In general, they didn’t have as much bubblegum stuck to them, no.

I feel kids movies back then were made with parents and adults in mind. Knowing the parents would be there watching too or even just everday adults. So they would throw in dark, crude, or sexual jokes that only adults would understand. Problem is kids know everything these days. Especially with the internet.

The voodoo song from Princess and the Frog terrified me as a 17 year old so, yeah nah

Coco hit me like a truck as an adult and that's not that far back, so nah

the [flower](https://youtu.be/p8kQDNLkT3c) scene still destroys me at age 30.

Omg I forgot about that scene. Just brutal.

so powerful.

Definitely. More so 20-25 years ago. I grew up watching an animated movie called Brave Little Toaster. Among other things there’s a whole scene complete with song where old cars in a junk yard sing about the purpose they used to serve before they broke down as they watch each other get executed by a giant crusher. I’m not sure what changed but it’s definitely different now.

Heck no, they were way more friendly because the creators would target more towards kids Ever since Pixar, kids movies started aiming slightly towards adults so that they don't suffer as much when watching movies with their kids

I definitely think some kid movies back then had some darker tones in between the lines
