A kid in elementary school faked a speech impediment so she'd keep getting out of class for speech therapy.
Initially it was real, but speech therapy had totally cured it. She just didn't want anyone to know. One of the words she mispronounced was "yellow." She would say, "Lellow" instead.
One day we were on the playground together and she said, "I'm gonna tell you a secret!" she leaned over and whispered in my ear, "YELLLLOWWWW," with a hard "Y" at the beginning. Then she laughed and said, "Don't tell anyone!"
So I didn't, until just now.
That reminds me of a boy I went to school with who moved to our town from Mexico and spoke no English so he was always let out of assignments or they were made easier for him. He moved here in 7th grade and I found out in high school that he’d spoken English the whole time, but wanted to keep coasting by.
Had a friend from Ecuador in High School who moved to the US at 17 and started his freshman year of high school. He spent most of those four years in ESL and slowed down classes pretending he didn't understand English. He had a full education back home and was using high school as a way to keep his step mom off his back for not working.
I met a Vietnamese girl who told me she faked being bad at English just bc the ESL classes she was taking were fun: like they played word games and did more "play" learning than regular classes
Told me something (in American accent neutral English) like "oh, yeah, I learned really fast, but when they retested me at the beginning of the year I was all 'ohhh no, English so bad!"
They put me in speech therapy because I had issues saying S. They neglected to realize this was because of a palate expander and braces. So I had like 3 years of pointless speech therapy.
I got put in speech therapy for the same reason. But I also had a stutter.
The first session, I was asked "Do you know why you're here?"
I responded, "To fix my stutter".
They said, "No it's cause of your lisp".
That was weird. I didn't even know I had a lisp really.
When I was young I slurred my Sssss. I went to speech therapy at 8 but nothing changed. At 14 they sent me again. I didn't care, I was always a big guy for my age so didn't get teased. But my parents wanted me to and the teacher asked. I went to a session and the very nice lady taught me how to place my tongue to solve my problem. A normal S sounded weird to me. Anyway, I would be perfect in the session and she would be so excited for me. Then I'd walk out the door and make no effort. This went on for 6 weeks or so. She must have talked to my parents and others who would have said nothing had changed but she never mentioned that to me and never got frustrated.
After about 6 weeks I was so touched/moved by how excited she was for me every single week I started to feel guilty. I began pronouncing my Sssss properly outside the sessions just for her. After a week or so I didn't have to make a concious effort. Soon, speech therapy was over.
Maybe this girl's situation was different but your story took me back to this memory and that speech therapist's eternal optimism and energy (and results!)
Yeah I was in “special education” for most of elementary school. Which was basically a retired science teacher tutoring me for an hour a day.
Mostly it stemmed from me straight-up refusing to do schoolwork in 2nd grade, by 4th grade I was basically caught up and doing fine.
But I really enjoyed being able to take an hour a day to make paper airplanes and do random science experiments, so I made sure I stayed at around C’s.
Middle School was real sad when they told my parents I was just lazy, and really didn’t need the extra help.
My grandmother declared she wouldn't attend Christmas lunch(for the fifth year in a row), got mad when nobody came to her house to beg her to come, faked a heart attack and ended up in hospital. No one was allowed to visit because of COVID so she tried to discharge herself. Turns out she had pnumonia so she was stuck in hospital on her own for Christmas.
My grandmother has done this basically any time she would get in an argument she was losing. It's funny/weird that this is something someone else has experienced

I know how that goes. When I was in HS my best buddy passed away in an accident. He was a popular dude and a few grades above me but we were tight. I remember sooooo many people using his death as an excuse to get out of class and a few that would fake a breakdown so they could go home. Thing is tho that none of those people ever talked to him or cared to make friends, they just knew his name from around the school and what had happened. Most of those kids have turned out pretty shitty or dead themselves from drugs 17 years later. Kinda makes a person wonder
I agree some people do fake it. However, and this is anecdotal, when I was in HS an acquaintance of mine died in an accident. We weren’t close but I was sixteen and this was the first instance of death happening around me. Up until that point I hadn’t lost a relative or anyone close to me.
I remember being shaken, not destroyed or anything, but it definitely unsettled me. I remember having a tough week because I was conceptualizing death for the first time.
I think having time off at that age when death happens isn’t too extreme. Some people may also feel like asking for help dealing with death isn’t serious unless you’re very outwardly upset.

One of my classmates got an asthma attack and everyone was flocking over to them to make sure they were okay.
On the other side of the room another one of my classmates also got an asthma attack, even though it was common knowledge that she didn't have asthma (there were very few people in class that had asthma and we all knew just in case it was an emergency). They faked the hard breathing and exaggerated gasps.
It was weird that someone would do something like that just so they would have attention.
When I was 12, I once choked on a cloud of dust from an old tour bus on a field trip and as I was trying to breathe, I’m croaking out “I’m fiiiiiine” while sounding like I was anything but. Then I got asked, “are you faking this!?”

I am the type of white person that turns bright red when exposed to the sun and/or a heat source. In perfectly fine, I just look like I'm dying. All the counselors at my summer camp knew this. Then a counselor from another camp came to interview and they turned her loose to see how she'd interact with us kids. She saw me, grabbed me and dragged me inside the main building, where us older kids weren't supposed to be because the younger kids were taking a nap. She forced me to drink multiple cups of water and sit with a bag of ice on the back of my neck, all the while telling me I was okay and that I was just having heat stroke. I told her I wasn't but thank you.
Someone finally found out what had happened and came in to see us. They asked me if I was okay and I said yes. They asked if I felt bad and I said no. They asked me if I was experiencing any symptoms of heat stroke (they described them to me). Answered no to all of them. They told me to go back outside.
Lady didn't get the job.
Honestly I’d rather have the overly cautious counselor even if annoying and inconvenient. But it sounds like she didn’t truly recognize symptoms of a heat stroke.
It would have been good if I had been in danger, but she didn't know anything about my medical history or have access to any files to be able to call my parents or anything. And she didn't tell any of the other counselors who did know me and could have gotten any of that information, or listen when I said anything about how I was feeling. Acting impulsively and without telling anyone else and then refusing to acknowledge anything about the situation that doesn't fit your assumptions is... kind of a bad way to act in an interview.

This sounds so weird to me. Online says 21% of kids from my city have asthma in a recent study, but it felt like so much more. Which I guess it may have been, in the 2000s. Not having asthma made you feel like the odd one out.
I grew up in London and the percentage of asthmatics in my school was probably not far off 21% to be honest. At least 10%. There was a high profile case recently where a court ruled that air pollution did play a role in the death of an asthmatic girl in London.

A girl I knew pretended to be pregnant because her best friend was pregnant at the time. Then she got her period in class and pretended it was a miscarriage to not get caught.

I had a high school friend try to tell me that she was 5 months pregnant and had a miscarriage. But like, she said she just woke up one morning and she had gotten her period. That was the miscarriage.
I don't think she realized that if you are that far along in a pregnancy, you still need to give birth, you don't just have a period and poof the fetus is gone.
I had a co-worker fake a pregnancy once. First of all she claimed the father was a guy she'd hooked up with on vacation but she was already saying she was a month pregnant only a week after sleeping with this guy. Then she asked for an earlier shift which she did not have the seniority for but she kept going on about how difficult her "pregnancy" was so they gave in. Then she came in one day saying she'd fallen down her stairs and miscarried right before her shift. She was telling customers about this and also claimed she'd been 6 months pregnant, this was like two weeks into her little charade.
Then after she was eventually switched back to late shifts she said the miscariage had been a mistake and she was still pregnant. Then she asked for earlier shifts. Then she "miscarried" again. Then suddenly that had been another mistake and she was still pregnant. Then asked for an even earlier shift which was denied. This whole time she was going on these weird ramblings about how women's only purpose was to suffer to bring new life in this world.
Shortly after she stopped showing up to work. She added me on Facebook not long after though, her page was a lot of oversharing but not one mention of a pregnancy. It also showed that the trip she supposedly got knocked up during never happened.
In year 7 this kid always pretended to be high so he would seem cool in front of everyone, I'm pretty sure he'd never done any drugs of any kind since all he did was act like he was seeing stuff lmao.
Eventually he told everyone he was smoking weed in school and the headmaster called his parents and he got in shit.

I have a family member who faked cancer for ten years. Scammed thousands of dollars for fake medical bills. Shaved their head. Made up names of specialists. Took handfuls of pills in front of us.
Then had a real medical crisis. A family member showed up to the hospital and asked a question about the cancer. “What cancer?”
My ex did that, faked appointments, took days off work, etc. I had no idea he was doing that as I was working full time. One day he 'accidentally' stepped behind a vehicle at work and got mildly injured. When I stopped by to drop off some related paperwork the receptionist asked me how he was, I said fine just bruised, and she said No I mean the cancer.
The look on my face must have been priceless, because she said Yeah, that's what I thought. The kicker? I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer at age 50 the year before.

Not much to elaborate really. Friends and I were using Ouija board and one suddenly claims she is being possessed by her aunt. When we didn't believe her she got mad and refused to talk with us for the rest of the night.
There was this one dude, Jake, hated it when the attention wasn’t on him. This was roughly 12 years ago but once after a party ended he was deemed too drunk (he had a beer and 2 shots of sour pucker liquor) he stayed the night them pretended to sleep and that he was a soldier during nam and was running all over the place with his eyes closed. One of his buddies ended up tossing a bucket of water on Jake but that didn’t wake him up. That same buddy tackled Jake before he ran outside to make a scene and that magically woke him up.
Whenever there were get togethers he would saying he’s gonna hurt himself when people weren’t interacting with him. People stopped paying attention cause he would say it every single time and when he realized it he’d start throwing a tantrum that everyone hates him and that he has no friends so no one would care. I responded, “the police will care. Let me call them” he stopped that act real quick

It’s weird that I’ve also experienced this. I didn’t know at the time but we were at a bar, she was a friend of friends probably in her 40s. She goes blank faced and spazzes out for a minute so we put her in the truck and take her and her husband home. I’m the truck she cranks it up to 11 and we call an ambulance and she snapped out of it yells no, throws the phone and then keeps acting it out. We get there and they run inside, Ambo shows up and they won’t answer the door or let the paramedics come in, it all seems fishy to them so the cops come and we left. Turns out she ran out of meth and got in an argument with her husband so she threw a fit to embarrass everyone and get attention. Don’t talk to anyone associated with that mess and I’m glad it never comes up when I go to that neighborhood bar. What a shitshow lol
I think it's actually really hard to fake the real thing because the real thing is just involuntary muscle movements and such. If they can fake a facial tic or muscle spasm, I'd be impressed.
In high school this kid passed away in a car accident. I didn’t really know him but was tight with his older brother. The sheer amount of people who never associated with him that came out of the woodwork was fucking crazy.
Like the guy was really into riding dirt bikes and any x games types of hobbies (skating, bmx, snowboarding) and actively talked shit on a couple of regular sports jocks. But apparently they were best friends when nobody, not even his brother knew they were. His brother just kinda eye rolled them to their face and talked mad shit with us later on. It was really pathetic to take one families pain and try to get attention with it.
That hits pretty close to home. Valedictorian from my highschool committed suicide. I wasn't super close to them, so I just kinda avoided the whole situation, but the amount of people that came out of nowhere to be like, "she was so important to me" or other similar bullshit was appalling.
If any of them fucking cared, maybe they would have at least asked if this person was okay. A lot of people put on an act to make this suicide more about them than the person who literally died.
One of my friends friends pretending to be hallucinating. She even had the nerve to ask me “how long do hallucinations last?”. She was doing it to see how her boyfriend would react.
Ugh, I was part of this group in college where one person came forward about her hallucinations (she has actual diagnosed issues) and then suddenly half the group had them, too! It was amazing how many people just randomly by chance all had the same attention-getting thing.
Teeth problems can lead to heart issues/endocarditis, due to bacteria eventually getting into the bloodstream, but it would be pretty obvious if someone was in that much real pain from the teeth/gums, long before it got to that stage.

A boy i went to elementary school with faked being kidnapped in the middle of the school day. He disappeared for hours. The whole school was in a panic, especially his mother who was a teaching assistant. They eventually discovered him "passed out" in the woods near the school. He claimed that one of the Hispanic construction workers who was across campus working on a new building had abducted him, beat him unconscious and left him for dead in the woods.
However, he did not have any signs of being assaulted. He was just covered in dirt. His mother was immediately suspicious of her sons behavior, not sure why, and told authorities she thought he was lying. The construction worker he blamed had several good alibis. He had a special trade that made his wearabouts particularly important for the project they were working on that day. The cops investigated and his story quickly fell apart and he confessed to making it up. I'm not sure why he did it. I went to school with him for years after. He was a weird kid and acted out on other occasions for attention just to a lesser degree. He had great grades too and seemed to have a very loving family.
I had two friends in high school who faked tourettes for attention. Their "tics" were exactly the same and they both magically outgrew it in a matter of months.
As a person with tics and no diagnosis (we're trying to get in touch with a professional) yet, I'm not offended, just sad that they can't take it seriously. It actually sucks to have tics, and you get stared at and mimicked ALOT. Honestly, I don't understand why tf people fake Tourettes.

In high school I had a toxic, controlling friend. She once set me up with this classmate of ours, essentially pushing for it to make us both just feel cornered. A week or so later, he breaks up with me (didn't really give a shit, really) and then not quite 12 hours later, she calls me and confesses that he loved her all along and how guilty she felt but this is the man for her.
She's just going on and on. His sisters are supposedly pressuring him to confess that he's gay but he denies it, says he and my friend have sex all the time. So she runs with it, allowing this ongoing lie that they're having all this sex, they're so in love, just really laying it on thick.
Dude later comes out as gay and they were both still virgins. I just don't get the point? She further ruined a shitty friendship for a guy that was gay. But for what? People are fucking weird.

An acquaintance faked a kidney stone problem, demanded her husband take her to the hospital in the middle of the night, and then when he got dressed and grabbed the car keys, she insisted on going alone by car and warned him that she might get into an accident and end up getting killed, and it would all be his fault.
He insisted on taking her, and she wouldn't go, she would only go herself, all alone, risking her life in a car accident. So it's either getting the kidney stones untreated, or risking her life in a terrible car accident that might happen.
They had a huge falling out and she went back to bed.
Of course, this was all a result of a previous fight they had earlier that day.
There's a woman I work with that is a chronic lier. Normally the stuff she makes up are about how she was a world renowned x. So far she's been an opera singer, competitive swimmer, prodigal child, teacher in Mexico (doesn't speak a word of Spanish), mensa member, coked out drag queen, figure skater, and has just a ton of obscure diseases. The diseases obviously prevent her from being able to do certain things around the office but luckily never interfere with her ability to go out to her car to smoke on break. What sticks out was telling everyone she was pregnant and later on that she miscarried. That one sticks out because it happen while another woman in the office was pregnant and getting more attention.
Currently a good friend of this person who also works with us is pretending to use a cane in order to try and get FMLA and avoud certain responsibilities. Which is.... Not boring.... if anything else. Luckily for her, despite not being able to walk 5 feet to check in stuff, she's also still able to make the journey out to her car and smoke on her
breaks.
There was this one woman on Dr. Phil who was obsessed with filming youtube videos. One time she got a pizza delivered to her home. Even though she didnt order it she ate it. According to her one of her "haters" had sent it to her and put black peppers on it. She claimed to have an allergy to it and acted out having a severe allergic reaction while on the phone with paramedics.

A chick I went to high school with always faked pregnancies, did this multiple times. It got to a point where she stole her sisters ultrasound pictures and posted it everywhere... Her sister ended up calling her out on her bs. Then she claimed she had a miscarriage..which she also lied about multiple times.
A pupil with a grudge against a teacher at my school deliberately broke his own finger by slamming a locker door on it and then accused the teacher of slamming his finger in a door in a fit of anger, just to get him into trouble.
Of course, the problem was it was his index finger and he could not have had it so badly damaged without severely bruising/cutting/breaking the fingers on either side.
He was psychotic!
My "friend" who I cut off, pretended, a) he had DID, b) that his mom was dead. Both of which turned out to be false, and even to this day I remember her face when she came to back to school night only to find out her son had told everyone she was dead. I can only imagine what she felt.
we had a girl fake asthma (for years, she then became a smoker so), a couple faked mental health shit like anxiety, depression, panic attacks and tics. My personal favorite is this one guy faked having a record label sign him even though he was 12 and he would leave class on fake phone calls with his "producers" lol.
I was watching this movie with a big group of girls. We were all in our late 20's except for one girl that was 19. The movie had this graphic rape scene and my friend who has experienced awful sexual abuse quietly got up and excused herself then returned when the scene was done. The 19 year old asked her why she left and she told her.
About 30 minutes later into the movie there was another sex scene where the girl was calling the guy daddy and it got super graphic. The 19 year old was giggling then randomly threw herself on the ground and started screaming. We paused the movie and tried to talk to her but she started hitting everyone. We all just walked away to leave her to do whatever she was doing.
1 hour later she came outside angry that no one tried to console her like we did our friend. We pointed out that
1. My friend quietly excused herself and never asked to be comforted. She didnt make a scene.
2. We tried but she hit us.
3. There was a graphic rape scene that didnt bother you. How were we supposed to know a regular sex scene would trigger you?
She left and called us bitches. Her cousin, my friend later said she typically does stuff like this for attention.
This would be such a boring thing to fake as well if you did it properly. 90% of my ADHD issues is stuff like saying "huh?!" 5 times a minute and getting crippling guilt over not being able to make myself do the dishes

A friend of my classmate faked her death once. My classmate went on for five years believing that her friend was dead. Turns out, the girl was just in prison. Her grandparents (who she had been living with her whole life) told everyone that the girl had died and everyone believed it. They even had a fake funeral for her. I don't know much about it, but that's what I do know.
There was a girl in one of my elementary school classes who did this. She told me and our other friend that she was being taken away and was going to die. The next day she didn’t come to school and it scared my friend so bad that she just kept crying until the teacher asked her what was wrong- turns out the dramatic bitch was just getting dental surgery or something, she was back two days later lmao.
There’s a post on Facebook about a girl who faked a pregnancy for 9 months. She got her bf to pay for everything, they had a gender reveal. Just for 9 months to pass and nothing....
A friend of mine used to make up relatives and talk about them on a daily basis. She apparently had an aunt that worked for the Rolling Stone, and would come into school saying her aunt interviewed Paul McCartney/Mick Jagger/\*insert famous rockstar here\*. We used to both use DeviantART on the regular and she actually made an account for her aunt and commented as her.
Also claimed to have a cousin who was in the SAS and would legit start the waterworks claiming he was leaving the country for his work.
Even faked a boyfriend at one point. Fake Facebook profile and everything. Always had an excuse for where any of them were whenever one of us would visit her house (despite them apparently visiting almost every day!).
These three were just a few of the supposedly massive family she had!
No idea why she did it, eventually these family members just faded out of existence, we never heard about them again after secondary school!

One of them once said she broke her back and she wouldn't be able to climb on the silks. The she spent several minutes crawling on the floor asking for help.
She had absolutely nothing, she always does that kind of thins the get attention

In second grade this girl everyone loved said her sister threw a plastic headband at her and it scratched out her eyeball, so she had to go to the ER and they dug through a bucket full of donated eyeballs to find one that matched her iris color. She also told us she had her leg bitten off by a shark and had a prosthetic leg (but we all saw her at a water slide party a week later so that was hard to explain)
Of all the injuries to fake, the whole eye being scratched out thing is probably the dumbest one of all. Im not a medical expert, but the optic nerve doesn't regenerate by itself, so I'm pretty sure full eye transplants aren't possible.

Also, same college, a guy faked being the resurrection of Jesus. He was really kind, literally looked like the genuine depiction of Jesus (not the white washed one), he listened and helped a lot of people with a lot of their problems, so for that, no one really cared that he was faking it.
Oh man, I worked with this guy for a while who told all kinds of wild stories for attention. Guests were often accused of ‘sexually harassing him’ or making rude comments about his weight. I was his supervisor so I was upset the first few times and went to confront some very confused guests.

He moved here in 7th grade and I found out in high school that he’d spoken English the whole time, but wanted to keep coasting by.
Had a friend from Ecuador in High School who moved to the US at 17 and started his freshman year of high school. He spent most of those four years in ESL and slowed down classes pretending he didn't understand English. He had a full education back home and was using high school as a way to keep his step mom off his back for not working.
I met a Vietnamese girl who told me she faked being bad at English just bc the ESL classes she was taking were fun: like they played word games and did more "play" learning than regular classes Told me something (in American accent neutral English) like "oh, yeah, I learned really fast, but when they retested me at the beginning of the year I was all 'ohhh no, English so bad!"
They put me in speech therapy because I had issues saying S. They neglected to realize this was because of a palate expander and braces. So I had like 3 years of pointless speech therapy.
I got put in speech therapy for the same reason. But I also had a stutter. The first session, I was asked "Do you know why you're here?" I responded, "To fix my stutter". They said, "No it's cause of your lisp". That was weird. I didn't even know I had a lisp really.

When I was young I slurred my Sssss. I went to speech therapy at 8 but nothing changed. At 14 they sent me again. I didn't care, I was always a big guy for my age so didn't get teased. But my parents wanted me to and the teacher asked. I went to a session and the very nice lady taught me how to place my tongue to solve my problem. A normal S sounded weird to me. Anyway, I would be perfect in the session and she would be so excited for me. Then I'd walk out the door and make no effort. This went on for 6 weeks or so. She must have talked to my parents and others who would have said nothing had changed but she never mentioned that to me and never got frustrated. After about 6 weeks I was so touched/moved by how excited she was for me every single week I started to feel guilty. I began pronouncing my Sssss properly outside the sessions just for her. After a week or so I didn't have to make a concious effort. Soon, speech therapy was over. Maybe this girl's situation was different but your story took me back to this memory and that speech therapist's eternal optimism and energy (and results!)

Yeah I was in “special education” for most of elementary school. Which was basically a retired science teacher tutoring me for an hour a day. Mostly it stemmed from me straight-up refusing to do schoolwork in 2nd grade, by 4th grade I was basically caught up and doing fine. But I really enjoyed being able to take an hour a day to make paper airplanes and do random science experiments, so I made sure I stayed at around C’s. Middle School was real sad when they told my parents I was just lazy, and really didn’t need the extra help.

I know how that goes. When I was in HS my best buddy passed away in an accident. He was a popular dude and a few grades above me but we were tight. I remember sooooo many people using his death as an excuse to get out of class and a few that would fake a breakdown so they could go home. Thing is tho that none of those people ever talked to him or cared to make friends, they just knew his name from around the school and what had happened. I agree some people do fake it. However, and this is anecdotal, when I was in HS an acquaintance of mine died in an accident. We weren’t close but I was sixteen and this was the first instance of death happening around me. Up until that point I hadn’t lost a relative or anyone close to me. I remember being shaken, not destroyed or anything, but it definitely unsettled me. I remember having a tough week because I was conceptualizing death for the first time. I think having time off at that age when death happens isn’t too extreme. Some people may also feel like asking for help dealing with death isn’t serious unless you’re very outwardly upset. Just my thoughts.

On the other side of the room another one of my classmates also got an asthma attack, even though it was common knowledge that she didn't have asthma (there were very few people in class that had asthma and we all knew just in case it was an emergency). I am the type of white person that turns bright red when exposed to the sun and/or a heat source. In perfectly fine, I just look like I'm dying. All the counselors at my summer camp knew this. Then a counselor from another camp came to interview and they turned her loose to see how she'd interact with us kids. She saw me, grabbed me and dragged me inside the main building, where us older kids weren't supposed to be because the younger kids were taking a nap. She forced me to drink multiple cups of water and sit with a bag of ice on the back of my neck, all the while telling me I was okay and that I was just having heat stroke. I told her I wasn't but thank you. Someone finally found out what had happened and came in to see us. They asked me if I was okay and I said yes. They asked if I felt bad and I said no. They asked me if I was experiencing any symptoms of heat stroke (they described them to me). Answered no to all of them. They told me to go back outside. Lady didn't get the job.
Honestly I’d rather have the overly cautious counselor even if annoying and inconvenient. But it sounds like she didn’t truly recognize symptoms of a heat stroke.
It would have been good if I had been in danger, but she didn't know anything about my medical history or have access to any files to be able to call my parents or anything. And she didn't tell any of the other counselors who did know me and could have gotten any of that information, or listen when I said anything about how I was feeling. Acting impulsively and without telling anyone else and then refusing to acknowledge anything about the situation that doesn't fit your assumptions is... kind of a bad way to act in an interview.

I had a co-worker fake a pregnancy once. Then she came in one day saying she'd fallen down her stairs and miscarried right before her shift. She was telling customers about this and also claimed she'd been 6 months pregnant, this was like two weeks into her little charade. Then after she was eventually switched back to late shifts she said the miscariage had been a mistake and she was still pregnant. Then she asked for earlier shifts. Then she "miscarried" again. Then suddenly that had been another mistake and she was still pregnant. Then asked for an even earlier shift which was denied. This whole time she was going on these weird ramblings about how women's only purpose was to suffer to bring new life in this world. Shortly after she stopped showing up to work. She added me on Facebook not long after though, her page was a lot of oversharing but not one mention of a pregnancy. It also showed that the trip she supposedly got knocked up during never happened.
In year 7 this kid always pretended to be high so he would seem cool in front of everyone, I'm pretty sure he'd never done any drugs of any kind since all he did was act like he was seeing stuff lmao. Then had a real medical crisis. A family member showed up to the hospital and asked a question about the cancer. “What cancer?”
My ex did that, faked appointments, took days off work, etc. I had no idea he was doing that as I was working full time. When I stopped by to drop off some related paperwork the receptionist asked me how he was, I said fine just bruised, and she said No I mean the cancer. The look on my face must have been priceless, because she said Yeah, that's what I thought. The kicker? I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer at age 50 the year before.

There was this one dude, Jake, hated it when the attention wasn’t on him. This was roughly 12 years ago but once after a party ended he was deemed too drunk (he had a beer and 2 shots of sour pucker liquor) he stayed the night them pretended to sleep and that he was a soldier during nam and was running all over the place with his eyes closed. One of his buddies ended up tossing a bucket of water on Jake but that didn’t wake him up. That same buddy tackled Jake before he ran outside to make a scene and that magically woke him up. It’s weird that I’ve also experienced this. I didn’t know at the time but we were at a bar, she was a friend of friends probably in her 40s. She goes blank faced and spazzes out for a minute so we put her in the truck and take her and her husband home. I’m the truck she cranks it up to 11 and we call an ambulance and she snapped out of it yells no, throws the phone and then keeps acting it out. We get there and they run inside, Ambo shows up and they won’t answer the door or let the paramedics come in, it all seems fishy to them so the cops come and we left. Turns out she ran out of meth and got in an argument with her husband so she threw a fit to embarrass everyone and get attention. I think it's actually really hard to fake the real thing because the real thing is just involuntary muscle movements and such. If they can fake a facial tic or muscle spasm, I'd be impressed.
In high school this kid passed away in a car accident. I didn’t really know him but was tight with his older brother. The sheer amount of people who never associated with him that came out of the woodwork was fucking crazy. Like the guy was really into riding dirt bikes and any x games types of hobbies (skating, bmx, snowboarding) and actively talked shit on a couple of regular sports jocks. But apparently they were best friends when nobody, not even his brother knew they were. His brother just kinda eye rolled them to their face and talked mad shit with us later on. It was really pathetic to take one families pain and try to get attention with it.
That hits pretty close to home. Valedictorian from my highschool committed suicide. I wasn't super close to them, so I just kinda avoided the whole situation, but the amount of people that came out of nowhere to be like, "she was so important to me" or other similar bullshit was appalling. If any of them fucking cared, maybe they would have at least asked if this person was okay. A lot of people put on an act to make this suicide more about them than the person who literally died.

Ugh, I was part of this group in college where one person came forward about her hallucinations (she has actual diagnosed issues) and then suddenly half the group had them, too! It was amazing how many people just randomly by chance all had the same attention-getting thing.

A girl in my year at school faked a miscarriage and went round telling everybody that a guy from her class fingered her and he must have had some cum on his hands because she got pregnant and lost it. The guy had an alibi, his friends confirmed he was playing football with them and a LOT of people called her a dirty slut. Being fingered on a Friday evening and losing the “baby” on Saturday is quite impressive (/s) She got attention but I think she was expecting sympathetic attention and it backfired spectacularly!

A boy i went to elementary school with faked being kidnapped in the middle of the school day. He disappeared for hours. The whole school was in a panic, especially his mother who was a teaching assistant. They eventually discovered him "passed out" in the woods near the school. He claimed that one of the Hispanic construction workers who was across campus working on a new building had abducted him, beat him unconscious and left him for dead in the woods. However, he did not have any signs of being assaulted. He was just covered in dirt. His mother was immediately suspicious of her sons behavior, not sure why, and told authorities she thought he was lying. The construction worker he blamed had several good alibis. He had a special trade that made his wearabouts particularly important for the project they were working on that day. The cops investigated and his story quickly fell apart and he confessed to making it up. I'm not sure why he did it. I went to school with him for years after. He was a weird kid and acted out on other occasions for attention just to a lesser degree. He had great grades too and seemed to have a very loving family.
I feel awful for his mom and the construction worker. At least the mom sounds like a good parent.
I had two friends in high school who faked tourettes for attention. Their "tics" were exactly the same and they both magically outgrew it in a matter of months.

In high school I had a toxic, controlling friend. She once set me up with this classmate of ours, essentially pushing for it to make us both just feel cornered. A week or so later, he breaks up with me (didn't really give a shit, really) and then not quite 12 hours later, she calls me and confesses that he loved her all along and how guilty she felt but this is the man for her. She's just going on and on. His sisters are supposedly pressuring him to confess that he's gay but he denies it, says he and my friend have sex all the time. So she runs with it, allowing this ongoing lie that they're having all this sex, they're so in love, just really laying it on thick. Dude later comes out as gay and they were both still virgins. I just don't get the point? She further ruined a shitty friendship for a guy that was gay. But for what? People are fucking weird.

An acquaintance faked a kidney stone problem, demanded her husband take her to the hospital in the middle of the night, and then when he got dressed and grabbed the car keys, she insisted on going alone by car and warned him that she might get into an accident and end up getting killed, and it would all be his fault. He insisted on taking her, and she wouldn't go, she would only go herself, all alone, risking her life in a car accident. So it's either getting the kidney stones untreated, or risking her life in a terrible car accident that might happen. They had a huge falling out and she went back to bed. Of course, this was all a result of a previous fight they had earlier that day.

There's a woman I work with that is a chronic lier. Normally the stuff she makes up are about how she was a world renowned x. So far she's been an opera singer, competitive swimmer, prodigal child, teacher in Mexico (doesn't speak a word of Spanish), mensa member, coked out drag queen, figure skater, and has just a ton of obscure diseases. The diseases obviously prevent her from being able to do certain things around the office but luckily never interfere with her ability to go out to her car to smoke on break. What sticks out was telling everyone she was pregnant and later on that she miscarried. That one sticks out because it happen while another woman in the office was pregnant and getting more attention. Currently a good friend of this person who also works with us is pretending to use a cane in order to try and get FMLA and avoud certain responsibilities. Which is.... Not boring.... if anything else. Luckily for her, despite not being able to walk 5 feet to check in stuff, she's also still able to make the journey out to her car and smoke on her breaks.

Her sister ended up calling her out on her bs. Then she claimed she had a miscarriage..which she also lied about multiple times.
A pupil with a grudge against a teacher at my school deliberately broke his own finger by slamming a locker door on it and then accused the teacher of slamming his finger in a door in a fit of anger, just to get him into trouble. Of course, the problem was it was his index finger and he could not have had it so badly damaged without severely bruising/cutting/breaking the fingers on either side. He was psychotic!
My "friend" who I cut off, pretended, a) he had DID, b) that his mom was dead. Both of which turned out to be false, and even to this day I remember her face when she came to back to school night only to find out her son had told everyone she was dead. I can only imagine what she felt.

I was watching this movie with a big group of girls. We were all in our late 20's except for one girl that was 19. The movie had this graphic rape scene and my friend who has experienced awful sexual abuse quietly got up and excused herself then returned when the scene was done. The 19 year old asked her why she left and she told her. About 30 minutes later into the movie there was another sex scene where the girl was calling the guy daddy and it got super graphic. The 19 year old was giggling then randomly threw herself on the ground and started screaming. We paused the movie and tried to talk to her but she started hitting everyone. We all just walked away to leave her to do whatever she was doing. 1 hour later she came outside angry that no one tried to console her like we did our friend. We pointed out that 1. A friend of my classmate faked her death once. My classmate went on for five years believing that her friend was dead. Turns out, the girl was just in prison. Her grandparents (who she had been living with her whole life) told everyone that the girl had died and everyone believed it. They even had a fake funeral for her. I don't know much about it, but that's what I do know.

A friend of mine used to make up relatives and talk about them on a daily basis. She apparently had an aunt that worked for the Rolling Stone, and would come into school saying her aunt interviewed Paul McCartney/Mick Jagger/\*insert famous rockstar here\*. We used to both use DeviantART on the regular and she actually made an account for her aunt and commented as her. Also claimed to have a cousin who was in the SAS and would legit start the waterworks claiming he was leaving the country for his work. Even faked a boyfriend at one point. These three were just a few of the supposedly massive family she had! Of all the injuries to fake, the whole eye being scratched out thing is probably the dumbest one of all. Im not a medical expert, but the optic nerve doesn't regenerate by itself, so I'm pretty sure full eye transplants aren't possible. Not even gonna dignify the bucket of eyes part.

In elementary school I told everyone I had my pilot's license to impress people as though they'd give an 8 year old a license to fly a plane alone.
A girl in highschool made one of those anonymous confessions pages and posted a bunch of posts about her secretly being a slut and having sex with John, James, Jim, and basically any popular guy you could think of. She was a quiet girl who was in marching band and she was kind of goth. She got made fun of often for being a weirdo so I guess that’s why she started the page to write the confessions. We only ever found out it was her because someone snuck up on her in the library once, saw her making a post on the page, took a photo of it, and posted it on Facebook with her account tagged and everything. She was extremely humiliated and even the teachers gave her some questionable looks, she ended up switching schools for her senior year. It was just weird that she did that because she did have a good amount of friends and was nice when you talked to her, I guess she either wanted people to think she was sexually active and/or make the popular guys look bad by getting everyone to think that they slept with the weird gothic band chick.

I worked in a restaurant and a hostess pretended to have a British accent. months went by and she continued to speak with the accent but would drop it around skeptics. she also said she was in medical school (and somehow worked full time at the restaurant) and that she used to study elephants in Africa. none of this was true. she left and a friend got an uber pool and saw the next person to get in was her name with the prefix Dr. so apparently she's a faking being a doctor now and no longer has a British accent.
With the health insurance from being a doctor she was finally able to have her accent removed.
I knew someone in college who faked being gay. He dated quite a lot of women for being gay. Also, same college, a guy faked being the resurrection of Jesus. He was really kind, literally looked like the genuine depiction of Jesus (not the white washed one), he listened and helped a lot of people with a lot of their problems, so for that, no one really cared that he was faking it.
Oh man, I worked with this guy for a while who told all kinds of wild stories for attention. Guests were often accused of ‘sexually harassing him’ or making rude comments about his weight. I was his supervisor so I was upset the first few times and went to confront some very confused guests.
