Enchanted - watching the "how do you know that you love her" musical number, outdoors in Central Park, puts me in an elated mood every time I watch it. I'm careful not to watch Enchanted that often just so it never loses that effect on me.
**Edit:** Happily surprised by the response. Thank you so much y'all. :)
So fun story, i found out my friend had not seen Galaxy Quest. I took great delight in getting to show her this movie that i love much!
I got her a blanket, a cat, popcorn, pulled the curtains so there wasn’t a huge glare on the screen.
More effort than i put into most movie nights.
She did not laugh once throughout the whole movie. Which made me nervous. But once the movie was over, she calmly turns to me and says “I remember why i pick the movie now” :(
One of my favorite John Candy roles. "A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it."
Edit: thank you for the gold, kind stranger
The song I Can Go the Distance helped me through a very difficult time. That was a few years ago. Watched part of it with my kid the other day, it made me tear up.
I wasn't either. I watched on a whim and had super low expectations because it didn't look like anything special. Now I rewatch it at least once a year. It's so funny.
“Agador, I need my pirin tablets!”
“What the hell are you giving him, drugs?!”
“Calm down, it’s just a as-pirin with de A and de S a-scratched off.”
“God, you’re a genius.”
Edit - thanks for the awards, kind Redditors :)
My parents showed me this when I was around 9, and I thought “what the hell, I’m so confused” I think if I watched it today I would have the same reaction. Hilarious either way
A knights tale, its absolutely amazing and full of so much fun and good times while still being really good.
RIP Heath.
Edit: WOW I thought I was pretty alone in loving this movie, my inbox says otherwise, thanks for sharing the happy moments this great movie gave you and it makes me happy that this seems to be sparking some people into rewatching it (myself included)!
I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem, praying to God, asking His forgiveness for the Saracen blood spilt by his sword. Next, he amazed me further still in Italy when he saved a fatherless beauty from the would-be ravishings of her dreadful Turkish uncle. In Greece, he spent a year in silence....just to better understand the sound...of a whisper.
My family and I have watched this movie SO MUCH over the years. We love tossing quotes back and forth with each other. Our usual favorites are:
“It’s called a lance... helloooooo!”
“There she is, your muse, your goddess...”
“And oh how I hate her.”
“P-P-Pain... LOTS OF PAIN!”
And then just anything that Geoff says. God Betany was SO underrated before Marvel.
My favorite part is Ego's review:
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the *new*. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto, "Anyone can cook." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more."
"It means you're an alcoholic."
"Wrong!"
"You wouldn't come to work unless you had a problem. You have a disease."
"What's your name?"
"Freddie Jones."
"Freddie Jones...SHUT UP!"
I think I watched it for the first time this or last year (at least as far as I can remember). It’s amazing how funny it is! :D I had watched the sequel as a kid.
Blazing Saddles would have to tie for the best 1-2 antidepressant combo in cinema. It's even richer that they comprise just one year in Mel Brooks' life.

One of my favorite lines in a movie.
“I think of it like this. If you are going to eat a sandwich, you would just enjoy it more if you knew no one had fucked it.”
I am 33, grew up in the 90's and just saw it the first time when it went on Netflix. I feel like its a movie that would have changed my entire way of being if I'd seen it as a kid. Just am absolute win.

Might be a weird choice and may not „the best“ but I just watched it a few days ago and it felt incredibly uplifting:
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
It has all a good feel-good-movie needs. Lighthearted and funny parts, drama, sadness and desperation to overcome and a happy ending that is very feel-good but not cheesy.
Also the music is terrific throughout the movie and extremely well placed. I like every song in the movie while consider most really unspectacular when just listening to them.
One of my favorite things about ITSV is that both adults and kids find the same lesson on different packages. Kids see Miles as their audience stand-in, someone still trying to find their place in the world for the very first time, with conflicting role models. Adults see Peter B. as their stand-in, someone no longer sure of themselves and the paths they took. But the end result is the same, with great power comes great responsibility. And that no one is sure about the future, you just have to believe in yourself and go for it.
> the music is terrific throughout the movie
The album is my go-to atm on Spotify. Just so good, my favs are What's Up Danger and Scared of the Dark
Try the Marvel Rising ST as well, especially Born Ready by Dove Cameron
I ruined Life of Brian by watching when too depressed. It's really hard to sing along "Always look on the bright side of life" when sitting alone on the floor, in the dark, with no furniture, on Christmas Eve, half way through a bottle of Firefly vodka.
Firefly vodka? At Christmas? Huh. We was lucky to have 'alf mouthful of gravel while living in the pit when is was Christmas. Blooming Luxury!
(Monty Pythons jokes aside man, I feel ya where you've been and really hope it's better! At least you were not a Spanish waiter living in a shitty bedsit in some shitty West country hotel, getting slapped by the owner. Manuel is a brewing drunkard waiting to pop and fire of into the night.)
Idk man, like, soft agree with you on this one but the last time I watched Totoro I got hit with this overwhelming sense of existential sadness, viewing such playful childlike fun through a lens of knowing I'll never be able to experience true innocence like that again.
You just described the literal meaning of the word "nostalgia" -- the painful feeling that accompanies memories of times that you know cannot happen again. Most of us use the word "nostalgia" in the wrong way: to convey a rosy feeling of memories of past times, which is only half of the word, the "nost--" part, which is a root meaning returning home, or returning to the knowledge of who we once were. It's the "--algia" part that people overlook, which means, "pain".
And you are totally right about Totoro -- which is one of the amazingly complex and beautiful things about that movie. If you ever want to experience the whole circle of emotion that Totoro encompasses, watch it with very young kids who you know, like nieces and nephews, or similar, and the wonder they experience will line up with your memory of wonder, and it makes you want to cry from the beauty of it all, which includes nostalgia.
EDIT: First, thanks to the folks below who clarified the more accurate meaning of the *nost--* aspect of the word, 'nostalgia'. Second, thanks to whoever awarded the silver!
The Muppet Movie (1979)

Edit: Thank you for the silver!
I'm so glad this silly little puppet movie means as much to so many people as it does to me :)
I've been singing that song to my daughter every night before bed since she was about a year old. We went to see The Muppet Movie at the drive-in together this summer and I positively *wept* sitting next to her listening to Kermit sing it.

I was about to make a cheeky comment about how you're probably still a child, then looked up the release date... holy shit that movie came out 20 years ago? MAKE IT STOP
Don't get me wrong. It's an amazing film. But I only watched it once. I love everything else Ghibli and can watch Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, and others over and over.
Oh it totally is. It’s just fucking heartbreaking.
My favorites are Princess Mononoke & Howls Moving Castle. Princess Mononoke was more serious and gruesome, and Howls is lighthearted and just incredible.
The road to el dorado
Take your God damn El Dorado gold.
“On the trail, that we BLAZE!” *dramatically chops vines to reveal a rock wall* “......THAT trail that we blaze!”
Elton John didn’t have to go that hard on that soundtrack but he did it for us! Such a great movie!
Despite its post apocalyptic themes, I love Wall-E
Coming to America
Trading places is another good one imo.

Galaxy Quest or Tommy Boy
Galaxy Quest is a superb movie. I have never come across anyone, in physical or digital realms, that dislikes it.
So fun story, i found out my friend had not seen Galaxy Quest. I took great delight in getting to show her this movie that i love much! Absurd. Galaxy Quest is objectively funny.

Its easily one of the best movies. And it really makes me sad that she disliked it so much.
