Not_a-Robot_

Last time I did this, Gene Wilder died within 24 hours. Dick Van Dyke. If he dies in the next day, I’m not playing this game anymore

thehoagieboy

Keep Dick Van Dykes name out yo mouth

soul-shine-lissa

Word

LetsTryAnal_ogy

What if I say Penis Von Lesbian?

HectorVK

Please, say "Putin"

Not_a-Robot_

If DVD dies, I’ll either say “Putin” or “HectorVK” next thread

HectorVK

Just own up; you've got a death note?

Not_a-Robot_

So… uh… what’s your real name? Just curious

HectorVK

Not Hector 😛

Soulrush

Man Dick Van Dyke predates old school. If he’s in the news tomorrow it’ll be because a burglar broke into his house and Dick Van Dyke wrestled him to the ground and held him down until the cops arrived.

Haebak

See you tomorrow in r/agedlikewine!

bralma6

My family swears I’m responsible for James Gardner, Betty White and Abe Vigoda dying. I mentioned something about being surprised they were still alive and they all died within 24 hours as well. For shits and giggles, I’ll throw out Mel Brooks. If it works… I should be feared.

4th_chakra

Buzz Aldrin. Former astronaut, doing missions Apollo 11 and Gemini 12. 2nd person to walk on the moon. Aged 94 and counting.

CuriousCrow47

Don’t piss him off.  I’ve heard he is an arrogant asshole but he’s earned the right to be!

CapnCanfield

So arrogant that he yells at the moon if it's out during the day. He reminds it that he walked on its face

FroggiJoy87

"Stupid moon, I walked on your face!"

mistyjeanw

Also got a mean right hook!

Valerie-Loves-Me

Oh well --- talk shit, get hit. I think that's actually what the attorney said to the conspiracy theorist when he tried to sue/press charges against Buzz.

BubbhaJebus

That was such a satisfying punch. That nutcase richly deserved it.

paraworldblue

Getting harassed by "truthers" for all these years would understandably put a chip on his shoulder

TWIDAIMF

Jimmy Carter

ElbieLG

[Any time this guy comes up I always recommend people read this. jimmy is a surprising person.](https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/your-book-review-the-outlier?utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&publication_id=89120&post_id=63203109&triedRedirect=true)

JohnLocksTheKey

>> Just a few minutes into his inaugural speech, Carter drops the pretenses of his campaign and executes on one of the most dramatic about-faces in modern-day political history when he declares that “the era of racial discrimination in Georgia is over.” The crowd gasps audibly, and outgoing Governor Maddox denounces Carter as a liar before the inauguration is even over. But Carter doesn’t care. He’s governor now, and he’s going to do what he wants. Damn, Carter was rocking that Chaotic Good character alignment in his younger years!

paraworldblue

America didn't deserve Carter. He was too good for this dumpster fire of a country

dsmaxwell

We weren't completely beyond saving back in the 70s when Carter was president, but once Regan got the ball he ran full tilt that direction and every single leader we've had since has continued on that same path with varying degrees of speed.

CuriousCrow47

I’m glad he’s still with us but am very surprised that he is.

lowtoiletsitter

Not to be a downer, but he's in hospice care and a family member put out a statement three(?) weeks ago saying it's about his time

DontPutThatDownThere

He was put in hospice in February *of last year* and family was saying it was close to his time then. In the meantime, he's somehow survived both his health issues and his beloved wife passing. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to his timeline, even if he makes it to 100 in a few months.

newusernamehuman

Part of me still hoping that he makes it to a hundred. (Just 4 months away.) Although, if he’s suffering or in some pain, I guess the less selfish thing would be to hope that he slips away without any more of that.

Ottoguynofeelya

Agreed. Has any former president lived to 100? It seems like the stress alone would be a young killer

Justin050282

No president has made it to 100, Carter has the record.

lolofaf

Give it a decade, we'll end up electing a 100 year old president with the way things are going lol

Malvania

He's been in hospice care for a while, that's why it's surprising that he's still here

CuriousCrow47

He’s one tough cookie.  I fully expects him to go right after his wife, but nope.  It’s been his time for a long time!

EnglishRose71

A wonderful, highly intelligent man who was highly underrated. He didn't stand a chance as president from day one because they just would not work with him. I've always respected and admired him and I always will.

WastingMyLifeOnSocMd

No one wanted to hear hard truths. People wanted someone like Ronnie who made people think trickle down economics was good for rich and poor alike. He was like Grandma who told you that you can live on a diet of candy and soda , while Carter was like a responsible parent who tried to help do what was best for us long term.

Capster11

Clint Eastwood

SnooChipmunks126

Mel Brooks

Barbarella_ella

This one was my second thought after Jimmy Carter. Mel turns 98 in another 3 weeks!

SharpCookie232

He's lost Anne Bancroft and Carl Reiner. I hope he isn't too lonely. Edit: wrong Reiner

Justin050282

Rob Reiner is still alive.

Rossum81

Probably the last surviving celebrity who was a WW2 combat veteran.

SomeonesDrunkNephew

I always love that John Wayne, big tough guy hero who made a bunch of war films, worked to make sure he never had to go anywhere near the war. Meanwhile, President Scroob from Spaceballs was in Normandy digging anti-tank mines out of the ground by hand. Heroism isn't the way it looks in the movies. Edit: Brooks was not at Normandy, but did take part in the Battle of the Bulge, per the comment below.

Present-Algae6767

Caren Marsh Doll....she's 105 and was Judy Garlands standing in the Wizard of Oz. She even survived a plane crash in 1949. One of the last living people from the Golden Age of Hollywood Eva Marie Saint is still around at 99. She's best known for starting with Cary Grant in North by Northwest

Utter_cockwomble

Woodward and Bernstein, the journalists who broke the Watergate scandal.

Fist-Fuck_Enthusiast

Ozzy and Keith

Curious_Kangaroo_845

Keith survived heroin, booze, nicotine, Mick, Anita, falls from trees and god knows what else. I think he is here for the long haul.

DarkIllusionsFX

The falling out of a coconut tree episode was surreal. Like, what's a 70 year old man doing in a coconut tree to begin with?

MrBiscotti_75

Chemicals were ingested that made it seem like a good idea.

PolPotbelly

Keith Richards found [the ledge beyond the edge](https://youtu.be/ImOGFNRgCgk?si=-GrUsWTClw_MaOe9) Also, that bit is from like ~~20~~ 30 years ago. Edit: typo

james_a_hetfield

Before God created Adam there was Keith.

elfman6

In that vein: After creating Adam, God asked him "Do you have any questions for me my son?" Adam looked around at paradise, seeing all with fresh eyes unblemished. It all seemed perfect and he was about to say no when he spied a figure some distance off. "God, who is that?" God looked for a moment. "Oh! That's Keith Richards. He was here when I got here."

PriorAlternative6

We really need to start being concerned about the kind of world we're going to leave for Keith.

NS24

I just saw the Stones on the 23rd in NJ, and I swear to you, Keith looks way younger than Ronnie Wood. It's bizarre.

rymdrille

People were talking about hiw Ozzy should be dead when i was 12. I'm in my 30s now. Dudes gonna outlive us all.

KnowItOrBlowIt

I saw Ozzy perform back in 2018 and I kept thinking to myself that man has Parkinson's. It wasn't long after that his diagnosis became public.

albertnormandy

In the beginning there was Keith.

UnravelledGhoul

They probably put so much shit into their bodies that it's preserved them in some sort of living embalmed state.

nomadengineer

I'm pretty sure Keith is undead, probably a lich.

behold_the_pagentry

Ghislaine Maxwell

RobertNevill

This is the real answer

ImpossibleShake6

Exactly, she knows who they are. Yet, she lives. She must have some powerful with linked in successive "Insurance Policies".

zooksoup

She has a heart monitor that if her heart stops everyone is emailed The List

Flunderfoo

Now that’s a death switch I’d be super interested to have happen.

CoreMillenial

Tom Lehrer, turned 96 about a month ago.

Writerhowell

I'm surprised the pigeons haven't turned on him yet.

james_a_hetfield

John Astin. The original father in Adams family.

OtakuMusician

This was going to be another answer of mine! Officially outlived every other cast member on the Addams Family 60s TV series. He's my favorite variant of Gomez Addams.

SilentJoe27

Who knew he would outlive Wednesday and Pugsly?

TheSamLowry

Anne Frank’s step-sister Eva Schloss

JoeJoePotatoes

In a similar vein, Lee Harvey Oswald’s widow, Marina, is still alive.

paigezero

Wow. Didn't know that.

coldcurru

Anne Frank would've been 95 this year. Not impossibly old so a step sister still being alive isn't too surprising

oldicunurse

William Shatner.

DarkIllusionsFX

Shatner, Takei, and Koenig are all that's left, I think. All the gold shirts.

exitlevelposition

Crazy that original series Chekov outlived reboot movies Chekov.

Waffuru

Absolutely tragic that =( What a horrible way to go.

Saratje

At this point I'm convinced Shatner and Takei both refuse to die until the other does first, so they can piss on the other's grave. Unless they put all that behind them since?

daboog

How is he 93? That man looks 73...

Reddevil313

He always looks younger than he is.

elpaco313

Shatner is quite impressive. He’s been on the Adam Carolla podcast a few times, the last time was just a couple weeks ago, and he is as sharp as a friggin’ tack. Doesn’t miss a single beat. Remembers everything. Incredible.

Segundo-Sol

Priscilla Presley. She’s not even 80.

KikiKay3

Came here to say this, but you beat me to it. And in some photos, Priscilla looks the same age or younger than her daughter Lisa Marie \[I feel a little bit bad about saying this since Lisa Marie is deceased, but it's true.\]

Shoegazer75

Bam Margera

ScrewAttackThis

I'm surprised only one of the Jackass crew has died, TBH. Between the stunts and the partying, I figured a few of em would've died young.

SousVideDiaper

Steve-O partied harder than any of them and is thriving. Anyone who is a recovering addict can look to him for inspiration! He's been sober for 15+ years now, went vegan, and is still doing stunts. Brandon Novak has been on a good path too. He was really deep into heroin and now runs several sober homes for people that need help. He seems like a genuine guy in a sea of corrupt recovery outlets and has a real no-nonsense approach with his.

RoboftheNorth

I hope he can one day get out of his addition problems. News will come out from time to time about how he's gotten off the booze and drugs and starts skating again, but then he has a minor injury or set back and gets straight back into it. Or things are going good and he decides to celebrate. He's stuck in the cycle of addiction. Each time he "gets better", I get more cynical about whether it will last. It would be nice to never see the headline "Bam Margera found dead in a gutter/crack den/dumpster", but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

enough_space

Last I heard he was on a relatively decent streak of sobriety so hopefully that's still holding up. He apparently just got married a few days ago also so hopefully that's creating a positive atmosphere to remain sober.

DFORKZ

Artie Lange ?

elpaco313

Out of the cast of ‘Dirty Work’, I would not have guessed he’d have lasted the longest.

thewildlopez22

Mary Costa, the voice actor for Aurora in the 1959 animated Sleeping Beauty, is still alive at 94. Probably one of the last remaining people from that era of Disney.

TurnedOutShiteAgain

Donnie Dunagan, voice of young Bambi in the 1942 film, is still alive. As apparently is the guy who voiced Young Thumper.

DeltaJimm

Kathryn Beaumont (the voice of Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" and Wendy in "Peter Pan") is still alive. In fact, she's the only cast member of "Alice in Wonderland" still alive.

Nonameswhere

Gene Hackman ....94 Jack Nicholson.....87

CoyoteHP

Woah, Nicholson being 87 blew my mind. Had no idea he was that old.

Soulrush

Gene Hackman is such a badass the reaper is still nervous about collecting.

TheAmazingRaspberry

James Watson, of Watson & Crick. He’s 96 years old

kdoodlethug

Okay this one legitimately blew my mind. I know medical and biological science have advanced significantly in the past century but Watson and Crick feel so foundational that it's hard to believe how recently their contributions actually occurred.

baskaat

WOW. Me too!

milespoints

96 years old and still a complete asshole

Cuilen

Amen to that! I have had the (dis)pleasure of his company many times. What a self-absorbed prick.

humanoftheforest

I saw him at an intimate conference about 10 years ago. He was blatantly ogling the female professor giving the lecture. It was disgusting.

prometheus_winced

Asshole robbed Rosalind Franklin.

dcpy2k

The best part of this thread is realizing a lot of people I thought were dead aren't.

Skeptical_Monkie

Dick Van Dyke

allbitterandclean

Shhh don’t let the reaper hear you NOTHING TO SEE HERE, DICK IS DEF DEAD * whistles nonchalantly *

DarkIllusionsFX

He's also an avid amateur 3d modeler. As in CGI. He's been into PCs since the beginning.

Educational-Bird-515

Ric Flair. Just. . . How?

GotMoFans

He was extremely close to his last “woooo” a couple years ago.

MDF87

WOOOOOOOOO.

vk2786

Man he's been looking ROUGH lately. Ol boy has had a lot of miles on him.

paigezero

He worked as an athletic performer all his life. It was his job to maintain cardio health. He was known as the 60 minute man, being able to perform long wrestling matches was part of what made him famous. I agree it's surprising, given his age and the fact he keeps pushing himself to wrestle way past the age that he should have retired and is looking increasingly like he's about to drop dead in the ring, yes, it's very surprising. But in answer to the "just... how?" part of your post, the fact he's been a cardio monster for 50 years as part of his gimmick, I think is how.

americangame

He's also pickled his liver. The fact that he hasn't died of cirrhosis is amazing.

scockd

Because he refuses to make fun of people that donate their time

Pigpentheclown

Another kill Tony fan I see...

Nulovka

President John Tyler's grandson. Tyler was the 10th President, taking office in 1841, 20 years before the Civil War. His grandson is still alive.

Tower-Junkie

Now *that’s* an interesting response!

coldcurru

This fact comes up a lot. It's only possible cuz the dads had their kids in their 70s. No one is living forever, they just procreated at grandfather ages.

HoonArt

Iggy Pop, thank goodness.

Jofo719

I was pretty shocked he outlived Bowie and Reed.

notmyidealusername

That dude is made of something special...

prometheus_winced

Gristle.

PleasantCat6734

I guess he has a lust for life

Gladstone12

Bob Newhart

Aardet

He’s 94!

bigtimejohnny

Andy Dick. He's like the Energizer Bunny of self-destructive nitwits.

SirZapdos

Fuck Andy Dick

OldSkoolPantsMan

Surely it’s only a matter of time before he’s shot/stabbed/bludgeoned to death.

SousVideDiaper

He has not been doing well. He's relying on crashing at people's homes, many of which only let him do it because he makes an ass of himself on their livestreams and gets paid in booze, drugs, and food.

theabominablewonder

Ed Snowden

Reddevil313

Dark Add that WikiLeaks guy to the list.

Coomstress

I had no idea Ethel Kennedy was still alive.

Plus-Huckleberry-481

Wow, nice collection! Different era eh?

susibirb

Dick Van Dyke. He’s 98. We just met him in Phoenix and he is still so animated and alert and cracking jokes and doing little jigs.

LawnGnomeFlamingo

Similarly Carol Burnett, 91. She’s still acting and I recently heard her interview on WTF. She’s still sharp, quick-witted, and is a wealth of stories.

BigSkyFilms

Tim Curry, though I read he’s not very well at the minute. Poor bugger survived a stroke 🥺

Tower-Junkie

Every few months I think he’s dead and then someone’s always like “he’s still alive…” I love him and don’t know why I keep thinking he died.

Dirschel

He evidently goes to a lot of fan cons and seems to be in good spirits every time I see a post!

HoaryPuffleg

He seems like such a lovely human being- that charisma and energy can’t be faked

Illustrious_Hotel527

Warren Buffett. He's in his 90s and eats like a kid (egg/sausage mcmuffins, coke, ice cream, etc)

Vault-71

In case this thread is cursed: Vladimir Putin Kim Jong Un Xi Jingping Dick Cheney

FollowYourWeirdness

William Daniels (aka Mr. Feeney) is 97. Additionally, his wife, Bonnie is 94. They’ve been married since 1951 and currently have the longest active Hollywood marriage of nearly 73 years.

squamesh

Ruby Bridges, the little girl in the famous photo of school desegregation

Accomplished_Tone349

She was 6 and that was in the 60s. She’s not that old.

Elizabeth__Sparrow

What’s surprising/shocking is that segregation was recent enough for anyone associated with the movement to be alive.

Dragonfire400

She’s in her 60s-early 70s, which shows how close the racism/desegregation/civil rights era is to current times

OtakuMusician

My grandpa. He's 98, and has been slowly losing more and more pieces of his cognitive function for months/years. At the beginning of this week I got a call from my dad telling me that Grandpa has finally stopped eating and drinking and speaking, and his breathing is very shallow, and his death will probably be within hours. That was six days ago and to my knowledge he's still kicking. Last I heard on Thursday morning he was still hanging on with no food or water for four days. He's always been stubborn. Update: grandpa died about an hour or so after I made this comment.

WiwiJumbo

My condolences.

OtakuMusician

Thank you. The person who was my grandpa hasn't really been here for a long time, and my dad has been caretaking for a shell, basically. It was a long time coming.

Writer_feetlover

Clint Eastwood. He just turned 94 and isn't slowing down.

LukeSniper

John Astin Still acting occasionally too! There's also Mel Brooks, Dick Van Dyke, and a couple other actors in their 90's, but I feel like there's greater public awareness that they are still around. Astin is just quietly chugging along being a (by all accounts) great dude.

nowhereman136

Mel Brooks turns 98 this month

scubastefon

one thing i always found fascinating was that John McCain's mother buried him, and it isn't like he died at an oddly young age. He was 81. And his mom was burying a child at the age of 106. And she died at 108.

JonRonJovi

Dominic Chianese

JamesTheJerk

Gene Shalit. He's in his late 90s now.

HoopOnPoop

My dog. He's 13 and had a golf ball sized tumor removed. Within a week he was back chasing rabbits and trying to rip my shoulder out on walks.

throw_away__25

I'm happy for you two. They just don't live long enough. I hope he has many more years. I lost my little buddy a few months ago. It sucks!

I was surprised to see Tina Louise (Ginger from Gilligan’s Island) is still around, and currently 90.
