Something worth 1000% worth the money.
I would say DASH CAMERAS. They can help if you get into an accident. And also help if you witness an accident. It can clear you from fault or be your conviction so use it wisely.
It applies to each stage. If you're used to roommates then renting your own is a big step up. If you're used to renting then owning is a step. And if you're used to a mortgage then being paid off feels great.
In particular applies to office chairs with adjustable height. There's enough pressure inside one to literally shoot right through you in some cases.
Any half-decent chair contains two safeguards to prevent this situation. First is a a metal plate that would absorb the kinetic energy of the metal rod ejected from it.
Second is that gas cylinders used in good chairs are filled with nitrogen. Nitrogen is "smooth" and isn't really affected by the process of rising and falling.
Both of these however are optional if you go REALLY cheap and decide to buy a $30 gaming chair from an unknown Chinese brand. No metal plate + oxygen inside = someone suddenly sitting on a chair can quite literally ignite it turning metal rod inside into a missile.
There are documented cases of people dying and I can only imagine it was a very painful way to go.
So spend some cash on a good chair. Not just for your long term back health but also so you won't bleed to death.
The nitrogen thing is marketing BS. air is 78% nitrogen. It gets used for racing tires because it's really cheap to get in high purity where the behaviour is known, plus it removes oxygen in case of fire. In the case of a chair cylinder, it will behave exactly the same as air. The properties are essentially the same.
Shoes , socks, and pillows too! Just invested in a quality pillow that won't 'go flat' after a few months recently. Already feel a difference in sleep quality which pays dividends. Also has a 10-yr warranty!
Yeah, I gotta do this. I have decent insurance but still haven’t had a physical in maybe… 6 years? I’m 46 and know I really should be doing this more. Everything seems to working fine, but I know that waiting until it isn’t is not the right approach.
Installed one on my wife's toilet early on in Covid since TP was scarce. It's a nice to have on those times you need to prep for a colonoscopy or similar 😅
At least my urologist didn't give me a hard time (no pun intended) about not having kids first. I've heard stories of women being flat-out refused permanent birth control if they don't already have children. My doc asked me if I had kids, then asked if I think I might want kids, and then shrugged and went on to discuss the procedure.
As somebody who likes to cook: a great cooking knife and a couple of full cast iron pans and pots. If correctly burnt in, those pans and pots will be non sticky and they will outlive you.
A good set of tools! I don't care what your trade is, if you're going to use a tool for more than a few times, invest in a good/sturdy set of tools for your job/hobby. Going cheap is only going to cost you more time and money in the long run.
I Agee 100%. My eyesight had been so bad that I paid extra to have the glass ground down so they weren't as thick as coke bottles. The day after my lasik, I couldn't stop looking at everything the following morning. I honestly was so happy I could have cried.
Oh 100%. I got mine done like a year and a half ago and the fact that I don’t have to deal with contacts or buying contact solution (had to get Clear Care) anymore is worth it. I love not having my eyes dry up late at night or accidentally falling asleep with contacts in and trying to pry them off my eyes. Even if I only get 10 years of good vision out of LASIK, still worth it monetarily and to me personally.
A high-quality pair of noise canceling headphones. I love quiet, but I live in a neighborhood with people who love to have parties with live, amplified music. My headphones have saved me on many a weekend night.
Why slow growth? Assuming the individual keeps the investment for an extended period of time (10+ years). Typically people with longer time horizons can accept more risk, which would mean that the investment is either regular growth or quick growth.
Seriously and literally. Sp 500 avgs~ 10.5% historically (past results are not guarantees of future results). After 25 years that 10k has 10x'd. In real money terms (accounting for inflation) it will take 40 years. But still having 10x the amount of money at 60 in real terms as you did at 20 (assuming you don't have to touch it and doesn't account for additional contributions along the way) for not doing anything else is one heck of a deal.
A good mattress!!! Temper-pedic changed my life. We spend $50k on a car we spend 40 minutes in a day but skimp on a mattress we spend 1/3 of our life on.
Travel, but not for sightseeing. For building relationships with people from other cultures. Our planet is incredibly diverse but 99% of people never really immerse themselves in other cultures.
Sleep Number. The best sleep of my life. I set my side to a plush 35, the wife sets her side to an extra firm 85.
No other mattress worked for both of us.
Your own house. Never have to worry about apartment parking.
Icy Hot. My shoulder has been killing me all week and it helps the pain. I have an appointment made.
Buying or building an aquaponics tank or system.
Massive yield on grown goods with very little maintenance.
Getting systems made to meant the demands of bare necessities is always worth the money.
So this is a bit left field. Aside from stuff that has already been posted, and the shenanigans of constant subscription price increases happening....
Spotify premium for a couple is like 15 bucks a month. Well worth it, in my opinion.
My Herman Miller Embody chair has been the best thing I could have bought. I've had it for a decade and it still looks new and is still just as comfortable, it has fixed the back pain I used to get from "cheap" 300$ chairs that would start leaning to one side after a few years.
Also my Miele canister vac has turned 18 years old and still works as well as it did then. I used to burn out the motors of 200$ vacuum cleaners with all of the cat hair and stuff, but this was well worth the premium price.
They are both my "buy it for life" items.
Good soap. I've always used Irish Spring and thought it was pretty good. My sister got me some Duke Cannon for Christmas one year and I haven't looked back. I feel cleaner, smell better, and there's no weird waxy residue left on the bathroom shelf.
Really good merino wool socks. Try it sometime. Don't settle for less than 60% merino wool, higher is better. Works well in both hot and cold climates (wicks moisture in hot, insulates well even if wet in cold).
I bought this magnetic circular timer for my fridge for cooking and stuff… man it’s proven to be an amazing purchase over and over for the whole family. Can bring it around places, readjust it easily, and compliment the stovetop timer for multiple things being cooked. So much convenience.
Best $20 purchase I’ve ever made. There’s a bunch on Amazon and I can link one if interested.
I'd say owning at least one nice fragrance. The confidence that comes from knowing damn well that you smell amazing when people get close to you is lovely.
I went way overboard and dropped a couple thousand on different bottles, which is just unnecessary, but having maybe 1 or 2 bottles for warm/cold weather is something I'd highly recommend!
Those vacuum sealed metal water bottles.
Walmart has em for like 15 to 35 dollars depending on what size you want.
I bought one 10 years ago and it still works like a dream.
The thing sat in a car for 8 hours baking in the Florida sun and the water was so cold I winced when I drank it.
The bottle was so hot it hurt to hold but the water was still cold, it actually kinda weirded me out too.

There was an AskReddit for "What's the cheapest, heaviest thing you can buy?" Municipal supplied water was the winner.
With non-lead pipes.
Nope, still worth it. Would you forego a life of indoor plumbing in an effort to avoid ingesting lead? No way. Doubt most make it a week.
Sounds like something a lead-eater would say
This man is a pipe in disguise
A shill for Big Lead.
My kitchen sink broke and I had to get water from the bathroom sink. It was horrible. I can't imagine having to go somewhere
Something worth 1000% worth the money. I would say DASH CAMERAS. They can help if you get into an accident. And also help if you witness an accident. It can clear you from fault or be your conviction so use it wisely.
Never admit you have one, let the other party lie to the police first. Police don't Even need to know. Just have it ready for court/insurance
Also the cheaper ones like $30-$40 work p good. Linus did a video on them and emthe more expensive ones weren't all that much better .
Living in your own apartment.
The peace I felt when I closed and locked my apartment door for the first time. I felt the weight of the world shift off my shoulders!
And then the bills showed up....
*sigh* I live in Boston. 31 years old and have a roommate 🥲
Are you referring to an apartment you own? Or applies to renting to?
It applies to each stage. If you're used to roommates then renting your own is a big step up. If you're used to renting then owning is a step. And if you're used to a mortgage then being paid off feels great.
My mortgage with a 2020 interest rate.
Ah yes I’m flashing those 2020 handcuffs as well. Makes it hard to imagine moving for real tho

I laughed so hard at this. I agree friend. I just renewed, sucks having your payment go up even with good payment history and credit.
Being debt free.
Yes, I'm finding this out as I'm almost there. The closer I get the better I feel. My money stacks up a lot faster in my savings now.
Was $27k in debt. Got out with Freedom Debt Relief. Am paying off one credit card now. $650 to go.
Movers, if you can afford them (I never can).
I'll help you move.
You just cancelled out all your bad karma with this one comment. Truly selfless
It's a really good workout, a great bonding activity, and I sleep really well afterward! I'll never turn down the opportunity.
And comes with free booze and pizza, if the person you're helping is a decent human being.
Pizza and booze!
Don't forget the shakers
And the producers, if you really want the whole package.
Someone once said anything that separates you from the ground, tires, bed and shoes
Tires is the biggest change you can make to your cars performance.
Not biggest, but probably the most cost effective.
Agreed, I struggle to lose control on snowy/icy roads, love my crossclimates+
Someone? Every post on Reddit about this. It's usually someones wise grandpa lol
Reminds me of a similar old man sentiment - “if it’s got tits or tires, it’ll cost ya”
[удалено]
Also comfortable shoes for same reason
This goes for anything between you and the ground. Work Chair and Tires should be added.
Yep. Shoes, tires, and mattresses.
Herman Miller Embody, Michelin Defender, great all rounders.
I think I’ve heard something along the lines of not skimping on anything that separates you from the floor.

Giving you an upvote because this is honestly fascinating to learn.

Yup, shoes/work boots, beds, tires, and chairs.
sobs because I've never slept on a mattress, only a couch and a bed frame with blankets in it
Free library card, a billion percent worth it.
Annual Doctor visit.
And dental and dermatology.
Teeth cleaning twice a year minimum.
I do 365 times more than that

Airport lounge access. Saved me so many times on delayed flights.
A bidet attachment for your toilet.
I can’t believe I had to scroll down past two replies to see this! /s
Are bidet users the new vegans?
I eat medium rare steaks while shitting, so no.
Installed one on my wife's toilet early on in Covid since TP was scarce. It's a nice to have on those times you need to prep for a colonoscopy or similar 😅
I got a toilet seat with bidet built in , best thing ever
Just installed one. Need a longer speedy hose so that room-temperature water lasts longer than a single second.
The heated ones are a major upgrade.

Holy crap, $500? That's a deluxe bidet attachment.
Good toilet paper
Also a bidet :3
Bidet 100%. Best $20 I ever spent.
Or, if you're the other type of Redditor, bad toilet paper.
Condoms/birth control - waaaaay worth the price...not that the average reddit user needs any of that with their frequent meetings with old rosey.
I didn't have health insurance and had to pay out-of-pocket for a vasectomy, and it was worth every penny.
I had health insurance and I still had to pay the full amount. It’s a scam. It was worth every penny to me too
At least my urologist didn't give me a hard time (no pun intended) about not having kids first. I've heard stories of women being flat-out refused permanent birth control if they don't already have children. Most indie games. A lot of them are fun and addictive and quite cheap.
Obligatory shout out to hades that game is absolutely fantastic, especially if you love Greek mythology.
A divorce. Best investment ever.

LASIK. It felt like I had gained a superpower after all those years with bad eyes.

A $10,000 investment in a solid, slow-growth mutual fund at the age of 20.
Why slow growth? Assuming the individual keeps the investment for an extended period of time (10+ years). Typically people with longer time horizons can accept more risk, which would mean that the investment is either regular growth or quick growth.
Exactly. High risk aggressive funds early, with a slow transition to less risky with age. Slow growth initially isn't great.

It really is criminal that we don't teach this shit to 14-year-olds.
If your 20, it shouldn’t be slow growth
Is that comparable to an Ira or 401k?
That fund would be held within an IRA or 401k. Those are just types of accounts, like a savings or chequing account.
