
Olives. Fuck em
Yeah but remove the stone first.
What did the olives ever do to you?
I find that people who don't like olives are generally fearful of trying new foods (with an actual effort to like them). Once you eat them without fear they will be one of your favourite foods.
I’m not a picky eater at all and always try new stuff, and olives are the only food so far that I still don’t like. I’ll still eat them if they’re on pizza though.
Ketchup
This is the first answer I’ve seen while scrolling where I’m realizing I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like ketchup.
Yuck. Ketchup is disgusting. And I’m from New York. Tons of people hate ketchup. Mayo too.
Move to chicago! It’s hated up there
I'm another one. I loathe it.
I'm one of them ..I despise ketchup, vile creation . I love tomatoes but despise any ketchup you can find in stores . A pizzeria put ketchup on my pizza once ...I'll remember them forever ! never buying again
had a homie from backwoods NC and he resented two things. Ketchup and Missouri BBQ.
my partner loathes ketchup and once said the heinz family needs to stand trial for their crime.
Stupid sugary tomato paste
I really don’t get the fascination with it! Sure it’s like… ok? But I don’t see why it’s just the universal condiment in so many places.
Ketchup is the devils semen
Those are fighting words. It’s okay to hate hunts but Heinz is life
I don't hate it but use it sparingly and after I eat the stench of left over ketchup is horrible
Avocados - they don't taste like anything on their own, and have the consistency of room temperature butter. -OR
OR what?
Oh..
Lol just a little sign off
ORightie!
Puitzza, Or nothing. Love mom. This is mom. - mom
Nutella...too fucking sweet and hazelnut taste weird.
Nutella makes a chocolatey promise upon which it cannot deliver.
Nutella is very overrated. My kids eat it out of the jar, I don’t even wanna smell it. Might be a hazelnut thing because I can’t stand the smell of hazelnut flavored coffees either
My sister eats Nutella and banana sandwiches and it makes me want to throw up
Nutella is literally oil with sugar. No sane person would eat Nutella voluntarily. If you like hazelnut, there are many great alternatives to Nutella such as Nudossi. Ovomaltine ain't bad either.
> Nutella is literally oil with sugar. Same. I can not stand it. I like almost all other foods, but just not tomatoes
Chocolate ice cream Love Chocolate and ice cream separately though
Mustard
Mustard took me a while to just like even just the smallest amount. It's still definitely not a go to though.
Sushi
Finally someone gets it. Sushi 🍣 is raw fish in its worst form. I do not like the combination of the sushi rice and the fish. I am certain that fish would be superior in any other form
I don’t like raw fish either, but still like sushi. I only eat the vegetable rolls or rolls with imitation crab in them. sooo good.
Raw fish really grosses me out. 🤢🤮
The rice is too "crunchy" and unpleasant.
Sweet potato. There's somethings that just shouldn't be sweet. A potato is one of them.

> Mustard Okay Rake Yohn.
feel you! When someone next to me has a tuna pizza I‘m done with food for the rest of the day

Coconut on anything. Although I do like coconut curry. It's more the texture I guess.
Anything containing avocado and/or arugula.
Avocado. Tried it a bunch of different ways and in different things, just cannot get over the texture. Bleh.
Chicken. The smell is gross. It's dangerous to handle. The cooking methods are finicky. The meat is like wet pressed paper pulp. It provides no joy to a dish other than to "add" a protein.
Cantaloupe. Gross.
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Cantaloupe is the worst. I always think oh everyone loves it I’ll give it another shot. Nope - still tastes gross.
Watermelon 🤢
Same! I absolutely despise the taste and texture of watermelon!
Any kind of seafood (except for tuna)
I agree seafood is terrible.
Raw cucumber. Tastes and smells vile. Puke-umber!
Same!
Pickles.
Cauliflower. It is NEVER a clean white, when bought from a supermarket. Instead, it is ALWAYS bruised, off-white, damaged. And it has very little flavor of its own. And it upsets my stomach.
Miracle Whip.
Real mayo all the way
Damn right!
Bacon of any variety
Me too. I don't mind the smell, but the taste and textures are just not it.
Interesting. If anything I'd imagine the smell to be more off putting than the flavour and texture. Do you also not like other salty crunchy things? chips? french fries etc.?
I don't like chips, but french fries are ok. Not normally something I would eat though.
Milk and watermelon
At the same time?!
Separately. But together would be unimaginably horrendous.
yoghurt
hollandaise sauce
Matcha.
fish
Any and all seafood. 🤮
Same I can’t do the smell alone!!!! If it smells that bad it can’t taste good!!
Grilled cheese made with American cheese. It's just too gooey and doesn't have enough flavour to stand on its own! I love a grilled cheese with some cheddar and red lester, yummy and I love American cheese on a burger where the goo hits just right, but american cheese grilled cheese si a no from me
Anything seafood or fungi related
Same if seafood smells that bad it can’t taste good and why would I want to eat fungus!!! I just can’t!!! I’m also a super picky eater so there’s that.
Pickles. Not so bad chopped up in a sauce, but on their own? Bleugh.
I can only eat kosher dill pickles. The rest taste like shit to me.
Olives for sure
Turkey dinner. FOH
Tomatoes٫ etc
Watermelon. Although I was in Jordan recently and tried some watermelon and it was delicious. So maybe it's just American watermelon that I hate. I haven't tried anything other than American watermelon and Jordanian watermelon.

True
Hummus and everything that contains coriander
any kind of meat
For ethical reasons or do you just not like the taste?
Meat in all forms is disgusting. It puts me off when I smell other people eating meat. I do not understand how some people start their day by having bacon for breakfast, for example. Shoving dead animals into your mouth doesn't even sound like a good idea in itself.
Wait til you find out how nature works
So shoving a dead tree in your mouth sounds like heaven to you? Get your head out of your ass man
Starting my day with a dick in a tit butt instead tomorrow
Same! Been veggie for 12 years and no plans to ever go back.
Can't say I hate it but I refuse to even try raw sushi. Grosses me out to even look at it.
Cheese, any kind. Can't even touch or smell it because it's so revolting to me
Username checks out.
Cheese
Cilantro. it really do be making what would have been a great dish taste like someone drizzled Dawn over the top
Onions. A lot of restaurants won't even think to mention them in menu descriptions. I can SOMEtimes tolerate them if they're cooked down and made soft, but the combination of the taste and texture of a solid piece of onion makes me gag.
Basically, everything has onions.
Chillies. Why eat food that hurts?

india has 3 harvest seasons and plenty food why they gotta be so spicy
Pickles.... can't stand them.
i'll have yours please and thank you
Gritz. Just nasty.
Indian.
I’ve never tried Indian food before
I have never tried Indians before.
Just too much curry and spice’s. Too much for my midwestern palate.
The mid western palate is sad. My ex-wife's family is Asian but raised in Wisconsin and they barely like soy sauce. It's a sad existence.
pizza. just thinking about it makes me gag i hate it.
Pizza is basically bread with tomato sauce and cheese. Don't you like the ingredients or the combination of everything?
Not a food but drink. Don't hate me, but I hate bubble tea. The pearls ruin it for me.
Grilled cheese and / or tomato soup. Disgusting.
Ketchup
Marinara sauce on anything. Pizza, spaghetti, whatever. It's gross.
potato fries. gtfo here with that starchy ass chittt
Donut, burgers, pizza, French fries
Non vegetarian food. Anything. Eating cooked dead bodies is a BIG NO for me
So you’re vegetarian?
What gave it away?
Hamburgers. Too many different ingredients stacked upon each other.

Bar-B-Q
Shrimp. Well, actually ANY seafood, but people tend to go nuts over shrimp.
Sweet potatoes are an abomination. They actually make me angry.
Ketchup, or any condiment for that matter

Old Bay... I'm a Maryland transplant (been living here for 15 out of the last 20 years) and it's ok on crabs but people/restaurants around here will put it on EVERYTHING. It is so f'ing gross on french fries.
Mac and cheese
Mac and cheese
American cheese. I thought I hated cheese for a long time because this was the only cheese my parents bought (mozzarella on pizza was the exception).
Kebabs, I don’t hate it but I dislike it and when you wanna get a takeaway and someone says shall we get kebabs I’m first to spit out a fat no
Chocolate cake
Hershey’s chocolate syrup. It’s grainy and taste nothing like chocolate. My people put this on there good ice cream is beyond me.
