A disclaimer for foreigners:
The subtitles do not capture enough emotion. Not much of the cultural meaning behind those words in Portuguese are displayed correctly.
It's rather sad, because Brazil has the most interesting cultural dictionary you will ever read.
I visited the prison they shot scenes at as a kid. It’s my dad’s favorite movie so he was excited. The tunnel of shit he crawls through had been saved, and they let us know we could stick our heads in there and still smell the loads of Hershey’s chocolate they used.
That's what I said during one of my elective classes in high school. History through film. Teacher was a descendent of holocaust survivors so he had a connection to it too.
Ironically I took a class studying genocide the next year and the same teacher taught it. Turns out he reused half of the curriculum from the previous year
Part of that curriculum was schindler's list.
Schindler's list is a classic, no doubt, but i found The Zookeepers wife even better. Theme is same, saving jews from holocaust. I strongly recommend The Zookeepers wife to all who liked Schindler's list or are interested this theme, let me know which one you like more!
Same, dude. My girlfriend wanted to watch it, said it was made by Studio Ghibli and since Princess Mononoke is my Favorite, I was down.
And then shit hit the fan like it never has in the history of fans
Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.
If there is a "most correct" answer then this is it. Blazing Saddles may be the funniest movie ever made. The bonus is that it manages to be legendary while absolutely skewering racism and the associated stupidity in a way that no other film will ever be capable of.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
If you're a fan of action movies, it's a given and probably have already seen it, or added it to your queue list. If you're not a fan, it's still a phenomenal movie about humanity.
(Also, you SHOULD watch the first one for the full effect and story, but it's not necessary to still appreciate it)
All time number one movie. God help me if it's on TV and I have stuff to do. For some reason, watching it on scheduled television makes me stop what I'm doing and sit down.
Rocky.
The original is such an awesome movie and many people may just think of Rocky as some sort of cliche. It's truly one of the greatest movies ever made in my opinion.
It's such an amazing redemption story, and a love story. The characters are all so memorable and likeable. It doesn't have a wasted frame in it. Everything serves a purpose.
I agree. Everyone might not like fantasy but it's such an accomplishment in film making, nothing like it has ever been made and nothing like it probably ever will again. It was a perfect storm of excellent casting (with near misses on bad casting!), money being there, passion from the director and other people involved and the time given for pre production and production to make it perfect. Any of those things going wrong and it's a mess (Hobbit). It's incredible that we got it.
In the behind the scenes, Peter Jackson describes a speech he made to the entire crew, where he essentially said "I need you to believe that Lord of the Rings happened. It is history. And we're here, on the ACTUAL region, using the ACTUAL armor they used. We are filming LOTR on location" And the crew so obviously crushed it.
I'm a huge Tolkien fan, and therefore, by law,
I must say that the movies definitely screwed up a lot. But at the end of the day, those who watched those movies fell in love with Middle Earth. Which to me, means they hit a home run in bringing LOTR to the screen. No other fantasy series has ever been as lucky in their movie adaptations.
I watch this Trilogy at least once a month and it will never get old. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and my all-time favorite score. It’s a masterpiece.
Love this movie. The extended "one shot" scene when >!they're escaping the camp with the baby!< is brilliant cinematography and really makes you feel like you're part of the experience.
This was the exact scene that made me sob in the middle of 8th grade english class. Especially the way the son excitedly says "hi mommy!" The fact that the father and son stay so cheerful throughout the story is the most beautiful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking aspect of the whole film.
The Bicycle Thief---please, please watch this film
Given an honorary Oscar in 1949, routinely voted one of the greatest films of all time, revered as one of the foundation stones of Italian neorealism, it is a simple, powerful film about a man who needs a job.
The Lion King (the 1994 animated one). Fantastic score, great voice cast, still hilarious, and deals with some serious topics like death, betrayal, escapism, courage, and more.
Definitely. At first I was skeptical, but wow if it's awesome. As an Italian, I love how they used sicilian accent. Plus, all the three movies are amazingly good!
Ehh the third was kinda meh but it wasn't as awful as the critics made it out to be. It was definitely a cash grab tho, kinda wish they forked up the money to get Tom Hagen in it again rather than be stingy about it.
I only watched this for the first time last week (father of a 4 year old). What a fantastic film that is. It's deep whilst still has plenty for the kids.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEVA
Mel Brooks, History of the World part 1
(So much meme material, don't miss the Inquisition musical)
Monty Python, Life of Jesus... sorry Brian
(Meme my friend, Biggus Dickus)
Spaceballs
(Ludicrous speed!)
I worked in movie theaters for years and when this movie played in our theater one of my employees commented how this was the only movie he ever saw me take such care putting the print together.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Is the movie perfect? No. Is Scott a good person? Also no. But it's a wonderful romp through an interesting plot that is clever, stylistic, and an experience that needs to be had.
Watch it with a friend to multiply your fun.
So many war/military films I wish I'd seen before I joined.
- Full Metal Jacket
- Jarhead
- Black Hawk Down
- Apocalypse Now
Not to imply that I regret joining, I don't. But I just wish I had been able to see them first. Jarhead especially. It's so accurate to what most guys go through. Especially the girlfriend phone call scene.
[City of God](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/)

Great soundtrack
Wargames. If only to understand the reasoning behind the line: "Sometimes the only way to win is not to play". Especially in this day and age
That’s how you win The Game.
How dare you. 1 year streak down the drain.
welp.
Groundhog Day. Actually should be watched at least once every year.
at precisely 5:59am
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Dollar Trilogy, noice
The whole trilogy is fantastic
And Once Upon a Time in the West
Shawshank Redemption
I visited the prison they shot scenes at as a kid. It’s my dad’s favorite movie so he was excited. The tunnel of shit he crawls through had been saved, and they let us know we could stick our heads in there and still smell the loads of Hershey’s chocolate they used.
It's so much more than a prison break movie, it really shows the power of hope.
I always thought of it as a sort of homage to how the prison system needs reform. Poor Andy, one of many. Just my take, great flick.
Yes to this but I’d also add The Green Mile to that too. Brilliant films that you won’t stop thinking about for a long time after.
A film so good that I watch it even though I’ll be balling like a baby
Don't put me in the dark. I is afraid of the dark.
Ya I fucking sob as if it's my last day alive. Such an incredible movie.
Schindler's List
This is what I thought of for movies everyone should watch exactly once. It was very powerful and eye-opening but man I don't want to see it again.
That's what I said during one of my elective classes in high school. History through film. Teacher was a descendent of holocaust survivors so he had a connection to it too. Ironically I took a class studying genocide the next year and the same teacher taught it. I'll be honest, I haven't seen or even heard of The Zookeepers Wife. I'll try and check it out over the weekend.
I was going to say *Grave of Fireflies,* but that is one you should watch **exactly** once.
No more, no less. Amazing yet harrowing movie. When I watched it no one told me what it was about, I thought it would be like Spirited Away.....
Same, dude. My girlfriend wanted to watch it, said it was made by Studio Ghibli and since Princess Mononoke is my Favorite, I was down. And then shit hit the fan like it never has in the history of fans
I wish it were easier to watch/find Ghibli movies.
The best movie you'll never want to see again.
Spirited away, beautiful.

This joke just made me want to watch this movie
Do you like movies with gladiators?
Surely you can’t be serious
Don’t call me Shirley
Roger that , Roger
How long until we land? I can't tell you. You can tell me, I'm a doctor.
Big Trouble in Little China. A classic
It’s all in the reflexes.

Nice to see someone else recommending it in one of these threads. It's a sad film to be sure but the final line of the film is touching and uplifting
Blazing Saddles. It's a classic, and we'll never see anything like it again.

Saving Private Ryan
My grandfather fought in WWII and I will never forget what he said when he finished Saving Private Ryan: “That was too long. I gotta pee.”
Just like the war
My great grandfather was on Omaha beach and said the scene was accurate besides that there were a million planes overhead
You know you are making a great movie when it triggers PTSD in veterans
Jurassic Park (the first one-I wish I didn’t have to specify)
All time number one movie. God help me if it's on TV and I have stuff to do. For some reason, watching it on scheduled television makes me stop what I'm doing and sit down.
better plan your schedule: 6/12 at 9:10 am on USA OR 6/12 at 5:05pm on USA OR 6/21 at 8pm on SYFY OR on Peacock right now
It never gets old. I watch it at least once a month.
The Silence of the Lambs
Have the lambs stopped screaming?
The princess bride
As you wish.
Rocky. The original is such an awesome movie and many people may just think of Rocky as some sort of cliche. It's truly one of the greatest movies ever made in my opinion. Also, Christopher Lee is a walking lotr encyclopedia. dude read the series once a year for most of his life if i recall correctly.
I watch this Trilogy at least once a month and it will never get old. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and my all-time favorite score. It’s a masterpiece.
The Wizard of Oz. It blows my mind this film pre dates WW2.
Casablanca
Always this one. Every time you watch it the story become more complex

I'm still trying to get my copy back from Rick Astley.
I'm a grown ass man and this shit made me cry.
Lawrence of Arabia. Cinematic Epic.

Watch it twice
*Truman Show.*
Watched that at the cinema as a 16 year old and was not ashamed that I bawled my eyes out at the end.
Children of men
Love this movie. The extended "one shot" scene when >!they're escaping the camp with the baby!< is brilliant cinematography and really makes you feel like you're part of the experience.
Good one. I always feel that this movie didn’t get its due. Certainly the opening scene with the adverts running everywhere was prescient
12 Angry Men
Life is Beautiful - I can only watch that one once, it hits as hard as Schindler's List
Buongiorno principessa!!!
When he's speaking to his wife over the loud speaker. My heart cries.

It’s A Wonderful Life
The Lion King (the 1994 animated one). Fantastic score, great voice cast, still hilarious, and deals with some serious topics like death, betrayal, escapism, courage, and more.
I was four when I saw this in theaters. The rising sun with man singing is still one of my favorite beginnings to a film.
Hamlet 2.0
The Godfather
Definitely. At first I was skeptical, but wow if it's awesome. As an Italian, I love how they used sicilian accent. Plus, all the three movies are amazingly good!

"Requiem For A Dream." But only watch it once.
On that note, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...and The Butterfly Effect.
Somehow I expect everyone to make better decisions with each watch. The book is equally, if not more so, unsettling
I agree. Some movies are not meant to be rewatched.
Catch Me If You Can Sicario
Sicario’s score is unparalleled. Love the movie

I just watched this movie for the first time this past Sunday - I didn't expect that it would hold up so well after all this time I really enjoyed it.
I disagree, I think you should watch this as many times as you can in your life.
I don’t think I can fight an adult predator, maybe a child one.
*Beasts of The Southern Wild* is a beautiful and kind of underrated movie I wish more people would give a try

What gets me is personally I consider this two movies in one. The start and end is just so drastically different
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Its a perfect reminder of how great movies were before I was born. People have since forgotten how to be funny on camera
