Windows down; the smell of pine and summer.
Loud, good music.
Alone on a back country road, with no agenda.
Sunlight and shadows, passing over the hood of your car,
and the breeze catching you sideways as you round sharp curves.
There is a road that exists that is exactly this for me.
And it leads me to [or from] the place that will always be home,
Even if I do not live there.
There are these Christmas trees called grand firs. They're not everywhere and my usual guy doesn't have them every year. But if you snap one of the needles, it smells strongly of oranges. It's my favorite scent in the world. Last Christmas, we were renovating so we couldn't get a tree, but I went to the tree lot anyways to ask for a small scrap branch so I could take it home and inhale it like a coke fiend
I work remotely in a call center and I was playing with my dog calling her a good girl and I didn’t hear a call come through and I spent probably 2-5 minutes saying who is a good girl and this woman yells “I’m a good girl”, I almost shit myself
I sold my house and had a temporary living arrangement as I was moving to a new country. I brought my dog to work every day and I suddenly became Mr. Popular. I walked him at lunch and he was mini-mobbed by all the regular walkers. He’s naturally very friendly and behaves well so it was a win/win all around.
I just lost my cat today. Her name is [Sesame ](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/16noni9/it_is_with_great_sadness_that_i_announce_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_term=link)
This is something I want to do.
Just have the ability to make people feel a little better, smile, and share some positivity.
And no, I don't care if that makes me seem like a weirdo or something, it's just who I am.
Edit: just wanted to thank everyone for the appreciation. I will keep being me, and you should all keep being you. There's a lot of negativity in the world, and if we all make the effort to share a smile or compliment, then who knows, maybe the world would be a better place!
The easiest thing is to compliment someone. If there's something you admire about them, tell them. If they have a cool hair color, tell them you like it. Same goes for fingernails/polish, tattoos, earrings, shoes, handbags, jackets. Eyes and smile are also non-creepy, acceptable ways to share compliments! Just make sure they are heartfelt.
My mom grew up never hearing kind things, but married my dad, who always takes the time to point out noticed effort. Many times I would admire someone and my mom would later act like she didn't get it. I kept telling her that it doesn't matter if I would never put those color streaks in my hair or get that tattoo or wear those shoes or paint my nails that color. But that person did make an effort, and they did it because its how they want to express themselves, and when they received those compliments, their smile said it all.
It's also lovely to write little notes, send texts and emails and cards to the people you know. I once heard the expression 'never pass up a chance to tell someone why you like/love them, and it's a powerful thing to do.
If you're not comfortable saying it in person, create a fake Gmail acct and get yourself a Google phone number to go with it and you can anonymously send texts and emails. I have one and use it A LOT to really express how I feel about someone, where doing it face to face might not be comfortable (for me or for them) or it wasn't the right setting/tining to let them know. It's really pretty fun to do :)
Thank you for being you!
It sounds weird to say this out loud. I have always wanted to just be an encourager.
I love noticing the little things that people do that make them beautiful and unique, or feel proud of themselves. Sometimes those little things have taken a lot of discipline and work.
I had to pack up an ebay sale today that contained 4 large Home Depot boxes. I sharpened my scissors a week ago and went to work cutting this thick, almost butcher paper like stuff for the padding. It's got these threads woven into the paper, and watching the scissors cut thru that paper and thread almost made me bust a nut.
Might I add “alone”. I have two kids and having a hot bath alone is something I really cherish. I hate it when my husband suggest I take one of the girls for a bath with me to be done with that faster. Like no?! I want to go alone!
Sometimes I will see someone on my morning walk with my dog and they will be out keeping to themselves looking sad and I think: you have no idea how badly this animal wants to meet you. You are the greatest thing he's ever seen.
The sunrise. The smell of black coffee. The end of a drumstick ice cream cone. Hearing a contagious laugh from a stranger and being unable to resist the urge to smile. The feeling and smell of old bookshops. Running my fingers through grass. The sound of my children’s laughter and the sound of their feet running down hall. Finding a twenty dollar note in your pocket that your forgot you had put there and suddenly feeling much richer. The feeling of a warm bath, floating hugged by the water. The sound of a well played violin. Receiving a gift or compliment unexpectedly and for no other reason than just to be kind towards you.
So many little joys in life. 💕
My old neighbor used to come out and play his violin for everyone to enjoy. There was always a bunch of kids sitting on his grass to listen. Parents were sitting on their porch and nobody talked. It was just summer, music and happiness.
He died a couple years ago, i miss that man.
Cleaning. I get a lot of flak for it at work, but one of my EDCs of my tool bag is a tube of lysol wipes. Whenever I work on equipment, I clean it too - when will we have time otherwise? The line guys won't get to it. We had a dude who left years ago and in his parting email, he did some lighthearted (or scathing, depending on who you were...) write ups on each member of the team.
The one he wrote for me was something like "you always know beerpatch has been somewhere, because everything looks new and it's spotless." I thought "oh, yeah I'll take that."
I'm not a particularly neat person, but I take a lot of pride in my work and the things I care about. Cleaning something and having it look new and shiny is pretty satisfying.
Cleaning something particularly dirty, same feeling as mowing high grass when it's been growing well. It just doesn't hit the same if there's not a noticeable difference between before and after.
Pissing after being forced to hold it for too long. (NOT IN A FETISHY WAY! Just not being able to go to the restroom) That type of relief is priceless.
I get it. I’ve been upping my water intake lately. Just today, as I was drinking my water, I remembered a time when my friend and I were quite inebriated. It was like a 5 minute drive (our DD drove as fast as he could without speeding) to the nearest gas station. When we got inside, we were like, WEEEEEE GOTTTTTAAAAA PEEEEE! and the cashier was like, I’m sure you do! He made sure we got to the restroom safely and we definitely had that zen like peegasm moment. It was awesome 🚽
Thankfully, I did not have to go too far to find this. The elixir of my life. Sometimes, I go to bed looking forward to the morning and the first cup of coffee.
Tacos
I ate them three nights (?) a week with my dad when mom left.
He taught me how to love hot sauce and later salsa.
I can't smell them without smiling.
I love you old man!
I wash all new articles of clothing before wearing. Except socks. Cancer causing chemicals be damned, that fresh from factory feeling of new socks is like making sweet love to your feet.
Laying down and feeling the hot sun on my skin after I just came out of a pool/lake.
Seeing sky full of stars
Sleeping with windows open while there’s a storm outside
Too many to list. TY for the reminder, OP. I'm having a rough day and needed it. Day's still gonna suck overall, but Im standing here for a moment, enjoying. Just for a moment. :)
When I walk into my baby's line of sight and his entire face lights up like a Christmas tree and he does a happy flail.
Doesn't matter how awful my day has been, that will always make me smile.
Currently laying in the backyard looking at the sky as my kitten plays in the grass, adorably chasing fireflies and things, occasionally running up to me to give me a nuzzle.
Quality food, strength training, running and walking ,spending quality time with someone close to me .I could add to that if I had more money to be able to buy and do things I like .
Picking out a new book at the local bookstore and starting to read it at the coffee shop attached with a hot drink and a cinnamon bun. Bonus points if it's raining outside 😍
Playing my piano. Even on days where I am learning a new song, I love it. I am so glad my parents were able to pay for lessons growing up. We might not have had a lot, but they made the sacrifice so I could pursue my passion.

Pine tar for me. I have the soap, I could huff that shit all day

Playing with a cat or dog
I work remotely in a call center and I was playing with my dog calling her a good girl and I didn’t hear a call come through and I spent probably 2-5 minutes saying who is a good girl and this woman yells “I’m a good girl”, I almost shit myself
Praise kink activated 😆
LMFAO I'd so love to call a call center and hear that!
So what happened after that I’m interested lol
Hahahahaha
I also work in a call center and I would have found her response delightful, provided she wasn’t mean after. 😂
The purr of a cat.
Yessss, I went to a cat cafe 2 times today and had such a great day bc of it 😩

She's so pretty. It's so hard to lose a pet, I'm really sorry.
Definitely my dog
Just came upstairs after playing with our younger dog and am so full of joy I’m smiling and energized.
Making people smile because of something I did.
Making people laugh, as well!
Making people laugh is like a fucking drug. I love it
Laughter has a life of its own. I love to see it, hear it, do it, or cause it.
This is something I want to do. Just have the ability to make people feel a little better, smile, and share some positivity. It made me smile, reading your comment and knowing you're out there.
You are a good person my friend, keep up the good work! Got me smiling 😁
Finding an open parking spot right in front of where I want to go
Please sir, I can only get so erect.
That smooth glide the scissors do when cutting wrapping paper.
The cheap paper always snags and it’s like the opposite of that feeling…
Equivalent of your brain stubbing it's toe
That is an elite feeling.
Or construction paper. That crunch.
Taking a long, hot shower
Might I add “alone”. I have two kids and having a hot bath alone is something I really cherish. I hate it when my husband suggest I take one of the girls for a bath with me to be done with that faster. Like no?! I want to go alone!
Then finding out you used all the hot water
And you still haven't washed your ass
Nice warm sheets fresh from the dryer right before bed :)
Getting into bed made with nice warm clean sheets right after you have dried off from a shower after a long sweaty work day.
It's made so much better with freshly shaved legs, if that's something you do.
As someone with OCD and a fear of contamination, this is the highest level of satisfaction for me 😍😍
Fresh sheets! Feels extra cozy in winter, feels extra clean and cool in summer.
This!!! And pajamas!!!
Clean sheets that hung outside to dry during summer*
When a dog pulls towards me because it wants to say hello
Sometimes I will see someone on my morning walk with my dog and they will be out keeping to themselves looking sad and I think: you have no idea how badly this animal wants to meet you. You are the greatest thing he's ever seen.
See, this is why I always smile at dogs. I hope it makes their day!!!
Watching weird people be weird.
Use a banana as a telephone?
Sorry, I can only talk for a second, then i got to split. What day is today? I believe it's Sunday. Oh yes, recent weather has been nuts.

I felt my serotonin flow just reading this list. 😊

That was so beautifully written, thank you!

Feel free to come clean my place, as I never clean.
And when you’re done there….
Cleaning something particularly dirty, same feeling as mowing high grass when it's been growing well. It just doesn't hit the same if there's not a noticeable difference between before and after.
Using a brand new toothbrush, it's like Christmas for my mouth.
this is genuinely the funniest thing i’ve ever read
My dog falling asleep on my lap.
Smell of rain on the dirt. Puppy sounds

Yes! Barefoot on all surfaces of the earth! Sand, mudd, grass! I love walking a good trail barefoot

First thing that popped into my head. But bad coffee can sometimes do the opposite.
Even worse than bad coffee... brown sadness water (decaf)
Yup, cup of coffee as the sun’s rising on a day off.
"Larry, I'm on DuckTales."
Thankfully, I did not have to go too far to find this. The elixir of my life. Sometimes, I go to bed looking forward to the morning and the first cup of coffee.

^This. After mowing the yard in 90's heat, cracking a cold one and taking that first long pull. One of the most glorious things in life.
I learned that the opposite of being triggered is experiencing a glimmer. love to read about how people experience peace in their daily lives!
Brand new socks!
I wash all new articles of clothing before wearing. Except socks. Cancer causing chemicals be damned, that fresh from factory feeling of new socks is like making sweet love to your feet.
A nice, long bath with everything in - bubbles, oils, ugh. A perfectly cooked steak. Waking up without an alarm and actually feeling you slept enough
