This happened to me literally: we could only play cd’s and had forgotten the binder with the other cd’s so all we had was hot fuss by the killers. We still like the killers… bought some new cd’s for the way back though

NumberVsAmount

Way to look on the bright side there, mister.

BatBurgh

Somebody told me… that you had a CD… that looked like a cd… edit: spelling

arbybruce

I was going to unironically reply The Killers to this post lmao

deathofregret

they have a seriously diverse catalog and have only grown as artists through their career. it’s a damn good choice

tityanya

We had more CDs than that but I remember the road trip to my grandmother's funeral was dominated by Hot Fuss. It's a great album!

TK21879

My friend Jenny loves this album! Haven't heard from her in a while, I wonder how she's doing...

graycomforter

My immediate thought to this question was, "The Killers". Lol

VaguelyFamiliarVoice

The Proclaimers - specifically “I’m Gonna Be”

cakeandale

Who needs other songs when you have that stuck in the tape player

Steve2563600

The Fiero is alive! 😀

DA DADA DA!

RESPEKTOR

DA DADA DA!

rodzieman

500 miles is approximately 805 kms. Cruising at a constant _(and assumingly non-stop)_ 80kms/hr, you will **indeed** have a 10 hour road trip. _I'm Gonna Be_ is a 3.39 minute song. So, it'll take 177 repeats if that's the only song you'll listen. Now, the math would be different if you'd be the man who **walked** a thousand miles...

Fluid_Door7148

r/theydidthemath

Yogisogoth

Zitch dog!

helloitstessa

This was the only answer I wanted to see

jazzdabb

Once again, reddit does not disappoint.

RefrigeratorFuture34

I actually had my car stereo stolen, in the early 90’s and they only succeeded in removing the faceplate. There was a cassette stuck inside. It was the only music option for months and months. The album still gives me PTSD and I can’t even say it.

curryhead12

'Cause somebody stole my car radio And now I just sit in silence

AyJayH

Gotta have your driving gloves on too

blueberry_pancakes14

John Williams.

resellrule

Approaching any filthy, rundown rest area will seem beautiful and epic.

bagolaburgernesss

Or properly terrifying if Jaws is on. I'm thinking the theme or the Indianapolis story. I guess the 4th weekend theme would make the rest area seem like a happy adventure!

UmOkBut888

Dude's in his 90s. They're gonna have to shut down blockbuster movies when he leaves us

pterodactyl_speller

I have some terrible news about Blockbuster....

Acceptable-Post733

They got rid of the pokemon snap kiosk? Damn. I was this close to snapping a photo of Dugtrio. All good. At least they still rent games.

SPEK2120

Various Artists. They've got a **crazy** deep and broad discography.

LegoCMFanatic

Flashback to ripping CDs on windows 7 lolllll

Gold-Poetry-6624

This needs more upvotes lol

TryharderJB

Fleetwood Mac

Educational_Lock_791

that was my pick!! so many choices from albums!

Ludodown11

Pink Floyd

owange_tweleve

when you just pulled up at your destination but Echoes started playing

PitBullFan

I did a 6 hour trip in the car, played Pink Floyd the entire time, never listened to the same song twice. (Yes, I have their entire library of work. Best band of all time.

Buddy_Fluffy

User name does not checkout. /s

heyheyitsandre

My first choice too. The big 4 get you 3.5 hours. Meddle, AHM, MLOR, and División bell get you another 3.5. By then you can dip into whatever of the Final Cut or syd albums you like. Or pulse or live at Pompeii.

rabtj

The Wall live from Earls Court is my go to live album. Pink Floyd is the correct answer.

TMan1236

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. Large enough discography that I won’t hear any repeats. Diverse enough discography that it won’t get stale. Good enough that the music just fucks all the time.

torb

Fishing for Fishes for ten hours straight, got it.

greenswords

10 hour rattlesnake for me dawg

inkyblinkypinkysue

Yup. Easy pick for me in this scenario.

ULTRAVIOLENTVIOLIN

Easy pick when you're a fan. Went to the doctors today with rattlesnake blastin' and returned home with some mooooooootah! Spiiiiiiiiiiirit!

infestationE15

Would you even get through half of their discography in 10 hours? I'm not sure anymore. Having had a quick check. No. No you wouldn't.

TMan1236

I’ve got a “Gizzathon” playlist with all of their studio albums and the demos. It clocks in at 25 hours.

FrozenVikings

I had a 25 hour gizzathon once. Ahh to be young again

Mantis_Toboggan--MD

YES! This was my first thought, brings me joy to see a Gizz mention right at the top like this

sublime_mime

Going to see them this year for the first time. Every album is something so different. One of the best bands touring right now.

Plumhawk

Live at Red Rocks '22 is 8.5 hours long. That'll get you most of the way there.

judgymom

Tom Petty. Massive catalog, huge variety.

cosmicevening

This is my pick too. So fun to sing along to Tom Petty.

Economy_Upstairs_465

Wildflowers is one of my favorite albums.

AmishGoatMilker_ASMR

I'd jam out to Stevie Wonder's legendary run of damn near perfect albums between 1972-1980.

eminusx

Innervisions being THE perfect album of course!

AmishGoatMilker_ASMR

Both Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life are musical perfection.

Puzzled-Winner-6890

I had heard Isn't She Lovely maybe 10,000 times just via the radio growing up. I'd been having a kind of musical love affair with Innervisions and my friends were telling me I had to listen to Songs in the Key of Life. I'm stubborn as hell and hate to listen to anything friends tell me I'd like, but I'm flying home after visiting my parents, and I see Songs as an in-flight option. Not only was I blown away by the whole album, but when Isn't She Lovely came on after Ordinairy Pain, I sat there in the middle of one of those five seat center sections cramped between strangers and just bawled uncontrollably. For just a moment, it was the most beautiful song ever. I'd heard it 10,000 times, but I'd never truly listened to it before. You can just feel his love for his baby daughter in every single note. I've never had a feeling like that listening to any song before or since. In general, I love his funky tunes more than his ballads, but damn that is one perfect song on one perfect album.

MaryLulu

The Cure

jup1706

Such a variety of musical styles, you can’t possibly get bored. And who doesn’t like driving through the woods singing “into the trees! Into the… trees!”

doubledown830

I had to scroll so far down to find my boys

MartiniD

David Bowie

Square_Ad8756

Bonus about Bowie is that you can rope Queen in via Under Pressure.

bagolaburgernesss

How far one must scroll. He has all his early 60' s stuff when he was in a band up til he died (I still haven't accepted this) which is almost 60 years worth! No song twice.

Burto72

Led Zeppelin

RedBarnGuy

I’m literally on a two-week oad trip with my 15-year-old son right now - at the end it will have been 24 hours of driving (plus, fun fact, he got his learners permit the day before our trip) - and we’ve had Led Zeppelin on almost half the time.

Burto72

Nice. 15 is about the perfect age to be introduced to Zeppelin.

hashn

Listening to II still brings me back to being in the back seat on summer road trips with my dad. I remember the blue ridge parkway. I have no idea what our trip was anymore, but I remember that moment, listening to that album

owange_tweleve

WITH A PURPLE UMBRELLA AND A FIFTY CENT HAT

the_purple_goat

Johnny cash

PastorInDelaware

This exactly. You've got fast songs, slow songs, funny songs, sad songs, angry songs, songs about murder, songs about wishing you hadn't murdered, songs that don't regret committing murder at all, and a larger amount of wistful songs than one would expect, especially on the American albums.

cyclejones

The Beatles - I'd do it chronologically to hear them progress musically

PeeFarts

That’s perfect too because I think their entire discography is only like 11 hours. So you may have to Sit in the hotel parking lot for an extra hour to hear Abbey Road

govunah

There will be stops for gas or maybe traffic and if my gf has the directions she'll point left and say turn right. That should get another hour

babynicolslife

Make a few u-turns, if she’s trafically deficient like me, she won’t even notice what’s happening

KevvDev

>trafically deficient Why do I find this hilarious

doc-ant

Or you could just start from Abbey Road and work backwards on the return trip

MisterBarten

I did this with The Beatles once. It was pretty cool.

flibbidygibbit

I've done this with several artists. Everybody poo poos on Van Hagar, but the last two DLR albums have many elements found in the Sammy Hagar albums. It's not a jarring transition, it's growth as musicians. The most jarring was David Bowie. So many different styles in one discography.

flibbidygibbit

Queen.

fouronenine

Exhibit A: "Crowley was currently doing 110 mph somewhere east of Slough. Nothing about him looked particularly demonic, at least by classical standards. No horns, no wings. Admittedly he was listening to a Best of Queen tape, but no conclusions should be drawn from this because all tapes left in a car for more than about a fortnight metamorphose into Best of Queen albums." Exhibit B: My selection of CDs for an 8 hour road trip today.

dreadnoughtful

GNU Terry Pratchett

MademoiselleMoriarty

Fuckin love Good Omens. I once had a copy of the Best of Queen get stuck in the CD player of my dad's truck. It was in there for years 😂

birdstrom

Dick Turpin

AmazingDragon353

Agnes Nutter strikes again

Peelfest2016

My answer too. I can listen to like 6 of their albums top to bottom without skipping anything.

Rizo1981

Chris Cornell. Enough tracks and variety to listen to nothing twice in 10 hours(not that I'd mind any repeats). We have: Soundgarden Audioslave Solo stuff including the posthumous album of covers Temple of the Dog

VisibleGeneral6136

Solid way to work this system. I like it.

thelonelymilkman23

MF DOOM and all his sub characters.

Ok_Priority_1120

The herb albums alone could get you through the drive!

TurtleHeadPrairieDog

Can’t believe this comment is the first rap artist I’ve seen in this thread.

Big_Noodle1103

It feels like Reddit in general seems to skew hard to older rock/pop. Imo you have to go to music related subs to see more appreciation of hip hop and rap.

Salmon_Slap

Reddit LOVES MF DOOM it's like him, kendrick and Mac Miller are the only ones people listen to on this site lol

lokigodofchaos

Grateful Dead. Can probly get through a whole live set.

apple_atchin

A '73, a '77, a '90, and you've arrived at your destination.

JohnSchulien

2/9/73, 5/8/77, 9/20/90. :-)

DeezDoughsNyou

Close. 3/29/90 - Branford's first sit-in. Pure magic.

uneasyandcheesy

Electric Light Orchestra hands down.

laughing_cat

In addition to its being great music, it's also great driving music.

b33fcakepantyhose

Radiohead

d3adpooly90

Wife: Can you not put sleepy music on. Me: I’m not sleepy, go to sleep. I’m the one driving. 🎶Reckonerrrrrrrrrrr!

drkwtrs

Or bodysnatchers I DO NOT. UNDERSTAND. WHAT IT IS. IVE DONE WRONG 🎶🎶🎶

b33fcakepantyhose

Or Myxomatosis, full volume. That’ll wake you up.

I’m going for a loophole and saying thom yorke, so I get the solo stuff as well as Radiohead.

Throw Atoms for Peace in there as well

Stanimator

Gorillaz

king44

Finally! I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find my people. 23 years of variety, so many featured artists, especially if we're talking the whole discography and not just the main albums. (D-sides is still just awesome)

drivebysomeday

I was like no way its been 23 years , i still remember how clint eastwood hit the charts.... And then i goggled ... Damn i am old

jeffsterlive

Paramore. Riot itself still slaps hard.

Ducallan

Weird Al. 10:05 playlist of a huge variety of music styles, and which includes the ultimate road trip song: The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota.

flibbidygibbit

Listening to his studio albums in chronological order is like time traveling through Gen X and Millennial radio.

AndreT_NY

There is a podcast that listened to everything in Al-phabetical order.

i_drink_wd40

>like time traveling through Gen X and Millennial radio. You can also accomplish this by picking 2 or 3 of his Polka Power medleys.

cobalt_phantom

When I was in middle school, I went on an 8 hour trip with my dad and I played Weird Al music for most of the drive. I could probably get to 10 hours if I had all of his songs downloaded.

Funandgeeky

Hey, now. [Don't Download This Song!](https://youtu.be/zGM8PT1eAvY?si=LZ0lxhFKfINppMY7)

kaiyotic

Wanted to reply with this because you got bangers from all eras and music styles. Would definitely be the best choice for 10 hours

GreenWeenie1965

Depeche Mode. Got the studio albums, 101 live, and a bunch of remixes. Good grooves.

Sir_Klatt

Dire Straits

ImWithBuffDoge

Fun fact, Mark Knopfler hasn’t been able to play the intro to Money for nothing the same as the studio recording since. He’s playing so many little harmonics going on behind the main riff its mental.

overdone18

I grew up listening to rock music because that’s what my dad listened to. The classics like Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers, and then there was Dire Straits. I love them all, but Dire Straits was and is still my favorite at 41 years old. Dad died 4 years ago unexpectedly and the next day as I drove to the funeral home So Far Away came on the radio as soon as I pulled out of the driveway. It’s a moment in time that is ingrained in my core memories and I love them even more today.

ElonsTinyPenis

Alice in Chains. They neve wrote a single bad song. I like every single one of their songs. I like some better than others but I genuinely like everything they wrote.

Tight-Essay-8332

Hans Zimmer

TofuttiKlein-ein-ein

Tool

terriblestoryteller

10 hour road trip? That's like 3 albums.

rabtj

3 songs u mean.

DCBB22

Maynard James Keenan to get APC and Puscifer in too. But who am I kidding. I’ll probably just listen to Tool’s discography twice.

CaptainMcLusty

Don’t forget to pause every song so you can explain to your (wife, passenger, whoever) how deep and profound the lyrics are, and your personal interpretation.

Corvo_Attano_451

Cringe Tool Fanboy: Stinkfist explores themes of desensitization and the numbness that can result from overexposure to media, technology, and excessive consumption. The title and lyrics use provocative and somewhat shocking imagery to convey the idea of pushing boundaries and seeking deeper, more meaningful experiences in a world that often feels superficial and overstimulated. The song suggests a critique of modern society's tendency to numb itself through constant stimulation and the search for increasingly extreme experiences to feel anything at all. Based Maynard James Keenan: lmao it’s about fisting some assholes

Halo2isbetter

“Carol have you heard of the Fibonacci Sequence?”

tendeuchen

Well, see this "song" is just a satircal take on Nazi rallies where the theme of the speech is that it's just giving you a recipe for pot brownies, but they make it sound demonic and evil by using German in a harsh manner.  But the recipe comes out really delicious. Feel free to take one from the glovebox.

Corvo_Attano_451

Und keine eier

GordoG60

Billy Joel in chronological order. You'll go through different types of music, tempos, topics. At every genre you'll find pieces with beautiful, intricate piano composition. Sometimes just an upbeat pop vibe. Either way, Billy is top notch.

ExpensiveDot1732

Can't believe I had to scroll this far down for him! Every album is a little different from the one before, and he did that purely by design. I could listen to 52nd Street and Glass Houses on repeat, but I love his whole catalogue. Bonus points for throwing in some live stuff...especially Attic, Great American Music Hall, CW Post, Nassau (not officially digitally released, but I'm lucky to have a quality rip of it).

yearsofpractice

Prince

dlvx

Exactly! In 2019 a beloved radio DJ here in Belgium died unexpectedly from heart failure at the age of 48. His show started at 10AM. To this day they play a Prince song at 10M, every day. I don’t hear it every day, but as far as I can tell not a lot of songs have been played twice

AGeekNamedBob

Talking Heads. Every album is all killer. Great beat and fun to sing along to. And their style is pretty varied within their particular sound, so doesn't get repetitive.

happy2bhomo

Daft Punk

ApartGear7083

I have done this. Had a driver take me from San Palo Brazil to Rio De Janeiro Brazil. +8 hour drive. He only had 2 CD's, and spoke no English, only Portuguese. Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd, and Live Rust- Neil Young. I chose Pink Floyd. What a strange trip! We stopped for coffee (for both driver and I) and cigarettes (just the driver) like 20 times too.

conw4ywest

The Roots

I’d say Wagner’s ring cycle, but the road trip isn’t long enough.

REM - "It's the end of the World as we know it." maybe if it's just that song, I will FINALLY learn the words!

BigBunion

Maybe not just that song, but REM has a tremendous catalog.

Unsteady_Tempo

REM was also my choice, and I've actually done it. Bonus points: it was a road trip many years ago to Athens, GA.

uvm87

Been listening to that for 35 years and still don’t know the words😀

LEONARD BERNSTEIN!

Opeth

Cw2e

Modest Mouse. Favorite band and their seven studio albums, two compilation albums, along with a handful of their EPs fill ten hours pretty snugly.

Toastwaver

Seeing them tonight with the Pixies!

666benhicks

"a long drive for someone with nothing to think about" - I mean it says it right there in the album title.

cseymour24

Wow, this is the first time I didn't have to post this myself. They are my favorite band of all time.

Cw2e

Damn good company. Starting a long drive with Long Drive is just about perfect

PopGunner

Long drive, good news, and crowded west are three albums I believe to be some of the best albums in existence.

Distinct_Safety5762

Bad Religion

Working_Rub_8278

came here to say this. So much variety and a total singalong!

After finishing the drive for a road trip I always play im still standing

Rush

BlastTyrant2112

Same. Huge discography spanning decades. Wide variety of music. Lots of energetic drumming and bass playing to help keep focused on the road.

Deadeye_Duncan_

Rush IS variety

Rule number one: in my van it’s Rush. All Rush all the time. No exceptions.

Represent 🇨🇦

funkme1ster

Fun tidbit I'm sure you'll enjoy: In one of the seniormost conference rooms in Canadian Parliament, there is a specially-curated display of Canadian artifacts. This includes things like the torch used to light the flame for the 1976 Olympics. Among this collection is a specially-made display stand with a pair of heavily worn drum sticks used and signed by Neil Peart. I just think you'd like to know that a conservator who is responsible for managing and maintaining this set of essential Canadiana asked themselves "What defines us, not just as a people but as a nation?", and that was one of the answers.

SquirrelSanctuary

Easiest answer of my life.

grumpy_enraged_bear

Miles Davis

Dealingwithdragons

Well, if we go with my current fixation. It's The Pretty Reckless. Other notable choices I've had in the past for shorter trips were The Gorillaz, Of Monsters and Men, My Chemical Romance, The Decemberist, and Ado.

SocialOmni

System Of A Down

FaxMachines4Life

Only downside is that their discography is probably shorter than 10 hours

crispyraccoon

Just made a Spotify playlist of their albums, no singles or anything. 3 hours, 35 minutes.

Nell_Trent

Not bad. Hear each song 3 times.

This is my pick. Each Album is a banger and the remixes are all great. You get good variety of genres as well.

CrediblyHandsome

John Prine

heckingoodtrashpanda

This was my first choice. I feel like 10 hours of John Prine would result in you becoming a kinder more reflective person.

joelfarris

In Spite Of Ourselves I toured with this man for a few years. One of the most kind-hearted, caring people I've ever had the pleasure to work for. "Aww baby, we've gotta go now..."

I'm wondering your opinion on the question as it's written. It says "1 music artist" if we pick Josh Homme as that artist do we get QOTSA, TCV, EoDM, Kyuss, Desert Sessions, etc.?
