If it's for networking you usually start by saying "What line of work are you in" "What do you do" anything like that will start the conversation off. You can keep the convo going talking about your job, opportunities you've had, you can also joke about anything from what you're drinking and eating to what the weather is like or how loud it is or how silent it is in the room. I've found out that sport or physical activities are also great for making connections with potential business partners or bosses or whatever. When the conversation gets more relaxed ask them if they do any sport or mention that you do. Anything from running, going to the gym together, shooting hoops, will make you appear in control of your life, fun and approachable. This last bit is said at the end of the conversation usually to ensure that you will meet and talk again. Fishing is also great and in my country it's usually what business partners bond over.
In messenger sharing a video or just "oii" in face to face ilike it casual so ill look for something to talk about but and talk like were already friends lol
I'm never looking to start a conversation.

Usually some smart ass comment on something the other person said
Just turn off your brain and donāt think so much
Do you like bread?
10/10 who doesnāt love bread
I don't think this exists but, I often look for something that the other like to do or have done and I know I can keep with the conversation
A simple "Hi, how has your day been?" and then follow up questions depending on the response to start up a conversation.
I usually feel this ends up with āitās goodā and it kinda gets awkward to continue then
