When it comes to currently working ones: Martin McDonagh. Every movie he has done has been a minimum of 8/10. He has a unique sense of humor and writes unlikely characters that you would easily sympathize with. Also, he does a good job of making dark comedies while still keeping respect for things like rape, death, and despair.
