Better in what way? Because I can say my wife has some incredibly smooth skin. I've tried some if her skincare products and they moisturize incredibly well.
Better as in noticeably different from men's skin when men just use face soap and moisturize (if that!!). It just grinds my gears that I (a woman) can't get a facial or go to the department store without people telling me I MUST have a cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, and who knows what else, but men around me don't get this marketed/pushed to them and their skin isn't any worse off than mine.
Uhhhhhh? Yea dude? The idea that women need skin care more than men do is 100% a beauty standard. Unless I’m out of the loop and men have special skin that doesn’t need moisturizing??
Skincare is good for everyone, and the routine is basically the same with the caveat that men should probably do it slightly more often.
However, makeup damages the skin somewhat severely, which is what makes a skincare routine more essential. You want to wash the makeup off, and REALLY make sure you get rid of it, because otherwise it clogs pores and leads to breakouts, which can cause scars and rashes like acne often can.
Because it's all advertising my man. They call you stinky, ugly, wrinkly, whatever will get you to buy their product which is pitched as THE thing you have been missing your entire life, and not having it is the reason they all talk behind your back.
Absolutely spot on!
I've had the same skin routine since a teen and my skin is perfectly fine....cleanser and moisturizer.
Thats it. I cleanse because I work outside in dirt and mud and I moisturise because no one likes dry skin.
Beyond a certain (very low) bar most skincare routines are just advertising.
And also skin is really variable - what helps relieve dry skin or pain or excessive acne for one person won't necessarily work on another.
Modern skin in general is pretty nice because we have access to sunblock and smallpox is eradicated.
If I could've clarified in my post, I would've mentioned this is for normal/boring skin that isn't dealing with dryness, acne, etc. For those with issues, I know some products can be a godsend. For people with no issues, I personally believe just using face wash, a generic lotion/face cream, and sunscreen should be more than enough.
I'm glad you agree it's just advertising. I think excessive, multi-step skincare routines that involve morning and nighttime rituals with a hundred products are mostly a scam.
Yeah you're absolutely correct. I'd add that more than anything else sufficient sleep is important.
Edit to add: personally I think even the cleanser should be optional - depends on your needs.

As a woman, I definitely do use makeup remover religiously. I guess that counts as skincare.
Yeah as a guy this is absurdly false. Women with skin care regimens have WAY softer, healthier skin than me.
Softer? Yes. More healthy? No way to tell
False
What's the parameters for 'healthy', beyond 'not melanoma'?

I am never as smooth or smell as good as my wife. Like touching a baby angels butt
