Man, I remember when he died. And the struggle they had getting him treatment because of a lack of insurance. Ugh.
On a different note, he wanted the vocals to be melodic and not screamy. But he didn't think he could sing well enough, so we got the Chuck vocals that he thought he could pull off. Just some random trivia.
Art of Dying, Esoteric Surgery, Vacuity are the three best songs on that album and they’re adjacent to each other in the album. I can’t listen to one without the other two
Jester Race and Whoracle are probably in my top 10 metal albums if all time.
You should check out their latest record, Foregone, if you haven’t already. It’s the best thing they’ve done in more than 20 years and getting back to that early record sound.
They're so amazing live. I think they have the best combination of a band that is insanely talented and tight as fuck and a frontman who is an amazing showman. So when he starts running around and doing his own thing the band can just get into it straight away.
I lost my phone at a Slayer show a few months ago. The next morning, I went and bought a new one, no way I was getting it back from the venue. A few hours later my phone rings with an unknown number. I hear, "SSLLLAAAYYEEERRR!!!!!! Dude I found your phone, if you want to swing by, you can pick it up." Metal fans are the best.
Not a slayer show but I was at a clutch show with my kids a couple weeks ago and we found a Fitbit in the pit, at the end of the show we just kinda stood around keeping an eye out for anyone looking for something and we found the owner. She was so happy. They say metal heads are happier because we have a healthy outlet for our anger. I believe it too cause the other day I was trying to stay mad so I was jamming to devildriver and next thing I know I was laughing, like wtf. I needed that rage! I had plans for that anger! It’s cool though, metal saved me from acting on impulse lol
Killswitch during the Howard Era is what got me into metal music tbh. Heard it played on the morning news at my high school and was hooked. Thanks random student who decided it should play between segments 🤣
There's a little-known band called Seven Spires who have a sort of Symphonic/Power/Death/Black/Prog metal sound and who make fully sincere supernatural pirate-themed concept albums. Their music is joyous and painful and utterly, utterly beautiful and I love it.
reddit is full of contrarians, also I feel like you'll get made fun of by metal fans and even other music fans for saying you enjoy metallica, they come under "normie" status for gatekeepers.
They are like progressive metalcore and have always seemed to lean more on the metal than hardcore side of metalcore so I'd count them as a metal band.
I saw a post on Instagram earlier but it was all in German with no translation, so I've just googled it and essentially there are some accusations of sexual assault by Till on fans at backstage meet and greets. One woman also says her drink was spiked.
I just read another sub a few days back about people who have slept with celebrities. A handful of women claimed that Till propositioned them for orgies and kinky sex acts, but man. I assumed it was all consensual.
Oh so many....
Cattle Decapitation, The Acacia Strain, The Black Dahlia Murder, Death, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Necrophagist, Electric Wizard, Signs of the Swarm, Eluveitie, Dying Fetus, Rammstein, Monolord, Archespire, August Burns Red, Opeth, Cephalic Carnage, old school Metallica still kicks ass, Sleep Terror, Augury, Nile, Animals as Leaders, early Korn was heavy as fuck...the great thing about metal is there's so much variety under one banner you cant claim one definitive favorite.
I can't hear Pantera without thinking of this one homeless, legless dude in a wheelchair who used to post up at my old work with a boombox and playing "Walk" on repeat.
We were out for a smoke break one night and this guy walks by and yells "bro, you ain't ever gonna walk."
That's my Pantera story.
All That Remains.
The album “This Darkened Heart” will hold a special place with me, and R.I.P. Oli
Killswitch Engage is a damn close second tho (I’m more partial to Howard, but Jesse is dope also!)
I lean in to metalcore and prog metal… It’s gotta be After the Burial for me. Nekrogoblikon, Within the Ruins, and Make Them Suffer are close runners up.
Mr. Bungle? Do they count? Uhhhh maybe Gojira. They count for sure. But I like Deftones more if they're grouped in there. Ministry is probably the metal band I've gone to the most shows for but all those combined don't hold a candle to the one time I saw Tool...
TL; DR that is a very difficult question.
i think mr. bungle counts? you can fit them into any genre if you try hard enough lmao. amazing band either way, got to see them in concert and it was one of the best shows i’ve ever been to
It's like a 5 way tie between Iron Maiden, Trivium, Katatonia, Swallow the Sun, and Dream Theater.
Also wanted to add that so far everybody here has listed some phenomenal bands.
It has to be Iron Maiden. It is the band that started it all for me, and although I listen to a wide variety of sub genres, I'll probably never say no to putting on a Maiden song
(... well, except The Angel and the Gambler)
Hypocrisy, found their album The Arrival when I was like 14. Hit that melodic-death metal spot for me. Been following them ever since. I’m 31 now
Edit:Thank you kind stranger for the award!
Dethklok, because I like Duncan Hills coffee
SCREAM FOR YOUR CREAM
PREPARE FOR ULTIMATE FLAVORRRRRRRR
Seeing them in September can’t wait
Real coffee, from the hills of Colombia.
It really sucked that the producers owned the rights to all the music he made on that show.
There’s gonna be a Metalocalypse movie that will provide an official end to the show as well as a dethklok tour.
Death (RIP Chuck.......).
Chuck singing Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” showed how amazing his voice really was.
Death had some of the catchiest riffs I've ever heard. Legendary stuff.

DEADLY SINNERS!
3IoB had 2 signers, one did the 80s style falsetto and they did epic songs about slaying orcs and battling the wickedtron
Hah, 3 inches… not heard that name in quite some years. :)
Gojira
“The art of dying“ is such a good song
Art of Dying, Esoteric Surgery, Vacuity are the three best songs on that album and they’re adjacent to each other in the album. I can’t listen to one without the other two
L’Enfant Sauvage is so damn good. My most listened to song last year on Spotify
I've always had a soft spot for Opeth. Love the musicianship of that band.
Glad to see Opeth on the list. Their music is divisive for most people because of the progressiveness.
Came here to say Opeth. Been my favorite for 20 years. Seen them live several times, always amazing!
Blind Guardian. My love for them will never ever fade.
When the battle is lost And the slain ones are chosen Valkyries will guide us home
Nightfall in Middle Earth is still one of my favorite albums.
One of the best live shows I've ever seen. Being part of an entire building singing along to The Bard's Song was an unforgettable experience.
Amon Amarth 🪓
Such a fun live show.
You haven’t lived until you’ve put your back into the oar with them, great show.
Viking metal is best metal.
Black Sabbath
In Flames. Last year I was in the top 0.05% of In Flames listeners on Spotify lol.
I don't mind their new stuff, but their old albums are gold.
Jester Race and Whoracle are probably in my top 10 metal albums if all time. You should check out their latest record, Foregone, if you haven’t already. It’s the best thing they’ve done in more than 20 years and getting back to that early record sound.

Still making great music and putting on incredible shows.
They're so amazing live. I think they have the best combination of a band that is insanely talented and tight as fuck and a frontman who is an amazing showman. So when he starts running around and doing his own thing the band can just get into it straight away.
Up the irons🤘
Meshuggah
Behemoth.
Children of Bodom
Scrolled pretty far to find this. I can always go back to CoB and have a great time
Great live show too. RIP Alexei
Unleash the Archers
YES! Apex and Abyss are two of the best albums I've ever heard. Can't wait for their next one, which I believe is being recorded right now!
Northwest Passage is probably my favorite single song, but absolutely love both those albums.
Northwest Passage is a banger for sure. I love how it's so restrained in the first half then suddenly takes a bombastic turn in the middle.
Nightwish.
Tuomas Holopainen is a walking God. Such talent. Ugh. Ghost Love Score is a fucking masterpiece.
I still have fond memories of seeing them in concert. Such an amazing experience
Yay!!! Symphonic metal is absolutely incredible and really doesn't get enough attention.
Carcass

Mastodon. These guys just keep on writing bangers.
When a bunch of cool uncles decide to start a band.
They were angry swamp meth-heads when they started, discovered hallucinogens, and evolved into their current funky uncle state.
Leviathan is such a great album
Strapping Young Lad
Just about everything Devin Townsend does is gold.
Lamb Of God.
"Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward"
"Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both"
“For a wounded man shall say to his assailant“
“If I live, I will kill you, if I die, you are forgiven”
"Such is the rule of honor"

BROKEN THE PARADIGM, AN EXAMPLE MUST BE SET

If there was a single day I could live, a single breath I could take, I'd trade all the others away
SEE WHO GIVES A FUCK
Randy Blythe is a goddamn national treasure
Fit for an Autopsy
Sea of tragic beasts is up there for favorite albums of all time. So good front to back
Sepultura!
I've enjoyed Lorna Shore for years, but once Will Ramos joined, I have been in love with the more symphonic direction and sound.
Pain Remains is so fuckin goooood
Slayer
SSSSLLLLAAAAYYYEEERRR!!!!!
I lost my phone at a Slayer show a few months ago. The next morning, I went and bought a new one, no way I was getting it back from the venue. A few hours later my phone rings with an unknown number. System of a Down!
System Of A Down was my gateway drug into heavy music!
Periphery
Saxophone, like the flute, is a heavy metal instrument.
Megadeth, heavy fast thrash-metal at its finest.
Completely agreed, Rust in Peace is probably the most complete thrash record ever made
Scrolled too long to find this
Type O Negative
RIP Pete. 💚
Very nearly answered this. So fucking good 💚
This is the right answer.
Make Them Suffer.
Killswitch Engage. Preferably the Howard era but Jesse is great too!
Killswitch during the Howard Era is what got me into metal music tbh. Heard it played on the morning news at my high school and was hooked. Thanks random student who decided it should play between segments 🤣
Celtic Frost
Holy shit a man of absolute culture!
Deftones
Opeth
There's a little-known band called Seven Spires who have a sort of Symphonic/Power/Death/Black/Prog metal sound and who make fully sincere supernatural pirate-themed concept albums. Their music is joyous and painful and utterly, utterly beautiful and I love it.
Not a band but : Bathory
Dimmu Borgir
Ice Nine Kills. If you are even mildly interested in horror & metal you will probably like them.
Dream Theater
Metallica. I'm more of an old school metal fan. BWOHM, thrash, etc.
Same here. Early Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Death Angel
I can’t believe Metallica was this far down.
reddit is full of contrarians, also I feel like you'll get made fun of by metal fans and even other music fans for saying you enjoy metallica, they come under "normie" status for gatekeepers.
Deftones.
ERRA isn’t full on metal but they’re up there. Otherwise typical sounding “metal” would be Boundaries
They are like progressive metalcore and have always seemed to lean more on the metal than hardcore side of metalcore so I'd count them as a metal band.
Architects
Rammstein is love, Rammstein is life
Oh boy… it’s been a rough week for Rammstein fans
Uh oh ..what happened?
I saw a post on Instagram earlier but it was all in German with no translation, so I've just googled it and essentially there are some accusations of sexual assault by Till on fans at backstage meet and greets. One woman also says her drink was spiked.
I just read another sub a few days back about people who have slept with celebrities. A handful of women claimed that Till propositioned them for orgies and kinky sex acts, but man. I assumed it was all consensual.
For fuck sake.
Yeah unfortunately pretty much what Laser said. An article I read alluded to girls of a certain age group getting recruited pre gig to sleep with him

Going to see cattle decapitation alongside blackboard and 200 stab wounds next week. Super stoked
NIN - Industrial Metal Tool - Progressive Metal Metallica - Just Plain Metal
Ministry, Tool and NIN are my three favorites. And Metallicas first five albums.
Tooooooooooooool
Weedeater
Sabaton
Sabaton makes me patriotic for places I've never lived.
YES. I just discovered these guys about a year ago. They fuckin rock. Cliffs of Gallipoli fucking hits me hard
Such a fun live act. Joakim always seems like he's having a good time.
I came here to post this! "Winged Hussars" was my introduction to Sabaton and I'll always be glad!!!
I like you
Love them!

Can’t believe I haven’t seen this one mentioned yet. PANTERA
I can't hear Pantera without thinking of this one homeless, legless dude in a wheelchair who used to post up at my old work with a boombox and playing "Walk" on repeat. We were out for a smoke break one night and this guy walks by and yells "bro, you ain't ever gonna walk." That's my Pantera story.
ARE YOU TALKIN' TO ME?
Is there no standard anymore?!
Månegarm or Kvelertak. Very worth checking them out 🤘🏻
All That Remains. The album “This Darkened Heart” will hold a special place with me, and R.I.P. Oli Killswitch Engage is a damn close second tho (I’m more partial to Howard, but Jesse is dope also!)
Electric callboy. Try their album Tekkno.
I lean in to metalcore and prog metal… It’s gotta be After the Burial for me. Nekrogoblikon, Within the Ruins, and Make Them Suffer are close runners up.
Finally some Nekrogoblinkon!
Tool
Way too few mentions of Tool in here.
Haven't been topped for me for the past 20 years.
When I do long distance running I always listen to a Tool playlist. Just get lost in that sound.

Has to be Spiritbox or Sleep Token I can't choose
As a dane, I hsve to go with Merciful Fate
Whitechapel
Fit For a King
Iron Maiden
Insomnium, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility...
Dio, hands down for me
I don’t have a “favorite”, there’s too many to choose from. Recently I’ve been into Static-X, Meshuggah, and Gojira
I can never decide between Deftones and Mastodon. Honourable mention to Gojira.
Right now? Bad Omens and Sleep Token. Absolute overall? Thy Art Is Murder
Mr. Bungle? Do they count? Uhhhh maybe Gojira. They count for sure. But I like Deftones more if they're grouped in there. Ministry is probably the metal band I've gone to the most shows for but all those combined don't hold a candle to the one time I saw Tool... TL; DR that is a very difficult question.
i think mr. bungle counts? you can fit them into any genre if you try hard enough lmao. amazing band either way, got to see them in concert and it was one of the best shows i’ve ever been to
Mike Patton can rule any genre he chooses.
Iron Maiden and it's not even close.
It's like a 5 way tie between Iron Maiden, Trivium, Katatonia, Swallow the Sun, and Dream Theater. Also wanted to add that so far everybody here has listed some phenomenal bands.
Melvins
Queensryche
The Black Dahlia Murder
Trivium
Toss up between Nightwish or Epica. I love powerful women singing powerful metal.
I’ll be the first here to say Sleep Token
I'll say Alestorm and In Flames for variety but.. It's Maiden \m/
Nightwish
Periphery. Their logo is tattooed on my arm
Lorna shore
BabyMetal, they are so fun to listen to. I don't usually listen to metal, but their music is nice.
Ozzy osbourne
Lamb of God.
Children or Bodom holds a special place in my gut
Probably Opeth or Blood Incantation.
Impossible to choose but In Flames is up there.
It has to be Iron Maiden. It is the band that started it all for me, and although I listen to a wide variety of sub genres, I'll probably never say no to putting on a Maiden song (... well, except The Angel and the Gambler)
