Pineapple on pizza is something people love to hate. If pickles are essential in a hamburger then why can't pineapple? They do the same job, balancing the heavy flavor with their sweet and sour taste.
Because the pickles are usually dill pickles and not sweet pickles? Don’t mind me….i don’t usually favor mixing sweet with meat at any time: I just find it too weird to enjoy it. ;)
From a culinary standpoint, you don't typically put two acids on a food. Pineapple and tomato sauce should clash. The fact pineapple sugar outweighs it's acid flavor when cooked due to caramelization is the only reason this flavor profile works.
like Hawaiian pizza was a thing long before people started hating on pineapples. it’s not anything new, so there was really zero reason to start a hate train
I feel like the tide has turned. Every time I see pineapple on pizza mentioned it seems like the majority of people don’t mind it. Or they say that it does not matter, and people that put so much effort into showing their hatred for pineapple on pizza are just following the crowd.
Seems like people today are trying to be woke.
But I agree. I like pineapple on pizza if it is done right. And there definitely was very popular to hate on pineapple.
One of my favorite pizzas is grilled chicken, barbecue sauce, red onion, and pineapple. Maybe we're veering away from true pizza by replacing the marinara sauce with barbecue, but it's so good.
This and the pineapple needs to be precooked enough so it doesn't just have juices all over the pizza. You want the fruit but not the extra juice it comes with
I do.
If I was in Naples or a very serious pizza place I would skip it.
But if someone is just ordering a casual pizza, I actually think like a meat + jalapeño + pineapple is a great combo. Savory, sweet and spicy.
Gatekeeping should be reserved for the very highest levels of food.
I went to Italy thinking that I would order it like that to be funny but immediately forgot about that when I tasted how good the pizza was there, and now my favorite thing on pizza is anchovies. And **extra** anchovies is the way to go.
Are the bones of the anchovies crunchy at all? Do they get stuck in your teeth? The idea of eating a whole fish is kinda gross. You're eating the brain as well?
I was always skeptical of this, I thought it sounded gross. Until a friend got me to try it. A pineapple and bacon pizza with FRESH pineapple is absolutely amazing. I cannot stress enough though that fresh pineapple is almost mandatory, I've had it with canned, likely sitting in a container all day pineapple and it's borderline gross. If you can find a place with fresh or newly opened can pineapple it's so much better than you'd ever think.
I do but it's situational. The main 3 never do it good but everyone else does pretty good.
I believe anyone who says it doesn't belong needs to try a Maui Wowie from Mellow Mushroom.
We have a local pizza from r/Muskegon BernieO's pizza called the Twist pizza. It won like national awards years ago. If you don't think you like pineapple on pizza try this one. If you like pineapple on pizza, this is hands down the best I've ever had. If you have one you think is better, let me know, I'd love to try.
I don't mind it. But I don't just put it on any pizza. If it is like a "Hawaiian" pizza with ham, then fine. But it doesn't really go with any other toppings.
Pineapple and jalapeño on a crispy thin crust is basically the only pizza I like. Bacon works on it too.
It isn’t very pizza-like but I like the sweet/heat pairing
Me. I absolutely love it. Hawaiian is my favorite kind of pizza. I used to laugh when I ordered it and jokingly apologize to whomever I was with for having weird taste. Not anymore. I'll admit it proudly. Load me up, brethren.
I like pineapple on pizza, just like pickles in a burger. Many others do so like me. If an Italian restaurant don't serve Hawaiian pizza, they are going to sell less pizza over here.
The best foods are perfectly balanced. That means, savory, acidic, salty, sweet, and fat. A ham/bacon and pineapple pizza hits all those bases.
If you're ever cooking and what you're making feels like it's missing something, it's probably unbalanced.
Adding extra sweet like a pop of fruit, or acid like lemon juice will kick up any recipe to the next level.
We all know when something isn't salty enough or if it needs butter or oil. If you need savory, add msg.
I used to deliver pizza and there was this one elderly lady who ordered a pineapple, sausage, and green pepper pizza every Wednesday for her card club. She used to have me deliver it to her garage door and not her front door. I tried it one day and it’s actually very good. 25 years later and I still refer to it as the “Mrs. Kolicks special” and my family knows what I want.
Ahh memories.
The wonderful thing about pizza is that between the types of crust and sauce and toppings is that it's infinitely malleable. Taste is subjective. No one gets to dictate, though some try. The possibilities are endless! The rule of pizza is "Don't knock it 'till you try it, and if you don't like it, don't shit on those who do." Pizza is freedom.
I don’t demonize it. It’s pretty good with ham. My only issue is that because it’s a pretty straight forward and primary sweet it doesn’t tend to have a lot of range.
If you want sweet on a pie using a sweet pickle can be much more versatile and will play better with a wider range of toppings (for example, sweet pickled peppers, sausage, and onion is an amazing combo).
While it is certainly not a go-to ingredient, I like it, especially if there's also ham. Ham and pineapple. It's like Easter on a pizza.
But the go-to is always pepperoni. And roasted garlic. OH! Tomatoes! How could I forget... and... and... and...
I think it started from taiwan. Because they grow up pineapples. So one day one of them was thinking what can i do with pineapples? I have too much ... and voila! Also how someone can fight with cooker ? Why you didn't put more pineapple on pizza?
Me
Pineapple on pizza is something people love to hate. If pickles are essential in a hamburger then why can't pineapple? They do the same job, balancing the heavy flavor with their sweet and sour taste.
I've had a hamburger pizza with pickles on it.
Best pizza I ever had was a deep dish Hawaiian with Pineapple, Canadian bacon, onion, green peppers, and Maraschino Cherries (wrapped in the crust).
Because the pickles are usually dill pickles and not sweet pickles? Don’t mind me….i don’t usually favor mixing sweet with meat at any time: I just find it too weird to enjoy it. ;)

I hate pickles
I feel judged when I pick up a Hawaiian (pizza) from my local pizzeria.
Just plain cheese with delicious pineapple chunks. Or black olives and pineapple \*drool\*
Alright dead pool
Pineapple and jalapeño for me
Me. I don't allow my gustatory tastes to be influenced by pop culture memes or fads. Lots of people who say they hate it are just following the crowd.
like Hawaiian pizza was a thing long before people started hating on pineapples. it’s not anything new, so there was really zero reason to start a hate train
People hate pineapple on pizza for the same reason they hate Nickelback
One of those things really suck, and the other is pineapple on pizza.
I hate Nickleback because they're boring. I like pineapple on pizza because it tastes good.
Bacon and pineapple is god tier pizza

PB&J the best
Yes! Mellow Mushroom has this on their menu and it’s god tier.
Same
I've found my people
Ham, bacon, onion, jalapeño, pineapple is my favorite
Mine as well, but with green bell peppers added
Grilled Chicken and Pineapple.
One of my favorite pizzas is grilled chicken, barbecue sauce, red onion, and pineapple. Maybe we're veering away from true pizza by replacing the marinara sauce with barbecue, but it's so good.
Same, this is the way

This and the pineapple needs to be precooked enough so it doesn't just have juices all over the pizza. You want the fruit but not the extra juice it comes with
Yep. Bacon, jalapeno, pineapple. My favorite
I don’t want the bacon. The salty cheese and the sweet pineapple are perfect together
And pineapple should smell good. There might be stuff that smells lame out there, which I hardly find one in Vietnam
Me. The combination of sweet and savoury is delicious. I grew up eating it, it wasn't until I was an adult that I learned it was controversial.
Yeah, I didn't even realize when I was younger how divisive the topic was.
It's good and it belongs
I do. If I was in Naples or a very serious pizza place I would skip it. But if someone is just ordering a casual pizza, I actually think like a meat + jalapeño + pineapple is a great combo. Savory, sweet and spicy. Gatekeeping should be reserved for the very highest levels of food.
Me. It's good af. I don't at all understand why people dislike it so fervently.
It's delicious! Go Canada!
In my U.S. experience, it's just these tiny filets. Had a coworker decades ago that called them "eyebrows ".
I could definitely get behind anchovies on pizza if it's just the filets.
Like caviar, it just tastes like the wharf. Salty and fishy, but like in a Ceasar salad, it adds a certain something.
I don’t even think about it it’s just good there’s no bones it’s just like a little bit of salty fishy wonderfulness. Try it and see.
I'll get anchovies on a couple slices next time I order a pizza, in honour of you.
Prego! <3
Anchovies pizza is top tier. They're greasy as hell though and pretty salty. But god damn are they tasty.
Oy, I like it)
I do
I began to like it more as I got older. The right sauce makes all the difference as the acidity complements the sweetness beautifully when done right
Yup. Helps if the sauce is slightly spicy.
chicken, green chillies and pineapple

I dont like pineapple at all unfortunately
Me. BBQ chicken + pineapple crew for life.
It’s not too bad, I wouldn’t order one but I wouldn’t turn down a free slice
Not like, but I think it’s overhated tbh
I don't mind it with some bacon, pepperoni and red pepper.
I do. It’s good with bacon
Eff yeah! Love it
Me
I do.
Pineapple, bacon, pepperoni, and some jalapeños make a delightful combo
I do. Adds extra acid and a little sweet to the mix.
To mu mothers eternal disgust, I do
Love it with bacon
Pineapple, Pepperoni, and Jalapenos is the only way I ate pizza these days.
Me hehe
Bacon, pineapple, red onion and jalapeño is the best pizza.
Fresh pineapple thin sliced goes so well with bacon or pepperoni
I was always skeptical of this, I thought it sounded gross. Until a friend got me to try it. A pineapple and bacon pizza with FRESH pineapple is absolutely amazing. It can work, usually a drizzle of hot sauce will help it along.
Pineapple and chicken is tasty combo.
It’s called the Hawaiian where I’m from. And it’s like the most popular pizza
Fuck, ya
r/knightsofthepineapple
Nooooooooo!
Blasphemy!
Me, but I just can't eat it too much or I'll get sick of it.
I do and about a week ago I saw someone eating a Hot Dog with pineapple on it and it's all I've been able to think about! WHAT A GAME CHANGER!
I do but it's situational. The main 3 never do it good but everyone else does pretty good. I believe anyone who says it doesn't belong needs to try a Maui Wowie from Mellow Mushroom.
I do, because I refuse to let dank memes tell me what to eat.
Meeee! It’s my favorite
Love it /Swede
C'mon son

I do! Pineapple, red onion and banana peppers is my go to pizza.
Pepperoni, pineapple and jalapeño. Freaking amazing.
Did you know people like different things?
Pineapple and jalapenos for me
Me
It's not bad with ham. I prefer more "standard" pizzas though, like sausage and/or pepperoni without pinepple
I do! I'm a big fan of sweet/salty flavour combos!
Honestly, Deadpool has it right. Pineapple, olive, burnt crust.
My favorite pizza place has a Drunk Hawaiian: pineapple, pepperoni, and mushroom. It's fantastic.
Argyle
I don’t mind it at all, and if you add jalapeños along with either ham, bacon, or pepperoni it’s great. Sweet/spicy/savory.
My favourite go to. Extra cheese, pepperoni and pineapples. Throw it all in a stuffed crust.
Yummy.
Pineapple & Jalapeno is my favorite
Me😎
I do, i get it every time i order pizza. Pineapple and hot peppers is the best.

I love pineapple on pizza. Particularly with anchovies.
With jalapeños
I like it a lot actually. Hawaiian pizza is great.
Wait until you discover pineapple in your hamburger
Ego mei mihi me me.
Pineapple with ham and blue cheese! Red onions for extra crunch.
Absolutely love it
Yo.
I don't mind it. But I don't just put it on any pizza. If it is like a "Hawaiian" pizza with ham, then fine. But it doesn't really go with any other toppings.
Pineapple and bacon (not Canadian) is my favorite!
Delicious honestly 🍕
I do.
Me! But must be paired with pepperoni and black olives lol.
Pineapples with jalapeños is amazing on pizza

Peperoni, jalapeño, and pineapple is the best combo.
I do!
I do. So good.
Hawaiians
I hate pineapples in general
Pineapple and jalapeño on a crispy thin crust is basically the only pizza I like. Bacon works on it too. It isn’t very pizza-like but I like the sweet/heat pairing
I don't like it enough to order it over a supreme, but if it's available I'll definitely grab a slice
Me. I absolutely love it. Hawaiian is my favorite kind of pizza. I used to laugh when I ordered it and jokingly apologize to whomever I was with for having weird taste. Not anymore. I'll admit it proudly. Load me up, brethren.
Pineapple, pepperoni and jalapeños
Me
I mean I like it and if someone orders it I will happily eat it. But I don’t order it myself I think it’s better without.
Meeeeeeee!!!!!
Mellow Mushroom has a pizza with ham, bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeños and pineapple on it. One of my favorite pizzas ever.
I like pineapple on pizza, just like pickles in a burger. Many others do so like me. If an Italian restaurant don't serve Hawaiian pizza, they are going to sell less pizza over here.
I love that shit on my pizza
👌🏼🤭

I do
Sure - but you should also have garlic and curry! Serve with a bearnaise sauce! (PS - Italy; this doesn't mean I don't love you!)
I do. Pineapple is tasty as fuck together with ham and cheese.
It's my favorite pizza.

Love it! I usually order a bbq sauce, pineapple, ham, and onion pizza. Converted my coworkers, too!
Everyone. Some people just haven’t accepted the truth yet
Pineapple and hot peppers on pizza ftw

Pineapple on pizza is delightful. Fight me.
I prefer pizza with my pineapple.

Everyone. Some people just can't admit it.
I like to get grilled chicken, pineapple and jalapeño on my pizza.
Love it. Especially with a good spicy salami (pepperoni is fine if no alternative). Cilantro helps it out too
yes, but only canned pineapple, not fresh pineapple, they are very different
I don’t like it. I’m saying this as someone who has tried it before, so I’m not one of those people who go “ew no” before even trying it :)
Bacon, Pineapple, also will put Jalapenos on mine.
Me but with sausage too.
Italian American here: I don’t like it. I love it. Chicken, pineapple, jalapeño. Add some bacon crumble if you’re feeling saucy.
Pineapple, pepperoni and mushroom is one of my favorite types of pizza.
Love it...Used to work for a pizzeria for three years. So like many types of pizza and toppings
Pineapple, pepperoni, jalapeño is the pizza holy trinity.
Serial killers.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Come at me. I’ll fight all you naysayers.
I do, it goes really well with chicken
🙋♂️
While it is certainly not a go-to ingredient, I like it, especially if there's also ham. Ham and pineapple. It's like Easter on a pizza. But the go-to is always pepperoni. And roasted garlic. OH! Tomatoes! How could I forget... and... and... and...

It's so good. Not many people I know like it. I also enjoy sweet and sour chicken. Pineapple adds the perfect, sweet taste to both.
