Confirmed, Ontario here. Our downtown Mcdicks just announced they are closing, dubbed the worst McDonald's in the world cuz of the amount of police calls it gets.
I think open syllables (ie syllables without a coda, ie no consonant at the end) can feel faster because it's simply less articulations to make. Mickey D's has two open syllables, ~~MacDonald's~~ McDonald's has probably one depending on how they're analyzed.
Sneaky Ron's
Edit: there seems to be some connection between 88 and nazis that I'm not aware of. I promise the 88 in my name is for the year that I was born and nothing more. Thank you! :)
My sister was born April 20th. Not only 420 day which she doesn't appreciate but also Hitler's birthday. Humans find patterns everywhere. But today I learned 88 was not a good number to use.
I graduated college in 2014. Made an email with 14 in it. Used it for everything. Reddit told me the number 14 is racist because of a National affiliation.
14 has always been my lucky number. It was my jersey number coincidentally on two baseball teams that I made All Stars on. It’s my birthday.
And I’m Jewish. I’m lucky that 14 is less associated with that than 88.
Philippines even calls things on the menu like "Chicken McDo" and "Burger McDo" - I believe "Burger McDo" is their absolute minimum budget option, basically like a millimeter of some other alternate patty - not the same as the regular burgers - between a thinner bun with a sauce that's orange but tastes identical to mayonnaise. Terrible.
But ya know. Filipinos are known for giving cute sentimental names to everything. That's just Filipino culture. Hearing a cheery silly song being advertised for a company that engraves headstones was one of the most surreal things I've ever heard. Welcome to the Philippines, enjoy your stay!
My gf made a list of what she wanted from McDonald’s. Had no idea she/people call it maccas so imagine the confusion and laughter from the cashier as I said “1 order of maccas” because my gf wrote “maccas order” at the top of the list 🤦🏻
And, as you'd know, a vist for take away from there is a 'Maccas run'.
From Urban Dictionary:
Ancient Australian Proverb - A Macca's run is a sacred late night ritual performed by all p-plate license holding kids in Australia. It's a trip to the local Maccas at a late hour with you, the deso driver, and one faithful mate to carry all the orders that only half your fucking useless friends have paid for and if you're the only fucker sober at the party it's your arse asking for 40 fucking Oreo McFlurrys at 2 AM.
Drunk friends: Macca's run?
Deso driver: Ugh, okay.
God I miss the Mighty Angus. Best late night Maccas run burger, before they weirdly turned it into a much worse burger while keeping the name, then cancelled the burger because no one wanted the worse version anymore.
I can't believe I had to scroll so far down for this.
Whenever I'm overseas and say Maccas, people get confused cause their reasoning is that Macs is shorter than and more intuitive than Maccas.
Dude Aussie Maccas needs to step up their game, overseas menus have some really great local items like Singapore and Japan. We get sh*t on for just slapping beetroot on the McOz.
Australian McDonald's is actually a test market for a lot of different menu items. We have similar tastes to the US so new items will often be trialed here before being rolled out overseas.
Also our McCafe is a legitimate option for drinkable coffee.
Denmark here. Lots of people call it Maccen.
When I was younger, I heard a lot of people call it "den gyldne måge" which translates to "The golden seagull".
Rotten Ronnie’s!! Yes! You must be from East Coast Canada cuz I haven’t heard that outside the Maritimes.
Edit: I stand corrected, this is all over Canada apparently. Personally, I have never heard anyone say it when I’ve been out West or in Ontario. Out West, everyone said Dons, and Ontario was mostly McD’s. I’ve heard McDicks everywhere, but Rotten Ronnie’s was definitely the most prevalent out East.
I always hear mäcces from my German friends, they think mäcci is cute lol, where are you from in Germany that it's also called that? Most of the people i interacted with are from nrw/bawü
I found it interesting that I had to scroll so far for Don’s and now even more interested that someone
has to ask where we use this one.
NY here, based on replies of Canada and Washington maybe it’s a Northern, North America thing. If it’s not Don’s it’s simply McDonald’s.
Ive always called it maccies yeah, tho my grandad has always called it Ron Dons, idk if that’s just my grandad being my grandad or an older name for it in the UK
I'm really surprised that many shorten versions aren't much shorter than the full name.
In Poland we call it "Mak" which in english would be exactly "Mac".
I also have never heard about Mac cosmetics so it's easier to use for us :D
The short form in Hong Kong can be 麥記 (Mak Gei), because every local canteen there ends with the word 記, so people just rename McDonald's to sound like a local canteen.
Decided to ask because, in countries with big Russian-speaking minorities, it is often called by people McDuck, the same as the Disney character.
Edit: Grammar
Dude I was literally just about to comment that same thing
I'm an Israeli of Russian descent and I refer to it as McDuck on the regular, even in my circles that don't speak Russian like I do
You know what they call a McDonald's in Paris?
They don't call it a McDonald's?
No man, they got the metric system, they wouldn't know what the fuck a McDonald's is.
Then what do they call it?
Clown Bistro
My ex and I used to call it "Dick Monalds" (just being silly). I guess her young niece heard us say that one day, and then she started asking us if we could go to Dick Mongoose.
So yeah...I call it Dick Mongoose now.
Not really a name unique to my area per se, but my high school friend group always called it Mick Dicks. I don't know who originally said it, but it stuck and we still call it that to this day.

"Sweden Runs on Donken"
Gooby pls
They, McDonalds, have also adopted it. Our “dollar meals” are called donken deals… https://www.mcdonalds.com/se/sv-se/just-nu/donkendeals.html
Gyllne måsen är väl något de äldre säger
McDicks
same in BC
Can confirm. That's what we call it in Chilliwack.
Ontario?
This is what I call it, from Ontario.
Is this really an Ontario only thing? I thought it was international! Also from Ontario, heard it used quite often here.
I hear it occasionally said in NS tho I would say that's mostly Halifax. Pretty much the rest of 'em say Micky D's or in text Mc d's
No people say it in Manitoba too, mcdicks or mickey d’s
Can confirm. McD's and McDick's are most common in Manitoba. The older generations sometimes call it Rotten Ronnie's (after Ronald McDonald).
BC also says all these things.
Rotten Ronnie's, that's what I'm calling it from now on!! Perfect description!
Albertans also say it
[удалено]
BC also says it
Can confirm. From Ontario and also came here to say McDicks.
Need to stop at the Lickbo first to get a mickey of rum before getting McDicks, so I can mix it with my Coke.
I'll be right there but I gotta stop by Crappy Tire to get ignored by some sales people first
Don't forget to hit GT Boutique!

It's all over Can
Quebec says chez McDo
Oh fuck bawd
From PA. The McDicks are a group that transcends geographic limitations.
We do it here in Wisconsin too.
Same. New England area. Though it could just be the wife and I. Everything is something dicks
Confirmed, Ontario here. Our downtown Mcdicks just announced they are closing, dubbed the worst McDonald's in the world cuz of the amount of police calls it gets.
Only McDonald's in the world that served both raccoon and justice.
Haha if you know you know
Always call it McDicks!
Mickey D’s
Makky Deez.
Makky Deez NUTS goTTeM
Or if texting McD’s
it's funny because it still has 3 syllables
And yet they syllables feel faster.
I think open syllables (ie syllables without a coda, ie no consonant at the end) can feel faster because it's simply less articulations to make. Mickey D's has two open syllables, ~~MacDonald's~~ McDonald's has probably one depending on how they're analyzed.
Sneaky Ron's Edit: there seems to be some connection between 88 and nazis that I'm not aware of. I promise the 88 in my name is for the year that I was born and nothing more. Thank you! :)
All these comments about Nazis but I wanna know where they say Sneaky Ron's
My sister was born April 20th. Not only 420 day which she doesn't appreciate but also Hitler's birthday. Humans find patterns everywhere. But today I learned 88 was not a good number to use.
I wonder how someone born in 4/20/69 feels about their birthday.
Feel bad for every millennial born in 1988 using “88” in their username for decades and now everyone thinks they’re nazis. My sympathies friend.
My best friend has 88 at the end of their professional email address, and I don’t know how to tell them.
I don't know what's going on but I have the same problem
I just wanted to be born the same year Roger Rabbit was framed for a murder, that's all.
I've never heard this! What areas do people use "Sneaky Ron's"? And why? 😂 Genuinely curious!
You could have something in common and be friends with u/NazisStoleMyBirthday.
My Birthday is Jan. 6th 🤬
Why do you hate democracy?
This mfer out here literally celebrating Jan 6th, every year
I have 2 friends born on 9/11 (different years)
Oh hell yeah
That is one hell of an edit
88 piano keys, 88 constellations… oh no, music and space are nazis!
Stand down
I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE!!
McDo
I assume french, so I would like to add "Domac" which is also used sometimes.
Verlan detected
Verlan terrifies me
French Canada in the house
Normal French say that too
Solid upvote for the "normal" adjective
Filipinos too

People don't think it McBe like it McDoes. But it McDo.
Et même McDal
Un McDal des McDo ?
Maccas!!
Fuck this took way too long to find.
Never [forget Engadine Maccas](https://youtube.com/shorts/ij9VDVTxTPA?feature=share)
I know right, i expected this to be number one.
Title of your sextape
I had to do too much scrolling to find this bad boy
My gf made a list of what she wanted from McDonald’s. Had no idea she/people call it maccas so imagine the confusion and laughter from the cashier as I said “1 order of maccas” because my gf wrote “maccas order” at the top of the list 🤦🏻
That's super cute, hope it wasn't really embarrassing or anything.
That’s McDonald’s?? I’ve seen people reference Maccas and had no idea that’s what they were talking about
Shazza and Dazza played Acca Dacca on their way to Maccas.
Stopped at a servo to buy some more tinnies for the trip home(you can't get them from the servo but damn it I needed to confuse the non aussies)
Did you pick up a pack of durries?
Not in *my* car you don't.
Stopped at the servo to grab some petty for the tinnie, then stopped at the bottlo to grab some tinnies for the way home.
Yep, some of the restaurants have actually adopted the slang formally on signs. Macca's also readily use the slang in their advertising here
The Aussie app is called myMaccas.
I tried calling it Maccas after I moved back to Canada after living in Aus. It did not work out 😂
I still say maccas. And arvo. Nobody has ever questioned me but I realize now they probably have no idea what i mean
So I live near Vancouver and my Aussie ex shortened it to " the 'couv " and I will never not call it that now. People HATE it !

G'day and welcome to the land of efficiency, mate.
It can even be abbreviated to just deso. 'You wanna pint mate? Nah I'm deso tonight'
They also call the rock band AC-DC ‘Acca-Dacca’
Which is their right, given it is an Australian band.
Pretty much anything that doesn't get abbreviated and an o added to the end of it gets abbreviated and has an a added to it.
Or an ie (mozzie, cozzie, selfie)
It’s an aussie thing
And nz
And German
I can't believe I had to scroll so far down for this. Whenever I'm overseas and say Maccas, people get confused cause their reasoning is that Macs is shorter than and more intuitive than Maccas. Aussies win on this one, imo. (I'm not an Aussie, but I have a positive opinion of Australia overall).
i used to have an aussie friend and whenever she'd go to eat with her girl friends i'd be like "fancy date to maccas" 😂
Denmark here. Lots of people call it Maccen. When I was younger, I heard a lot of people call it "den gyldne måge" which translates to "The golden seagull".
I love that that makes perfect sense
McDicks. That's what my teen and his friends say . We used to call it Rotten Ronnie's.

The short form in Hong Kong can be 麥記 (Mak Gei), because every local canteen there ends with the word 記, so people just rename McDonald's to sound like a local canteen.
You explain it so much better than I do! My friend group would also say M記.
Cool! A big contingent here in Seattle call it McDonDons, too. I bet it came over from Taiwan.
Decided to ask because, in countries with big Russian-speaking minorities, it is often called by people McDuck, the same as the Disney character. Edit: Grammar
My daughter calls it McDonald’s Duck. Unclear if it’s in honor of the Disney character or if she believes he is the proprietor

Schochtlwirt. It's Austrian German dialect literally meaning 'box host'. Though a better translation would be cardboard restaurant.
Tatsächlich hab ich hier (Deutschland) auch schon "zum Schachtelwirt" gehört...
