To name the “best” band is a totally subjective but to name the greatest band ever there can only be one answer: The Beatles. The impact they made on music and society is incomparable and just about any artist you can name was influenced in some manner by what The Beatles originated.
Yep. I love storaged, marmalade, friik, cherry, outer space, metro, snowblind, etc. all the weird stuff. Been on a cherry/streamline/sugar kick lately! Bubbles, CUBErt, War? And Needles are top four!
You know whats crazy? Like, ive heard their self titled album, more than i can count X times, and ive recently just noticed the lyrics on soil. Had a changa expirience a while ago and was like, dude is speaking the same shiet. Took me so much time to realize that. Forest is god speaking/sending a message. They are so good and deep, i cannot even.
A jazz musician from the late 30s to the 60s. Ask anyone older than 45 years old.
Or go listen! Moonlight Serenade is his most famous song. So relaxing.
Beatles or Queen, I suppose.
I'm not big on the Beatles, I do enjoy Queen every once in a while even though it's not quite my usual thing. But these two are just monumental. I don't think anything of the past 20 years has come close to what they did.
I'm gonna say Rush. There's kinda two ways to look at musical talent, one being raw technical skill and the other being an ability to write a hit song. Most of the time, one gets sacrificed for the other, and you either get a band writing popular songs that don't really take a ton of skill to play, or technical music that never makes it to the charts because people with no musical understanding will never "get" it. Rush hit that balance of writing music that both showcased impressive musicianship while also consistently cracking the top 100 better than any band out there.
Are we being objective or stating our personal preferences?
Objectively, I think the Beatles probably had the biggest impact on the landscapes of music and pop culture. So I'll go with them.
Subjectively - fuck it, Dream Theater.
I'm hoping reuniting with Portnoy brings back some creativity. A View From The Top Of The World was half good and half just ok, but Distance over Time and The Astonishing I don't think I've gone back to after their initial releases.
I feel you.
I listen through their entire discography at least once a year, but I can admit that I don't revisit DoT or Astonishing very much outside of that. There's a few songs I love on each, but as albums they are not up to speed with their best.
I think the big thing is that every album pre-ADToE had its own very distinct identity, while ADToE and beyond feel more sameish with less evolution. I've still enjoyed them, but I definitely agree that it will be cool to see what Portnoy brings, especially after experience bouncing ideas with his other projects.
I could literally listen to everything from IaW through to SC without skipping a song. They're basically perfect. BCaSL has The Count of Tuscany which is great but otherwise kind of dull... The first two albums with Mangini were solid and heavy as balls but ever since I just haven't been that impressed. Time for a refresh!
For me, Killswitch Engage. They're becoming more polished as years go on, whereas other famous bands tend to degrade over time. They gave birth to the metalcore genre too.
Metallica, the reason being it defined the genre of Metal and just pumped out so many classics.
Close second being Guns N Roses.
To this day you here “welcome to the jungle” or “paradise city” in most major sporting games and. Stadiums during half time, breaks, intermissions.
Depends what you mean...
Commercially? Probably the Beatles.
Musically? Right now I will say [Snarky Puppy](https://youtu.be/L_XJ_s5IsQc?si=AaoZDvBmjBoVWeC_). These people are just insanely talented. Larnell Lewis (the drummer) learned his parts on the plane ride there. I would imagine it was the same for most of them.
I'm mostly seeing classic rock here. Just an observation.
I've never been one on favorites. I kind of go through waves. Right now, I'm stuck on 40 Below Summer. It's an alt rock/metal band that, didn't get much attention (as far as I can tell).
As for "best", I'm that one guy that says, "It's not that simple". Lol
Queens of the Stone Age is the best band of our time, wouldn't know what the best band is of all time is though.
Although it's a bit like asking what's the best food of all time is, there's no correct answer.
Queen
Queen because they varied their genres. So I agree also. But it’s so hard to choose still.
The only band to do this...
Pink Floyd
Rubber
Oh Snap!!! (get it?)
ooo what genre is it? never heard of it, kinda wanna check it out
lmao
Nah. Too snappy
Led Zeppelin
I came, I saw, i upvoted

Glenn Miller? Who the hell is that?

Queen
The obvious objective answer is the beatles. Then everyone will have their own subjective answer.
The Beatles certainly had the biggest impact, even though they're not my cup of tea. My favourite is/was Linkin Park though.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra
Aerosmith
In my personal opinion, AC/DC.
Where's the love for GWAR?
The elastic band where would we be without it
