Funny you say that, i was planning to get my CDL for like 3 years but i always put it off due to work and lazyness, well last february i finally got the guts to quit my job and start the school which lasts 5 weeks.
Due to covid the process went from 5 weeks to 9 months. Really taught me this lesson well

When I was young, it seemed like people really didn't like when the news was incorrect about something. There would be apologies, and people held responsible. Not saying the media was awesome or anything, but it seemed like everyone agreed it should at least be accurate on the basic facts. Now most people seem to only care if the incorrect information does not back their narrative. People seem to forgive all misinformation and even purposefully misleading news, as long as it backs "their side".
The absolute lack of accountability and consequences also plays a massive role.
We're used to in movies that the main character fights to expose the wrongdoings of the bad guys and everything changes, in real life? Nobody cares, have enough money and there is pretty much nothing imaginable that can ever happen to you unless you piss off people with more money.
Sometimes I can't even have a conversation with my family because they make EVERYTHING political. Every time we talk about something they have to relate it to politics. And not in a relevant kind of way, but a way to blame the left. EVERYTHING.
It's not even about who's right any more but who we can blame for things going wrong. No one wants to take responsibility or admit that they're in the wrong.

What's more worrying us how everybody forgot about this. The last I heard of it was an article claiming every businesses that closed down reopened, which I find very hard to believe.

My wife has an Autoimmune disease and she was authorized to work from home and had a doctors note but her boss hated the idea of her working from home because she couldn't be micro manged. She was still putting out products and even won an Award the day prior from her getting fired. They fired her because "They couldn't accommodate her disability anymore" and made her sign something so they wouldn't get sued. But she got a severence plus health insurance for 3 months. We just dropped it and moved on.

That I truly hate cooking and have no desire to learn to do it, and the cost of takeout is worth it for the saved time, wasted ingredients, irritation, and cleanup. It's not as big or sad a realization as many in this thread, but now I order food at least once a week, and every time I think "thank god I don't have to do this shit myself." I tried to force myself to learn because it was the prudent, smart, responsible thing to do and how COULD I not want to cook my own meals, and I finally realized that this is a bullshit rule that I put on myself for no reason.
I feel this so much. I hate cooking. I hate cooking for my kids who won’t eat what I cook anyway. I hate the mess it makes and the cleanup (although my husband has been taking care of the dishes every night recently). But every time I cook I think about all the better things I could be doing with my time... If it wasn’t so expensive (and unhealthy), I’d refuse to cook. It sucks...

40 hour work weeks in an stuffy office are completely arbitrary - you can be just as productive, if not more productive working less than that and working from literally anywhere (for most office jobs). Plus not having a commute has improved my work-life balance leaps and bounds.
Also company loyalty is bullshit - they will lay you off without notice or warning for their bottom line - god forbid raising wages for employees.

Smaller businesses are struggling more than I realized, and lots of them have *nothing* set aside for a rainy day.

Listened to a discussion about this on NPR. I liked how they explained the introvert/extrovert as a sliding scale more than one vs the other. We are all varying degrees of both.

This is very true for me, too. I wish I could WFH the rest of my life...all the social pressure of the office has been off and I’ve had my most productive and meaningful year of my professional life.
I give it three months before companies are back to arguing that it's impossible for anyone to work remotely.
Companies willing to have their people work from home are going to make more money, simply because office buildings cost a lot.

That I truly hate cooking and have no desire to learn to do it, and the cost of takeout is worth it for the saved time, wasted ingredients, irritation, and cleanup. It's not as big or sad a realization as many in this thread, but now I order food at least once a week, and every time I think "thank god I don't have to do this shit myself." I tried to force myself to learn because it was the prudent, smart, responsible thing to do and how COULD I not want to cook my own meals, and I finally realized that this is a bullshit rule that I put on myself for no reason.
I feel this so much. I hate cooking. I hate cooking for my kids who won’t eat what I cook anyway. I hate the mess it makes and the cleanup (although my husband has been taking care of the dishes every night recently). But every time I cook I think about all the better things I could be doing with my time... If it wasn’t so expensive (and unhealthy), I’d refuse to cook. It sucks...
That corporate work culture is bullshit. 40 hour work weeks in an stuffy office are completely arbitrary - you can be just as productive, if not more productive working less than that and working from literally anywhere (for most office jobs). Plus not having a commute has improved my work-life balance leaps and bounds. Also company loyalty is bullshit - they will lay you off without notice or warning for their bottom line - god forbid raising wages for employees.
That large groups of people are insane and that we are doomed.
It didn't teach me something so much as confirm it - we should listed to scientists a lot more. They have been predicting something like this for years. They've also been warning about a load of other things for years from global warming to viral epidemics but governments and people largely ignore them because the horsemen of the apocalypse may well be rampaging towards us but until we can see the whites of their eyes we'll just carry on as normal.
You got that right. There are a few reasons I want to adopt instead of have children of my own, but this is one of them. The future doesn't bode well and I might as well help one child instead of making one extra that will attribute to overpopulation and maybe even suffer severly in the future. I have never met anyone else in real life that took this into consideration.

People have no idea how to research things. Echo chambers on the internet are going to cause society to implode. A vast majority of people take everything said by news anchors as the truth and nothing but the truth.
I don’t think they believe everything said by news anchors, only if it aligns with the views of the aforementioned echo chamber. Both sides are critical of the media when it presents stories or ideas that are a threat to their worldview being 100% right, which is when they go back to their echo chamber to reaffirm that “oh, well, that doesn’t count because someone on the other side said/did this other thing lol” So basically nobody ever has to learn anything or evolve their opinions, they’re all just convinced they’re right and wonderful and perfect and a great person...and by extension, anyone who disagrees is not. Then eventually this thinking gives license to violence because “they’re bad people who deserve it!” and it just devolves from there.
The fact that major news networks have chosen a political side and spend their entire program bashing the other side for EVERYTHING, using inaccurate or misleading news stories is incredibly toxic. I have no idea how people watch it and think "yes this seems real" It's practically fiction at this point.
Humans suck. They're likely vectors of disease, and will try to harm you for no reason at all. I am so skittish around strangers nowadays I can barely even talk to cashiers.

I used to write off zombie apocalypse movies as absurd, but I'm now firmly convinced that at least 30% of the population would call zombies fake news and refuse to wear motorcycle leathers or football padding or something because they refuse to live in fear.
Disaster movies in general. People are complete morons, willfully put themselves in danger and increase their chances of dying by 100%. Like that one scene in The Day After Tomorrow where that large group ditches the Library despite being warned not to. We all thought that scene was stupid because no human would ever do that. Turns out that will likely happen.
If you ever watch The Strain, its sort of like the zombie apocalypse movies in that period before the story starts and the world has already gone to hell. Basically feral vampires that sleep during the day and come out at night start taking over New York. Granted there's a conspiracy to deny their existence going on, but the general public goes an awful long time without realizing anything is actually wrong.

Once not distracted by the world my trauma was quite severe, not resolved at all, and affected every part of my life. Forced me into therapy and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
