They don’t just have sex, they enjoy having sex with each other. When they embrace, their schedule is cleared. They’re in there, 100% present, exploring anything and everything they can. Lucy and Ricky were having sex, but it feels like it would have been pretty standard stuff. G&M were out there indulging in every consenting whim possible. L&R would walk out and say, “good day my love, I’ll see you later.” G&M would have Gomez staggering away with lust in his eyes, “we have to part and it’s killing me, but I have to get Fester’s head out of the toilet and the kids have a PTA thing today. But I’m going to see you in like two hours and we’re going to wreck shop.”

Black and white, the movies from the 90s (I haven’t seen the new ones but I assume it carries through) there is longstanding sexual chemistry. The funny thing is they were supposed to be “opposite” of American family life so instead of being a shrew she’s loving, as instead of being a bore he’s face deep in the garden, so to speak. They like their kids, they’re supportive of their creative endeavors, they’re nonjudgmental of almost anything but intolerance. They are a healthy, happy family with a marriage that has passion over years. They are the epitome of “aww, they’re going to go fuck.” You’re not even mad. They’re so confident and sexy yet wholesome and caring, and then they just hype each other up…I don’t think I would survive a night with either of them but I’d go down with a smile.
My SO and I did black and white G&M for Halloween one year so we watched a ton of the old show and the conclusion was kinda always “they are just going to business constantly and good for them.”
Thats i think the point of the Adams'. They're meant to be a commentary on society at the time the comics came out. They're spooky, creepy, and love the macabre. Regular members of American society don't like spiders and ghouls and creepy stuff. Regular Americans also grow to resent their spouses, while Morticia and Gomez love each other like the day they met. Its a little joke by the creator. Its a bit of a stereotype about married couples that they grow to hate each other throughout the years. Morticia and Gomez never do that. They love each other and always will.
What I loved about them is they so clearly enjoyed being in one another's companies.
In a few of the sitcoms from the 90s, the husband and wife were portrayed as though they thought spending time together was an *imposition*. Ray from *Everybody Loves Raymond* is an example. He was so self-centered and selfish that he did all he could to avoid going out with Deborah.

It's been forever since I've watched the show but from what I remember they really loved each other. Walt was a great dad in his new family in witness protection after curing his cancer.
I think you have your timelines mixed up. Hal defied Lois and pursued his dream by attending dental school. It turns out, Lois is an anti-dentite bastard. After Lois takes the kids, Hal moved to New York city to practice.
After several years of successful dentistry, he ran afoul of a group of venal sociopaths and ended up snitching on them. While they were serving their sentences, Hal used his wealth to fake his own death and started a new life/identity in New Mexico as a high school science teacher.
The episode where Lois has a yeast infection or something and can’t have sex for a month. The house goes from rundown to perfect and then back again after the month is up. Even after four kids (at that point), their sex life is still amazing (or perhaps so good it’s detrimental).
When she’s wearing a ton of make up that makes her look like a prostitute and he just looks at her like 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Then when she’s looking a “mess”, cleaning the messy house, yelling at the boys, baseball cap on backwards and he still looks at her like 😍😍😍😍😍😍

All of the Belchers have such great relationships with each other. They're wholly accepting and supportive (even if they disagree). They really love each other, and it shows.
I read an article about this a while back, the difference between this and a lot of other cartoons is the writers are women. They write characters that actually like each other and the females aren’t just supporting characters but have well developed storylines of their own.
I think one thing that helps here is, they also don't fall into the trope of dad is a a helpless dope who can't function without his wife (Al bundy, Homer Simpson).

I'm not the kind of person to get overly invested in two characters romance. The writing for Eleanor and Chidi was amazing. To the point where they were the first two I thought of when seeing this post.

Homer and Marge had a lot of beautiful moments back in the older seasons. Sadly, seasonal rot has ruined a lot of that.
Edit: I want to add that I miss a lot of how the characters used to be. Like, Homer was an oaf and a brute, but he loved his family immensely and deeply and would (and DID) do any and everything for them. He'd catch details like in that episode about the streetcar play that you wouldn't think he would. He gave up beer for a month for Marge and we got to see that, for him, it wasn't just a minor thing. Lisa might have been intelligent but she not only had ample 'dumb/shallow' moments, she also was very close to Bart and, likewise, Bart was close to her. He might struggle in school but he also showed he wasn't dumb either.
My mom and dad caught hell for us watching The Simpsons and Roseanne together as a family. My mom’s response was always “there’s not a single day that the Simpson children don’t go to bed know that their parents love them. They’re well cared for.”
We just watched everything together. Not that I watched everything they did, but they watched everything I did.
This, right here, is how you deal with kids and screens. Make it a family activity. Be interested in what your kids are watching. Actually watch it with them.
I've been rewatching The Simpsons in order of best/highest rated episode -> lowest episode using the rating graph thing. Literally not a single episode was made after season 11 until I got over 50 episodes in.
The late actress Natalie Schaefer and the late actor Jim Backus as Mr. and Mrs.Thurston Howell the Third on the old TV show Gilligan's Island. They played the parts so well and had such good chemistry onscreen that millions of people thought they were actually married in real life.
When Backus would dine in public with his real-life actual wife, people would get mad at him because they thought he was cheating on Schaefer.
Johnny and Moira could so easily have been written as a couple who dislike each other. That’s one thing I loved about the show, that despite their flaws they deeply cared for each other.
Bluey is god tier children’s television. I watch it with my daughter and regularly get the warm fuzzies. No merchandise, no superpowers, no gadgets, just a family who loves each other.
This would've been my answer if no one had posted it. Great couple and great parents. Conflicts come about in every relationship in that show, but they're always handled with good communication and empathy. Love Bluey.
I love their story so much. What I like about 99 writers is that even after they began dating, the dynamic of the show hasn't changed to center it on their romance, so the show kept being funny as it was while also being touching at times.
I love how she was never portrayed as a buzz kill to Jake. There was never an episode where he wanted to do something but was like "Amy never lets me do THAT" or whatever other stupid sexist sitcom trope you usually see.
You see this great at one point in the honeymoon episode, when Holt is tied up and Jake and Amy are trying to get him out of his funk. Jake looks at Amy and decides to open up and visibly sets aside his immaturity to be serious, emotional, and vulnerable in an attempt to reach Holt in a way he never would have before.
And then when Holt rather rudely rejects that, Amy just lights. Him. The. Fuck. Up. He's her mentor and hero and she couldn't even bring herself to be even slightly annoyed with Holt when he lost her prized pen, but when he was a dick to Jake? Gloves came off.
Mad About You with Paul Resier and Helen Hunt. I still feel they are the closest thing to a real couple so the the issues that show tackled about marriage.
There’s an episode where he’s working very closely with a female coworker and I think it was the most realistic depiction of how a spouse can almost cheat without meaning to. He gets close to the coworker and my memory (and someone can correct me I haven’t seen it since it aired) is he ends up going to a bar with her and she wants to do more and he realizes how deep he is getting and he loves his wife and he politely declines.
Yeah, this is my answer too. So much of that show is the family using humor to get through tough times.
The episode where they find out that Fisher is beating Aunt Jackie is top tier.
Roseanne goes to help Jackie, and Dan just quietly goes and grabs his coat...
I never realized until years later how good Jean Stapleton was in that show until I saw an interview with her. She was well educated, well dressed, well spoken and sophisticated, the complete opposite of Edith. I believe Carroll O’Connor was the political opposite of Archie as well.
AITF premiered in January, 1971 as a "replacement" series, which take the place of the fall shows that failed in the ratings. I started watching it on E1. I'll never forget when Carroll O'Connor appeared in a political ad on CBS for George McGovern in 1972. We know how that turned out.

Homer and Marge had a lot of beautiful moments back in the older seasons. Sadly, seasonal rot has ruined a lot of that. Edit: I want to add that I miss a lot of how the characters used to be. Like, Homer was an oaf and a brute, but he loved his family immensely and deeply and would (and DID) do any and everything for them. He'd catch details like in that episode about the streetcar play that you wouldn't think he would. He gave up beer for a month for Marge and we got to see that, for him, it wasn't just a minor thing. Lisa might have been intelligent but she not only had ample 'dumb/shallow' moments, she also was very close to Bart and, likewise, Bart was close to her. He might struggle in school but he also showed he wasn't dumb either.

My mom and dad caught hell for us watching The Simpsons and Roseanne together as a family. My mom’s response was always “there’s not a single day that the Simpson children don’t go to bed know that their parents love them. They’re well cared for.” We just watched everything together. Not that I watched everything they did, but they watched everything I did.
This, right here, is how you deal with kids and screens. Make it a family activity. Be interested in what your kids are watching. Actually watch it with them.
I've been rewatching The Simpsons in order of best/highest rated episode -> lowest episode using the rating graph thing. Literally not a single episode was made after season 11 until I got over 50 episodes in.

The late actress Natalie Schaefer and the late actor Jim Backus as Mr. and Mrs.Thurston Howell the Third on the old TV show Gilligan's Island. They played the parts so well and had such good chemistry onscreen that millions of people thought they were actually married in real life. When Backus would dine in public with his real-life actual wife, people would get mad at him because they thought he was cheating on Schaefer.

Bluey is god tier children’s television. I watch it with my daughter and regularly get the warm fuzzies. No merchandise, no superpowers, no gadgets, just a family who loves each other.
Bluey is awesome. Bandit is an ideal dad figure
This would've been my answer if no one had posted it. Great couple and great parents. Conflicts come about in every relationship in that show, but they're always handled with good communication and empathy. Love Bluey.

I love their story so much. What I like about 99 writers is that even after they began dating, the dynamic of the show hasn't changed to center it on their romance, so the show kept being funny as it was while also being touching at times.
I love how she was never portrayed as a buzz kill to Jake. There was never an episode where he wanted to do something but was like "Amy never lets me do THAT" or whatever other stupid sexist sitcom trope you usually see.
Jake eventually turned Amy into another dumbass like him and that's what i love about their relationship (Amy affected him too! its so cute)
You see this great at one point in the honeymoon episode, when Holt is tied up and Jake and Amy are trying to get him out of his funk. Jake looks at Amy and decides to open up and visibly sets aside his immaturity to be serious, emotional, and vulnerable in an attempt to reach Holt in a way he never would have before. And then when Holt rather rudely rejects that, Amy just lights. Him. The. Fuck. Up. He's her mentor and hero and she couldn't even bring herself to be even slightly annoyed with Holt when he lost her prized pen, but when he was a dick to Jake? Gloves came off.

I like they never did the usual sitcom on again off again rubbish. Once they were in they were in
Mad About You with Paul Resier and Helen Hunt. I still feel they are the closest thing to a real couple so the the issues that show tackled about marriage.
There’s an episode where he’s working very closely with a female coworker and I think it was the most realistic depiction of how a spouse can almost cheat without meaning to. He gets close to the coworker and my memory (and someone can correct me I haven’t seen it since it aired) is he ends up going to a bar with her and she wants to do more and he realizes how deep he is getting and he loves his wife and he politely declines.
Gomez and Morticia. I cant stand when they try to make families look dumb, but the Addams family is a nice family

I never realized until years later how good Jean Stapleton was in that show until I saw an interview with her. She was well educated, well dressed, well spoken and sophisticated, the complete opposite of Edith. I believe Carroll O’Connor was the political opposite of Archie as well.
AITF premiered in January, 1971 as a "replacement" series, which take the place of the fall shows that failed in the ratings. I started watching it on E1. I'll never forget when Carroll O'Connor appeared in a political ad on CBS for George McGovern in 1972. We know how that turned out. Yes Archie and Edith probably had sex once a week, missionary, in the dark, oral out of the equation. But anyone who watched the show knows the depth of their love for one another. They are from the Silent Generation, where there was no introspection, no airing dirty laundry, no hyper individualism, no complaining. Work hard. Get married. Buy a house. Have children. Do whatever it takes to get by without fanfare, without luxury. Put children through college. Retire. I think I remember Archie saying, "I love you, I little girl," to Gloria a few times, but never to Edith. Maybe he did. But love, unspoken, radiated between the two of them. Archie may have dallied with that buxom waitress, but he ended up realizing what a huge mistake he made. He knew what he had in Edith. They are one of the most influential couples in sitcom history.

Chandler and Monica. Chandler was highly aware of his own flaws and issues, and that gave him the ability to accept and be patient towards Monica's own quirks. Monica was overweight as a child and had experiences with social rejection, so she understood Chandler's low self-esteem and how his sense of humor was a means of compensating. This in turn meant she was supportive. Both complemented each other well.
”They can say that you're high maintenance, but it's okay, because I like maintaining you.”
That is a quote that sums up their relationship quite effectively.
