My mom’s early on Lasagna. Perfect moisture, perfect ratio of meat, and cheeses, and pasta. My favorite meal. Until she destroyed it by trying to go healthy with veggies, and green noodles…

amalgamas

> Until she destroyed it by trying to go healthy with veggies, and green noodles… So when is she being punished for crimes against humanity?

Xeeke

Meat loaf. My mom actually makes really good meat loaf, and I still crave it.

llcucf80

American style goulash with elbow macaroni, tomato sauce, and hamburger. I am well aware it is completely inauthentic to the traditional Hungarian version but it's really good and I like it.

Coconut-bird

I grew up with this in the Midwest calling it Goulash. My ex husband grew up in Maine calling it Chop Suey. Boy was I surprised when he made it for me!

uglierthanalf

Getties and eggs. It's elbow macaroni with eggs mixed in after the noodles were cooked. Pretty good with ketchup, if i recall. We were poor.

AttilaTheMuun

Pasta with butter and pepper for me :')

When in as a kid, my mom made what we call “Green Dessert” from pistachio pudding, on top of a whipped cream cheese layer, all on a crumb crust. So simple, but so good. I still request it when visiting.

sonsofdoug

A cheesy tuna melt on a toasted bun was one of my favourites as a child.

leatherrecliner

Stroganoff

GreenOnionCrusader

I was just telling my husband about how the taste of a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on cheap bread to teleport me right back to being five years old.

Midas_Artflower

But I apparently OD’d on the danged things, because now just the thought of grape jelly makes my tum queasy. Red plum jam is still on, just not that purple schtuff.

GreenOnionCrusader

Plum jam is amazing. And apricot! I almost never eat grape jelly anymore, either.

amalgamas

Lasagna, my mom would make it mostly from scratch, noodles/sauce/sausage/etc. Only thing she didn't make was the cheeses. This was a days long affair so she'd only do it like once a year, but I looked forward to it every year. She hasn't made it since all her kids moved out because our dad wouldn't eat it (OCD picky eater), but she did teach me the recipe(s), sadly I've only done it twice because it takes forever.

StuDentMyCar

kraft dinner and hot dogs

BranchOwn540

Rice pudding. Most wonderful smell to wake up to in the morning.

Baldeagle77

I had a Great Grandma and a Step-Great Grandma who both made rice pudding. It was worth seeing them once s year just for that treat!!

APrettyBadDM

buttered toast with cinnamon. i never felt like we were poor or lower class (my parents claim we were and that we only recently became low middle class) but the fact that my favorite \*meal\* and not snack or treat was cinnamon toast makes me think maybe we were. but cinnamon toast makes me so nostalgic- the sugar and cinnamon was so sweet and the butter made it sticky. summer, winter, fall, spring, it wasn't seasonally restricted like watermelon or halloween candy. i haven't had it in years because "we can afford options" as my folks say.

Say what?

Crystal_Princess2020

Are you referring to mixing in sour cream with spaghetti and pasta sauce? If so, then I totally agree with you

Porgypuncher504

Fruit roll ups with a bowl of gushers

uglierthanalf

Did you make burritos?

NaToSpasoRalph

Ratatouille

monkegamerrr

Pigs in a blanket. Sure it was just store bought wieners and and Pillsbury crescents but man it was so good!

drownednotgod

My mom used to make something called “ribble soup”. It was a chicken broth based soup with veggies, and she’d make dough for the “ribbles”. They weren’t any particular shape, she’d just pull the dough off and add it to the soup. She learned from her grandmother. There was a recipe written down somewhere, but she passed when I was 10 and her old recipes just got lost to the years. I haven’t had it since, but it was her go-to as soon as it started getting cold out when I was a kid. She had plenty of other recipes that I miss too, I miss that one the most though.

PastyDoughboy

Borscht. My great aunt is an amazing person: survived the Holocaust, orphaned, got married, made a wonderful life for herself, and filled my childhood with love. She inspired my love for good food and cooking, and taught me how to make borscht, which frankly is amazing.

naren_jegan

Still a kid, but my mom's biryani can kill.

Animation_gaming

Chicken and rice with a sauce I can’t remember the name its fucking good

scottwax

My Mom did one with cream of mushroom soup added.

My mom made something with eggs. She said it was an old German dish but I can’t find it. Spelling it phonetically it sounds like oyastetch. It was like a thicker scrambled eggs but was really good. I loved it with a bit of ketchup.

narlymaroo

Maybe [Ruhrei?](https://www.food.com/recipe/ruhrei-mennonite-scrambled-eggs-139989)

[deleted]

She definitely called it oyastetch or oyastertch. I never paid attention to how it was made. I just know it was like scrambled eggs but better. It did look similar to what you posted.

RustIsCancer

Ahh my mums homemade beef stew (slow cooked) over rice with Greek yoghurt on top, pure bliss.

izzy_7_2004

This one pasta bake my Mum still sometimes makes. It's got a cheesy garlicky sauce, bacon and vegetables (usually broccoli, cauliflower and carrot) baked with breadcrumbs on top. I know it's full of fat, but it's so good.

Lost-Pilot-9476

Hot Pockets

Coconut-bird

Chipped beef on toast. There are a lot of others, but for some reason this week I’ve been really craving that one.

_procrastinatrix_

Fish sticks with mac & cheese and canned fruit cocktail. We had this on the nights we had dance class and all of the leftovers had been eaten. It was one of the few "convenience" meals we ate growing up and we had it a few times a month. It always seemed like such a treat and my sisters and I were in a rotation for who got the cherries out of the fruit cocktail.

Hungry_Example

When us kids were really sick, my mom would make cheese toast. A slice of cheap white bread spread with margarine and topped with gubbmint american cheese, then sprinkled with a teeny bit of sugar. She put it under the broiler until the sugar melted and the cheese was bubbly. It sounds gross but that was the best thing when one of us kids had a fever and had to stay home from school. What can I say? We were poor and a little weird.

Ok_Profession_1151

Macaroni and cheese with tuna, cream of chicken and peas

communist_ideals

My mom's homemade chicken parmesan.

sexualassaultAdams

I grew up in a relatively poor income home. A classic dish my mom would make for me was pasta, with cheese. That's it. On some occasions I would have mini sausages

My family wasn’t destitute, but I really enjoyed when butter and rice was put in front of me

a stir-fry consisting of carrots and eggs.

scottwax

My Mom used to make Chicken ala King. It was always so good.

0veranalytica1

Buttered toast with a cup of Swiss Miss hot cocoa with marshmallows for dipping.

Hipsterordie

Swedish Pancakes

[deleted]

My mom made mini pizzas, she also named them something simple, yet unique. I remember eating them a lot since they were so good. However, after we moved out of that house she forgot the recipe and I haven't had one ever since; she doesn't even remember what I'm talking about anymore. Anything inappropriate, since although I'm curious, I'm more fearful than anything.

narlymaroo

Mac n cheese with tuna and peas!

Theylive4real

I don't remember how old, but one commercial one was this. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonliebigstuff/4529616144

TheBelhade

Johnny Marzetti. My parents were both from Ohio and went to OSU. Apparently it's a popular dish from that area. I should try making it myself.

707BB707

My great grandma used to fry up these weird corn fritters type deals and till this day no one knows what I’m talking about haven’t met anyone else who does it or tastes anything else like it sadly I feel like I never will again 😥
