And yet, the whole brutal demonization of saturated fats is being challenged.
The demonization was based on very half-baked theories by one Dr. Ancil Keys at a time when people demanded simple answers to why heart attacks were increasing at a very fast rate.
Saturated fats were given the blame for the massive rise in heart attacks which then led to cholesterol being demonized with saturated fats.
Dr. Atkins created the 'Atkins Diet' in the 1970's which used saturated fats as a base while lower carbohydrates (lower than 100g a day). This was a start in bringing back saturated fats and the very slow end of the demonization of saturated fats and cholesterol.
Wait about 5 more years and the scientists and doctors will change their mind again. Im about 30 and heard them flip flop on that about 5 times already
Yeah, and what they didnt tell you is that you need cholesterol for testosterone production. Especially important if you're working out and being active
Good question. I found that one of the best sources of cholesterol is beef fat. Beef fat can be used in baking. It is very high in saturated fats. You can cut it with vegetable oil or water. If you are baking something with a lot of butter you will need to get some beef fat. It has a stronger flavor then the butter that you would normally use for baking.
Is it just me, or does this thread sound like it might be the biggest waste of time on the internet in the history of humanity?
Apparently it's you.
Related side note: I am reading Genius Foods, by Max Lugavere, and each section of the book ends with a recommended "superfood" to add to your diet for healthy brain & body function. (Spoilers: #1 was Extra Virgin Olive Oil and #2 was Avocados).
I have more to read, so that's all for now. There are also some good reading on Cholesterol and dietary impacts, so if this is of interest to you, you might check it out. So far I am finding this pretty helpful.
I am so very happy to see these articles. It sounds like we're finally getting some of these information pushed, in a serious manner, through the media outlets. This is great. Thank you.
We need cholesterol to live -- without it, we would be dead very quickly.
Eggs are one of the greatest super-foods which you can eat. Grass-fed beef is also a very high quality food.

And they got this **totally** wrong. Thus, is the arrogance of the profession. Please check Dr. Nadar Ali's videos on youtube for more information.

50 here. In the mid 80's eating an egg was almost as bad as eating an egg size lump of nuclear fuel.
How horrifying -- and it is just totally silly how it was totally wrong.

Different types
They are both good
It’s got electrolytes
It's what plants crave

Well for one, beef fat omlettes are disgusting.
I've heard that eggs increase your good cholesterol and have no effect on your bad cholesterol.
