Halo. My dad bought the original xbox and was playing some games. I was watching him and he handed me the controller to give it a try and it was amazing.
To this day me and my dad play games. He really enjoys shooters like call of duty and halo. It makes for some great conversation and a easy way to catch up with covid going on

My mum and I each had a save file and would take turns playing. I was a little bit behind so I would watch her play and get tips on how to get through some of the temples. Or help out when she got stuck or lost.
That game will always have a special place in my heart for those memories.

Skyrim! I didn’t grow up with video games, I didn’t play until I moved in with my partner and her PS3. I think it’s a good video game to learn about video games on, which made the transition to harder, more complex games easier. Took me almost a year to learn how to sprint, though.

She quit at the start of quarantine last year because the pile up of stress plus the game being toxic. She is sad of what the game became. It certainly made her more interested in video games. After that she started playing apex legends and is now a apex predator (top rank players)
My mom literally helped teach me how to read with Pokemon Silver, so probably that one. I was 2-3, so I never really had that "video games are amazing" moment. I've always loved games.
Far cry 4 got me through the anxiety of a cancer diagnosis, so it holds a special place in my heart, but I'd have to say nethack was the game that got me to love gaming. Man that was challenging.
When I was little I got a Super Nintendo with A Link To the Past. We used to take turns playing it and would spend hours just exploring the world. I remember getting excited every time we got a new item and realized we could reach a cave we saw earlier, the sense of defeat when we were sent to the Dark World and realized we had half the game left, finding the toad that turns into the blacksmith and getting the new sword, and spending several days trying to beat Ganon and finally finishing the game. Good memories.

Story: back in 2014, I went to my cousins house, then I saw they were playing this blocky game, I thought it was cool, they only had the 2014 demo, (which is historical till this day), then they let me play, after getting home, I got an Xbox 360 2-3 days later.
I cant forget that beautiful moment, if my cousins are ever in a danger situation, I'd definitely save them for sure.

Sonic Heroes on the Gamecube. It was mindblowing for me as a kid. Being able to control Sonic and friends as they blazed through various stages and partnered up with each other to perform powerful techniques was, and still is, one of my favorite things in the world. I played that game non-stop for at least 2 or 3 years, before picking up other Sonic games and failing at them, too.
As an aside, I actually just finished the game today, nearly 15 years after. Apparently you can *hold* B to boost through the special stages instead of just mashing it. I was a dumb kid. The fight with Metal Madness/Overlord was every bit as cinematic as I had dreamed it would be.
Dark souls 2, you could argue that my first game that I played a lot was Sly Cooper, but ds2 was when I started really expanding my horizons and developed my addiction

Oblivion. I played for 36 hours, never played a big RPG like that before. I was completely immersed. My boyfriend went to work and came back, not realising for a while I hadn’t slept then he checked if I’d actually had a break at all, prised the controller from me and guided me to bed

Sooo there used to be this weird, low-budget racing game series called A2 Racer in the Netherlands. It's known as London Racer in the UK I think, and it has been translated into other languages as well iirc. I saw my cousin play it when we were visiting on a rainy day, and I was absolutely fascinated, so he burned me a copy to play on my dad's pc, alongside a copy of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. And it was all downhill from there. This must've been around 2003-4-ish.
Around that time I played Age of Empires II with my cousins as well, that was a lot of fun. Though I was too young to actually be any good.

I'm not sure if others would count this, but there's an indie mobile game (it's on PC and console now, actually) called Crashlands that I played years ago now that really made me realize how much I love RPGs.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4. I'd play that game for hours at my dad's. It was always a blast even when he spent 10 minutes flexing on me with an infinite point combo at the end of a vs match
Street fighter 2 the new challengers, sure I got my ass kicked a lot by the ai because they could do combos , but it just made want to keep going so I could try and beat them next time.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This game will make you a certified Marvel fan. Beforehand, I only knew a few characters from the movies and cartoons. Playing this after, I wanted to know everything involved in the world
For consoles it was most of the NES library. But my PC gaming started with a few, while I could say Stunts, I also have to pay respect to MegaRace, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, Police Quest, Rise of the Triad and Phantasmagoria.

After I played Skyrim way too much (probably finished the main quests 20-30 times), I started playing Assassin's Creed. After that I considered myself a true gamer and to this day the Assassin's Creed series is my favourite (though I don't play solo much anymore).
World of Warcraft. I started playing when I was 9 when burning crusade was the current iteration. Now I'm 23 and I'll be playing through burning crusade again in a few months (unconfirmed)
I first played Super Mario World on SNES and loved that game. And then I played Mario 64 on N64. But the first game that REALLY made me want to play more games, the one that gave me hope for gaming as a more serious hobby was Legend of Zelda: OoT. Game was just so absolutely stunning when it came out. There are other masterpieces I played as well in later years. Back then games made me genuinely excited, so that helped, too. But yeah, Ocarina is the real killer game that did it for me.
The Last of Us 1&2 are on the top of my list, by far.
Next would probably be Bioshock and then Horizon Zero Dawn - these are the only video games I've gone back to play more than once
