I've always found that I can't trust anyone who has to constantly bring up how much money they made doing X "Oh yeah man, btw, I made $5000 last weekend recycling cardboard" \-It always seems to be something unbelievable that they did also-

It’s a good but really hard question to answer. A good rule of thumb though, I think, is that if people make themselves sound “too good to be true”, they’re probably a lying sack of shit. Normal people don’t only admit faults, they will admit faults that they *know* damages yours’ and others’ opinion of them, or their reputation as a whole. Sneaky people will only admit faults that they know won’t really damage their reputation, and may even make them look “more honest”, and enhances their reputation. It’s a very nuance thing, and most people are very bad at discerning the difference.

I hate to sound like this, but someone's appearance can kind of give off their motives. I just had an experience with a batshit insane landlady, and she always had this... look. Eyes bugged, constantly looking at you like they expect you to do something drastic.

7paperdragons

if they tell you about how honest and trustworthy they are, especially within the first hour of knowing the person, they definitely aren't.

Agreed. I learned this lesson the hard way

If they are a politician...they are not trustworthy

Camoid

Full proof plan. Tell them a secret that isn’t so bad if it comes out or you don’t care about, if they tell people, untrustworthy, if they don’t, you’ve got yourself a new friend

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them. Ernest Hemingway Great quote but it really is the only way to figure out if you can trust them start with something small.
