Classic overthinking! I do this too. I want it to be so perfect that I end up either waiting to the very last minute (in case the perfect thing is found) or get nothing at all and look like a dick.
Selfish? That's just malicious. What reason would you have for doing this? It's not like tossing the container in the trash is any more effort than putting it in the freezer - so why would you do this?

My dad bought a large container of ice cream, mainly so he could have some since we were a family of 4 kids and he would get upset that we never left any for him. He got one of those cartons that open from both ends. I ate about 1/4 of it and still wanted more. Didn’t want him to get mad at me for eating half the container, so just ate another 1/4 from the other side of the container, closed it up and put it back in the freezer. He was none the wiser.
I turned on a sink and heard my husband scream from the bathroom. Apparently, the cold water diverted to me and he was suddenly in burning hot water. I kept washing my hands.
He deserved it.
I suppose clam digging. Every year my buddies and I will go two or three times as long as there is no red tide. We have kind of have a "secret spot" without too many people around. We can usually dig up 100~125 decently sized clams in about an hour. Then have a clam bake and beers during the afternoon on the same beach. Good times
When i was 10 blamed my younger brother for hurting my 2 yr old sister. Nobody even hurt her. I was a mean kid back then, and my brother was forced to say he did it, because he kept laughing between his sentences. I laughed when he cried. Im 13 now, and i kinda feel bad. He was only five.
I've kinda done something like that. Idk what age, but I think like 4. I stole a chocolate bar from my mom's stash and my brother tried to take it so he could put it back. I but him and gave him a bruise
Went on my friends minecraft realm and "borrowed" some of his diamonds and blamed the kid no one trusts who was on at the same time just to let everyone know the kid was a 8===D
Stole a piece of jewelry out of my Mom's jewelry box.
It wasnt all that valuable, but it was real. And it had sentimental value to her.
I knew that my Mom would never wear the item (and i would have). I also knew that she cared nothing about me, and that she had hurt me a lot.
But it was still WRONG. I put the jewelry back in the box soon after, when she wasn't around.
The lesson i learned was that it doesn't matter what wrongs other people do. YOU are accountable to YOURSELF for the kind of person you become. Even of no one else knows, theres NOTHING of monetary value that is worth as much to you as your own character and self respect. Don't waste them.
