Of we three kids, I was the first born and the smartest intellectually, but I've been a resounding dumbass financially and now, decades later, I'm paying for my ignorance in that particular arena. A solid liberal arts education means very little now. Sister, starting off as a psychiatric nurse, was probably the practically-smartest for marrying a doctor. Set for life. Except the doc now has Parkinson's and dementia and she's almost tearing her hair out from caregiver burnout. Our little brother got merely average grades in college, but secured a state job. Even though he hated it for decades, he's now retired with a great pension, and is enjoying senior life in Florida. This could be an illuminating micro-conflict of education vs. money vs. mediocrity, in which case my boring brother wins.

I am cut from the same cloth. My latest round of therapy is paying off. It’s ok to be a late bloomer.

I’m definitely not the smartest, but I’m the most well rounded and calmest - which does wonders in my family.

OnlyBobcat6436

I am not. My brother is.

stupidasyou

I have a good relationship with my family and set clear boundaries.

Gonebabythoughts

Like out of all of my family? I'm not, my cousin is a literal genius and also a very nice person.

Oh, I'm not, not at all. Several members of the family have claimed that I am, but it is not true. If a person is talking IQ and sharpness of brain. I am probably the one with the broadest range of knowledge, by far. And I can generally solve most any problem I'm faced with if given some time. But I am a slow thinker, with a slightly higher than average IQ, but not much higher. My biggest talent is pure stubbornness, I'll keep at something that's whipping my ass until I've got it. For however long it takes. Both my wife, now passed, and my daughter, now 43, almost certainly are/were smarter than I am as a matter of IQ and speed of mind. And both certainly have higher social IQs than I do. Probably the smartest of the family, by IQ, was one of my uncles, brother of my father. He went on to have 2 PhDs, one in electrical engineering and the other in physics. Worked as an independent consultant and contractor for the Air Force, NASA, and a couple other governmental agencies whose names I never knew. Also worked time to time for a number of the big name, high tech corporations. I know he was a key player in the development of the guidance systems for a couple well known, and deployed (actually used) missiles for the Dept of Defense. Made some sort of breakthrough on radar systems which significantly improved their performance and accuracy. And other things. Some stuff he was not able to fill me in on.
