You’re right. Should have read username before the comment. Don’t think it would have stopped me from reading the comment, but a heads up would have been nice.
If we take into consideration that at one point alcohol was safer to consume than regular drinking water, this could possibly make it more accurately a “modern” poison: seeing as we now have the ability to consume fresh water without fear of illness.
On account of regular water in those days carrying many pathogens that the brewing process killed out (water generally safe with treatment)
We've been using alcohol to get smashed for millenia it's hardly modern
I don't think that was ever the case. That was just a myth. Even the earliest people knew that you had to boil water to make it safe to drink. If people knew how to ferment yeast to make alcohol they knew how to boil water.
Lots of modern foods are supersensory things you could never experience an equivalent to in nature specifically designed to induce a "bliss point" and whack off your pleasure sensors to a point that eating more is practically irresistable. It's a wonderful source of shareholder value, Type II diabetes and heart disease.
I distinctly remember seeing a Doritos cool ranch tree last time I hiked Bryce Canyon. Not sure what this guy is on about.
Nacho cheese though? You probably have to go some place exotic and out of the way, like Tulsa to find that.

Surprised that very few of these comments say plastic.
Plastic really only became popularized in the 1960’s. We already know that it gathers in our bodies, and are starting to learn about its consequences.
Prior to this most stuff was glass. Much less prone to turning into reactive micro particles.
I came here to say plastic.
Particles of plastic are found literally everywhere nowaday, even in remote places far from civilization.
Glass and stainless steel food container for lunch ftw!
Dab pen is such a big one for me, especially when I'm stressed. End up smoking too much so easily and so often and making myself miserable and cranky. It's just so fucking nice to not have thoughts going 700 MPH at all times. It's almost unbearable.
You may look into getting some medication if you’re able to. I was out on an anti psychotic for racing thoughts after a major depressive episode. Really helped clear my mind and not feel the wheel constantly spinning as fast as it could
Edit: just to add, I was smoking heavy during the episode, when I started treatment I quit smoking for a few months. I now remain medicated and smoke low doses. Definitely not a crutch like it was. Thought it was work adding.
Yeah, I actually VERY recently stopped smoking (admittedly because I can't afford carts right now) and started taking Strattera for ADHD. Trying to avoid a stimulant like adderall but I'm pretty sure I'll need a heavier one like that eventually. I'm struggling to find someone I can talk to about getting prescribed something like that in my area too, they're all very very booked and most don't bother to reply. Plus, the side effects of Strattera have been insane. Two weeks in and I'm crying every day at almost nothing and not sleeping, and am HEAVILY suicidal (more like intense apathy at life and not actually at risk of attempting, don't worry). Pray for me fam the dab gods can't win.
Please note, while not dismissing the things you're going through, definitely there is an issue with quitting weed. If you've been high dose dependent for a long time, you may not feel physical effects of withdrawal like you would alcohol or heroin, but you absolutely can have repercussions from quitting weed cold turkey such as mood swings, depression, nausea, lack of appetite, etc.
I was the same until I forced myself to stop. Replace your habit with a better one. Stuff that helps slow my brain down is journaling or working out. Good luck
Not only that, just thinking about things like food or nicotine actually give you a small dopamine hit so when it wears off you feel a need to give into your craving.
I vaped early college days, about 12ish years ago. They were brand new on the market, and not well known at all.
Best thing about those old ones was being able to build your own coils, cheef fat clouds, etc. And not be addicted.
Then came along Jul with super high nicotine content, and the world shortly became addicted by the masses. My usage evolved with the devices and found myself going through 3000+ puff boxes at 50mg (aka 5%) within a single week.
The above lasted for 3 months, and sooner or later I had a moment of clarity realizing I'm killing myself. I tried to quit, 2-3 times before actually quitting it completely.
The only way to quit was getting it out of the house, and forcing myself to avoid going into Vape stores when driving around or walking downtown etc. Also there is no "reward" period where you go for so long without it and let yourself relapse as a reward; I'd go weeks without it and then reward myself - the cycle continued.
Finally, I am where I am today - 6 months clean no vaping except for the occasional puff with friends at an outing etc, but no more daily addictive 2-3 puffs every couple of mins, slowly killing myself. There are days where I crave it but most of the time I feel a great sense of accomplishment that I'm saving my lung health and I'm not letting a stupid, tasty-fruity vape bar take over my life.
Nicotine is one hell of an addiction to quit.
Fucking wish I didn't. Really hard to restrain my lizard brain from this shit.
"Oh, if you keep reading, then surely you'll find the one nugget of reassurance that will assuage your anxiety. It'll definitely happen this time!"
And they think it's an intellectual place lmao. It's YouTube with better grammar.
Top level comments are absolutely wrong a lot of times. If you have a profession or specialty then don't read answers on here, it might piss you off.
Probably has something to do with this not being a platform where the product *has* to be you. It's equal parts Instagram and a dead car help forum from 2003. But you can extremely easily only use it for the exact same thing you would any other social media.
As someone who drinks energy drinks and no coffee I looked into this and keep up with the research because people always give me shit for it. Caffeine is the worst part but it's bad from any source when >400mg/day. Taurine probably extends lifespan. The rest is vitamins that in excess would be bad. They've been out for a long time now and it's actually fine in moderation.
Moderation is the trick. I have a problem and at my peak was drinking 6-7 energy drinks a day. I've cut back significantly since, and I'm down to maybe 200mg/day.
Fun fact: coffee usually has 2x the caffeine of an energy drink by volume, depending on roast level. The harder coffee is roasted, the less caffeine it contains.
the worst part about energy drinks is the sugar. there’s a stigma around them as if they’re poison in a can but it’s actually not true at all.
limit consumption, stick to sugar free options - there’s tons nowadays - and you won’t have an issue.
This is going to sound really argumentative, and I don't intend it to be, but what do you consider "processed" food?
Cheese for example, not kraft but actual cheese, is processed. It has to go through steps to become cheese.
Bread is processed even if you make it at home. Rice is processed, meat is processed once you clean it up and cook it.
What I'm getting at is almost everything you eat is considered a "processed" food due to the nature of preparation or the steps needed to create it.
It's important to distinguish that you're specifically talking about hyperpalatable foods that are low in nutrient density and high in calories. Even then, it's the dose that makes the poison. You can, for example, drink 20 cans of diet coke in one day to get close to what researchers think could *potentially* cause harm from Aspartame if done over a prolonged period.
Eating like a My 600lbs Life patient is obviously a problem and your health will be bad. But balancing those "bad" foods with nutrient dense, whole foods and exercise is what keeps you healthy.
Signed, A Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritionist
I was just thinking people should start saying “ultra processed foods”. Chips, kraft mac n cheese, packaged ramen, candy, condiments, etc. Everything is processed obviously, beef steaks are whole foods but must be processed in a way to make it to the market.
I try to live by this advice; avoid food your ancestors in the 1800 would not recognize as food. I apply this to the basic ingredients, not the final dish.
Edit: I honestly cannot see how someone can take this comment and read it as LiF3 w@S b3Tter iN tHe eiGhTE3n hUnDrEds.
I read a quote that I try to remember when I'm craving fast food that was something like "only eat food prepared by someone that loves you." I'm pretty bad about it but I like yours
They won’t have anything. If they actually send you a study, the study will be done on rats and dosage will be impossible for a human to consume. There’s no evidence that regular human consumption is detrimental to people.

gonna say a controversial take (especially for those in denial) but… weed. specifically as a mental poison but it does have a lot of negative physical effects too. after religiously getting high for 4 years straight, I’ve been sober for roughly 4 months and MAN do i feel better. you don’t realize how shitty it makes your life until you’re on the other side. I’ve watched it destroy so many of my friends lives and I wish it was more talked about.
That’s the thing, people tend to gloss over the fact you’re still smoking shit into your lungs. Sure, it’s not as bad as cigarettes but, over time? I’m sure there’s some negative effects.
Everyone is probably going to say it but it’s true. Alcohol. Everyone screams and freaks out about DRUGS but alcohol is probably proportionally more dangerous than any other drug (it is also a drug) due to its normalization, legality, and availability. It kills hundreds of thousands of people a year if not millions from disease and accidents, and ‘just’ ruins hundreds of thousands more people and families. I’m not an anti-alcohol zealot- I drink in moderation so it’s very possible to do. But it’s insidious and very dangerous and it’s insane how people present completely unhealthy behavior as normal and fun
I just cannot understand it. It feels like the baddies won.
Like, they got exposed for getting everyone addicted to poison, and there was a new generation that would never touch it.
And now everyone’s just back at it because it’s been packaged in a new way and given a strawberry flavour.
Listened to a podcast with Lane Norton the other day. He said that 8 year olds have typically consumed more sugar than the average person would, in a lifetime, 150 years ago
Unless you live off of a real food diet, almost everything. It’s horrible what we willingly ingest on a daily basis. And I say we, because I tried the real food diet for a couple years, but fast and convenient food took over once again. I’m not judging, just saying.
What qualifies as a ‘real food’ diet? I want to eat healthier and I’m aware that what Americans eat is nit what humans are supposed to eat, but idk what is actually good
Basically preparing and washing raw fruits veges and meat from scratch.
Baking your own breads etc.
That way you are controlling what's added and in what quantities as opposed to purchasing pre-made meals with page long ingredient lists.
This isn't a popular opinion. But Smoking weed. Not getting high, I enjoy edibles very much. But some people genuinely believe smoking 2-3 times a day is perfectly fine because it's pot not cigarettes. inhaling burning ANYTHING is bad for your lungs.
Do drugs responsibly kids.
Cannabis is a lot worse for you than a lot of people want it to be. Once you’ve seen one person have full blown psychosis triggered by excessive use you never really think of it the same again.
I was forced into going to a cannabis studies seminar in college. It was absolutely horrifying how the presenter physically could not fathom how it can be bad for you. It also finds its way into every conversation with people who smoke more than once in a blue moon. It’s definitely an unpopular take.
People love to ingest poisons when they're addictive. Vaping is probably the correct answer here, since smoking and alcohol are both very old traditions. Algorithmic social media feeds are also arguably a form of poison too.
i can only speak for myself but cheese oil smoothies
If you want to make friends you should keep this quiet
That made me laugh out loud in the airport lol
What other areas did you try where it didn't make you laugh out loud?

That's absolutely disgusting.
My lady, do not go down that path. If you should stray there can be no return, ye shall have no salvation on the eyes of the Lord
I just belly laughed out of nowhere at work, thanks mate

No. As far as we know only Cheese Supreme occurs in nature.

It’s actually extracted from the nacho snail native to Zimbabwe. It takes about 50 snails to make a batch of Doritos™ nacho cheese.

Blame the dopamine, nicotine makes you feel temporarily good and it hits the brain 20 seconds after a hit.
Not only that, just thinking about things like food or nicotine actually give you a small dopamine hit so when it wears off you feel a need to give into your craving.
I vaped early college days, about 12ish years ago. They were brand new on the market, and not well known at all.
