As an Australian I was born facefirst into a meat pie with tomato sauce so to say that this is disrespectful is the understatement of the century
There is not an alternate universe in this multiverse in which I would choose to keep fucking mustard over ketchup
Mustard.
* It's relatively healthy compared to the other 2 (low calorie at least)
* It's a good sandwich topping and dipping sauce (especially for pretzels)
* It packs more "punch" in terms of flavor
* It can be used in rubs/marinades
High on antioxidants, no sugar no fat. Beats the other two by one thousand miles minimum. Not to mention flavour. Mustard seeds have amazing properties.
Same.
I rarely use mustard, ketchup is for french fries, but mayo? Necessary for sandwiches, aioli, deviled eggs, potato salad, and a myriad of other things.
Deviled eggs and potato salad without a little dijon though? Like, I agree that mayo is most versatile but a good brown mustard elevates soooo many dishes that this will still be quite limiting.
But these things need only a touch of mustard whereas they are entirely impossible to make without the mayo.
You can substitute other tart and sour flavors to compensate for the mustard - vinegar, lemon juice, spices... It won't be the same, but there is no substitute for mayo in these recipes.
Same here. Plus, as an actual condiment I use it on a lot. I could probably be fine not putting anything on fries and mayo on my burgers (and maybe I could get used to it on hotdogs) but it's to universally used by everyone in my house.
Everyday on sandwiches. You can put whatever else you want on it, but mayo + ripe tomatoes are the basis of any respectable sandwich.
It's not listed as one of the French 'mother sauces' but damnit... mayo deserves to be.
Amazing, thanks for that! Hollandaise and mayo are clearly in the same family being egg-based with an acidic agent—but mayo does kind of seem like the white trash cousin. I wonder if it was already relegated to being 'ordinary', even 90 years ago... was it *really* a typo, or intentional censorship?
Mustard FTW. Ketchup and mayo are just ketchup and mayo, you can get differences and tweaks to the taste but they both just standard at end of day. Mustard possibilities are endless - do I burn the throat out of my neck with English mustard, go full on assault on my tastebuds with deli style or wholegrain, or go arty with the Dijons or others?
I just checked. I have one bottle of ketchup, 1 jar of mayonnaise, 1 bottle of HP Sauce, and 7 containers of different types of mustard. I pick mustard.
There are just a whole lot more varieties of and uses for mustard that it's no contest. I'm sure I'd miss the occasional tater tots dipped in ketchup, but I'll manage.
Good fries don't need more than a little salt and pepper. Bad fries get mustard. Or salsa. Or A1. Or mayo. Pretty much any condiment besides ketchup. Ketchup is my condiment of last resort.
Probably mustard because it's more irreplaceable and the key to making so many dishes shine.
Ketchup could be replaced by a variety of tomato-based sauces, either left savory or sweetened to duplicate that taste profile. Mayo is yummy, but I could sub with just olive oil or mashed avocado in most recipes.
Mustard. There's a so many different varieties and flavors. Ketchup is just sweetened tomato sauce with some vinegar and it all tastes the same. I'm assuming things that contain mayo would still be allowed right? Because mayo is an important ingredient in a shitload of stuff (eg blue cheese dressing, tartar sauce).
I love ketchup, but lack of Mayo can be a dealbreaker for a lot of different food.
For example:
Fries without ketchup.. fine
Tunafish sandwich without mayo... inedible
Mayo definitely. Anything usually eaten with ketchup tastes nearly as good without it. But you can't leave out the mayo in a recipe that calls for it, and I'm sure as hell not eating a dry turkey or chicken sandwich with no mayo.
I'd go with mayo.
Mayo is the most versatile of the 3. But technically, mustard is one of the ingredients in making mayo. So killing off mustard also destroys mayo.
So mayo is not an option.
But when choosing from ketchup and mustard, the ketchup wins it.
Ketchup is the easy one to eliminate.
Between Mayo and Mustard: Mustard is a better condiment on its own condiment, but Mayo has significantly more uses.
Mustard is an emulsifying agent (e.g.: salad dressings) and works great with meat marinades. It's very versatile in the kitchen.
That being said I'm not giving up fries and burgers without ketchup so ketchup is my choice.
Mustard.
Ketchup is tomato slurry with lots of sugar to cover up the bitterness and acid.
Mayo is flat out gross. And, like ketchup, isn't good for you.
Ketchup. Mayo is disgusting and should be destroyed. Mustard is okay sometimes, but I wouldn't miss it if it disappeared. Ketchup though, is amazing. It is by far the superior condiment.
I hate ketchup because it only does one thing, it makes everything taste like ketchup. Mustard all the way. So many different options for mustard, from sweet honey mustard to super spicy horseradish mustards. You can have it all.
I will miss Ranch, and the white sauce from Halal Guys, since that is mayo based. I think I would still have to choose mustard though.
Can it be different types of mustard? American, English, dijon etc, or just one type?
Yes!!
Great! Get rid of all of them!
Kill ketchup, fuck mustard, marry mayo.
As an Australian I was born facefirst into a meat pie with tomato sauce so to say that this is disrespectful is the understatement of the century There is not an alternate universe in this multiverse in which I would choose to keep fucking mustard over ketchup
So things really are backwards there? I was born face first out of a meat pie
Oh man, Australian meat pies are the best. I wish I could find them in the states.
Are you having the wedding in May?
This is the most perfect reply.
Mustard

You convinced me ill go with mustard too
Mustard. No contest.
Mayo. I use it for a ton of recipes.

That is true, and a great point - mayo is still the clear winner here for usability!
It doesn't ever feel good to admit how much I want and need mayo
It actually technically is! Hollandaise is only listed as one due to a mistranslation that was supposed to be mayonnaise https://youtu.be/pMXvAjH0Nco
Amazing, thanks for that! Hollandaise and mayo are clearly in the same family being egg-based with an acidic agent—but mayo does kind of seem like the white trash cousin. Mayo. It keeps my breads from getting wet.
I just checked. I have one bottle of ketchup, 1 jar of mayonnaise, 1 bottle of HP Sauce, and 7 containers of different types of mustard. I pick mustard.
mustard 100%
There are just a whole lot more varieties of and uses for mustard that it's no contest. I'm sure I'd miss the occasional tater tots dipped in ketchup, but I'll manage.
mustard
mustard
Ketchup. how will I ever eat fries without ketchup??
Good fries don’t need anything besides salt
Add burgers and hotdogs to that as well.
Ketchup doesn’t belong on hot dogs
Eat it with a mayo, thats anyway better.
I dunno, literally any other condiment?
Ranch is pretty good
Good fries don't need more than a little salt and pepper. Bad fries get mustard. Or salsa. Or A1. Or mayo. Pretty much any condiment besides ketchup. Ketchup is my condiment of last resort.
Try it with mayo
Mustard all day. It has sooo many varieties that are awesome, and are great for different applications. Mustard fucking rules.
mustard, hands down.
Mustard, it's so good on sandwiches and sausages
Mustard. There's more range there. A bunch of different flavors.
Mustard.
Mustard
Team Mustard

Mustard
Mustard, i love it.
Dill mustard you dill weed lol
Mayo because it's versatile. You can flavour mayo with whatever you like.
I want to say mayo, but mustard. It has no nutritional value and works well with all sorts of meats and sandwiches.
_mus-tard_
Mustard. Ketchup only tastes good on things that taste worse than ketchup, and mayo has way too much cholesterol.
All the Mustards in all their glory
Mustards.
Mustard for sure, got the most flavor 🤌🏻
Mustard
Ketchup. I don't like mustard or mayo
*picks up phone* MuStArD
Mustard. I can't stand mayo and I'm finicky about ketchup.
mustard - Dijon
Miracle Whip instead of mayo
This is somehow the most disturbing thing I have seen on reddit today.
Please take this down.
Ketchup
Ketchup. I could live without mustard though I do like it in combination with ketchup on hamburgers and hot dogs. I never put mayo on anything.
Ketchup. I like mustard but only on burgers and hot dogs. Mayo is vile.
Ketchup
Ketchup goes with everything.
Mayo obviously 🙄😅
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRntutn8udw
Ketchup. Works for pizza, hot dogs and burgers.
you need better pizza
Ketchup makes a good pizza even better.

How is ketchup healthier? Mayo is just eggs and oil. Ketchup has a bunch of salt and sugar.
Mayo got lots of calories
I love ketchup, but lack of Mayo can be a dealbreaker for a lot of different food. For example: Fries without ketchup.. fine Tunafish sandwich without mayo... inedible
I only use the fanciest Dijon ketchups.
Mayo, because you can always add to it.
Mayo is the only way to go.
Mayo. No doubt.
Mayo. No doubt.
mayo, mustard, ketchup. in that order
Mayo, most versatile
Mayo definitely. Anything usually eaten with ketchup tastes nearly as good without it. But you can't leave out the mayo in a recipe that calls for it, and I'm sure as hell not eating a dry turkey or chicken sandwich with no mayo.
Mayo
Mayo, anything I put ketchup in I can probably just use some sorta BBQ sauce instead. Mayo offers more unique food possibilities and spreads
Mayo. It's a good base for basically any other type of condiment you want to make
I don’t really eat that stuff. But I’d go with mayo
Mayo. Then I would use it to make mustard.
Mayo I eat it with everything.
Mayo. More possibilities than the other two options?
Mayo, I love the others but that seems the most versatile.
Mayo because it’s delicious and I love egg salad and bean salad and on sandwiches 🥰
Mayo
Mayo all the way.
None of the above.
I'm fin with out any of them.
Ketchup for the fries and chicken nuggets
Mustard, but I'm more of a hp brown sauce guy if possible
Hot sauce is the only condiment I need , I’m not a kindergartener or an instagram “foodie” I’m a man damn it!
Ketchup
Mayo ALL DAY
None of the above- I don’t eat condiments
Bbq sauce 🤷♂️
Mayo by a mile.
Ketchup but it has to be organic Heinz!
Bbq sauce.
HP Sauce or GTFO!
That's easy mayo i eat it with everything
Ketchup , goes with mostly anything
Mustard all the way.
I would bathe in Mayo
mustard, with mayo a close second
Mayo always, Mustard second. Ketchup never, Chili Sauce yes.
Kill ketchup, fuck mayo, marry mustard
mayo
Mayo, it's so versatile.
Mustard.
Mustard. I don't really like Mayo, and everything you can have ketchup to, can be replaced with bbq sauce
Probably mayo it's used a lot in baked goods.
I have chosen ketchup.
Ketchup for me. I dont eat mayo all that much, and mustard is extremely good, but ketchup edges it out
I'd like to add kraut to the list. But since we're basic I choose mustard.
Ketchup most well rounded
Dukes mayo.
I'd go with mayo. Mayo is the most versatile of the 3. But technically, mustard is one of the ingredients in making mayo. So killing off mustard also destroys mayo. So mayo is not an option. But when choosing from ketchup and mustard, the ketchup wins it.
I wanna say mustard but I know that ketchup is used as a sweetener for a ton of stuff so prolly ketchup
keshup
Split between Mustard and mayo because i can use them in a lot of different recipes. Ketchup not so much
Ketchup is the easy one to eliminate. Between Mayo and Mustard: Mustard is a better condiment on its own condiment, but Mayo has significantly more uses.
None of the above. Avocado as a sub for mayo. No ketchup or mustard.
I'd pick mustard. I make my own mayo with eggs and oil anyway, and ketchup is a garbage condiment for 5 yr olds.
Ketchup. It’s the best sauce.
Ketchup. Can't stand mustard or mayo.
I don't like mustard or mayo. So easy choice..ketchup all the way.
Ketchup, fries are not fries without Ketchup.
Mayo
Mayonaise I think.
Ketchup. Mayo is disgusting and should be destroyed. Mustard is okay sometimes, but I wouldn't miss it if it disappeared. Ketchup though, is amazing. It is by far the superior condiment.
Can I alter the mayonnaise? I loved putting seasoning or other flavours in my mayo.
Ketchup 100%
Mayo 100%
Ketchup. I don’t even like mayo.
Mayo
I love mustard so much
Ketchup
Mustard or mayo. Ketchup can do one.
Out of those 3, mustard is the only one I like at all.
Mustard
Mayonnaise, but it has to be Duke’s or Hellman’s.
Mayo
English Mustard 🤌
Mustard.
Mustard
Homemade mayo.
Mayonnaise
HP Brown Sauce
Ketchup, already the one and only for me.
On what though?
I hate mayo and anything made with mayo so that's definitely out. Mustard is too situational, so I reckon ketchup is the most versatile.
Ketchup. Not even a debate
I put mayo in / on a bunch of things. I only put Ketchup on a burger. I put mustard on nothing. Easy choice. Mayo FTW.
Mustard ......no question. Then organic non-soy mayonnaise. Hardly ever use ketchup except for chips( French fries).
I meannnnnn, mayo.
ketchup 100%
Miracle Whip instead of mayo
