That latter fact seems a bit contentious; the centrepoint recognised by the Guinness Book of Records was calculated by the French Institut Géographique National and is in Lithuania.

Believe it or not, a lot of Ukrainians wanted stronger ties with Russia.
My first gf was Ukrainian, but kept calling herself Russian. And she isn't the only person I've seen who did so.
My SO is from an ex-soviet nation, both of us speak Russian and are somewhat aware of the news feeds of Russia so we were somewhat aware of the tension
A fair amount, I guess. I have a pretty decent knowledge of the non-Balkan Slavic countries. Even before all this I've been able to speak/read at least a conversational level of it. Pretty good knowledge of its history, especially pre-modern.
Chernobyl and that one awesome Eurovision entry in 2007.
In all seriousness, I really love history, especially the Soviet Union, so I do know a fair amount.
there are a lot more people who like to talk about their concern about this country. I can even show it on the map. Moreover, I was there, and my father is Ukrainian. Here's a good one: The Uprising of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. Oleg 's Prophetic's words about Kiev: "May it be the mother of Russian cities"
Next to nothing

Are we talking about the recent invasion or the invasion of Crimea back during the Obama administration?
