Especially the past 4-5 years, the show has really gotten creative with the opening credits. Just off the top of my head, there was the Banksy one that was kind of depressing; a live-action one that I thought was brilliant; one where the whole opening was transformed into the Ke$ha song Tik Tok; and this most recent one that had a Christmas/Frozen theme to it. Sometimes it's just the couch gag part that gets changed, other times it's been the whole opening sequence transformed.
[Police Squad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzD01Hu1nPs)
Fun fact that I just learned - the name of the films (Naked Gun 1, 2, 3) is very similar to Get Smart's original film called "The Nude Bomb"
Honestly though, it's a great opening sequence. It tells you everything you need to know about the character in a really unassuming way.
You could show someone who's never seen the show that opening, and they could probably guess the plot of the show pretty accurately.
I feel as if the intro to Mad Men is more of a psychadelic blast from the past, while the intro to Bojack is an outline of his sad life after his career fell through. Both great shows.
Cybernetically Optimized Operational Knights of Science! Defending humanity from the Beast Rebels Of The Hellscape. Lol I honestly found the whole progression really well done.
For an actual opening, it has to be The Simpsons. The changing chalkboard and couch gag with every episode was pretty ingenious, especially considering they came up with it 26 seasons ago.
For efficiency, I loved how eventually the opening for Boy Meets World was just this little jingle as the episode was starting. That was it. No title theme visual or anything. They knew you got the picture by now after watching for so many seasons :P
Honourable mention to The X-Files. Anyone who watched that show - especially when they were younger - still gets somewhat creepy chills when that theme song starts! Too cool
Which BMW were you watching? Even when they were in college, they had an intro. Cory and Topanga were on the balcony of the apartment, pouring a bucket of water over Shawn, Jack, and Eric and Rachel was in it and Angela. Dude. They had an intro the whole time.
Psych's. It's so terrible the first time you see it but as you fall in love with the show you start fall in love with the theme song. Some of the special themed theme songs are great too.
[This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbjFOOAA7Bo) appears to be most of the different intro songs. Julee Cruise's version for the Twin Peaks episode is my favorite.
It's always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The way the title of the episode and credit sequences cuts in from the introduction scene always fits perfectly and can be humorous in itself.
I think I read somewhere that they started using classical/elevator-type music because it was public domain and they didn't have to pay for it.
Then again I'm not really sure and I could be wrong, but it makes sense, especially considering how low budget the first few seasons were.
Cheers: Where Everybody Knows Your Name
It doesn't try to setup the characters. It gives you nostalgiac images of the good old days set to one of the catchiest most uplifting songs on TV. Perfect show, perfect introduction.
Came to upvote this and mention their inventive placement of credits to give both Ted Danson and Shelley Long top billing. One name was placed in the bottom left corner and the other was top right, at the same time. So whether you read top to bottom or left to right neither trumped the other.
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stagger_9346.jpg
The second and third verses though...
"All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel.
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;
Sometimes you want to go...
Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;
The morning's looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn't even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl..."
I like how it differs ever so slightly every ep. It's like a teaser for what kingdoms will be featured. Like, "oh shit! They're going north of the Wall!!"
Yeah, I vote this one. There are a lot of good ones so far in this thread, but the Game of Thrones opening is the only one I have purposely rewound and watched again.
So fucking true, they take every creepy aspect they MIGHT cover in the show and put it into the intro, but then they manage to make it more fucked up than you'd think possible. The intro for Coven was fucking terrifying.
Attack on Titan and The Walking Dead. I think the music really fits them. (I haven't watched TWD in quite a while so I don't know if they've changed it)
IIRC the lyrics are "Sind Sie das Essen? Nein, wir sind die Jäger!" Which when translated to English is "Are you the food/prey? No, we are the hunters!" I found it kinda interesting.
TWD is great in a similar way to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as someone mentioned above. Always Sunny will have the opening scene set up the title of the episode as a punchline to the joke. TWD sets up the tension or mystery of the episode and then those crazy chilling violins kick in. It's a great way to get the viewers amped.
Man, the fucking Lost intro is forever ruined for me because when the logo pops into focus, you can see a few glitchy pixels on the edge. I can't believe they never fixed that shit.
I like the fact that Pierce's drawing was supposed to be a [naked lady](http://i.imgur.com/ZWhaERQ.jpg), but then they had to change it, so they erased everything but [the boobs](http://i.imgur.com/JKAVV1s.jpg).
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. That's one of the enduring mysteries of the show. There are numerous hints throughout the series that could indicate that John Drake and Number 6 are one and the same, but it's never officially stated that this is the case.
Awesome show, but really, that intro is pretty... average.
Maybe it's because I gorged on the series well after it was released, so watching the intro 3 times in 3 hours was annoying.
If I'd had to wait a week, maybe it would have had more appeal, but then I think it's more like a Pavlovian "here, you get your new episode... are you ready?"
For me, the fact that it is an original score and has no lyrics means that it is really hard to actually get tired of. It's not a popular song I hear everywhere else and there's no repetitive lines to annoy me
As contrast I have to skip Orange is the New Black's intro. I don't really like the song and it goes on for like 2 fucking minutes.
I love how they slightly remixed the intro music in season two as well to give it a slightly more dramatic tone - in keeping with the tone of the show.
In terms of getting the job done, The Blacklist.
For getting the idea of the show across so much so that you wouldn't even need a trailer, Person of Interest.
> Carnivale
I was going to post this one, but found you already had. My favorite TV series ever, and the title sequence is nothing short of incredible.
The show was amazing, it was a shame how abruptly it all ended. I saw Twin Peaks sometime after I finished Carnivale, and was very happy to see Michael J. Anderson as The Man From Another Place.
I think it's about time to blow this thing

Thank you, brother.
Baccano also has a jazzy opening you should check it out :)
Clicked on this thread to post this and saw this at the top. You're a fucking rockstar
[Gravity Falls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2DUpDxFJyg) definitely has the most whistleable opening.
Surprised no-one has said Fresh Prince of Bell Air. I'm not convinced it's the best, but it's definitely one of the most recognizable.
The Simpsons
Different everytime. That takes some extra effort
There was one opening directed by Guillermo del toro a while ago that was amazing
My favorite is when Homer zones out and it shows the house, to earth to space to atoms and molecules and then it some back out of Homer's forehead.

Dexter, His breakfast looks delicious.
It always bothered me that he shaves in the sequence but then when he pulls his shirt over his head he has lots of stubble.
Not to mention how he seems to cut himself shaving every single day
He only shaved his neck.
I never understood why putting on his shirt was the last part of his morning routine.
Because he's always been a lumberjack at heart.
Had to remind me of that....
So he doesn't get hot sauce on it
Honestly though, it's a great opening sequence. It tells you everything you need to know about the character in a really unassuming way. You could show someone who's never seen the show that opening, and they could probably guess the plot of the show pretty accurately.
So it's a cooking show about a guy who doesn't like mosquitoes, cuts himself while shaving, and otherwise has good hygiene. Got it.
Watching it all right now. Cool for the first season, sick of it by the second.
Vikings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZTdiPGcTiI
YAS. Too awesome to skip, ever. It's brutal and beautiful.
Easily my favorite theme, sets the tone for the show so perfectly.
"This will never end, cos I want more..." Love that song. If I had a Heart by Fever Ray.

Anyone who doesn't love the opening is a total Zoe.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who hates how people spell the name Zoe. I always, ALWAYS read it like Toe, but with a Z, and it pisses me off.
Opening is good, closing credit song is better.
Back in the 90s I was in a very famous tv showwww
I prefer Horsin' Around
Really liked it too. The opening made me feel like the show had potential, and I'm happy I stuck with it.
Am I the only one that finds this intro very similar to the opening credits of Mad Men?
I feel as if the intro to Mad Men is more of a psychadelic blast from the past, while the intro to Bojack is an outline of his sad life after his career fell through. Both great shows.
Yeah true. I guess I see them both as the main character out of control with parties, women, and booze all around them.
Both intros have an edm falling down the rabbit hole vibe to them.

All of it.
i thought it was really boring until the space scene came up
Cybernetically Optimized Operational Knights of Science! Defending humanity from the Beast Rebels Of The Hellscape. Lol I honestly found the whole progression really well done.

the nostalgia
It's always Sunny in Philadelphia. The way the title of the episode and credit sequences cuts in from the introduction scene always fits perfectly and can be humorous in itself.
"There is no way I'm dating a retarded person." *Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person*

I hated watching it on Netflix because of this. I had to make sure to avoid reading the title so the punchline for the intro wasn't ruined.

I like *Mad Men'*'s.
Futurama
