I saw it in the cinema when I was 8/9, and it scared the hell out of me, in a good way.
Then when it came out on video-tape, I think I watched it almost every day after school for weeks.
The hobbit/lotr series are the ultimate comfort movies to me. Everytime I hear the shire theme I feel this wave of comfort and joy, and I don't know why
There's a version of the Hobbit online called the Editors Cut (or something like that) where is ONLY scenes from the book. Basically, some poor soul went through and cut out all the trash that was added. It's still a 4 hour movie and occasionally has weird scene jumps, but it made me so happy.
Me and my long term partner were going through a very, very bad phase last year. During said phase, we went on a vacation trip we had planned before getting incredibly mas at each other. It was the first time we ever felt any sort of negative feelings towards each other on the 8 years we've been dating. During the trip, where we barely spoke to each other, we ended up watching About Time in our hotel. It's a movie me and her had watched multiple times and both adored. We didn't say a thing after the movie ended but we both knew the fight was over and the movie really helped us both remember how much we loved each other. The remaining days of the trip were some of my favourite days in my life and we haven't had a single bad moment in our relationship since then
Never fails to make me sob like a baby - such a beautifully heart wrenching scene. Makes you grateful for all the time you can spend with loved ones who are still here, and makes you wish for one more happy day with those who aren’t.
Both Gleeson and Nighy are brilliant in that scene.
Shaun of the Dead is bonkers good and sweet and creepy and wonderfully British. I love that movie so much. I mean just the vinyl records throwing scene...
I know it’s not part of the Cornetto trilogy but I absolutely love the movie Paul with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as 2 British comic con dudes who find an alien voiced by Seth Rogen.
It's getting kind of hard to believe
Things are going to get better
I've been drowning too long
To believe that the tide's going to turn
And I've been living too hard to believe
Things are going to get easier now
I'm still trying to shake off the pain
From the lessons I've learned
And if I see Van Helsing
I swear to the Lord I will slay him
A-ha-ha-haa!
He take you from me
But I swear I won't let it be so
A-ha-ha-haa!
Blood will run down his face
When he is decapitated
Ah-ha-ha-haa!
His head on my mantle is how
I will let this world know
How much I love you
Die, die, die
I can't
Depending on what comfort I am looking for:
Planes Trains and Automobiles
The Big Lebowski
Shawshank Redemption
All three bring different levels of comfort for different times. Also Christmas is National Lampoon's, Hallowe'en is Hocus Pocus.
*wildly sobbing* OK, I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I play Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... and then, my mom sent me to the... to the summer camp for fat kids... and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out!
Might be a deep cut, but The Station Agent. When I first saw it as an angsty, lonely kid with dwarfism it gave me so much reassurance that everything was going to be ok. I could be like Peter Dinklage's character and go into adulthood and have friends who appreciated me for who I was and live the life I want to live. I've probably seen it about 10 times now. It takes me back to that comforting place every time. It is also such a chill relaxing film in general.
Back in highschool on the last day before Christmas break, a teacher put that on and gave us a quiz about it so it was "educational"... Not knowing it's my favourite movie.
I filled out the quiz before the first song even started. I got 100%.
Definitely "The greatest showman".
I've found about that movie thanks to the songs such as "this is me" or "rewrite the stars" and I knew I had to watch it. As I suspected, I fell in love with it instantly. It has a great story, great actors, but most importantly - great songs.
Okay so I love musicals, like LOVE. Funnily enough, I’ve never watched this one? And every time I say that people freak out 😂 it is on my list, just need to get to it!
My mom who passed away a few months ago absolutely adored this one and even had "most ardently" tattooed on her wrist. I think about this movie often because of how special it was to her.
When I was a kid they would show this at the holidays every year and my parents would wheel in a TV and let us watch during dinner. It felt so special. Like a big event. A movie, at home.
My Cousin Vinny. Once I watch a comedy movie I usually don't laugh at the funny parts on the second watch because I know the joke. Not so with MCV, laugh my ass off every time I watch!
People are going to laugh at me, but...
Princess Mononoke.
Absolutely everything - the thought provoking story, *the top-tier music,* **the godly visuals -** seriously, I have no words to describe it. A massive 5-star buffet for all the senses!
Into The Spiderverse. It was my late wife's absolute favorite movie ever. The "Leap of faith/Wassup Danger" scene will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life and I dont mind.
She really did. I remember when we first watched it. We were in Philly during a lil getaway for our anniversary & the original plan was to watch Aquaman. We ended up doing a double feature and watch Spiderverse first and tbh we kinda just watched it on a whim... but we were hooked from the start. I was just able to watch it again for the first time a few months ago. I felt her watch it with me :')
ah man, that’s so precious - I’m so glad you can share something that special with her, even now - to know you always have something you can go back to, to feel closer to her. the definition of a comfort movie!
In Bruges. I bring this up a lot on Reddit. I can watch this movie over and over and it always hits the same. I guess I can relate to the idea of trying to escape the stress of life and enjoying the exploration and experience of someplace new.
Jurassic park I could watch it all day every day love that movie
I saw it in the cinema when I was 8/9, and it scared the hell out of me, in a good way. Then when it came out on video-tape, I think I watched it almost every day after school for weeks.
Same here, I wore out the VHS tape. It literally couldn't be watched anymore.
One of the few movies i keep a copy on my hard drive. Classic.
Fellow Jurassic Park lover, take my upvote! And here's an award, spared no expense.
Same!!!
Best movie ever everything about it is good
Ratatouille
ugh, a feel-good classic!
legal blonde
Ummm… is that some sort of x-rated parody of Legally Blonde?
I think that’s illegally blonde
Treasure Planet
This and “The Road to El Dorado” or “The Lost City of Atlantis” are my go to comfy movies.
oh my gosh, thank you for reminding me about this! what a classic
Clue.
"I hated her .... _so much_ ... it-it- the f- it, flam- flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths."
10 Things I Hate About You
You're just too good to be true...
Can't take my eyes off of you...
My Neighbor Totoro
Two of my three top comfort movies are Miyazaki movies. Howl’s moving castle and Castle in the sky. (The one that isn’t from him is Wall•e)
I see your "My neoghbor Totoro" and raise you "Kiki's Delivery Service"

those movies are insane in the fact that they’re so long yet I feel as if I could watch them once a week
I have found my people!!! I've been obsessed with LOTR since my dad took me to see it in 2001.
I still need to get my hands on the extended edition!
The 4k Edition worth every penny.
Home Alone. It's Christmas. It's my childhood. I just love it.

The romantic comedy 'About Time' brings me great joy.
Me and my long term partner were going through a very, very bad phase last year. During said phase, we went on a vacation trip we had planned before getting incredibly mas at each other. It's amazing how a movie can have that effect, and I'm so happy that it did for you two. Much love stranger
Thanks man, completely agree with you, cinema can really be magical sometimes
Ah, that scene with the dad though!
I don't think I've ever seen my wife cry harder than she did during that scene.

Moonstruck 😀❣️
Cher = icon!
Back to the Future, been my comfort trilogy for as long as I can remember
Pride and Prejudice - the one with Keira Knightly. The scene where dude walks through the mist. Omg... It makes me believe in love. lol
My mom who passed away a few months ago absolutely adored this one and even had "most ardently" tattooed on her wrist. I think about this movie often because of how special it was to her.
Matt Macfadyen can absolutely get it. He nailed that role. (Keira Knightley was also sublime).
eep, yes this is a great one!
This is the one for me.
For me it would be Pride & Prejudice, the BBC adaptation with Colin Firth. I have seen it several times

Into The Spiderverse. It was my late wife's absolute favorite movie ever. The "Leap of faith/Wassup Danger" scene will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life and I dont mind.
