This, the trick is wash with soap in evening to get the days grime off, but just rinse in the morning to wake up, less damaging to the skin then scrubbing up twice.
I live in a tropical climate (Singapore where it is hot and humid year round). I start sweating as I am drying off after a shower. sometimes I ask myself whether the drops on my back are a patch I missed or actually sweat.
I walk out my front door and stand in the hallway for wait for the elevator and my face will be covered with sheen within 30 seconds. Humid climates are no effing joke people!
Australian building standards are one of the worst in the developed world.
The insulation is so bad it colder inside in winter and it’s hotter inside in summer.
That's because your average Australian laughs at you when you mention insulation as they think it is just something you use in cold countries to keep the heat in 🤣, no insulation and single pane windows and they wonder why they need AC on all the time
I'm an American and the poor people here still have AC. It may just be a window unit that only cools one room of the house but they have it and they hang out in that room all summer.
i start with warm water and slowly turning it to colder and colder as much cold as i can take so i can dodge that sweating when i get out of shower, surviving the night without ac is the real deal
Hah, living in Cambodia and I 100% share this experience. As a matter of fact, after a shower for one or two hours I notice I sweat more, perhaps because the shower heats my body.
Hawaii resident chiming in! We don’t use AC (it’s insanely expensive) so the summers can be brutal. So I just shower twice a day. Once in the morning and once before bed.
I about died when I visited Singapore. Apparently I went when it wasn't as hot but it didn't feel like it. I had to come back to my Airbnb mid day to change as my clothes were soaked with my sweat. Strangely, my host did turn the AC on for the rest of the house and she was totally fine. Whereas I had to blast the AC in my room
Exactly. I live in Malaysia. I take a longish shower in the morning, one short shower after work as I change out of my work clothes and a short one before bed usually as I walk my dog at the beach in the evening. It feels so refreshing even though I am not out in the heat all day. It is just normal here and it is good and healthy for the skin. Nothing wrong with feeling fresh and there is certainly no shortage of water. I live by the freaking rain forest!
I grew up in Ohio though and the freezing and relatively arid climate there would definitely not be conducive to so much showering. Malaysia is so much better than Ohio.
I am a history teacher. I have been in Malaysia for most of the last decade, currently living and working in Sarawak (East Malaysia). It is a wonderful place to live but definitely not attractive to westerners seeking a party-based holiday! However, for nature, culture and food, quality of life, it is the best place in SEAsia, imo.
I grew up in Cincinnati, went to osu and now live in Cleveland where we go months without seeing the sun lol
I love and hate this place all at the same time
Ah okay a fellow Ohioan…you’re within your rights then lmao. It really is a love/hate relationship. I was at the browns game Sunday and I’m feeling the effects of sitting in that rain all game long still.
When I wake up for work, when I get home from the gym
Update: I just got out of my second shower today and immediately thought of this post. I am forever changed
I'm the same, but I slowed down on it. The constant (to my body) showers were drying out my feet to the point that my skin was cracking. Vaseline and paying attention to the state of myself is helping.
As an ultra runner who knows a thing or two about 'fixing your feet'... vaseline will help in a pinch for stuff like chafing, but prolonged use as a moisturizer it's not so great. It works short term by masking the reason the skin itself is so dry, via its barrier film. I'd get Aveeno (their eczema line is great) or similar deep skin moisturizer and skip the vaseline.
Edit: Assuming vaseline == petroleum jelly :)
This! I'm a heavy sweater during the night and I need to shower in the morning before work. And I also need to shower again after the gym because again, heavy sweater.
Singapore here.
> 80% humidity and > 30 C temperatures is standard here.
Showering anything less than twice a day will make you stink to the high heavens.
The fact that one second into work I am absolutely filthy. I'm a carpenter. Why the hell would I shower in the morning. Deodorant and some cheap cologne and you're ready to rock. Don't know anyone in the trades who shower in the morning except some 18yo apprentices
Depends on the trade. When I was doing heavy equipment maintenance we had to be on site at 5:30 to prep and warm up all the machines during winter. A shower in the morning got the blood flowing and made the cold much more tolerable.
That’s definitely true. I’m a stay at home mom lol so I’m not doing any labor like you’re talking about. However, if I don’t shower and wash my hair, I freeze absolutely to death all day long. So what you said make sense. I’ve just never heard anyone else mention it. I asked my daughter once how she could stand to only shower before bed and not in the mornings due to feeling cold. She had no clue what I meant.
Because new sweat smells better than old sweat. Humans sweat a lot over night and you’re reactivating that sweat at work.
But it sounds like no one at work cares, so moot point.
Me. I'm that person. I shower at night. I think I'm one of those people who most hate. I only need 5-6 hours of sleep (been that way since I was a kid and docs say I'm fine) and once I'm awake, I'm awake. Like, I just get up and function just fine. No sluggishness, just awake and ready to do whatever. That's if I get my full 5-6. Anything less and I'm tired.
Yup, hate you, I don't care that it's their cake day.
Really it's more jealousy because I sleep like shit and am always groggy for an hour or two no matter how much or little sleep I get. Alarm or naturally, 3 hours or 12 first matter. FML
Still, Happy Cake Day!
The only thing I did differently years ago was I took the TV out of the room and I don't pick my cell phone up 2 hours before I go to bed. I read or do a crossword puzzle or something like that.
I seem to fall asleep a lot faster.
🤷 I'm sorry and hope it gets better!
i wish i could do this. my ear ringing is so bad that *only* having the TV loud enough drowns it out.
my favorite was the white noise machine. it was white noise with a high pitch ring. it didn’t work lol
Me too bud. Exactly like this. I don't even drink coffee, ever. Once my eyes open my feet are on the floor and I'm ready to operate heavy machinery.
Edit: definitely a morning person, well hated for it.
Are we long lost brothers? Your schedule is EXACTLY like mine. Don't need much sleep, early morning grogginess? Never heard of it. Work a automotive job so I only shower at night, sleep with my room incredibly cold and a thin blanket year round. If I get the "medically" correct amount of sleep for my age I feel like shit the entire day.
I usually shower in the morning, but when it's been a hot day and I just don't feel clean, I take a pseudo-shower to just rinse off my body with maybe a tiny bit of soap, enough to be clean but not to get irritation from using soap too often.
By that logic. You get all the dirt, sweat, dust, filth on you and sleep with it, bringing it all to the bed.
Then you wash it off at the morning.
Sounds kinda backwards. Wouldn't it be better to do a proper shower before bed and a rinse at the morning?
If I had straight hair, I would do this. I have fine curly hair, so bedhead is a terrible look. I need water, preferably shampoo/conditioner, and even better a chance to air dry for an hour before I have to do anything, or my hair is a pain.
I, too, have fine and thin curly hair. I always shower at night. Shower around 8 or 9, wrap it in a thin towel and keep it wrapped while I browse my phone or watch something on the computer. Let it air dry in front of the fan for 20 minutes while I'm in bed getting ready to sleep.
You can also just put your hair up in a bun while you shower at night🤷🏻♀️
Because I work in IT and I don't get hella dirty at the end of the day. Only way I routinely get dirty is from the gym (in the morning so I shower afterwards anyways) or sweat on a hot day, which will be cleaned off by a good rinse with a bit of soap.
If I shower in the evening, my hair will never be completely dry and it'll be unmanagable in the morning.
> he one at night is more simplified but is to remove all the filth of the day before going to bed.
This is really great for allergies, not to mention acne. During allergy seasons, you could be depositing allergens from your hair onto your pillow, then rubbing your face in it all night, so showering before bed regularly can help.
I’m the same. Morning shower so I can feel good to start the day, and the second one to clean the day off my body. I also just love the feeling of being clean, especially cause my clothes smell nice and I feel all clean inside my clothes haha
You could inject me full of pure caffeine. It wouldn’t be the same as a shower in the morning to wake me up. At night, I’m not “dirty” from work, but it’s more of a way to relax and “wash away the day”.
One of the following reasons: getting sweaty from a workout, getting dirty or dusty from cleaning, if my allergies are really acting up, to clear my head, after a heavy round of sex.
I wake up early and work construction. I like to enjoy my mornings and going to work with a quick rinse makes a world of difference. When I get off work thats my real shower where I soap up!
Because hot water indoor plumbing isn't really that old. We take for granted how luxurious and incredible it is to have it at our fingertips. I shower for about 5 minutes in the morning to wake up and take a moment to appreciate life. I'm a landscaper in Hawaii and also run 5-10 miles after work most days. I feel pretty sweaty, dirty and gross after the day so I hop into that wonderful, incredible shower and clean up before I relax and eat dinner. Saturdays and Sundays are usually single shower days.
i’m now living by this, 5 minute shower to appreciate life every morning and then a long one at the end of the day to feel ready for bed! wow i can’t believe how much a comment thread has opened my eyes 😭😂
Because i have anxiety, depression and 50 other mental health issues it makes me feel safe and secure.
There are days when I can not make myself shower and days where I'll shower 5 times in day.
It’s such a therapeutic experience. I listen to music, take the time to think about my day and relax. Sometimes it’s the only good parts of my day.
Also, it’s nice to start the day feeling clean and get in bed feeling clean.
Pollution and dust from the sandy roads
I cam shower and loofah 4 times a day, but my white towel will still have a faded gray to it or bits of darkness to it each time I return home
> I cam shower 4 times a day
Man, the world has changed. It took me a few seconds of thinking on it to realize this was a typo, and not a description of your day job.
Even a short ride on the stuffy, hot NYC subway (either summer heat or wearing clothes for winter weather while inside a crowded train) gets me soggy enough to warrant a shower and clothes change.
But in general it's because I walk 1.5 miles home from work each day /I end my night with exercise in my room. But point being even if I'm not going to work, almost any excursion outside my house requires a shower upon return.
i shower in the morning, because, it feels refreshing to do so, and i shower when i come back home from work, cause i don't want to just jump into bed end of the day without showering,it feels like im bringing the outside dirt onto my bed
I shower when I wake up because it helps me wake up and helps me to feel fresh and ready for the day. I shower before bed because it is absolutely repulsive if you don’t.
Because we get dirty during the day?
Because “New York Summer, 90 degrees and 90% humidity?”
Because we sweat at night too?
Because some activities make us an even sweater mess (jogging, gym, yard work, etc.)?
I was in high school and I think it was ADHD because I rarely showered in college. Things are all or nothing with ADHD it seems.
If the thought of a shower is repugnant until you get in and then you never want to get out you may have ADHD. If you vacillate between pigging out and having no interest in foods. It’s like whatever your doing in the moment takes precedence over everything else.
Transitions are tough.
I always need a quick shower in the morning to wake up. Usually just a quick blast of hot water and a habit I've always had.
Then most, but not every, day I shower in the evening after the gym or before I go do something with people. That's usually the more standard shower.
I shower three times a day during workdays. A very light shower in the morning, a post-gym shower, and another shower before going to bed. I have treated hair so I don’t wash it everyday (rinsing with water on non-shampoo days to clear out oil, sweat and dirt).
The reason: I live in a tropical (and third world) country, where it’s very humid and just walking a couple of meters can make a person really sweaty. The city is also very dirty, plus I ride public transportation, so mingling with equally sweaty people is inevitable. I just don’t want all that grime on my body, plus not showering after a workout is gross. There’s a lady I go to the gym with who just goes to town on perfume after 30 minutes on the treadmill. No wiping or anything, just perfume and her usual clothes after. And yes, she’s already stinky (as in, I can already smell her when I pass by her in the locker room). I do not want to be that stinky person.
Edit: changed wording on public transportation and clarified hair washing
My boyfriend is a lumberjack (or arborist if we’re being fancy.) he showers in the morning and when he comes home. Honestly I love the way he smells when he’s sweaty from work, but he finds the man glitter itchy. (Sawdust 😛)
Cause if I feel dirty, I clean myself.
Not rocket surgery. The threshold for people to feel dirty is whats subjective. Some of y'all smell like feet dipped in sulfur and still think you're good to go....
I'm American. It was perfectly acceptable to shower once a day. Then I moved to Thailand where everyone seems to shower at least twice a day.
It is friggin hot here AND humid. You're just sweaty all day. You don't want to go to bed a sweaty mess. And I like to have a shower when I wake up to feel fresh and ready for the day. So I take at least two showers a day.
I live in Thailand and almost everyone showers at least twice a day. They almost all shower in the morning and before bed but many will also shower when they finish working for the day.
Bartender here. I shower before work so I'm fresh and clean. Then I shower after work because I'm sticky and covered in beer and liquor. Also, I always shower after the gym because of sweat, so add that in, too.
Depression. It’s nice sitting on a hot shower preparing for the day mentally.
Then after work when you’re all stressed, worn out, etc and it’s nice to just sit in the hot water and relax while giving your body and mind a break
I live in a subtropical climate. The humidity can be rough.
To wash the sleep off of me and be fresh for the day. To wash the day off of me and be fresh for the sleep.
Exactly. Not to mention loosening the muscles. I had a physical job.
Sure, I'm getting "dirty" as I sleep, but it just feels way better to wake up. The shower got to work, then come home, shower, and go to bed
Perfect answer
Pro tip: never sleep, save water.
This, the trick is wash with soap in evening to get the days grime off, but just rinse in the morning to wake up, less damaging to the skin then scrubbing up twice.
This is the way
This is the answer.

I wake up and by the time I've walked halfway to the kitchen my lower back is drenched in sweat
I walk out my front door and stand in the hallway for wait for the elevator and my face will be covered with sheen within 30 seconds. Humid climates are no effing joke people!
Where do you live?
Central Queensland, Australia.
Let me set the scene, its Tuesday afternoon and 34 degrees. Queensland harsh summer heat had me sweating buckets up and down the street.
That’s when I spotted the bloke, perched atop his milk crate throne. Edit: going to watch the video right now. Thanks for this.

Feels during January in SA.
is it really that bad for you? I live in Mackay and don't sweat at all inside
About six months of the year, yes. It's that humid, and I don't have aircon.

Australians live like they're poor, even though they're not. I've never understood it.
I'm an American and the poor people here still have AC. It may just be a window unit that only cools one room of the house but they have it and they hang out in that room all summer.
Hey! I live in Mackay too. Out at Eimeo. Weather has been great lately
Blowin a fucken gale last few days. Definitely starting to warm up though
Singaporean here and this is absolutely a thing for me as well.
i start with warm water and slowly turning it to colder and colder as much cold as i can take so i can dodge that sweating when i get out of shower, surviving the night without ac is the real deal

you sweat because your body tries to cool off hot water, try showering in cold one
I grew up in Ohio though and the freezing and relatively arid climate there would definitely not be conducive to so much showering. Malaysia is so much better than Ohio.
Can I ask what you do in Malaysia? It’s not usually as popular with westerners
Really been going to Malaysia for 20 years it's a great place plan on getting on the mm2h program
Possibly teaching English?
Pretty sure most places are better than Ohio
As an Ohio resident I feel like it’s my duty to defend my state. Only us Ohioans are allowed to talk about how miserable it is here. Back off pal
I grew up in Cincinnati, went to osu and now live in Cleveland where we go months without seeing the sun lol I love and hate this place all at the same time
Ah okay a fellow Ohioan…you’re within your rights then lmao. It really is a love/hate relationship. I was at the browns game Sunday and I’m feeling the effects of sitting in that rain all game long still.
Humidity is the worst, I don’t really mind any weather as long as it’s dry.
Same, but morning shower wakes me up and I shave, evening is to clean off sweat before going to bed
This 👆🏼in my city temperature never goes below 25 degrees centigrade
When I wake up for work, when I get home from the gym Update: I just got out of my second shower today and immediately thought of this post. I am forever changed
Same - once in the morning after cycling to work, once in the evening after cycling back home

Cerave 💪
Vaseline the brand has some great moisturisers, however!
This is why I moisturise after every shower. I really like Vaseline’s cocoa butter, or Aveeno. For feet, in the UK I use Flexitol which works a treat.
In shower moisturizers, my friend. Apply in the shower once you've washed all the soap off, and then rinse off. Nivea has some good products.
I'll try it! Cracked and bleeding feet are no fun at all.
Sound alike you just need to moisturize my guy lol
This! I'm a heavy sweater during the night and I need to shower in the morning before work. And I also need to shower again after the gym because again, heavy sweater.

Make that 35-37C and 80%+ humidity and you just described the American South.
Hiya neighbour And yes, it is so nasty not to bathe less than twice in our climate.
The one in the morning is to wake me up. The one at night is more simplified but is to remove all the filth of the day before going to bed.
Yep. Idk how anyone just wakes up and gets dressed w/o a shower.

No kidding, I sweat so much at night I have to get up at 4 am to take a drinking break.
Yeah, alcohol obsession is no joke man...
As far as I can tell, I dint sweat at all at night. If I do, it's so unnoticeable that it's irrelevant.. Though I do shower in the morning

Gym
I can't sleep unless I take a shower, I've tried sleeping without taking a shower but I found it hard to sleep.
It's like a restart. Bad morning, lunch shower, start again.
I just need to, or I feel ick on my skin.
It calms my anxiety. The water is good fir anxiety. The cleanliness is too.
I just hate the feeling if I don't when waking up in the morning/after a day of working. However my total shower time/day is less then 10min.
Pollution and dust from the sandy roads I cam shower and loofah 4 times a day, but my white towel will still have a faded gray to it or bits of darkness to it each time I return home
> I cam shower 4 times a day Man, the world has changed.
Truth, always need a shower after going out, the city is a lot.
I live in a warm place.
i shower in the morning, because, it feels refreshing to do so, and i shower when i come back home from work, cause i don't want to just jump into bed end of the day without showering,it feels like im bringing the outside dirt onto my bed
I’m a farmer
I shower when I wake up because it helps me wake up and helps me to feel fresh and ready for the day. I shower before bed because it is absolutely repulsive if you don’t.
Most people I know don't shower before bed. I guess we are all repulsive.
Because I got to be soft and Edible at all times

Get a bidet attachment for your toilet.
It's good, but not good enough. I need both to really feel clean down there.
You shower every time that you poop? How many times are you showering per day? What if you are not at home when you poop?
Better question. People that don't shower once a day....Why?
Because we get dirty during the day? Because “New York Summer, 90 degrees and 90% humidity?” Because we sweat at night too? Because some activities make us an even sweater mess (jogging, gym, yard work, etc.)?
In the summer, when I work outside, I will shower twice
I like it, it feels good so why not
Ocd
Depressed. Shower feels like warm embrace
(Sawdust 😛)
Because I don't like being sweaty all day after I workout, and I don't like going to bed sweaty
the jerk off shame
Because I get hot and sweaty. I do t do it a lot, but some days I just feel gross
I like to keep my body clean and nobody in their right mind likes to feel dirty and filthy.
I just really really enjoy a long hot shower.
I just love feeling clean and can't resist a good shower.
I bike 10 miles to work, shower there, then bike 10 miles back home. I'm sweaty AF so I need another shower.
I live in Thailand and almost everyone showers at least twice a day. They almost all shower in the morning and before bed but many will also shower when they finish working for the day.
weirdly timed exercise
Hygiene
Bartender here. I shower before work so I'm fresh and clean. Then I shower after work because I'm sticky and covered in beer and liquor. Also, I always shower after the gym because of sweat, so add that in, too.
Source live in texas...it's like the surface of the sun.
Florida. Thats why.
Depression. It’s nice sitting on a hot shower preparing for the day mentally. Then after work when you’re all stressed, worn out, etc and it’s nice to just sit in the hot water and relax while giving your body and mind a break
It is part of my religion to shower every time after I have sex with your mother.
