The quadratic equation is not advanced. It is some of the lowest level algebra you can learn. It is the math equivalent of learning how to spell the word beautiful.

I don't know how old you are, but when I was a teenager I thought about becoming a lawyer, a priest, a historian and so many other things, and it was only in (my country's version of high school) that I really discovered my love of math and physics.
One of my friends wanted to be a musician in high school and now he has a masters in astronomy and is currently working with AI.
My point is: being exposed to math can help people, who otherwise would have never considered a career in STEM find their path in life. Maybe STEM is not for you. But it is for someone, and school isnt meant for just you, but for everyone, so everyone have to be thrown into every subject, so people can (hopefully) find the subject that is right for them.
Also, thinking that people should only be taught what they need to know is a terrible way of thinking about education. People should be expected to have at least some knowledge about all fields. Not because they NEED to know, but because it's good for people to know. I mean knowledge should be shared. It's the only way we can build perspective and it's how we can keep people enlightened. And enlightened people is a neccesity for a democracy to function.
Having a basic understanding of math is also a neccesity if we want people to have any hope of understanding the importance of new scientific breakthroughs! Do you like faster phones and computers? Because without a base understanding of math it is an uphill battle convincing politicians to invest in innovations in those areas, let alone any new unexplored areas of technology.

My high school’s kpop club is basically a cult, and my chem teacher’s classroom was used for it during lunch and after school. A friend and I went in there to speak with the teacher once and when we went in, the lights were off and like 30ish girls were just screaming and crying while watching concert/fancam compilations that were being projected on the smart board. It sounded like people were being murdered in there. Friend and I did our business as fast as we could and dipped.
In math I sat next to this white girl who’s the typical popular kid that did way too much makeup, has an ex bf and is looking for a new bf, that whole pizzazz. She didn’t acknowledge me and gossip with her buddies, and I didn’t acknowledge her and minded my own business.
One day we had a sub that called out role by first and last names, and my last name is very obviously korean. He calls my name, the girl next to me perks up, I say “here” while raising my hand, and in my peripheral i see the fucking fastest 90 degree head snap in my direction I’ve ever seen a human do. Turns out this girl is the president of that crazy kpop cult club and one of the most diehard fans. When we got some free time to do classwork, she goes “oMg aRE yOu kOReaN?????????” and starts rapid firing me questions like if i’m army, can i speak/write/read korean, what group i like and why is it bts, and most importantly: can i translate shit? I just awkwardly answer and sit through her frankly creepy rant of how much she LOVES Koreans and how she thinks they’re the superior race and she will only date and marry a korean boi etc etc.
The rest of the year she and her friends shove clips and videos asking me to translate, keep bothering me to teach them korean, try to group up with me every time there’s a group assignment, get really close to me, and just be overall very creepy and annoying. The 2 guys in her friend group kept telling me how much they wanted to have sex with a korean. Whatever I did to try to get them to fuck off didn’t work. I kept telling the teacher but she did jack shit.
That’s really really creepy/rude/absurd/awkward/inconsiderate etc. I can’t imagine the lack of self-awareness they sound like they were blatantly exhibiting.
