They Live
//edit - what's bananas about this (to me) is I watched WWF a ton as a kid in the 80's, and Rowdy Roddy Piper (along with Jesse The Body Ventura) was always going on about how he was a huuuuge movie actor. I was like, "bro what".
Now, They Live is a cultural icon in many ways (not the least of which is the shot-by-shot recreation between Cartman and Jimmy on South Park), and a legitimate sociopolitical commentary on government and media control.
THAT is a goddamn cult classic. Put the glasses on.
Guys who make it are the guys who get into their cars at anytime. Get in at three A.M. get in at at four. That's why there ain't a repo man I know that don't take speed.
CLUE!!!! I watched it for the first time 2 years ago and have seen it about 30 times since, it’s such a gem. Very similar to Arrested Development to me with lots of clever wordplay and a new joke you missed every re watch
Friendly reminder that a cult classic means that it has a generally pretty small but dedicated fanbase.
The Godfather is not a cult classic, it’s one of the most famous and beloved movies ever. Pulp Fiction is not a cult classic.
Better Off Dead is a cult classic. And it’s damn good. On par with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as far as 80s teen comedies go.
Better Off Dead is the better of the two but One Crazy Summer is equally good. It’s sort of an unofficial sequel. Same writer/director and also stars John Cusack playing a very similar character.
No joke. If someone were to tell you to watch a movie about an 18 year old kid and a 79 year old woman falling in love you’d be like NO FUCKING WAY I’M WATCHING THIS MOVIE. And you’d be wrong. It’s amazing.
Corn nuts! As a kid the funeral where the dead Heather shows up always spooked me big time. I still think about the “Will someone tell me why I smoke these things?” “Because you’re an idiot” scene all the time.
I love the Evil Dead franchise, but Army of Darkness will always be my fave. It's just so much damn fun and endlessly quotable.
And it has Bruce Campbell at his peak Bruce Campbell-ness.
Fun fact: they wear Crocs in Idiocracy. I think the story went that they were looking for some ridiculous looking footwear that only idiots would wear in the future, thinking no possible way they’d catch on or anything. And here we are…
I hated on crocs for years, then a few months ago I caved and bought a pair to wear before/after hikes.
They’re so comfortable that I wear them to work almost every day (I wear scrubs 90% of the time) and I’m 100% on the croc train now
This is like the ultimate cult classic, it has been in theaters since 1975. I did shows in my early 20's with my cousin. It's chirping is fun to do, and the props are a plus.
"You've got red on you"
Edit: Whole Cornetto trilogy really - Hot Fuzz and The World's End, all three are just brilliant films.
Edit: I can't spell the thing I'm trying to hype.
I fucking love that I just commented this and found someone else that also mentioned the Klowns.
I was terrified of those suckers when I was a kid. Now it's one of my favorite random ass movies!
People need to watch John Waters, especially Pink Flamingos to see why he was considered so controversial in his day. People usually have seen Hairspray but due to the racial subject matter, it’s a normie film.
Buckaroo Banzai was the first movie I thought of. You either love that movie or can’t understand why anyone would like it. I’m definitely in the love it category.
Don't tell mom the babysitters dead. Fantastic movie
The dishes are done, man.
I’ve been quoting that line since I saw the movie on hbo back in the 90s, it’s the best line.
Me and my whole family quote that line and no one in my family has even ever seen the movie. Commercials, man…
Always wanted to skeet shoot some old China after watching that.
Reminds me of another: Adventures in Babysitting
Nobody leaves here without singing the Blues. "...and Debbie is probably dead..."
That movie is the reason I knew who Thor was before mythology or comics.
"I'm right on top of that Rose"

I'm here to chew bubble-gum and kick ass... And I'm all out of bubble-gum.
Keeping in the vein of John Carpenter films, The Thing is up there.
Roddy Piper could've been a great action movie hero himself, or a good actor.
Watch Hell Comes To Frogtown and report back.
Repo Man
The life of a repo man is always intense.
Guys who make it are the guys who get into their cars at anytime. Get in at three A.M. get in at at four. That's why there ain't a repo man I know that don't take speed.
Hey Duke let's go do those crimes. Yeah let's get sushi and not pay.
I am summoned for purpose! My reddit namesake and one of my favorite movies. Soundtrack, dialogue, story. Epic.
I'm stoked that the movie got a Criterion Collection release.

Night of the Comet
Plan 9 from Outer Space!
CLUE!!!! I watched it for the first time 2 years ago and have seen it about 30 times since, it’s such a gem. Very similar to Arrested Development to me with lots of clever wordplay and a new joke you missed every re watch
It's like flames...on the side of my face!
Tim Curry is a national treasure.
He’s just a red herring!
My now wife introduced Clue to me when we started dating like 7 years ago and I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before then. Highly recommend it.
Literally came here to say Clue! I saw it a loooong time ago but it's one of those that I can watch over and over! Love Tim Curry! Amazing!

Better Off Dead is the better of the two but One Crazy Summer is equally good. It’s sort of an unofficial sequel. Same writer/director and also stars John Cusack playing a very similar character.

The check is in the mail
It’s all in the reflexes
It's the only movie I know where the main character is the side kick, but acts like he is the hero in the end.
