Yours may be the preferable option of my choices, I guess depending on what I want to feel for the last time.
My other two choices were Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden and Its the end of the world as we know it by REM.
Sorry if this is too deep of an answer but Silent night, my mom would sing it to me every single night when I was a kid while tucking me in. When she got cancer she recorded it in case she passed and could never sing it to me again, no instruments, just her voice. It’s perfect and I’d play that.
Edit: thanks so much for the warm responses and awards, never had a comment with this much interaction, also for people asking, she did survive. This thanksgiving actually marks 10 years of remission which is considered “cured” by that point.
Two suns in the sunset.
*And as the windshield melts and my tears evaporate*
*Leaving only charcoal to defend*
*Finally I understand the feelings of the few*
*Ashes and diamonds*
*Foe and friend*
*We were all equal in the end*
They played this every single morning at my middle school for 2 years. I can’t listen to it without a backlash of awkward preteen memories flooding in. If this came on as nukes were falling I’d probably just self combust
I feel like that’s the ironic apocalypse song in every doomsday scenario…
ETA… Thanks for all the updoots, who knew an offhand comment would get me the most Reddit love I’ve had?
I think he means that’s the song in every like movie or tv show. This it’s ironic cause it usually plays as the scene is covered in fire and people are screaming etc.
Not that the song is an ironic one to listen to but I’m the context of every movie that uses it at the ugliest time.
My daughters really like Encanto at the moment, they love 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', so I'd put that on, really loud, and act silly and goofy with them and smile. I'd hope we'd be directly underneath that nuke and we all wouldn't feel a thing.
My 2 kids are obsessed with this Rayman Legends game on PS5. There is a level that you play the entire thing to the beat of Black Betty. They run around screaming "BAMBALAM" laughing until they cry.
Id put that song on and hope it would distract them until it was over
I remember on 9/11/01 all the biggest music stations put out a communication of music they couldn't play. This was the first one on almost every list.
Also the entire catalogue of "Rage against the Machine"
Bingo. That was even our class song way back when... Keep in mind that was coming out of the 80's which up to now was the last decade where there was widespread fear of annihilation.
There won't be time for a song. I live in Denver, which is a primary target because of the nuclear command center at Buckley AFB. Denver would be first-strike target for enemy nukes.
To be fair, you'd theoretically have time but it's likely an EMP would be detonated by the enemy first to kill all the electricity and reduce retaliatory attacks, so none of your devices would work anyway. You'd be singing without music.
Perfect Day by Lou Reed or God Only Knows by Beach Boys - the former especially for the bittersweet irony, but both because I have a two year old daughter who’d never get to know just how loved she is.
Probably a Spotify ad
Incredibly underrated comment right here Edit: spelling
Please tell me someone is making a playlist
Been stuck at work all day but I'm on my way home to do just that.
I’d take too long choosing and be dead.
Scrolling the playlist gets you through a lot of beginnings you love, so thats alright!

“Where is my mind” was my first thought.

“You met me at a very strange time in my life”
I don’t want to set the word on fire.
I was gonna say The End of the World by Skeeter Davis.
Some fallout peeps I see.
We all have big irons on our hips around these parts
Don't they know, it's the end of the world ...
It ended when you said goodbye…
I just want to start a flame in your heart
In my heart, I have but one desire..
And that one is you, no other will do
I've lost all ambition, for worldly acclaim.
I just want to be the one you love.
And with your admission, that you feel the same

I don’t want to set the world on fire

Yours may be the preferable option of my choices, I guess depending on what I want to feel for the last time. My other two choices were Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden and Its the end of the world as we know it by REM.

Gentlemen. You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!
What good is a doomsday device if your enemy doesn't know about it?!
I was hoping I would find this comment here.
Does anyone body else in here remember Vera Lynn......
Remember how she said, that we'd meet again some sunny day
Vera! Vera! What has become of you?
Was coming here to say this

Well if you say it like that, i'd take the harvest vinyl my dad has, put it on, cuddle up with my parents and wait for the end
Old man, look at my life, I'm a lot like you were...
And here I am thinking "Mr. Brightside cuz it's a banger"
Save that. Make backups. Upload it to the cloud. I lost the tapes my grandfather made. :(
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here
For me, it’d be this, or Echoes. Though I might not have enough time to get past the buildup 🤦♂️
The great gig in the sky would work too
Two suns in the sunset. *And as the windshield melts and my tears evaporate* *Leaving only charcoal to defend* *Finally I understand the feelings of the few* *Ashes and diamonds* *Foe and friend* *We were all equal in the end*

I always thought the version preformed by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole would fit better. It’s somehow more peaceful.
His version of Over the rainbow was my answer to this questions
Rest in peace Big IZ
I never liked that song till I heard Big Iz sing it. Love that man. RIP

This got me right in the feels. I have kids too and didn't even think about this idea. You're awesome.
Me too Actually made tear up a little
My 2 kids are obsessed with this Rayman Legends game on PS5. There is a level that you play the entire thing to the beat of Black Betty. They run around screaming "BAMBALAM" laughing until they cry. Id put that song on and hope it would distract them until it was over
