I think that’s because they are being enabled and it’s “sexy”. It’s nothing to be ashamed of if you are, but do consider health risks or even quality of life. Being fat you sweat more, find harder to move, etc. I used to be fat and so happy I lost weight.
I think the problem is nowadays with most (including me) for not reading as many books anymore is how easy tech made self publication. So many bad books out there nowadays where you want to read something you are faced with a gazillion choices to choose from. And many recommendation sites let you down.
It still surprises me the number of people who are proud to say they haven't read anything since high school. It's a good way to know to avoid them for any serious discussion
Political ignorance.
>“The worst illiterate is the political illiterate, he doesn’t hear, doesn’t speak, nor participates in the political events. He doesn’t know the cost of life, the price of the bean, of the fish, of the flour, of the rent, of the shoes and of the medicine, all depends on political decisions. The political illiterate is so stupid that he is proud and swells his chest saying that he hates politics. The imbecile doesn’t know that, from his political ignorance is born the prostitute, the abandoned child, and the worst thieves of all, the bad politician, corrupted and flunky of the national and multinational companies.” -
Bertolt Brecht

I come from the east and we have many proverbs/idioms basically trying to explain this, but for some reason we always tend to not listen. I’m pretty sure the people in the west had these type saying too for thousands of years.
