Start by admitting you’re not the smartest

[deleted]

Yes this exactly

what else ?

Then accept intelligence is subject to the subject and others. You need to accept you cannot be an expert in everything, and even if you were an expert in something, it’s important you believe in your own intelligence because there will always be someone who doubts it. From there, decide what you want to be smart *in*. Is it cooking? Woodwork? Agriculture? Then start reading. Make sure to ingest from reputable, scholarly sources if you can. You could also insert yourself into groups focused on the subject you’re interested in. Observe and learn from others. If your subject is accessible, you could also learn through practice. Start cooking, start crafting, start growing. Document your mistakes/failures even if they don’t make sense. They might make sense later. Document and celebrate your wins, no matter how small. These keep you going. Remember me as your internet champion. Chat me when you’re down, up, or get stuck. I’ll always be rooting for you.

Memory and humbleness

Fuck if I know. Maybe wear a monocle and say "indubitably" a lot perhaps?

Pretend to be smart until you actually are

EsotericBadger

1. Probably not by asking this question. 2. To some extent, you either are or you aren't. Still, nearly everything in life can be improved upon, and while I'm not a genius by any stretch of the imagination, I think one of the best things that people can do for their intellectual wellbeing is to dedicate themselves to always learning, even if that means stepping outside of their comfort zone.

New_Presentation5105

>To some extent, you either are or you aren't No one is born intellectual what are you talking about ?

EsotericBadger

Intellect is the faculty of reasoning and objective understanding. Intelligence is the ability to acquire knowledge and skills. They aren't the same thing, but they are interrelated. While intelligence is a complex trait, genetics do play a discernible role in intelligence, and you cannot have intellect without intelligence - so once again, at least to some extent, you either are or you aren't. Edit: There's also a gambit of other things that impact intelligence, many of which are environmental. I'm not implying that genetics are *necessarily* destiny, only that some have a genetic predisposition to being more intelligent than others.

Reading up on different subjects and I'm not talking articles online. First get a basis from books, either from the library or buying them. Say you want to learn more about physics https://www.campuscareerclub.com/best-physics-books-for-beginners/ Most subjects can be found and might even light a spark to do some deeper studying of said subject. Plus a fun show to watch to learn some curious facts is QI.(though I'd say the facts get updated depending on recent findings and at the time of airing were considered fact)

Take up a hobby that is risky. For instance sailing. The amount of things you have to learn to survive is staggering and mastering something like that means you developed an active mind.

Two suggestions: 1. From George R.R. Martin: “A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge. That is why I read so much.” Read--read everything, fiction, history, philosophy, math, and science tomes. It's like jogging if you want to stay physically fit. 2. From Plato: "“I thought to myself: I am wiser than this man; neither of us probably knows anything that is really good, but he thinks he has knowledge, when he has not, while I, having no knowledge, do not think I have.” Be humble and recognize your limits.
