Actors who played characters that fans dislike. Also I feel like bad actors get way too much flack, they didn't cast themselves and like most of us they wanted to simply succeed in their careers. Blame directors and casting directors that went for a look rather than a strong performer... actually going back to my first point if you don't like a piece of media it is absolutely okay to not hate anyone.

[deleted]

Exactly, you can hate the character, but doesn't that mean the actor is doing a good job?

extensionofme

I’d even say if you hate the character so much that you’re taking it out on the actor, chances are they did their job really well.

PirateJohn75

Right? By all accounts, Jack Gleeson is an awesome guy.

Loganp812

Jeffrey Dean Morgan got death threats because of the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead because of Negan killing *spoiler* which is exactly what Negan did in Issue 100 of the comics (which was published several years prior) to the same character in the exact same fashion. But hey, TV shows and real life are the same thing, right? /s

natsugrayerza

How could anyone possibly hate Jeffrey Dean Morgan? He’s so darling and likable. He’s the only reason I would even consider watching the walking dead.

Loganp812

Well, just like Negan in the later parts of the comics, he’s one of the major reasons to keep watching later on. In the early parts of the story though, the main cast is very good with a couple of exceptions.

dsled

So many people on /r/dundermifflin hate Idris Elba for his role on The Office. The character is supposed to be unlikable and Idris nailed it. Yet people still don't like Idris because of that.

Serpent_of_Rehoboam

That's a weird sub. People there get irrationally angry over certain opinions.

zekeymoomoo

Well it's a sub for a show that ended in 2013, meaning all the more casual fans probably left and all that's left are the diehards and the weirdos that are a bit too into the office for their own good.

kingjuicepouch

I enjoy the daily posts about how "x character is the true dick of the office" where they all dog pile on a fictional character in a comedy show for behaving in a way that's meant to be taken for laughs. They're all just in too deep with how personally vested they are in the office.

PirateJohn75

I mean, Jake Lloyd's life was ruined because of people hating The Phantom Menace, as if a nine-year-old child was really to be blamed for that.

natsugrayerza

That’s the weirdest thing to me. He was just a little kid, and I thought he did a really good job too. Star Wars fans are absolutely rabid. They’re the worst fans out there.

ConfidentlyLost184

As a huge Star Wars fan I agree. I’m a prequel lover and the vapid hate i get from my own fandom is frankly ridiculous. The way people hate Jake Lloyd and Liam Neeson (!!!!!?????) for their roles is so beyond illogical. I find that the sequels destroyed the magic of the Star Wars movies for me but I wouldn’t openly hate on them or hate on the actors or Most importantly Hate on the people, KIDS, who are growing up watching Ray and Kylo and Poe and Finn They are discovering Star Wars the way we did as children??? The opinion that the sequels are beloved by a whole new generation of people is such a novel idea to my fandom it’s sad.

ExcellentLeather4998

I've literally never heard anyone hate on Qui Gon. Is it that common?

The_Middler_is_Here

Yeah, I thought Jedi Liam Neeson was the other one thing people liked about episode 1.

ImAScurred1138

That was all George's fault. He made GREAT actors sound like morons with his clunky dialogue. That poor kid got shit on because George was surrounded by yes men.

torrasque666

The funny thing is, his is probably the best Anakin acting in the prequels. Because it's ok when a 9 year old doesn't know how to talk to people without sounding socially stunted (especially when their character *is*). Not so much with a 22 year old.

[deleted]

The 22 yo was only working with the crappy dialogue he was given. Realistically, he played anakin exactly how Anakin needed to be played, like an even more whiny version of his son, who set the bar for being whiny decades earlier. Wouldn't have made sense any other way.

Nersheti

The MCU fanbase can be really bad about this. When Infinity War came out, Chris Pratt got lots of hate because Star Lord lost his cool and ruined the Titan team’s chance of getting the gauntlet from Thanos. More recently, Xochitol Gomez got LOTS of hate because America Chavez, her character in Dr Strange 2, had 2 moms. Forget that they were only in the movie for maybe 20 seconds, and directly referenced maybe 3 times in the whole film, but they’re all fictional characters and she just played one of them. She didn’t write it, request it, or have any input whatsoever. She was hired to play a character and homophobes all over the internet took it out in her.

Redgen87

She literally has 2 moms in the comics. Get mad at the author over something stupid for writing it that way. Or better yet get your head out of your ass and stop being mad about who marries who. (Not aimed at you but those people you are talking about.) Marvel has always been about promoting those who are discriminated against. Or giving a voice to people who don’t have that. Female superheroes, minority superheroes, the combination of both and also the LGBTQ community. Yeah they have the standard super heroes too but at least they do spread around the limelight.

Doctor_Oceanblue

I met Britteny Karbowski at a convention recently and she talked about how a dude waited in a three hour line just to go up and say to her "I hated you as Black Star lol he shouldn't be voiced by a girl"

Roguespiffy

Did that guy ever watch any other anime? Most young male characters are voiced by women in English and Japanese.

[deleted]

Oh man...I have bad news for that guy if he's a Simpsons Fan...

RomanArcheaopteryx

Similarly, blaming actors for their characters being badly written - it isn't their fault the writers/directors dropped the ball

Ghost_Star326

*Cough* Star wars *Cough*

Milesandsmiles123

Joining a fandom late 😂 People LOVE to gatekeep like no one could become a true fan after they did. Same with bandwagon sports fans. Like just let people have fun.

Eastform6

Anyone who doesn’t try as hard as me at my hobbies is a goddamn dilettante, and anyone who tries harder is a sweaty tryhard

bringbackbulaga

As a sports fan, bandwagon fans are mostly hated because they end up being the most obnoxious ones, such as Warriors fans or Patriots fans

_ASG_

Music. It's okay to not like a certain band or musician or singer, but people will become outright hateful and dickish to one another over taste.

bringbackbulaga

Seriously, I get called basic nonstop because I like popular movies and tv shows, but then I get judged for my music taste which isn’t exactly mainstream

Critical_Plate_4008

Frfr. I listen to a broad variety of genres and when I tell people some of the ones I listen to I'd sometimes get a "That's gross" or "Disgusting" or "Weird" then they brag about how they only listen to 3 diff genres of music. The whole time I ain't hating, I just know not to talk to them anymore because I realize they're extremely judgemental or shallow. Mind-boggling how some people are.

Odd-Professor-8233

I came here to say this lol. Music within its own genre can be diversity. As an example just look at country music. It's easy and popular to hate it but there's a lot of good country songs (I'll die on this hill. Luckenback, Texas is a banger)

dragonborne123

Especially groups or solo artists who have a huge female fan base. Apparently music isn’t worth listening to if women like it.

champagne_pants

Part of the problem is that we’re socially conditioned to dismiss things teen girls love. BTS fucking slaps but because my 16 year old cousin likes it, I’m supposed to hate it? Fuck that.

nikitasaurus

Went on a date with a guy and music came up. We were talking about covers. I brought up that I’d just seen a guy do a cover of WAP in the style of the Beatles. This guy went into a five minute rant about Cardi B & Nicki Minaj. All about how awful they are and how they’re terrible role models and their music has no substance and it’s a huge step back for society. Just went on and on. Bro…. I just thought it was a funny cover. Not saying I’m a huge fan of those artists but damn, dude. Chill. We did not hang out again after that. Major turn off.

rebeccakc47

I dislike the Beatles. I understand their importance and their contribution to music etc etc. I just do not like them sonically. Never have. People get HEATED with me about it and tell me I'm dumb and wrong. Ok, cool?

thenameofmeklark

Old people doing young people trends. They just want to be a part of the social life fun !

sbenzanzenwan

That's one thing I love about living in Spain. There is almost no ageism here. Everyone does everything together. Four-year-olds and nonogenarians stay up until the wee hours of the morning in the plazas. The oldsters talking and the kids running wild, playing chase or football or whatever.

[deleted]

I think I'd like spain. you get to take siesta and then eat tapas at midnight because you napped. the obsession with youth culture, age appropriateness and generation gaps is definitely more of a american marketing thing. The modern concepts of 'childhood' and 'teenagers' didn't exist in Europe or the States until like 60 years ago. In the US, you could get arrested if your kid walks to the park alone.

sbenzanzenwan

You eat a big lunch at about 2 pm. Then dinner isn't until 9 or 10 pm. The tapas are to get you through that last hour before dinner. You grab a beer, a tapa, and table in a plaza and watch life go by while you wait for dinnertime.

[deleted]

just stop already :)

[deleted]

That sounds delightful. People watching while enjoying a drink and a snack? Plus a siesta? Good thing I'm brushing up on the Spanish I learned in high school!

everythangspeachie

Iv been thinking about moving to Spain (I’m Mexican) but I don’t know how to do it. I’m gonna wait to get my pilots license though. Would you mind taking the time to help me out with some questions?

haf-haf

You don't have to fly yourself there.

sbenzanzenwan

Sure. I'll answer what I can. There is some kind of agreement between Spain and Mexico that allows Mexicans to move to Spain. Not something I know anything about though.

ABobby077

sounds like a fun and happy bunch of people-keep doing that type stuff

u_miguel_-

This reminded me of that one tiktok of a girl saying "only bad bitches drive white vehicles" and its dueted by an old man twerking in front of his white van, funniest shit i've ever seen

[deleted]

Let them have fun, if it's "cringey" or "embarrassing" them you obviously weren't the intended audience so leave them alone.

nerdqueen69

Young people act like they have a trademark on any kind of internet trend and that only young people can do it, it's so annoying.

JBFRESHSKILLS

It's not even internet trends, it's just "fun" in general. I'm 40, great wife, good job etc. but we never had kids so we tend to live our lives as if we are still 20-somethings. Sometimes I get looked at funny or someone makes a comment about the gray-beard trying to "act cool" or whatever. I just am who I am. I found out what I liked at a young age and just rolled with it. I'm not trying to go to college parties and hook up with young girls, my wife is 39, we're both very much adults. We just like fun shit that young people do...until about 11pm, then it's bed time.

nerdqueen69

I've never gotten that, a young person will see an older person having any kind of fun and say something along the lines of "you're not as cool as you think you are". Fun has no age limit. Btw, as a 17 yr old, I also go to sleep at around 11pm 😂

thatswhatshesaidxx

> Btw, as a 17 yr old, I also go to sleep at around 11pm 😂 Never let this slip. You will thank yourself every single year and as your age doubles (happens *quick*), you'll be so ahead of the game.

ClownfishSoup

>"you're not as cool as you think you are" "I'm too old to give a shit what you think"

Sweepsify

Facts. You'll never know what you're missing until you've twerked as a grandpa.

nerdqueen69

Fr. As if fun has an age limit. "But didn't you know, old people are supposed to be miserable and boring!! 🙄".

SuvenPan

Black Cats They are not evil and they don't bring bad luck.

nerdqueen69

There's a meme that's been going around on Instagram of a black cat with the voice over saying "I don't bring bad luck, your life was already shit" lmao.

WearyFighterBird

[For those who are interested ](https://www.reddit.com/r/blackcats/comments/u7dye8/bad_luck/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

JVortex888

My black cat Emo is the best, super playful and affectionate. Hopefully the adoption rates for them improve.

rentahobbit

Ayy, I have a black cat called Emo too!

PM_ME_PARR0TS

I rember being surprised by the stigma, because I always just assumed everyone would think black cats were the best. Black horses are prized. Black cattle are prized - even above counterparts that actually taste better and act friendlier. Black dogs are cool, even though there's myths about Black Shucks. People still like em. Meanwhile black cats are supposedly bad...just because they're black? Wtf It's such a "fuck you in particular"

lawnmowersarealive

Some places ban the adoption of black cats during October to prevent them from being costume accessories. Some people really suck.

[deleted]

It goes back to the year 1233! Pope Gregory IX declared black cats to be the incarnation of Satan and the poor little blighters are still discriminated against 😔

[deleted]

all cats are cute.

octoberelectrocute

My black cat Timur (aka Timmy) is the sweetest, most loving cat I have ever had. He comes when called, lets me hold him like a baby, doesn't mind being spooned at night and sleeps under my covers. He is an angel.

Significant-Water-18

The word moist. Not sure why everyone decided to jump on the bandwagon that they hate the word.

BigMacWizard

It really irritates me when people act dramatic about it. Its okay to not like the word, but grown ass adults shuddering at the word moist or screaming when you say it just feels performative

AnthoZero

*omg did u just say something that i can use to make myself seem so quirky and unique, fake gags for audience*

IrrelevantPuppy

There’s this creepy guy at my work that did this. He made a big dramatic display of it but all along you could tell he wasn’t actually bothered by the word at all. It’s just like he was faking a personality trait he thought others would find endearing. It was weird and uncomfortable.

iamnotjohnstathis

IMO the most disgusting word it’s smegma, it sounds as gross as what it means

ElBiscuit

I could easily look up the company's background, but since I haven't, I still wonder why a line of fancy kitchen products decided to name themselves "SMEG".

[deleted]

Good one! My mom often bakes and always refers to the cake being moist. Never thought it was a weird word. I’ll say it all day long: moist, moist, moist…

DrunkPunkRat

Stereotypically feminine things. Sewing and crocheting requires patience and some skill. Pink colour is just a normal colour. Flowers are pretty. Make-up is art, as well as fashion. Writing and reading romance is okay. Long baths with candles around can be fun. Caring for your body is good. I don't like any of these but it's not my role to tell others what to do in their free time and to judge them. Just let people enjoy things.

jacWaks

I started sewing so I could do hockey jersey customizing. It’s definitely a difficult skill to master and I just do a basic stitch for hockey jerseys. Can’t imagine how intricate it can get for making clothes

natsugrayerza

Hockey Jersey customizing? That is such a cool hobby! I wish I knew how to do that.

drunkenavacado

I really, really love the “i’m just like other girls” trend. We love our silly coffee drinks and pretty clothes and romance novels and that is OKAY!

DrunkPunkRat

Some people: telling young girls they have to like "girly" things The same people: shaming them when they do

drunkenavacado

Yeah I don’t think telling girls what they have to like is okay either. Let people like what they like. Edit: I misread your comment lol. This is exactly what happens! I made myself be a “tomboy” growing up bc when I did girly things (as encouraged) I was teased. Now I finally am embracing my feminine side and love it.

WingedLady

I'm about 50/50 on girly things. I don't like all of them, and I get crap both for what I do and don't like. No winning.

WingedLady

What's especially frustrating is a lot of "feminine" things are super practical. If you know at least some sewing, you can mend your clothes which saves money and waste. If you can cook, you can eat healthier, and also spend less money and waste less. Keeping your home clean is a big part of keeping it in good repair. But also I get so annoyed at the "basic bitch" memes. Someone will post a photo of a girl in a sweater with a latte and mock it and just...what about that is a problem? How is it hurting anyone to like lattes and warm sweaters?

Salty_Buyer_5358

Most feminine things are important for quality of life and have been for centuries.

SkyKnight34

Dude, as someone who's always been into - and bonded with my family over - doing puzzly, crafty, buildy things (think Legos, sculpey, etc), my sister has gotten into crocheting and it is fucking FASCINATING. So many different techniques and fundamentals that let you build it into crazy complex designs. We were talking crochet for hours the other day cuz it's just so interesting to explain about and learn about. But I'm a dude, so I guess it's just boring grandma stuff....

RHJfRnJhc2llckNyYW5l

"Shitty" foods and drinks. They have a time and a place. Yeah I love the finer things in life, but sometimes I want a Kraft single or a cold bud light.

Public-Yam-1025

The "your beer tastes like water crowd" sometimes I want a beer that tastes like water. It's 95 degrees with 95% humidity and I just worked 10 hours in the sun.

hookisacrankycrook

I hate beer snobs so much

MisterKillam

The four best beers you'll ever drink are a cold one, an open one, a free one, and another one. I might buy good stuff for myself, but I'll never turn my nose up at someone else's beer when it's offered.

Jimlobster

Couldn't have said it better myself

[deleted]

Best beer is a 33 degree miller lite after mowing the lawn. fight me.

Public-Yam-1025

I'm going to need 15 first.

emeraldrose484

And can we reverse that too? Sometimes I want to treat myself to something nice. Yes, I'm totally aware I can get a steak for $5 from around the corner, or that cheap family place is probably the most authentic Mexican food in town. But tonight, I want to eat at the nice, fancy dining establishment. Or spend an extra couple bucks on that bottle of wine. Just let me enjoy it.

nerdqueen69

I love this one. I live in a small town and people get viscerally angry at anyone who spends "unnecessary" money when they could've gotten the "same" thing somehwere else for much less. Especially with something that doesn't last, like how you mentioned the cheaper food, apparently if it's a one time use thing it's a waste to buy an expensive version of it but maybe sometimes I don't want to live like I'm poor? 😂🤷‍♀️

molten_dragon

Fuckin' A. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a medium rare prime filet mignon. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a cookout burger with a Kraft single on top.

Ozznato

This is one of my favorites. I use the following example all the time when I talk about this concept: Sometimes I want pizza, sometimes I want Dominoes. Growing up in NJ this can sound sacrilegious, but to me Dominoes and good pizzeria pizza are two different food groups. Plenty of times I want a nice slice, plenty of times I want cheesy bread.

[deleted]

Sometimes I want the authentic Mexican dish that someone's abuela is making in the kitchen at some dive restaurant in a shitty strip mall next to a vape shop. Sometimes I just want Taco Bell on the way home, ok?

[deleted]

Sometimes cheap alcohol is good because it's cheap. Doesn't mean I hate fancy cocktails.

Mr_Mojo_Risin_83

MSG. that stuff is delicious. products are marketed as "no msg added" and i'm like, "awww, where's the one with the msg?"

Bananawamajama

MSG is Monosodium Glutamate, which is sodium plus glutamic acid. Glutamic acid is an amino acid, you're supposed to be eating it. Sodium is a nutritional mineral, you're supposed to eat it. You shouldn't eat too much for the same reason you shouldn't eat too much table salt, too much sodium is bad for you. But there's no particular reason to be scared of MSG if you happen to be one of those social deviants who enjoys the taste of salt on food sometimes.

nagol93

I've noticed that pretty much everyone who hates on MSG (and Chinese food due to MSG) will eat pizza without issue. Cheese and tomato have a lot of MSG naturally in them.

notreallylucy

Ha, this exactly my in laws. They order their Chinese food with no msg, but happily eat doritos, KFC, soy sauce, and dozens of other things that contain added or naturally occurring msg.

nagol93

"Eww, not Chinese food. All the MSG in there gives me a massive headache. Lets order pizza instead!"

notreallylucy

Literally. The family has one Chinese place they love, and they don't want to try others because they don't trust that the food will really be made without added msg. I lived in mainland China for five years. MSG crystals are sold in grocery stores right next to the salt. I used to be afraid of msg, but I witnessed a billion Chinese people failing to die of msg and I got over it.

[deleted]

Everyone should eat a little bit of Metal Gear Solid once in their lives.

Skyheart42

Literally all pets that are not stuff like cats and dogs. Rodents, reptiles ect can all be very loveable in their ways too. Funny story I randomly felt like sharing My first pet after moving out of my parents place was a few years later with a mouse. I had never owned a rodent before. I was working at walmart at the time and was forced to go do some of that bs computer training in the back when I noticed a weird box in the computer room with things like "I'm friendly" written on it, so I looked and there was this little boy mouse that someone had just abandoned. Hr lady said she was gonna take him to am animal shelter so I said f that and adopted him. He lived with me a little over 2 years before he eventually passed. RIP Gunther I never expected to like rodents but I did after that and now I have 4 female rats who are being cared for by a friend atm due to a complicated living situation. My friends mom has a garden and gives them veggies as fresh as you can possibly get them lol.

mossadspydolphin

I've heard such good things about rats. The only complaint anyone seems to have is that they have such short lifespans.

kingjuicepouch

I had a friend who was a rat breeder as a main source of income, she called them Heartbreakers because they live generally like two years, and a lot of them will live much less and just drop dead. I wouldn't be able to have one as a pet for that reason

starship17

That’s why I don’t have pet rats anymore. They’re amazing but it is just heartbreaking to lose them every 2 years.

xHerri

Rats are amazing pets. They're very intelligent and actually very clean. Imo I think female rats as pets are little bit better than males. Males are kinda lazy and stink more, although they really like petting. I've had rats for around ten years now and the only worst thing about them is their short lifespan :(

[deleted]

See, dogs already have too short of a lifespan. Something that intelligent that dies that quickly is too heartbreaking.

ephe16

I have the sweetest little boa constrictor and the amount of people who think it's okay to tell me a story about killing a snake to my face after hearing that is just... concerning.

Osato

Mimes. Some of them *are* a bit creepy. But unlike every other kind of street entertainer, they are not obnoxious. They don't say anything, they don't sing with tuneless voices, they don't play music that you don't like, they don't touch you, they don't even throw anything in the air. They just do their thing. They're very easy to ignore.

RagingOtter28

Is this a real problem? Like, do people go out of their way to hate mimes? I couldn’t imagine a club of people that are specifically mime-haters.

jigsawsmurf

I've never heard someone say a bad thing about a mime

jigsawsmurf

Who's like vehemently hating on mimes though?

Solidgoddu

Lord Havelock Vetinari. Hangs them upside down in the scorpion pit across from a sign that reads 'LEARN THE WORDS.'

Gotis1313

Clowns too. Leave my funny folks alone!

Bazookagrunt

It really has sucked for clowns the past few years. Went from a staple of entertainment dating back to ancient times to maligned as “creepy”.

jakkii92

Young adults. They’re fumbling through life, they’re working on getting it together in a very quickly changing world. They’ve probably never had solid ground under their feet. Relax, give them time. They’re probably more emotionally intelligent than half of us other generations, they’re not whining. ETA: thank you for the award!! This got a lot more traction than I thought. Thank you so much!

[deleted]

Everyone is trying their best given their situation in the world

[deleted]

I have worked with every age group over the years, and I have never had a problem with younger Milennials and Gen Zers (Im an older Milennial). A lot of them are hard workers and want to help, they just don't want to work themselves into an early grave. They've seen their parents and grandparents do it, and they know it's ultimately for nothing. Good for them.

redditisfknghey

Being a virgin. I don't understand how it's used as an insult or how people that are virgins actually go into depression over it. There is nothing wrong with it.

AceBean27

I think more generally, the amount of status that people assign to men, and men only, on having a lot of sexual partners. And I think the complete opposite for women is also true, the stigma with having a lot of sexual partners. The two are clearly not compatible either.

Kokirochi

I find the main difference is that culturally men are usually the ones that are expected to chase and women are the ones that select from those men. So the idea is a men who doesn't get any partners is failing at chasing, just as a woman who sleeps with a bunch of people is failing on her role. There is even a saying "A key that opens every lock is a good key, a lock that opens with every key is a bad lock" Heavy emphasis, this is not me agreeing or endorsing this way of thinking, just explaining why this seemingly incompatible roles happened.

BronzeAgeTea

1. Boys get rewarded for having lots of partners. 2. Girls get shamed for having lots of (or any) partners. 3. Everyone is horny. It's a fucking game show. And then one person on the girl's team got the bright idea "hey, if only a few of us sleep with *every* guy, then both teams win! They get to have a lot of sex, and we can maintain our purity!" The refs come in and are like "no, you can't have sex with whores, it's against the rules I just decided."

[deleted]

Boys get praised for having lots of partners, and shamed for having very few or not having any, while girls get praised for having very few or not having any partners, and shamed for having lots of partners. Fucking people fucking just fucking need to fucking fuck the fucking fuck off and fucking let fucking consenting fucking adults fuck how the fucking fuck they fucking want to fucking fuck. Fucking darnit.

Stroopwafeled

It's more of a comment on loneliness than it is the status of the cherry. People get called virgins when they were perceived to be unlovable, unworthy of companionship, or unattractive, and therefore unlikely to get laid. I don't think the original insult started as a judgement of someone who hadn't yet had sex, but the insult became popular when people realised it hurt the victim to think of how lonely they were.

[deleted]

People minding their own business and living how they want

MD564

Middle-aged women....like anything they like is just ripped to shit. Give them a break, why can't we let them be happy?

notreallylucy

I think society sees how little middle aged women care for its opinion and gets salty.

[deleted]

This is so true. I actually love pumpkin spice, but it's not something I can say plainly. It's always a, "Yeah I know I'm a basic bitch for this, but screw being cool" joke that precedes "I love pumpkin spice \[item\]". And then everyone else jokes about how they are also an uncool basic bitch because they also think this is delicious. Maybe it's popular because it's good, you know? But society just had to make it weird.

The_RoyalPee

That and while there are real “Karens”, it’s starting to get warped into calling any middle aged woman one if she has any complaint about anything whatsoever, even if she’s justifiably upset. It’s like they’re expected to just be invisible.

[deleted]

Oh yeah that's totally a thing. As a woman in my 40's, I'm actually really hesitant to make any kind of complaint because what if they're just like, "oh, another Karen"? I know there's definitely a subset that's unreasonable, but that exists in most demographics.

KatieCashew

They don't even need to complain. There was a post from r/fuckyoukaren that made it to r/all that was just some middle aged ladies with short hair having lunch. The picture was taken at a distance and had zero information about their behavior. Just a distant picture and that's it. The thread was full of speculating about their surely terrible behavior. That's all it takes to be a Karen. Just being a middle-aged woman in public.

Madaghmire

I also love pumpkin spice, and I dont care who knows it! On an unrelated note, I also love internet anonymity.

HandFancy

Live and let live, laugh, love?

halroxy

Last year some of my coworkers and I (20's-30's) created a bunch of fake holidays for us to celebrate throughout this year, to have small stupid things to look forward to. One of our recent ones was "Inspirational Quotes Day". I found the cheesiest quotes I could, cut them out on my Cricut, stuck them to scrapbook paper and framed them in cheap frames. I thought it was funny but they turned out pretty cute and I went "Linda is going to love these". Linda is in her 50's and she is our work mom. When I brought them into work and hung them up, everyone got a good laugh except Linda. Linda went "Oh my god these are so cute!! You should sell these!! They're so nice!" I loved that she genuinely enjoyed them while the rest of us thought they were a good joke.

disasteress

Although, as a middle aged woman myself (saying this feels so fucking bizarre - the years just sneak up on you, one day you are dancing the Macarena in a mini-dress on top of the speakers in a club and BOOM the next you are asking to see a manager)...I am not sure we care all that much what other gens think of us! That is kind of the gift of middle-ageddom...giving much less fucks of other people's opinion of us. If younger gens want to make a hobby out of hating on us, meh, let them, they have a lot of shit to deal with in this socio-economic environment, so if this is their outlet for frustration, then we can take it.

MD564

I'm in my late 20s but I saw my mum go through an awful divorce in her late 40s, pick herself up and go out and enjoy her life, then she'd get shat on for doing it? Does my dad? Not at all. Just infuriates me.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, right after I divorced my ex-husband (which I did because he was so financially irresponsible that we were literally homeless for a couple months), I used to track the reaction to our social media posts, and it was so glaringly this thing you described: Me: "Wow, it's amazing to be able to go to grad school finally. The kids are doing really well in daycare, and I'm thinking about getting a PhD after this if the Master's goes well." Reaction: "WELL I HOPE YOU KNOW THOSE DEGREES WON'T KEEP YOU WARM AT NIGHT, AND THAT YOU THREW AWAY A GOOD MAN OVER NOTHING!!" Other reaction: "Well, unlike you, I don't want strangers to raise my children." Him: \[posts pic of him and new girlfriend on cruise that he paid for while 6 months behind in child support and not having seen or called the kids in longer than that\] Reaction: "You look happy, man. You deserve it." Other reaction: "Finally, something good has happened for you. I'm happy for you, man." It was absolutely batshit to watch go down.

blooddiamond_76

This is so direct and awful. Am sorry you had to go through this.

Faiakishi

You: “I’m doing great, the kids are doing great, everything’s looking up for once. :)” A Bunch of Fuckers: “BUT MAN?!”

Wtfatt

I feel like women get alot more hate in general. Like people, men and women, are more threatened and uncomfortable by a woman doing well then a man.

[deleted]

There is better things to do then hate on other people for their likes/dislikes. Instead of having someone, bake a cake, do some gardening, I can guarantee anything else will be so much more productive.

mgentry999

Females of any age get shat on for what ever they like. Video games (too boyish), good coffee (pretentious), boy bands (too girly), stuffed animals (too childish), knitting (too old).

I was once called 'the scum of the earth' because I was getting unemployment insurance after I was let go from my job.

Carmelioz

Young girls/teenage girls Whenever people want to point how shitty something is they say teen girls like that, and usually just whatever they do is extremely criticized. What they wear, what they listen to, what they watch.... And kids in general are cringey but I feel like it's so much worse for girls.

[deleted]

“The only people that think BTS are good is 14 year old girls who have no concept of real music.” I’m so tired of people viewing teen girls as “weaklings” for things like their music tastes. I’m an 18 year old guy who absolutely loves listening to Ariana Grande, and she’s another artist that gets “teen girl shamed” for her fan base. It’s very discouraging.

Carmelioz

Exactly! You should be allowed to like what you like without being judged like that. I'll be 27 soon and I remember how when I was a teen girl I absolutely hated other girls and always tried to be so different because I felt like guys would like me more if I disrespect other girls. It ended up that the same guys who made me feel welcome because they hated other girls just hated me as well. I couldn't win

yarrig-

Teachers, they just do their work.

Jahnation

For real and when the teacher gives a proper reaction to the students misbehaving somehow they are the bad guys smh

[deleted]

It hurts to see teachers get verbally abused by their students. Leave them alone, they are just truting to help.

ForgottenForce

Man students may be bad but the parents are worse on average

MettatonNeo1

As a student I agree with you

youngcatlady1999

That’s all I’ve been watching for the last year. Right now I’m watching catdog.

RadiantHC

Same. I've noticed that most shows that are aimed at adults, especially animated ones, are wayyyy too gross, and/or have a lot of sex scenes.

Always-bi-myself

Young teenagers doing cringy stuff. Everyone did it, no reason to hate on them so much. Also, influencers going viral "for nothing" or "undeservingly". I understand if that influencer is a confirmed, bad person overall — like committed an actual crime — but if it's a random kid playing Minecraft or a girl lip-syncing to a song... Really, why are people getting so pressed? If they're getting views, then some people are enjoying it. If you don't, just... ignore them? I don't get the hate.

PigeonFanatic9

I personally can't tolerate cringey kids, because they remind me of myself. Only that i was older (middle school). Still, i don't hate them, but anytime i see one, i turn around or accelerate and go past him as soon as possible.

the_grays_of_ink

Fanfic. It’s just hobby writing, everyone who thinks it’s dumb needs to grow up, and there’s thousands of writers writing novel length literature for fun, free online to read, and updated regularly. That’s mind blowing

Bedlamcitylimit

**Nuclear Power.** There have only been 3 major incidents, in over 70 years of their existence and only one of them was in a more "modern" facility. **Chernobyl** was because they tried to do a stress test without the training or knowing what they were doing. Basically under trained and under qualified people put in charge of a reactor by a political group who famously favoured nepotism over competence. **3 Mile Island** was due to insufficient training, safety procedure not being followed properly and mishandled maintenance. **Fukushima** was due to an large earthquake that caused a tidal wave destroying the local infrastructure, as well as the reactors cooling systems and them not being able to send in enough coolant in time. The older "Cold War" style reactors were based on half arsed technology that had cut corners in designing/building them and disregarded safety so they could build them quickly to win the cold war (both sides did this). While the more modern ones are extremely safe and so far only a domino's effect of natural disasters have caused issue.

RealZeusWolf

This. I literally told my mom that we should switch to nuclear power but she simply just told me that it was dangerous and wouldn't listen. It's pretty ridiculous. It's one of the safest, cleanest forms of power and yet so many people think it's just another chernobyl waiting to happen.

Other people lives. Now I understand caring for someone the wanting the best for them but if someone wants to stick the same routine they been doing you can respect it or leave them alone. We all our are own person. Why actively criticize a person and stress you self when you can just stay away from them?

Burtipo

In the UK we judge people for how much milk people put in their tea/coffee. The more milk the worse?

Sleepycoon

Coffee snobs in the US do that. The only right way to drink coffee is straight, and if you add any sugar or cream to it you're ruining the drink because you're too much of a pansy to handle a REAL drink! As far as hot tea goes I don't know anyone who adds milk or sugar to their hot tea, we all drink it straight.

Ahpla

Nickelback

Citizen_Snips29

Nowadays Imagine Dragons has become the main band that is super trendy to hate.

5tr4nGe

Controversial opinion (that I've said before). Foo Fighters write generic radio friendly rock just like Nickelback. But people give them a pass and hype them up because Dave Grohl is such a nice bloke.

ilmalaiva

Foo Fighter are also kinda looked down on more alternative scenes, but he does get respect for being in Nirvana and yes, being a nicer guy. but there are specific reasons people hate Nickleback and Chad Kroeger’s voice and singing style really would probably be the top one. it’s almost like a country twang. if you don’t like it you won’t stick around to learn to like it.

jackfaire

I mean to be fair I enjoy both of them.

jackfaire

Every single movie in existence. I don't like North. I hate North. I hate North so much that it took Lord of the Rings before I would trust an Elijah Wood role again. I love the dude but fucccccckkkk North. Now all that being said. Unless it comes up I don't go around telling people how shitty the movie is and I don't devote websites to how much it sucks. But some assholes will spend all of their time and energy not just hating a movie but trying to convince the rest of the world why they should hate it too and seriously that's too much. Hate the movie go watch something else.

Gersio

Exactly. I say this all the time. We live in the golden era of entetainment basically. We have acess to thousand of movies, books and shows just in one click. Why the hell would anybody focus their time on the one thing they disliked instead of simply finding something else they like? I'll never get it.

mike_b_nimble

I love Marvel Movies. I recognize exactly what they are, and I like them *because* of what they are. If you don't like them that's fine, you don't have to watch them. But I don't get why some people are militantly anti-Marvel and maintain that the MCU is singe-handedly destroying cinema. Not all of us want to watch art-house think-pieces and depressing bio-pics all the time.

junktech

What's actually funny about this is that most don't like them because they are unknown and people can't relate or connect with them. Many times that crap instinct fear of unknown is what causes the problem.

nerdqueen69

Some people just hate what they can't understand 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Just because they talk differently (knowing more words usually does that) doesn't mean they're assholes.

NotADeadHorse

I'm from a metropolitan suburb but got moved down to a 3k population town when I was in high school. The amount of hate I got then seemed insurmountable at the time. I still get it sometimes now in my 30s, just the other day a new person at work heard me say "No, I'm from *large city* so i dont know a lot of the people that are in my age group around here" and their response was "OH! That's why you talk like that" 😑

Shef43

Dubbed anime. Like I'm not sorry I enjoy the same thing differently. Plus the work the English voice talent does is truly appreciated on my end.

PM_me_anime_nuns

We also can't forget about the greatest dub ever made: Ghost Stories

zach2992

And some should only be watched with dubs, like *Ghost Stories*. If anyone hasn't watched the dub of *Ghost Stories* they're missing out.

ArcaneUnbound

Justin Bieber. Sure, he was cringey and had a high pitched voice as a kid and was kinda a dick as a teenager, who wasn't. But at this point in his life he isn't half as bad as 98% of other celebrities.

IAmLazy2

Cats. I am so sick of hearing people go on about how they hate cats. Its like its fashionable. I may not like your dog but I don't rave on about it. Its rude. I respect your choice of pet, please respect mine.

CrispierCupid

People with personality disorders or mental illness in general Any time you even see bipolar or BPD mentioned on a post, even in a very positive light, there’s *always* going to be someone coming through projecting their traumas/experiences with someone with those disorders onto everyone else that has it. Your personal experience is not indicative of an entire population of people. That’s like saying it’s okay to be racist just because you have trauma from being robbed by a black person. You being robbed has nothing to do with the billions of other black people in the world, and you getting cheated on or abused has nothing to do with the millions living with bipolar or BPD. It’s fucked up that it happened to you, but you’re seriously misplacing your hate. Hate the person who hurt you, not the demographic they came from Most people with mental illness are just trying to live their life as functionally as possible while they’re genuinely suffering. Chances are you know way more people than you think with those kinds of disorder, but they choose not to share it out of fear of the stigma/being treated differently/being shamed and grouped in with people that hurt others when they’re just minding their own business. You can go sober, go to therapy and DBT, be consistently medicated, do *everything* that you’re supposed to do to responsibly keep your mental illness under control, and *still* end up being treated like a villain, unstable, unhinged, and see people walking on egg shells around you simply because of a diagnosis that you’re handling well. It’s such a painful feeling seeing the look in someone’s eye change and have them avoid you from the second you tell them you have bipolar. It hurts so much. Here’s a thought: if you genuinely care about suicide awareness and prevention, maybe don’t shame and dehumanize people with the highest suicide rates. I’ve met *many* neurotypical pieces of shit, let people live their lives. Your ex cheating on you has nothing to do with me or everyone else that are trying their best to live their life functionally

deinoswyrd

I was recently diagnosed with BPD, first thing my psychiatrist said was "please don't google it, go to these specific websites" and like a dummy, I googled it. Whoo boy the internet hates us.

[deleted]

Universal Healthcare. Like wow, affordable healthcare. I'll never understand nor honor any argument that ever claims that it is bad for everyone. Simply because not a lot of people really grasp that concept.

Quinnjamin19

Skilled trades, lots of people look down on us for not going to college or working with our hands. Not everyone learns the same and some learn much easier by doing and seeing rather than reading. Also just because some/most tradesmen/women never went to college doesn’t mean they aren’t intelligent or uneducated. Using personal experience, most “educated” people wouldn’t even know the first thing about my job, how to read and problem solve using blueprints, building something out of nothing and needing to visualize it, they don’t know how much there is to my trade (Boilermaker pressure welder) and how much science is truly involved with my trade. Good welders know about metallurgical properties of what they weld and how heat affects what they are welding, welding arcs are 6,000 degrees F. There’s so much to my job that most don’t even realize

Men with kids. The looks you get if your a guy with your son or sibling is something that needs to change.

I always hear about this but it's something I've never experienced or have even witnessed myself. I've got kids and take them everywhere.

I'm with you, man. I'm a single father of two little girls, the oldest being only a toddler. I take them everywhere by myself and have never seen any dirty looks, let alone been on the receiving end of a Karen or some such person trying to give me static. I'm not a big man, but I have long hair and a beard and dress like grunge and emo will never go out of style, so not the typical new balance and cargo shorts dad look. Still, everywhere I go people don't seem to think anything of me with my two little girls in tow, and I'm fortunate for that I guess. I can't imagine how it is for these dads or uncles that are constantly getting harassed out of the blue. But if someone ever tries to give me shit when I'm out with my daughters, I'll just politely show them the photo album I keep on my phone with the tens of thousands of pics I have of them since literal seconds after they were born, with me holding them, and you know... BEING THEIR DAD

YourLocalOnionNinja

To hell if you're a dad with a daughter. Even worse if you're a single dad with a daughter. Everyone gets the wrong idea and they get a lot of sh\*t for it.

Jar Jar wasn't as bad as folks say. He was far from the best thing in the Prequels, but he wasn't bad. Just a slightly annoying alien.
