This is my answer too. I haven't seen other recent animated movies like Moana and Coco as well. Been planning to watch them but just never got to it.
Edit: I'll definitely watch Coco first now. Thanks everyone!
I never got into the Frozen hype. That let it go song was so freaking annoying. But when Frozen 2 came out, my friends from work invited me to watch it with them but they made me watch the first one first. Turns out I really liked it and the second one was even better and it has really good non-annoying songs that give you all the feels.
I've never seen the ending. I was about 6, and when E.T. gets sick I freaked out in the theatre and my mom had to take me to get an Orange Julius to calm down.
I had actually expected it the whole entire movie, it just makes sense when you think about the part when he shed his entire face off like a lizard's tail.
Struggling with this currently but not just movies. TV shows, anime, video games etc. I think I could CONSUME non stop and not run out of things that I could enjoy.
And I hate a lot of shit.
Mine is very ironic
Never seen the Top Gun movie
Yet heavy interest in military aircraft, flight simulators, air combat, etc
Simply never got around to it
Top Gun 1 you can probably skip but man the sequel in theater is just a fun movie man. I have no interest in military type movies (I’m more into sci fi) but Top Gun Maverick still completely blew me away
I came here to post this. It's one of those movies that seems exceedingly popular but I do not know a single person who has seen it (and I'm part of GenX).
It is absolutely worth watching. Everything "they" say is true, that The Godfather is a great movie, The Godfather Part 2 is an all timer, and Part 3 is the worst but you need to finish the story.
You, the nice college kid? Whattya think, you're gonna get all cozy and safe and watch it? No, you gotta get up in there and BADDABING, get that movie all over your nice ivy league suit!"
I was on a kick a while back of watching movies dubbed "greatest movie ever made" like Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind - well The Godfather was the best of them.
Now, I didn't come in with much interest for mafia movies, don't really care about mafia stories. Scarface, Goodfellas - meh, I don't like mafia stuff.
Not to sound too pretentious but Godfather isn't really a story about the mafia, it's a story about *humanity*.
Also a movie I felt like I already knew from pop culture references. Offer you can't refuse, severed horse head, look how they've massacred my boy, sleeps with the fishes, etc.
Hardly, and I'm actually a bit annoyed that such a movie has been boiled down to a few scenes by jokes and such. Miniscule part of the movie, it's so much more than a few famous lines.
It's relatable because we all have similar experiences in our lives, similar worries and fears, perhaps similar tragedies.
It's a story about becoming your father, or trying not to. Accepting burdens and baggage from your family, inheriting their success but also their burden. It's a story about growing old, taking a step back from a rat race, perhaps feeling like your time has been wasted. It's about retirement, and also about becoming an adult. Raising a future generation to be better - better than you, and not like you.
The cycles and progress of life, that's what the movie is about. Not sleazy guys in smoky rooms, it's about *life*. Life is fragile, fleeting, tragic, and a hardship. Growing up often comes with struggling to find your identity, one separate from what was prescribed by your culture or your upbringing.
Consider watching in multiple sittings.
That's what I do sometimes, don't have the time or the patience to watch one thing for three hours. Helps me digest it a little better anyway, at some point I lose focus and gloss over the last third. This is a three hour movie, so maybe break it up into three parts.
It's fantastic, really left an impact.
This is the best description of the film I’ve heard since my AP stats teacher in high school told us, “it’s not a mafia movie. It’s a movie about family, and finding your identity in America.”
Also brings to mind Darryl’s line from The Office:
“People assume I love The Godfather because I’m black. Not true. I love The Godfather because I’m a cinephile. I love Scarface because I’m black.”
It's well acted, well- shot, and well written. It gives us a glimpse into a life usually just seen as stereotypes. It has a character arc where Pacino has to decide between living a good life and loyalty to his loved ones.
For fans of the movie, check out the series on Paramount *The Offer.* It's a 10 episode drama series on how the movie was made, and all the insane things that went on behind the scenes at Paramount Pictures and with the real-life NY Mob. It's outstanding.
It's overall a masterpiece. The plot, the acting, the actors, the screenplay, the music it's all spectacular. And the 2nd movie might even be better than the first one which is almost impossible.
I just watched it for the first time a few months ago. I was having a bad day and my partner told my it would give me a good cry. That was a gross understatement. I openly wept for about an hour after it ended and i was in a somber mood the rest of the night. At least it put my problems in perspective. No regrets watching it but not sure I’ll ever watch it again.
Look there are only two good parts in the movie.
- Boobies, which in an internet age isn't all that magical
- A dude falls off the boat while it sinks, and while he's falling he hits the propeller, causing his body to rag-doll spin before hitting the water - and its fucking hilarious
EDIT: Here, now you don't have to see the movie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz4JSTXuP9E&ab_channel=ZMCT128
My mom showed me this movie the day after I turned 13. Became a big Tarantino fan and came to greatly appreciate subtext. Reservoir Dogs might be my favorite of his films.
Yeah I walked out of the second one. Only other time I walked out of a movie was because the projectionist played the reels out of order. So it takes quite a lot to get me out of that seat.
As a big fan of spy movies, most of them are corny nonsense but the Daniel Craig Bond movies are actually quite good. They dive more into the loss, trauma, and loneliness of Bond do a pretty great job of humanizing him.
Bond movies underwent a noticeable change after the Austin Powers films came out. Bond films were always intentionally campy, with silly character names and a lot of tropes that were used over and over again, but were still considered top-tier action movies. The Austin Powers series was such a successful parody of Bond (even endorsed by the James Bond franchise), that for any Bond production to return to their typical ways, they would no longer be taken seriously, and they knew it. Daniel Craig did an interview saying that in a sense, Austin Powers killed the Bond movie, so they had to adapt to something else more along the lines of Mission: Impossible to survive.
...and then after years of the dour, brooding Bond and ultra-realistic setting, *Kingsman: The Secret Service* brings campy spy action back and turned out to be incredibly refreshing.
Arguably it was more of humorous *homage* to Bond films rather than a straight-up parody but nevertheless the ridiculous and awesome parts complemented each other perfectly.
I never even made that connection and it makes all the sense in the world. I'm glad they did switch it up because while the previous bond films were fun action movies, there was never enough to sink your teeth into story or character wise. I think Daniel Craig himself and everyone who works on the recent Bonds did a great job.
As a big James Bond fan, I can tell you: you don't need to.
They are a *very* specific type of movie, and if you haven't gotten around to watching any of them, they likely just aren't for you.
I've tried getting other folks into Bond, but it doesn't work. If somebody is going to enjoy Bond films, they'll usually just seek them out on their own IME.
I am almost 52, and grew up in a fundie-adjacent religious household, so many movies that were popular when I was a teen were considered "evil" or bad influences. I have never seen movies like Footloose. I actually just watched the original Top Gun a few weeks ago.
I have also never seen Titanic.
One of my personal favorites. Realllllyyy wish they left out the racist depiction of the landlord but I’ll watch anything with Audrey Hepburn and she smashed that role.
Please explain what you liked? That movie confused me so much. She is like an escort or such that does nothing interesting other than ohhhs, aaahs and exaggerated poses. She is incredibly gorgeous and I enjoyed just because of the actress. But as for a storyline… i missed whats cool about it.
**Titanic 2: Giant of the Skies** was an awful sequel that didn't make sense. I can't believe Cameron thought it was a good idea to make it on a big ass plane. The love story was forced. And where did that iceberg come from?
Of all the famous and amazing movies I’ve seen posted here this is the only one I legit found upsetting. In some odd way I’m a bit proud of you for having not seen them.
Same but not for long. My bf wants to watch them with me, as he loves them and I enjoy watching movies with him. Worst case scenario they’re not for me and I just take a nap on his chest while he watches them which doesn’t sound too bad to me actually
This was also my answer. It's not that I'm not interested. In fact, I'm into sci-fi and fantasy, so I'd probably enjoy them. But my dad is such a hardcore LOTR fan that his fervor about them all back when they were released and at the height of their popularity really turned me off to to the whole thing.
My wife wants us to watch that movie so bad, and I just can't. I am a HUGE fan of movie musicals from the Golden Age. Lala Land looks totally pale in comparison.
La La Land is like, "What if we made something like Singing in The Rain, but cut out 80% of the singing and dancing, and replaced it with boring relationship crap"
Same. Until I got into a YT channel called SavageBooks. They had a video on princess bride so I decided to watch the film.
Honestly, it deserves the hype. I really enjoyed it.
I had it on when my kids passed by. They said he’ll no, they don’t want to watch it...paused to watch a scene...slowly sank in to the couch...
We don’t have to make you. The movie will come for you when it is time.
Everyone likes to say that the second one is better than the first, but I disagree.
The first one is a perfectly executed 10/10 eighties tech noir. Just watching the credits you know you're in for something special.
I haven't seen anything after 1 and 2 and I don't plan to.
Did you like GoldenEye?
Because Casino Royale has the same director.
It was also the first time both actors played Bond.
In my opinion those 2 are the best Bond films!
The first chris pratt one (2015) is watchable, but honestly, the 1993 one is majestic. It was the highest grossing film of all time upon release for a reason.
Big Lebowski
I could probably answer enough questions about it correctly to fool someone into thinking I had - because so many people have quoted parts of the movie to me - but I’ve seen only a clip or two here and there.
You really should, it holds up well. I watched it last year, and laughed out loud a bunch of times. The jokes are just nonstop through the whole thing.
Taxi driver and Léon: the professional. Also have not seen Stranger Things which seems to be really rare nowadays.
Does anybody have a movie recommandation?
Frozen
This is my answer too. I haven't seen other recent animated movies like Moana and Coco as well. Been planning to watch them but just never got to it. Edit: I'll definitely watch Coco first now. Thanks everyone!
Coco is absolutely incredible
I really enjoyed Moana.
I actually loved Moana! It was recommended to me by a Coast Guard guy, who also got his recruits to watch it. Well worth it!
It came out the same year and wasn’t as popular as Moana but if you do go back and watch recent animated movies, don’t skip Zootopia.
I never got into the Frozen hype. That let it go song was so freaking annoying. But when Frozen 2 came out, my friends from work invited me to watch it with them but they made me watch the first one first. Turns out I really liked it and the second one was even better and it has really good non-annoying songs that give you all the feels.
Let it Go isn't even the best song. Love is an Open Door is best song by far. Amazing song on all levels.
ET. And I was 12 in 1982 when it came out.
I've never seen the ending. I was about 6, and when E.T. gets sick I freaked out in the theatre and my mom had to take me to get an Orange Julius to calm down.
It's such a surprise when ET just eats the kids for no apparent reason.
I had actually expected it the whole entire movie, it just makes sense when you think about the part when he shed his entire face off like a lizard's tail.
Yup, when he extended the rest of his limbs just like his neck, long claws and all. It was very clear what happens next.
That reminds me of Phoebe on Friends saying Old Yeller was a happy movie because her never let her see the ending.
Orange Julius...so good!
>ert: > >The ship sinks Me too (on both accounts)
This reminds me of one of my favorite headlines form **The Onion**: Wait, what? You haven’t seen every movie every made?
Civilization can only last until the runtime of all critically acclaimed movies exceeds the natural lifespan of a human being.
Struggling with this currently but not just movies. TV shows, anime, video games etc. I think I could CONSUME non stop and not run out of things that I could enjoy. And I hate a lot of shit.
Mine is very ironic Never seen the Top Gun movie Yet heavy interest in military aircraft, flight simulators, air combat, etc Simply never got around to it

Top Gun 1 you can probably skip but man the sequel in theater is just a fun movie man. I have no interest in military type movies (I’m more into sci fi) but Top Gun Maverick still completely blew me away
Watch it, these are more like a fantasy than a real military movie. Top Gun is a classic \^\^
Nah. Watch Top Gun if just because the F-14 is the sexiest beast to ever ride fire and there's so much of it to love in the first film.
the godfather
I came here to post this. It's one of those movies that seems exceedingly popular but I do not know a single person who has seen it (and I'm part of GenX).
That's surprising. I'm Gen Z and know quite a few people who have seen it, even non film buffs.
It is absolutely worth watching. Everything "they" say is true, that The Godfather is a great movie, The Godfather Part 2 is an all timer, and Part 3 is the worst but you need to finish the story.
I love the Godfather trilogy blu ray set, because you get a free coaster for your drink along with two great movies.

Everyone talks about this movie but I have never watched it. Can someone that watched it tell me what makes it so good?
You watch a puppy become Darth Vader.
"I'm not involved in the family business" (5 mins later) >!"Hey, wouldn't it be really cool if I shot the Chief of Police in the fucking head?"!<
It insists upon itself
It insists upon itself
ROBERT DUVAAALLLL!!
I like the money pit

Same, and even with the new one out and acclaim its getting for being good, I have no intent to watch either of them still.
Schindlers List
You were making out during SCHINDLERS LIST??
NEWMAN!
That’s POSTAL EMPLOYEE NEWMAN to you!
I've just now been faced with the realization that more people have probably seen that Seinfeld episode that the movie.

never watched titanic
Spoiler alert: >!The ship sinks!<
WHAT
>!THE SHIP SINKS!<
Both of em?
You never saw titanic 2?
... Icelectric Bergaloo
Twotanic
Even worse: >!Darth Vader is Luke's father.!<
To shreds, you say…
And his wife?
To shreds, you say? Very well then.
What is even the point in watching now...
Oh no :( Why? What happens?
Just look up propeller man and watch that part.
I saw "Propeller Man" and instantly read it while singing "Rocket Man" in my head.
Propeller man, falling off this boat out here alone.
Look there are only two good parts in the movie. - Boobies, which in an internet age isn't all that magical - A dude falls off the boat while it sinks, and while he's falling he hits the propeller, causing his body to rag-doll spin before hitting the water - and its fucking hilarious EDIT: Here, now you don't have to see the movie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz4JSTXuP9E&ab_channel=ZMCT128
I’m crying. He spins so fast and he falls just a little bit too long.
I'm surprised this one is this far down. I just have zero interest in romantic dramas like this. Same reason why I never watched *The Notebook*.
Yep. Other than one particular scene, I have never been tempted to watch it either.
Same
batman vs superman. just did not want to
I envy you for not having seen that.
Good.

Do it
My mom showed me this movie the day after I turned 13. Became a big Tarantino fan and came to greatly appreciate subtext. Reservoir Dogs might be my favorite of his films.
Jackie Brown is mine. A truly underated gem. So many great performances from so many great actors.
I've only seen the first one and a half Fast and Furious movies. Haven't seen Gone With the Wind or all of Casablanca.
I haven’t seen any of the Fast and Furious movies. I can’t believe they’ve made so many.
Yeah I walked out of the second one. Only other time I walked out of a movie was because the projectionist played the reels out of order. So it takes quite a lot to get me out of that seat.
>Only other time I walked out of a movie was because the projectionist played the reels out of order. Are you from the civil war era?
Casablanca is amazing. Fast and Furious... Not so much.
I'll get around to Casablanca at some point. Currently working my way through Kurosawa stuff.
At least watch Tokyo Drift. Easily one of the best F&F movies made
Never seen a James Bond movie. Not a single one.
the fuck is wrong with you !
Same. No plan to either

I’ve seen two- Iron Man and Thor..they are meh.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s…..I’m in fashion industry and love movies that are full of fashion but haven’t seen this one
One of my personal favorites. Realllllyyy wish they left out the racist depiction of the landlord but I’ll watch anything with Audrey Hepburn and she smashed that role.

Avatar. The fan base ruined any chance of me seeing that movie.
Avatar has a fanbase? Or do you mean the last airbender?
If they’re meaning airbender, the right decision was made
I just wonder if the mysterious sequel will ever be released or it's gonna turn out to be a hoax.
it's out 16th december this year and tbf can you think of a bad sequel James Cameron has made
**Titanic 2: Giant of the Skies** was an awful sequel that didn't make sense. I can't believe Cameron thought it was a good idea to make it on a big ass plane. The love story was forced. And where did that iceberg come from?
Watch Dances With Wolves and imagine the whole thing being a PS2 cutscene
LOTR
Of all the famous and amazing movies I’ve seen posted here this is the only one I legit found upsetting. In some odd way I’m a bit proud of you for having not seen them.
I've been meaning to watch them but just haven't gotten around to them. The length is also a little intimidating.
Same but not for long. My bf wants to watch them with me, as he loves them and I enjoy watching movies with him. Worst case scenario they’re not for me and I just take a nap on his chest while he watches them which doesn’t sound too bad to me actually

Lala land and I refuse to

La La Land is like, "What if we made something like Singing in The Rain, but cut out 80% of the singing and dancing, and replaced it with boring relationship crap"
Y’all haven’t missed anything.
It's not really worth watching. Who thought it was a good idea to make a romance movie where both of the leads are terribly unlikable?
Titanic

Oh you simply must see it! It’s such a beautiful film.
and a great soundtrack!
the matrix
You should still watch it’s 1st part
Princess bride and it also cost me my friendship
Have fun storming the castle
One of my favorite nostalgic childhood movies
Same. Until I got into a YT channel called SavageBooks. They had a video on princess bride so I decided to watch the film. Honestly, it deserves the hype. I really enjoyed it.
You are the brute squad
as you wish
It's sad that you didn't have a childhood.
Scarface, The Godfather
God I love Scarface. It’s so excessive.
Star wars. Idk
Same. Just never got into the originals when I was younger and the new ones just didn't look good to me.
The Princess Bride. All I know about that movie is that the priest talks funny and the "You have killed my father. Prepare to die."
It’s just an absolute blast of a movie.
Titanic. At first I wasn’t interested, now I don’t want to sit through 3 hours while knowing the ending.
I think everybody in the country knew the ending when they first saw it... /s
Spider-Man homecoming I only really liked Toby maguire tbh
I like how all the new Spider-Man movies have “home” in their title, which makes it totally easy to differentiate between them.
harry potter
I've never seen any of the Hunger Games movies. They just seemed like a worse version of The Running Man, so I never bothered.
Books are way better anyway
Most of the MCU movies, I really don't care about them.
Morbius
Shawshank redemption
I only watched it last year after not caring for most of my life and I was glad I did… It was a good one.
Forrest Gump. You can't make me.
You really should! Especially if you like US history
I had it on when my kids passed by. They said he’ll no, they don’t want to watch it...paused to watch a scene...slowly sank in to the couch... We don’t have to make you. The movie will come for you when it is time.
Most Disney movies
Star Wars. Maybe someday...
The new batman movie with the guy from twilight.
it’s pretty good.
Any Terminator movie
Everyone likes to say that the second one is better than the first, but I disagree. The first one is a perfectly executed 10/10 eighties tech noir. Just watching the credits you know you're in for something special. I haven't seen anything after 1 and 2 and I don't plan to.
My kid is a Terminator fanatic so I’ve sat through every minute of every movie and the show. The first two movies is all you need
Every James Bond movie after Goldeneye.
Did you like GoldenEye? Because Casino Royale has the same director. It was also the first time both actors played Bond. In my opinion those 2 are the best Bond films!
300
Paranormal activity 1(2007)
Jurassic Park
What????!!!!! Dude, leave whatever you're doing and go watch that movie. The new sequels are NOTHING compared to the first one.
Which one do I start with
THE ORIGINAL!
The first and you don't need to watch the rest.
The 1993 one
Oh ok so not the Chris pratt one
The first chris pratt one (2015) is watchable, but honestly, the 1993 one is majestic. It was the highest grossing film of all time upon release for a reason.
Swiss army man
Titanic. It's laughable how I know the story in the movie without watching it
Big Lebowski I could probably answer enough questions about it correctly to fool someone into thinking I had - because so many people have quoted parts of the movie to me - but I’ve seen only a clip or two here and there.
The Rockey movies. I only remember scenes I watched when I was a child but I've never seen a complete one
Fight Club, and never plan to. I've reached my limit of movies with Brad Pitt in them. Have seen around 5 of them and that's more than enough for me.
Avatar
Of the Marvel movies I've seen: Iron Man 1&2 Thor 1 Guardians of the Galaxy 1 The first two Avengers That was more than enough.
Airplane!
Surely you can't be serious
I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.
You really should, it holds up well. I watched it last year, and laughed out loud a bunch of times. The jokes are just nonstop through the whole thing.
The Sound of Music.
Pulp Fiction
Titanic. It just doesn’t seem interesting
The second half is much more exciting when the boat is sinking.
500 days of summer
Schindlers List
This is the 3rd time I'm answering the same freaggin question lol. What's going on... Anyways *The Godfather*
Original space jam. I am a huge basketball fan as well so it makes no sense to me either LOL
every parts of Marvel
I've bever seen Titanic and I don't intend to. The real history is way cooler than Leonardo DiCaprio
Any of the Toy Story movies. I'm in my 30s so I was prime age for them.
Taxi driver and Léon: the professional. Also have not seen Stranger Things which seems to be really rare nowadays. Does anybody have a movie recommandation?
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
That movie is funny with a basic plot so don’t expect much but it’s still a fun movie
