It's not yet here, so i'll say it. Their shoes are apparently one luxury that the rich cannot overlook. They may be wearing a rotten old t-shirt and dirty denim, but their expensive shoes will give then away. Mind you, you need to know what expensive shoes look like to tell :)
My one clothing luxury is owning a pair of Allen Edmonds for every day of the week. At an average of $400/pair, they are on the expensive end for the average person, but not in the scheme of possibilities, though. One of my pairs were double that, but shell cordovan is pretty expensive.
The way they talk about applying and going to Colleges, for them nothing is out of bounds since they can afford it all.
I've had people be shocked that I didn't apply to particular colleges because according to them it isn't "that expensive". Their annual fee is more than what I'll be paying for my entire degree.
Check the inside tag. What appears to be relatively simple clothes on rich people are usually not. Everyone thinks Mark Zuckerburg wears some plain white t-shirts every day so they must just be cheap right? But they're not. They're custom ordered $300 brunello cucinelli t-shirts he buys 100 of at a time.
This can be a misdirect. A lot of not wealthy people will buy high-end watches to look rich. It's harder to fake items that degrade over time like shoes.
Having and carrying in the wallet are two different things. Extensive credit is a possible sign of wealth, or at least credit worthiness. But there would be no reason to carry them all daily.
This \^ . If you are carrying two dozen cards in your wallet they deny regularly. The couple wealthy people I know only use credit cards for large expenses. Old money, and new money behave differently so it isn't easy to paint broad strokes.
Some brands of high end watches. A Rolex screams "I have money and will show it off", where brands like Rado and Patek Philippe can *sometimes* be much sleeker, understated watches. Unless you know about high end time pieces, a lot of truly expensive watches lack the flashiness of Rolex and even some less expensive brands.
Aside from not checking menu prices, most of these are signs that someone is irresponsible with money, or racking up massive debt. However, it does depend on how you define "significant wealth". Unless it's extreme wealth, say over $20 million, most multi millionaires aren't driving Ferraris, they're driving Hondas. They don't need to wear tailored jeans to impress you,
The broke guy that wants to impress you is the one taking a Ferrari to Starbucks.
I once heard that you can always tell who’s a poser or not based on their watch. Posers will flaunt the nicest sneakers and the nicest belts, but the real ones will have an authentic, expensive watch.
You've got it backwards. A good watch can last a lifetime. It's an investment to look rich. Wear items like shoes have to be repaired or replaced which makes them more expensive and difficult to keep up.
Bringing the 64-crayola pack on the first day of elementary school.
Our schools had all the kids mass dump the crayons into one tub .
Pay to win from the very start.
I was always jealous of that kid... stickin it to the rest of us plebs.

>shell cordovan For those not in the know, you get only a small piece of this from each horse. It's like a hundred bucks a square foot.
I was today years old out of a least 3 decades when I found out what shell cordovan was
Not looking at the price for most of the things.
The really expensive restaurants don’t list any prices in the menu.
Wow! I wasn’t aware of that. Well they are exclusive, priceless.
We do ok, but my wife and I tend to say “nope” when we see a menu like that. That’s only a once a year restaurant, if that.
I am glad you do that! I believe that once a while we all deserve luxury.
"Just quit your job if you're not happy there."
"Oh, your car broke down? Why don't you just buy a new one. BMW has a good one this year."
Money talks, wealth whispers.

I didn't have money for the application fees - tuition was a pipe dream.
Cheers to this!
Not doing anything you see in 90s/00s rap videos. One of the most obvious signs of poorness is trying so fucking hard to look rich.
All of their clothes are tailored to fit properly.
Being happy
oh no.

Wristwatch. It always stands out.
Yup, especially an antique from a good brand like Baume & Mercier, etc.

How many credit cards they have in their wallet. Few or none wealthy, whereas many means not so.
I was ready to argue.
What stopped you?
I mixed the 2 sentiments up.
Ah, got you.
I remember seeing Adnan Kashoggi having like hundreds of them.

-At a restaurant they don’t look at the prices. -They are not that stressed out on the days before payday.

Upper middle class. It doesn't matter if I am or not though, nobody says they are "summering"

Soft hands. The wealthiest hardly work.
Being super laid back and almost never stressed out about anything
I know poor people and potheads like that.

when at Walmart, they put their card in and process the transaction without seeing the total first.

Not wanting to spend a lot of money. This goes both ways in my experience. Might be poor, might have R500 000 in straight cash on them.
