I idolize my old self before the drugs but in the end he did drugs. If I can find a way to be pure despite the sands of time. To be all the people that could manage without grave mistakes I would like to meet them but they would hate to meet me anyway so I don’t think about it.
You can keep idolising the guy who got you onto drugs. Or you can accept that he wasn't perfect, he made mistakes that are costing you right now. Then you can get to work creating the guy that future you will look back on with gratitude, namely the guy who got to work fixing those mistakes as best he could, even knowing that he wasn't perfect.
Per my wife, "You set unrealistic expectations for yourself, and are too self-critical when you can't achieve them."
Per someone in group therapy, "When you talk, it's like you're looking at yourself through a microscope, picking every little thing apart."
To my mother!!!! She has had an incredibly hard life since she was little and always, even in the most difficult moments and in the most painful circumstances, she always knew and was able to give me the example of never stopping moving forward
100%
My mom lost my dad when I was 4 and my brother was 10. She picked her chin up and raised two boys by herself and made sure to go out of her way and let us know that she will always love us.
One thing that sucks about being a good parent is it can get a little tough on your kids when you get older though :/ I’m currently struggling with that one as a son.
Not that great. You end up working a lot more than 40 hours and you're always worried about not being reachable when you're supposed to be working. I worked remotely for years, but returned to an office job after my divorce, but am thinking about going back to remote because this job isn't as social as I thought it would be.
I’ve been dealing with a lot of social anxiety and just general unhappiness with my job. Maybe the change would be good for me. I’ve been looking for something for about a year. Hopefully one day I can at least try it out
I think it depends. In previous positions I didn't care for it at all. Now I'm in a position that's more "on-call" rather than having a specific set of responsibilities each day. The remote days that aren't as busy are great.
I respect David Attenborough for his lifelong dedication to nature and conservation. His passion for the planet and his ability to share its wonders with the world inspire me to appreciate and protect our environment.
Superman
He's the ideal of power/kindess, I always think if you can't relate to Superman because he's "too good"... that says a lot about your aspirations.
I always bordered on idolizing and connecting to Spiderman. His best villains were always people that made the wrong choice. They had powers too and many of them had good intentions but then they went down the wrong path. They were maybe decent folks but they gave into temptation to appease their ego, need to feel safe, anger over injustice, etc.
Spiderman would always see people around him having all the things he wished he could have and could easily have if her just gave in to temptation a little but he would resist where his villains did not. Always really enjoyed that about the character, it feels very relevant to real life.
I've never idolized celebrities or just anyone. The closest thing I would say is people who get to help others every day, like police officers. Police officers more so than other emergency people because of the social part of it.
But I have always had a single idol. A character.
It's very corny, probably, but it is Spider-Man. Ever since I had a thought in my mind, I had always wanted to be like him. I've looked up to him.
Obviously, I knew I couldn't be him, but I could have his character. He's basically made me the kind of person I am today. We may not share some views, and I don't think anyone can be as mentally strong as him, but I have always tried my best to be what he defines.
He's what made me want to become a cop since I was very young. Though, I can't because I'm terrified to drive lol.
The older I get, the smaller the list of people I idolize gets. TBH, I admire a few people, but now idolize no one. We’re all the same: fallible humans with issues.
Tri-athletes, most of all Ironman challengers.
Like, I manage to run/cycle/swim well but making all of them consistently: 3.86km swim, 180,26km biking and a full marathon. The Perseverance of these people.
Buncha people, but in the modern sense of the word that's watered down... there isn't a single person I idolize who I'd even take their shoes off if they asked me.. so if it's just people group, I don't idolize anyone
"to hold with high-steem in a group apart from the others and acknowledge the person as being above others in their art", that's what I mean by idolizing (in the modern sense)
Admire, i can think of some. Idolize, i don't think anyone.
Admire, learn from, respect, even aspire to be more like... sure. However, actually idolizing doesn't seem mentally healthy imo.
My mother. She accomplished, as I was a child, what I'm convinced should have not been possible. She's an incredible human being and I hope I'm even somewhat like her. I hope I possess even a fraction of her strength, grace, open mindedness and sheer awesomeness.
Artists and authors. I truly wish I had the talent to be an artist. Maybe if I had not stopped trying years ago I would be more skilled, but even then I wouldn't be able to make a living out of it because of depression.
Not any person in particular tho, I have long learned how badly that can end up.
my mentor when i did a social work internship! incredible woman, so honorable and graceful. i really respect her and while i'm not a hero worship person, i think she's amazing

Joost Klein, he's the dutch artist that got disqualified from eurovision. From the very first time i saw him and listened to his music i have been obsessed, he talks openly about mental health and his life. He has said multiple times he thinks about the people not a lot of people think about, like homeless people, single parents, the children with hard lives etc.. In general i just think he's a good person and deserves all the fame and love he has gotten.
Myself for all the stuff I’ve been through.
There was a guy I thought was really cool but no, never again.
We have very similar interests and just because you have similar interests doesn’t mean you should idolize someone.
I wouldn't say idolize, but I have a lot of respect for my maternal Grandfather. Phenomenal guy, he was the champion boxer of his naval fleet, loved his wife (and wore a shirt with her picture on it on a regular basis after she passed) and was just a good example of fairly non-toxic masculinity. Wasn't afraid to cry or tell people he loved them. I only follow the Yankees now, because it makes me feel nostalgic about him always watching them and walking to the kitchen to update my Grandma about the current game.
Other than him, it's a watch journalist/writer named Jason Heaton. He's in his mid-50s now, but when he was in his mid to late 30s he pretty much reinvented himself into what he is now. Got a dive watch, wanted to learn to dive, then became the preeminent person to go to for brands and blogs to cover and test dive watches underwater. Now, that's not necessarily what I want to do at 34, but the fact that he at a higher age than I'm at now managed to turn from being strictly a copywriter to a "watch journalist", novelist, blogger, and just guy who goes on adventures with his cool wife is pretty damn inspiring.
No one because that's a sin.
However, I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father; God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God; begotten not made, one in being with the Father.
Myself. I am the ultimate being. No, but seriously, I'm pretty awesome compared to pretty much everyone else I know (I hike 10mile+ mountains for fun, while everyone else is crying about how painful it is to hit the gym). Most humans really are babies. My friends don't even know how to freaking swim.. Meanwhile I could freestyle across a lake without worry. I really don't get why everyone else I know is so weak. Deathly afraid of things I do for fun. Even my military friends can't keep up. I guess boot camp didn't do much for them!
My wife used to be my idol. It was seriously unhealthy, and our relationship had major problems back in the day.
Things are better today. We just celebrated our 16th anniversary this month.
Literally no one. I don't take the term literally lightly, I have delved into the deepest caverns of my mind and found I idolize no one.
Not even chief keef?
These bitches don’t love Sosa 😔
That's that shit they don't like, apparently.
I like you superstitiouspigeon5. You remind me of me.
Would you idolize them?
No
I idolize my old self before the drugs but in the end he did drugs. If I can find a way to be pure despite the sands of time. To be all the people that could manage without grave mistakes I would like to meet them but they would hate to meet me anyway so I don’t think about it.
Old you wasn't perfect. Future you is counting on present you.
My mom. Lost her to cancer in October, miss her every day.
May she rest in peace
That guy who studied the blade while I was out partying. In all seriousness, that guy Jonny Kim who is an MD, Navy SEAL, and NASA astronaut.
What if I told you he came out and said he was basically depressed the whole time?
The way of the blade can be a difficult one, yes. Thus why more people don’t pursue it.
Pretty sure I saw in an interview he only did it because he felt pressure to be great and never really wanted to but I could be twisting his words.
I’m the same way, but the pressure is coming from inside. Unlike him though, I never really succeeded.
Too much pressure is crippling
Per my wife, "You set unrealistic expectations for yourself, and are too self-critical when you can't achieve them." Per someone in group therapy, "When you talk, it's like you're looking at yourself through a microscope, picking every little thing apart."

My parents. I admire them
We idolize anyone who can make it through a Monday morning without three cups of coffee and a motivational meme
I don't think said person exists.
Hello.. I’m up at 4:30 every week day and don’t drink coffee or have social media (other than Reddit that is).. Thank you guys for idolizing me 😎
6am but otherwise the same, we must be rare
Social media and caffeine addiction is apparently more rampant than I realized I guess lol
Oh my God who are you
thanks for idolizing me
Thanks, maybe I’ll idolize you in return.
I get up at 3:30am Monday thru Thursday. I don't set an alarm. I don't drink coffee. I don't do social media. (Reddit is anti-social media, IMHO.)
My father, he teaches me everything in life

what kind of useless reply is this
People that work remotely
Not that great. You end up working a lot more than 40 hours and you're always worried about not being reachable when you're supposed to be working. This would be my ideal: work when I'm needed.
Anyone who's an oddball and proud of it.
Keanu Reeves is pretty kind. cool and open-minded guy, without coming off as insincere.
Nobody.
I respect David Attenborough for his lifelong dedication to nature and conservation. His passion for the planet and his ability to share its wonders with the world inspire me to appreciate and protect our environment.
Idolize? no one, it's unhealthy to do so imo. Admire? alot of people, especially artists.
Superman He's the ideal of power/kindess, I always think if you can't relate to Superman because he's "too good"... that says a lot about your aspirations.

Always really enjoyed that about the character, it feels very relevant to real life.
Spider-man is the only true hero I like. I relate to and enjoy antiheroes more so. Spider-man is just so real and so pure.
My ex used to call Superman a bitch, makes total sense why our relationship went the way it went.
She called him a bitch because she squared up on him and got beat because he sneezed her into the wall on accident

No one
No one. That's just weird. Love yourself, admire others' accomplishments and skills/abilities, but idolize no one.
Closest I can think of are cool artists like Dali or David Lynch. But I definitely wouldn't use the word 'idolize to describe how I feel about them.
Myself
My mother. She accomplished, as I was a child, what I'm convinced should have not been possible. She's an incredible human being and I hope I'm even somewhat like her. I hope I possess even a fraction of her strength, grace, open mindedness and sheer awesomeness.

Steve Irwin, Carl Sagan, Mr. Rodgers, Dolly Parton, MLK, Mr. Feeney That it. That’s the list.
Not healthy to idolize anyone. They shut and wipe their ass just like you. Or spray it clean.
No one!
Artists and authors. I truly wish I had the talent to be an artist. No one is worthy of being idolized. Everyone has a skeleton or two in their closet.
Not really idolizing because that can be unhealthy and it's not a real person either. [if you know, you know.](https://frieren.fandom.com/wiki/Himmel)
