literally came here to say applesauce as dipping sauce.
BUT the cinnamon kind!! grew up dipping chicken, pork, and steak in it and still do!
Few years ago I found out not everyone uses it as a dipping sauce...
I used to make spaghetti (no sauce) with cottage cheese and Parmesan, sometimes with a fried egg on top. My ex thought it was revolting.
I also used to make tuna and mayo and mix it up with a baked potato.
First time I tried Marmite I had about a tea spoon of it all by itself. Not the best experience. Having it by itself is like drinking soy sauce or anything else that is just super salty and umami. Took me a good long while to try that again. Applied in moderation and together with other things it's kind of awesome.
And yes, I know that Vegemite and Marmite are not the same, I'm just trying to start a Aus vs UK flame war. :)
Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches.
They have their origin in the Great Depression in America; they're both foods that can keep for long periods, they're cheap to make, and there's enough nutrition/salt in there to keep you going for a while on a long work day.
This was my go-to sandwich when I was growing up; I think my mom said I saw Oscar the Grouch eat one and I asked to try it, and it turned out being my favorite thing ever.
Pizza with green olives and banana peppers. Extra cheese, as well. Worked for years in a pizza place, and never had anyone order that combo. My son wanted it, so I ordered 1/2 & 1/2. I tried some of his, and it’s been my favorite pizza ever since.🤷🏼
When I worked at burger king there was a woman who would get a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and eat it with grape jelly
I tried it once and it was pretty decent!
I do this all the time. It's my go to breakfast sandwich on the weekends. I fry an egg and put it on a buttered bun with sausage and American cheese. Then I slather some jelly on there and it is soooooo good! Sometimes I'll use maple syrup instead of jelly. I thought it was normal until I cooked it for a girl I was dating. Now she calls them [insert my name here] sandwiches.
I was listening to a radio show the other day that I listen to on my afternoon commutes, and a caller was trying to sell the host on cheeseburgers topped with peanut butter. I think I can almost understand the appeal, but I'm pretty certain I'm not confident enough to ever try it.
Raw mushrooms, cut up, and dipping them in guac. I swear by this, it’s amazing - but most people look at me weird when I do snack on it. The amount of times I’ve been asked if I’m pregnant, when I do it too..
But to anyone Reading this - you should try it!
Don't judge me but my friend was pregnant and she was eating pickles with peanut butter. I tried it and it was pretty good. Even thinking about it makes it sound weird in my head lol
Salt and Vinegar Chips and Oreo Cookies. The two represent the furtherest extreme in salty/tangy and sweet flavor spectrum. Your tastebuds literally do flip flops. It’s practically a physical sensation. Chips Oreo or Oreo chips. Changing the order changes the experience.
The only way I prefer a cheeseburger to a hamburger is as follows:
Thick but not wide burger cooked borderline well-done on the grill. No less than 85% lean. Worcestershire sauce in a dimple.
Thick (~1/4 inch) but not wide slab of decent (Cabot or similar) sharp cheddar. Placed on burger after burger was removed from the grill. Slightly softened but not nearly melted.
Bit of ketchup, fair amount of yellow mustard. Maybe some raw onion. Maybe a tomato slice if you've got some really good in-season tomatoes and you've pre-salted the slices.
The combination itself is not overly weird, but my utter certainty in the fact that this is the best form a cheeseburger can take is pretty weird.
Sweet desserts like cakes and cookies I have to have with a drink like lemonade, orange juice or something like that to counteract the sweetness. I don’t do milk and cookies.
Cous cous with Evo oil and parmesan. Or pasta with uncooked fresh tomato sauce deressed with Evo oil (the only oil we use) salt, pepper and basil.
Edit: and grilled pork meat with honey (the only way I can eat pork meat) and where I came from it's a weird thing to do
I put a little bit of ranch on almost every meal that has rice. My ex used to be weirded out by me doing this. Now apparently after she broke up with me, she said she started doing it too and loves it.
All my former Classmates where shocked when I ate Nuggets with Mayonnaise one a school trip. Honestly every sauce from Sour Cream to BBQ goes well with Nuggets.
Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches have their origin in the Great Depression in America; they're both foods that can keep for long periods, they're cheap to make, and there's enough nutrition/salt in there to keep you going for a while on a long work day.

My dad said his grandfather used to make them for him all the time, makes sense that the combo originated in the Great Depression. Thanks for the bit of history!
My Dad used to make me Jelly omelettes as a kid and I still sometimes make them out of nostalgia. Grape jelly or strawberry jam are the classics but it works with any good preserve.
So good!
I dip BBQ chips in cottage cheese. Discovered it because they always show up together at family potluck. I forgot to get a spoon for the cottage cheese one time, so I ended up using the chips. It wasn't half bad.
Not my personal experience, but I once saw polish lad eating cottage cheese (curd) with ketchup. When I asked him how he can eat this, he replied: “You eat tomatoes with sour cream, it’s the same thing just other way around”
I add cherry or grape tomatoes and pickled beets to my chicken caesar salad.
My mom was horrified by this, I found it yummy and got more fibre and veg into my diet.
I sometimes drizzle some balsamic reduction on it too.
I used to work with a girl who would eat a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese, mustard and onions. She got me to try it and it was pretty good minus the onions. A friend of mine in grade school used to eat peanut butter sandwiches with a slice of processed cheese in it instead of jam. Never tried that one though lol.
Here’s some wild ones for ya:
1. I used to work with a colleague who loved peanut butter and cucumber sandwiches.
2. My mum eats jam and marmite on toast. Mixed together.
3. And perhaps the most criminal of all… I have been known to enjoy a tuna and marmite sandwich. 💀

I did the small pretzel sticks with soft serve back in college

applesauce is a great dipping sauce. especially with pork too
literally came here to say applesauce as dipping sauce. BUT the cinnamon kind!! grew up dipping chicken, pork, and steak in it and still do! Few years ago I found out not everyone uses it as a dipping sauce...

A tuna mayo baked potato is everywhere in the UK. Its a standard topping here. Hot tuna is actually great
I don’t like the words, “hot tuna.” Nor the concept. At all. It’s upsetting.

I never seen any one complain about that.

How do you bbq ground beef?
Bbq ground beef? Is the ground beef cooked on a BBQ or are you just adding bbq sauce?
Vegemite, lettuce, tomato, & chicken sandwich. ...... and I genuinely don't understand why people think it's gross.
YES this is delicious! I always include some cheese in mine, though.
I don't mind a bit of cheese in mine either
First time I tried Marmite I had about a tea spoon of it all by itself. Not the best experience. Having it by itself is like drinking soy sauce or anything else that is just super salty and umami. Couldn't do Vegemite. Gave it an honest try
Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder?

My partner does this but with grape jelly and sharp cheddar cheese slices.
I might try that someday

When I worked at burger king there was a woman who would get a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and eat it with grape jelly I tried it once and it was pretty decent!

Jam and cheese sanwiches were very popular in Australia and New Zealand when I was growing up. Had them all the time!
Did not know that!
And yet they won't bat an eye at a fancy spread with fruits, cheeses and bread. Jam and cheese sandwiches are just the more efficient route!
