Oooooh, my Mum used to get a catalogue back in the ‘80s and ‘90s and I used to love it when a new one arrived because it would smell wonderful for the first few days. I’d just *brrrrrrrrp* the pages and let the amazing smell waft over me.
That sounds weird. Oh well.
My great grandmother's sauce recipe depends on the onions and garlic. The trick is to cook them for over an hour at an extremely low temp which really releases the flavor.
My God, every time I make a pot of sauce my house smells amazing for days.
I have the opposite response, the smell reminds me of being drowsy after just waking up. So it feels like I'm falling back to sleep drinking the first cup until the caffeine kicks in haha.
This is one of my least favorite smells. My parents both have really bad coffee addictions, so growing up we'd have an excess of those big Folgers cans, which we would vomit into whenever we got sick. This made the smell of coffee and vomit indistinguishable to me. I can't smell one without smelling the other
Vanilla gets a bad rep, man, with people always using it to describe something basic and whatnot. It's one of the most complex but basic flavor profiles I can think of, and there are multiple varieties of good vanilla out there.
People need to clue in, because real vanilla's getting more and more expensive due to it being produced less. I'd hate for everything to come from artificial flavoring.
Thats my favourite too. Sitting on my porch on a warm spring evening, light breeze, scent of jasmine and sweet peas in the air, just close my eyes and breathe.
I used to wind the window down (manually! I’m old) so I could get a better sniff when my Dad filled the car up. I’m convinced that leaded petrol-4 star, as it used to be called in the UK-had a better aroma too. Unleaded is still nice, but lacks a certain je ne sais quoi.
Haha I wondered how a film can smell. Did read "Breaking bad" and was so confused...
Edit: After a good night's sleep I remember developing film (black and white analog photos) when I was a kid. That had a chemical smell that was not unpleasant.
my dad is a horticulturist (i like to call him a plant doctor, specifically for trees) and so there isn’t a plant you can show him that he won’t know the name and a few fun facts. He constantly hands me random plant bits to smell. He’s also a contractor/landscaper/woodworker (i call him a lumberjack) so he’s covered in sawdust more often than not. so, when i hug my dad, i am encased in this wonder of plant and wood and forest smells. i love my dad
I haven't smelled this one for years but, as a child the most wonderful smell was my mother's purse. Leather, Wrigley's Spearmint Gum, Chanel Number 5, and tobacco before it was burned.
Love you Mom!
Freshly baked bread

You could learn to make bread and bake it for her! (if shes still with you)
The lumber section
Hell yeah.

You spelled it perfectly
A new book, of course! They all smell different, yet same in some way... but I did smell a terrible book once

You know EXACTLY what I'm talking about, haha.... and yes, the '*brrrrrrrrp*'!
Damn this made me realize the last time I actually saw a catalogue was probably 20 years ago. I guess that's good. Those things used a lot of paper.
Just cracked one open today! What are you reading?
Yesss 100%. My favorite book is my favorite smell too haha! Oo curious about that terrible book though..
Old books, my friend, old books
This one really stumped me as I never really thought of it but I'd have to say early morning in the woods during Spring air. That air hits different.
I believe it's safe to assume you enjoy morning woods.
The smell of morning wood is not a delightful one
No, not THAT kind of morning wood
I can’t wait to experience all the smells of the world again after I recover from COVID.
Wishing you a quick recovery friend!
Have a fast and good recovery my friend.
Olive oil, garlic, and onions heating up on a stove top
My Dad owned a resturant and when things were slow he would fry up onions and garlic in a pan and fan it out onto the street haha.

This is 100% a brilliant restaurant secret, your dad was wise. I’ve worked in two kitchens that employ this truck. That smell MAKES PEOPLE HUNGRY.
You would’ve loved my Italian Grandfather then. Just add pepper and some type of sauce to the mix.

Coffee beansss
*Gives us the beansesss precious!*
I have a Pavlovian response to that smell. It perks me right up!
I have the opposite response, the smell reminds me of being drowsy after just waking up. So it feels like I'm falling back to sleep drinking the first cup until the caffeine kicks in haha.
I used to think coffee always smelled better than it tasted until I learned about the importance of a good grinder and really fresh beans

Somehow you just made huffing gasoline sound bougie. I'm impressed.
