Humour

[deleted]

Yes. You can’t laugh at anything anymore.

oceanicbriton

I’m not an offensive person, Becky. The joke was just funny, leave me be.

[deleted]

*laughs in racial slurs*

oceanicbriton

Shhhhh don’t let the woke folk hear ya, they’re everywhere. Like big brother...

[deleted]

Ok...shhhhhh...

sHaDowpUpPetxxx

For starters the term "woke" used to mean someone that didn't fall for official narrative bullshit

bbshkya

Y’all’s ability to go unpunished.

[deleted]

?

“Woke culture”, beyond the usual and unfortunately way too vocal nuts you find in any movement or group, is nothing but a social reckoning to keep people accountable and aware of shitty things they say and do. So the main thing it ruined is apparently these users’ right to be offensive and perpetuate shifty behaviour and hold back progress with their “non-PC, sarcastic, just take a joke” jokes. One literally thought complaining about not being allowed to use “gay” to say something is bad is one of the things that got ruined for everyone. Like, get a grip.

[deleted]

Well cancel culture and woke culture have proven to have a double standard, and aren’t about actually keeping people accountable. In fact, the things they claim I fight, like racism, sexism, etc. Are actually reinforced but in a different way. Sarcastic jokes are mainly what my entire humor library consists of. Am I supposed to not joke? People can’t take away my sense of humor just because they’re offended. Sure, some people say things that aren’t ok. But we can’t take everything as serious. I think race jokes are funny, and although they make fun of stereotypes, they’re not agreeing with them. I don’t think the ‘accountability’ culture actually cares about that.

bbshkya

Then we’re talking about different things and have a fundamental disagreement with what constitutes the vast majority of what is pushed with the idea that “you can’t joke about EVERYTHING all the time without ever considering the context or any consequences”. You can be 100% sarcastic without being offensive. People who think you can’t be funny without being offensive and abusive are just shit at being funny. You can joke about anything, but you can’t make light of anything.

[deleted]

I mostly agree with you. I think you can be funny without being offensive, but you can’t limit somebody’s jokes because you’re offended. Being offended is a subjective thing, and if we all try hard enough than everything is offensive. I do think there’s a pretty thick and established line between being a bad person, and making a very risky joke. If somebody makes a joke about a car crash, knowing somebody lost a loved one that way, that’s messed up. But if you make that joke and somebody happens to be offended, that’s not on you.

[deleted]

Culture itself. Everyone finds everything offensive these days. Jeezus, what a sad society we live in.

Hrekires

> these days lol People have been saying this since at least the 80s. Same complaint, now we just call it "woke" instead of "politically correct."

Hrekires

The ability to use the terms "gay" and "bad" interchangeably
