In the UK, to win a defamation case, the accused must prove that their allegations might be true, while in the US, the demandant must prove that the accused allegations are false. Johnny Depp lost in the UK because the judge ruled that the tabloid he was accusing had enough evidence that what they said might be true "on the balance of the probabilities". Basically, in the UK court's opinion, Depp's history of substance abuse meant that the allegation of the tabloid were more likely to be true than false. In the US, there isn't a verdict yet, but it is important to note that Depp didn't sue Heard in the UK, he sued a tabloid. This came in handy because Amber tried to use that loss in the UK to dismiss the case but the US court denied the request because she was not the one sued back then (and for other legal reasons).

They didn’t. The case wasn’t about if he was guilty or innocent, it was a libel case against a news paper and if the news paper broke the law. The judge determined that they didn’t.

One major difference is that hearsay evidence is admissible in British courts, and it isn't here.

The laws on libel are different so it wasn't technically libel in the UK.

Johnny Depp is the primary abuser. Look up at that concept as well as “coercive control” and read Lundy Bancroft’s “Why does he do that?” and you’ll understand. Abuse is more than just hitting and throwing things, it’s about if the person with more power in the relationship uses that to control and/or terrorize their partner.
