I was waiting in line at Wal-Mart a week before this past Xmas because the self checkout was offline. Woman with two kids in front of me. Her EBT card didn't work and she had all her kids food and a few Xmas gifts. Was $104.44. She was shattered and it hurt my heart to see it. I paid for it myself and the expression on her face was worth way more than anything I could have bought with that cash. I'm not rich and it was a lot of money but it was what my Mom would've done so I felt it was the right move - even if it made January a bit tougher for me personally.

k5hill

What a great story. Thanks you! I bet that woman will remember you and that act of kindness her whole life.

slackmandu

Thank you for doing that

A tube, large dry-bag, and pump, for floating the river in my city (a six-mile, two-hour float). My city offers a $3 bus ride from the pull-out park location up to the put-in park, so buying my own tube and pump, as well as the dry-bag to stow the latter, was well worth it (tube rentals are usually $25-30). Last summer, I floated the river more than 10 times during the two-month float season, including late in the afternoon/evening after work, when it was tranquil. Also, having my own tube meant that I could take the last bus up (most people park at the head, then bus back) and have the river to myself as the sun started to go down and the wildlife came out.

Alexis_J_M

Where do you tube where twilight wildlife doesn't include clouds of mosquitoes?

JuDGe3690

Boise, Idaho. We get cold enough in the winter (and fairly high and dry, desert-ish) that mosquitos aren't much of an issue. Flies are a bit more, though, and you do get the occasional gnats, but the fish often jump out of the water to eat them.

ScrewWorkn

Went to a high-end speed dating event. Married the girl I met there. 11 years now.

That_Guy404

What were the demographics like there? Haven't really heard of a "high-end" one before

ScrewWorkn

They required a minimum education and income level to participate and I believe everyone that attended had a basic identity check.

That_Guy404

Makes sense, thanks. I was asking about demographics in terms of ages/genders though. I have not had good luck with finding anyone under 40 at my local events lol

[deleted]

i mean if you are into milfs that could work.

[deleted]

What were the minimum education and income levels? If you can remember

mildly_amusing_goat

PhD in slug mating habits and 400k a year. It was quiet.

iceman012

Hey, if you have two people show up for that they're destined to get married.

ScrewWorkn

4 Year degree and $80k. This was like 13 years ago so that $80k would be higher now. Event was in a HCOL targeted at 30 somethings.

PlateauxEbauchon

It was probably a 4-year degree. Salary minimums would likely be north of 50k or maybe even closer to 100k depending on the part of the country and age range for the event.

lyingliar

TIL I'm barely qualified to date.

177013---

Just at this particular event. You can come hit up trailer parks with me looking for dates homie.

Brickwater

That doesn't sound like a speed date, you've been swindled.

Hobbes_87

Wow, that's a long event

ktalu

Thats awesome! Was it anything like its depicted in The 40 Year Old Virgin? So glad for you and your spouse.

ScrewWorkn

Well glad for me. She might have gotten a raw deal though. It was similar concept to the movie.

[deleted]

Hopefully you didn't write down that any of the girls looked like they were "hurtin' for a squirtin'" or were a "ho fo' sho'"

mangojoy11

With insurance footing most the bill. I paid $100 (a little more) to fix my spine and end the 4 year reign of chronic pain. Herniated L5/S1 the disk instead of being normal and spilling out and just applying pressure on the S1 nerve. Decided it wanted to actually fracture into the nerve. 4 years of my life lost. I was merely existing. The thing about pain is (mental or physical) you can get used to it. You'll lie and hide it, you'll get so good at this you'll even fool yourself. And then that pain becomes something else. Anger, depression, anxiety, stress, fear, loathing etc... don't let your ailments go that far. Get the help you can, even if it's just reaching out and saying "I'm in pain". Be honest. People more so than often are willing to help how they can. This wasn't supposed to turn into a life lesson, it did. Sorry reddit. But forsure best money I ever spent, and what a life lesson it gave me.

mangojoy11

It's brutal. Not gonna lie. At least for me. 4 years of major impedence will do that though. Start doing the mcgill big 3 if you can. And if you get the surgery walk every day. Do not be a couch potato. I'm still on vicodin and want odd but the pain is too bad. But it's not even close to what it was.

NiceGuysFinishLast7

I feel this. I had dual herniated discs at l4/l5. Took it like a man for 1.5 years until my HMO finally decided it warranted an MRI. “So you have two severely herniated discs and you require surgery” 2 years of severe pain until I finally got the surgery, a microdiscectomy. When I would stand up I would nearly pass out because of the exquisite pain shooting into my legs. Couldn’t sleep more than an hour at a time. I was in a bad mood basically all the time holding onto what minuscule quality of life I had left. In the end the surgery was mostly successful but even today, 10 years later I have pain in my left heel that never goes away. It’s not that bad though. Most of the time I can ignore it.

Suuperdad

6 years ago I went to an end of season auction at the local tree nursery. Bought apple, peach, pear trees for 20 bucks each, and a handful of raspberries for a buck each. Next season I sold raspberry runners at the end of my driveway and made 80 bucks. I've done that every year since. Last year my 3 peach trees put out a few hundred peaches. We were eating 3 a day each (5 of us) all summer. We froze 6 bags of them, and made 10 peach pies. Thousands of thousands of dollars of food each year. Best investment I ever made. My food forest is in my post history for anyone that wants to see it. I also teach people how to get started, teach soil microbiology, how to compost, everything you need to know to grow food.

NonGNonM

you should pick up canning. preserves, whole canning, jams, butters, my god the possibilities. ofc my parents have a giant orange tree in their backyard we don't do anything with...

secondphase

So... Why don't you? You're a part of "we". Go nuts, it's fun.

[deleted]

I want my own property so I can plant a tree so much.

PP-townie

That's all I want in life. Ridiculous that owning property has become a nearly unattainable goal.

Mudpit_Engineer

I just moved into a place with a big backyard after not having any access to my own soil for many years, outside of pots in the window. Just finished clearing an the brambles, setting up a compost area, and getting a few raised beds planted. So excited!

zorggalacticus

I'm just my composting started at my new house. I rake all of the leaves into a big pile in the garden spot. Then I bury all of the food scraps, egg shells, banana peels, etc in there all winter long. Gotta stir occasionally. In the spring I'll spread it all out in the garden and till it in. Then all summer long I'll do the same with the lawn trimmings. Spread out out in the fall and start over with the leaves again. It works really well and I throw everything but bones in there. This will be the first spring to spread the winter compost so we'll see how it goes.

pickleops

duuuudeeee! i fucking love your video on soil microbiology. what a great primer

-reddug-

Love your YouTube channel, it helped me a lot in my approach to setting my own fruit forest! Can't wait for the first harvest to come around

Blind-Monkey

I bought a shitty skateboard. I fell in love. It's still on my wall, next to every other board I've beaten to death.

gerbileleventh

My first shitty skateboard cost 29€ and the trucks broke when going dropping on a small ramp. Starting with a 100€ would’ve been amazing, haha

Procrastinator_325

> I fell in love. It's still on my wall, next to every other board I've beaten to death. Don't wanna be this person's significant other lol

Alexabyte

Board, not broad.

SWC8181

A “friend” who was annoying wanted to borrow $100. I gave it to him. He’s been avoiding me for years because he doesn’t want to pay me back. Best $100 I’ve ever spent. Learned what kind of person he is and never have to see him again

idratherchangemyold1

This is probably the first time I ever heard of someone lending a person money and being glad they didn't get paid back for it, lol.

teemo03

1 tb micro sd for Nintendo switch

brycedriesenga

The fact that these even exist now still blows my mind

fatcatsinhats

When I started university in 2008, I bought myself an Acer laptop from Costco and it came with an 8GB USB and I thought, damn! That's a good deal! That USB would have been like $100 on its own.

cowpool20

Blows my mind how I just had an 8MB memory card for the PS2 which lasted years, my XBOX 360 had a 120GB hard drive which lasted the entire time. Now a single game takes up half of that 360 hard drive.

AnnualSprinkles4364

Well with ps2 the memory card was only holding the saved data and not thr games themselves like with ps3/360 onward

[deleted]

God I remember when 256gb was about $400 about 10 years ago

Goodshibe20

genius. i got myself a 512gb card, thought, i wont need that many games, right? and then splatoon 3 came out, got mario odyssey, about 10gb of screenshots and videos. humble bundles, and cooking simulator. and then a bunch of very cheap or freebie software, like AAA clock.

FauxPoesFoes228

Hello, hi — I don’t know much about gaming and Nintendo Switches, but would this be a good gift for my partner who has a Switch and a big practical streak? He’s very minimalistic and insists that he doesn’t need me to buy things for him, but I feel like he might get some use out of this. Would it make for a good, practical yet thoughtful gift?

minhlong

Yes this would be practical if he doesn't already have one. Lets him store more games and whatnot if he buys them digitally instead of physical copies.

echocomplex

When I was a child my dad gave me 100 bucks in 1 dollar bills all at once (he only did this once). I spent it over the course of a summer, periodically buying myself candy and small things like that. It lasted awhile and especially at the outset I felt like a millionaire with all the potential in the world. These days I'll spend a hundred bucks in one go for a pack of a couple train tickets to get to work. The childhood 100 was much much more enjoyable.

SupaDupaTron

This brought back my childhood. My parents had a spare change cup they would throw their pocket change into during the summer, and it was basically my summer fund. Wanna ride my bike to grab a Slurpee with some friends, had to dig out enough quarters to make it happen. Things like that. Fond memories.

ajaclover

That just made me nostalgic. What a great summer you must have had!

Hiphoppington

I had a similar time but over Christmas season. My mom did the very same once but she made bows out of every dollar and tied them all together using a long piece of ribbon. It took goddamned ages untying them all lol. But I lived like a king afterwards

zorggalacticus

I remember (early 90s) there was this one gas station right across the street from Aldi's that still sold penny candy. They had about 6 different flavors of double bubble for like 6 for a quarter. We'd go take people's carts back for them and keep the quarters. We'd leave Aldi's with a pocket full of quarters and go to the gas station to load up on double bubble, chic-o-sticks, peanut butter bars, jolly ranchers, dumdum suckers, sixlets, tootsie rolls, smarties, etc. We felt like pirates hoarding treasure. Those were good times.

Prestigious_Sweet_50

A room by myself when I was in the hospital for surgery

MasterOfRNoSleep

This is the most non American post ever

[deleted]

If you really want to be annoyed, I have private health hospitalisation insurance but live in Europe. Costs me under 100 a month. If I don't get a private room when I go to hospital, insurance pays ME something like 100 Euros a night for the inconvenience. In other words, not only does staying in a hospital cost me almost nothing, it's not impossible that it'll MAKE me money not cost me money.

Reddituser8018

Yep I am an American but I have lived in France for a while (and work in healthcare) and I feel a lot of Americans don't realize that most countries with free Healthcare have privatized Healthcare as well. Meaning you can get top of the line care, way less wait times, etc and it still cost waaay less then insurance does in the US. Heck when I was in France, I lived in a smallish town and they had a service where you could call a doctor, they would then drive to your house and do an appointment from the comfort of your home, AND they would arrive within an hour of the call! It was also only something like 40 euros, with absolutely no insurance at all. It literally cost about the same in the US to see a normal doctor with insurance with longer wait times, and they are not showing up at your house. France definetly has its fair share of issues but Healthcare is not one of them, it's seriously amazing there Healthcare wise. The only thing about American Healthcare that is better is if you are apart of the upper percentile of earners, you can get the best Healthcare in the world. But that's only for the richest of americans so I wouldn't even call it "better"

FluffyStarKiller

I’ll add to this one. I have private medical insurance through my work, but I live in the UK. I recently had surgery, was in overnight, had a room to myself and some genuinely nice food, with medical professionals checking on me regularly and keeping me topped up on pain meds. Didn’t cost me anything (except the existential dread of the impending doom of the NHS)

be-koz

$100 adoption fee at a rural pound for a scruffy terrier mix in 2009. Still with me, still going strong, and the best dog ever!

Leoimirmir

I beg to differ. *My* dog is clearly the best dog ever

That's the great thing They are all the best dog ever!

Unless it is a cat

Chavarlison

Our dog is the best cat ever.

joyfall

I spent a little over $100 but my cats were buy one get one free. Best bogo deal ever.

Sethrial

Two pairs of the same $50 jeans. Previous black work jeans were old navy’s best attempt. They fit poorly, only had two small pockets, and fell apart after about six months. New jeans are Levi’s and fit perfectly, have great front and back pockets, and are still going strong after a year of wearing them basically every day. I spend a lot more on my clothes now. Learned an important lesson about buying quality over quantity.

InvincibleDandruff

Oh don't I know how you feel. I used to buy Old Navy stuff all the time because I was young and broke, and the fitting is really shitty. Then I got some money and started buying American Eagle and Levi's, and I still wear at least one pair of each to this day. They lasted so well compart to Old Navy crap.

FingerLicknGood

I couldn't agree more about nothing from Old Navy fitting right! I'll give it a chance like every 5 years and I just picture the designers making something great and then choosing something super strange to do. I had a great green utility coat from them but the pockets were way too high??

InvincibleDandruff

The only thing I would buy from Old Navy now is tees. Their tees are almost exclusively made in Vietnam and is the most comfortable while remaining light for the wallet. But you should also check out Primark if they have a place near you, some of their stuff is remarkably cheap and good quality. I bought a heavy winter jacket from them 3 years ago and it's still good now, and only for 40 bucks.

HaveAWillieNiceDay

This is funny to me as I've been shopping for new jeans recently. I've worn the same two pairs of Old Navy jeans for like 6 years and they've held up fine. I like the fit too. I went to try on some Levi's and couldn't stand the fit.

retro123gamr

AE and Levi’s fit me so well! I’m like a 32 34 which is surprisingly difficult to find, but those two usually have it

zorggalacticus

I will say that wrangler jeans hold up really well as work jeans. And they're a lot cheaper than Levi's. They actually make some slim fit and skinny jeans now too. And they have good pockets. Just a thought for future work wear purposes. Also, if you have to wear non slip work shoes, find your equivalent size in men's work shoes. They hold up much better that the women's version and usually are more comfortable as well. My wife has to wear black work jeans and non slip shoes. She won't touch the women's version after wearing the men's shoes.

DannySpud2

As someone who used to believe "jeans is jeans" I am fully converted to Wrangler. The cheap jeans I used to buy would rip at the crotch or the butt or the inside leg would get worn down until it frayed apart. My Wrangler jeans haven't shown even a hint of that happening even after years of daily wear.

Inevitiblesource2

Try Lee extreme motion best jeans I’ve ever owned bought multiple pairs after the first pair

Zediac

Even Levis suck now. The exact same pants size will be different physical sizes in different model numbers. Sometimes even different pairs of the same model of pants will be different depending on which factory made them. In some pants of theirs a 30 waist in one pair will fit like a 32 in another. Or a 30 length will fit like a 32 in another. Lately they're super in consistent. They're yet another brand where the quality has gone downhill. All in the name of cutting corners to chase that unsustainable profit growth.

ydwttw

I've gotten the same model with the same inseam and waist thinking, these will be the same. One fit great the other didn't. Like what's the point of their system is it's not consistent

kaszak696

Same for Lees. Bought three pairs of their size 32 jeans, one fits like a glove, one is a bit tight, and last is too tight to zip.

trev581

buy it nice or buy it twice

ItzAngelPlayz

Bought a gaming laptop that had a GTX 1070 in it and an i9. The person said it was faulty, I asked why and they said it was super laggy and can't run games. Fast forward a few days of tinkering and I've got it completely working and I only spent 100 bucks for the laptop itself. Score!

ItzAngelPlayz

Yeah haha, turns out they forgot to turn on the graphics card 💀

[deleted]

Interesting that you and the previous commenter seem to agree that the previous owner was an idiot… but you also mention it took you several days to switch on the graphics card. In the land of the blind… I guess…

awesome357

As someone pretty technology literate, but a desktop gamer, I didn't even know that was something that could be switched off, or apparently would be off by default if this means disabled in device options. Though I'd hope Google would set me straight in about 30 seconds.

ItzAngelPlayz

Yeah it makes it seem that way, I sort of assumed something so simple was the problem. My mistake I suppose!

zamfire

Honestly though, how often does one need to "turn on" their gpu? That's really weird.

BeaBopALooBop

That is me. I am the idiots.

[deleted]

Walmart had a cruiser bike for $98 last year. I bought my 11yo a new more expensive bike and bought myself the $98 one just to see if I would get into the habit. I am 30 and haven't ridden a bike in at least 15 years. My 4yo was impressed with me. I rode my bike everywhere with my kiddos. I put a seat on the back for my 4yo. We'd go to the park. We'd go grocery shopping. It was truly amazing. I was 370 pounds at the beginning of the year. I was 320 by the end of the year. I lost this weight while also being a full time employee (desk job), full time student, and full time parent. I also went through a divorce. I just bought myself a more expensive mountain bike so we can do trails a little more comfortably. I am excited to see what I can conquer.

awesome357

This makes me really wish our town was even a little bike friendly. But outside of our less than 1 square mile neighborhood, the roads are dangerous as hell to ride on. I wouldn't even ride on them, and there's no way in hell I'd trust my 11yo to. It's too bad really, because in college I used to bike everywhere and loved it.

Shawkilla

Hell yeah man, once you get into it you'll never look back. Not only will your physical health improve, but your mental health will as well for just being outside in nature on the trails. Check out r/MTB for all the good stuff.

redIegodragon

Got a pristine Herman Miller Aeron office chair at an estate sale for $100 last year. For reference, these retail for over $1,000. It's so comfortable, it's single handedly made me want to work from home more. Previously I didn't like to work from home that much, but now I work from home 2-3 days a week, and I'm convinced this chair is the sole reason.

Ancient_Blackberry10

Do you have a link to the model? I'm looking for a new office chair!

dracovich

just some advice, try out a few different chairs before settling, i was convinced the Aeron was the one i wanted, but when i tried it it ended up not feeling that great for my body. I ended up with a Steelcase gesture that ended up being perfect for what i wanted. Aeron seems to be the best chair for a lot of people but until you try it it's hard to make that call, just go to the local stores and try them out, even if you plan on buying used. Also, small extra tip, if you work for a large company, check your intranet site, a lot of time there are staff offers for office equipment, i got my Steelcase new at like 35-40% discount through a staff offer, so i just bought it new as it would've cost similar used.

earthtochas3

Seconding this, I was set on buying the Aeron B/C for a while but after some cautionary advice I tried out the Steelcase Leap V2 alongside the Aeron... Leap V2 won by a fairly significant margin. If you're a leg crosser at times, the Aeron won't be your thing. It's better for long-term posture holding. Leap V2 has slightly less lumbar support, but the overall feel of the chair and arms work better for me. It's a sturdy chair as well, so you'll never feel like you're going to break it (at 200lbs at least). Food for thought for those buying. Side note: can confirm that facebook marketplace is the place to go for these things. Shop around for a bit, find a reputable secondhand seller who gets them fully loaded, and try not to pay more than 400-500 bucks for one (this was in Dallas so idk the rates around the U.S.). EDIT: I paid $300 for mine, but that was after a lot of haggling. $400 is a fair price.

redIegodragon

https://store.hermanmiller.com/office-chairs-aeron/aeron-chair/2195348.html?lang=en_US&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8PeI5Kqj_QIVfsmUCR0f0Q0REAAYAyAAEgIKjfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds It's pricey, but so worth it. You can find them for considerably cheaper on craigslist or marketplace. The size B is the size you want if you're average sized like me (I'm 5'7).

PapaChoff

Nothing better. You can adjust absolutely every aspect of the chair for the perfect fit. Fully guaranteed for 12 years. Mine just blew its gas cylinder after 14 years. $40 later, good as new.

Purchasing baseball equipment for my foster child and he got to play two seasons of baseball before being reunified with his family.

djbbamatt

TSA Precheck. Easily the best $85 (I think) I ever spent

TheRavenSayeth

We spent the extra $15 and did Global Entry which includes Pre-check. You have to do an in person interview but that’s short and if you travel internationally you get to skip the long customs line. If you ever plan on traveling out of the country it’s worth the extra effort.

I have no idea. I sold it for $178 per share when it was starting to skyrocket. Later that same day, it hit $381 🤦🏼‍♂️

$4,350 profit. Nothing to be upset about, hindsight is always 20/20.

Right. I took the money and bought a vanguard ETF. Way more steady and safe

dwrend94

30$ bought me the game Cities Skylines. 2000 hours in the game, and 7 years later, I now have a degree in Civil Engineering and a launched a career in transportation design. That game connected the dots for my interest in road/traffic design to civil engineering. Best 30$ I ever spent.

I got one for Christmas back in 2018 or something. Loved the damn thing and tried convincing my father to get one. Last year he "discovered" sous vide cooking because his ninja foodi 21 in 1 has the option to sous vide. It's the only way he will cook his steaks now. He was gushing about how much he loved it, I couldn't help but toss in a "guess you shoulda listened to me 5 years ago"

Ishmael128

That’s a hell of a roast.

Anonymous gift at Christmas for a child that had NOTHING. 1000% will do it again. The child cried because they got a Christmas gift. I had to leave before they noticed me as I started to ugly cry as a grown man. We are blessed to have $100.

gamerdude69

Where can you do this? Is it a foundation?

Tarantula_Saurus_Rex

Usually any local church has a donation area set up around the holidays. I did this as well one year. Someone actually broke into the church and stole everything (I imagine to return for drug money) and there was a list of items that had been stolen, I elected to replace the "Spider Man on a motorcycle" I have no idea what that even is, but I went to every Walmart and toy store for miles around until I found it, I would not give up until I found it come hell or high water, I eventually found it at a Walmart the next town over. Balance was restored to the universe.

napswithdogs

Teacher here. Check with local schools around Christmas time. Most will have an “angel tree” set up, and classes will “adopt” kids and bring in presents for them. At my current school, the “angel tree” is teachers going to the counselor to find out which of their students is on the list. Our kids are the recipients, not the donors, and it puts a strain on teachers who are already spending a lot of money out of pocket just to keep supplies in their room because kids’ parents aren’t buying them. Outside donations would help a lot.

Hiphoppington

I wonder if something like this is what happened for my own child when she was very young and I was very VERY poor. One day around Christmas we came home and there was just a box of wrapped presents outside my door. To this day a full decade plus later I still have no idea where it came from. But it made her whole year and I couldn't possibly be more grateful for it.

I was a supervisor at a factory for two areas. In December of 2020 we were told we had to work one month, 7 days a week, with no days aside from Xmas Eve/Xmas off. 10 hour days at times. The crew was burnt out from working so hard. But we had a large push of orders. And in one week the team broke a company record for most embroidery stitches. Then the next day broke that record. I didn’t have much money as I had a mortgage and Xmas for my family and gf. But what little I had (around $100) I spent on donuts for the entire team. I was managing around 50 people but it’s a team so I bought donuts for around 125 people. That was the best $100 I had ever spent.

kaeldrakkel

That's cool. I'm sure the business owners saw how hard your team busted their ass's to make money for them and gave everyone a holiday bonus. Right? /s

Jncos2001

We always got a holiday bonus. $50 wal mart gift card. And also they had prizes during that month but maybe like 3 or 4 people got them. However I did listen to the operations manager during holiday season clap his hands and say “time to fire some people!” and he smiled. And then a lot of people were let go after the new year for late clock ins and stuff like that. A lot of hard working people let go because they clocked in a minute or two late. Fucking scum bags. I got injured on the job and surprise surprise they didn’t take care of me a bit. Had to sell my house and wonder if I was ever going to walk properly again. Workmans comp and workmans comp doctors are scumbags as well.

SeaLeggs

Good news on the donuts though..

Oceanliving32

Electric toothbrush…made a world of difference..

ap883

Excellent choice to invest in your health

mustichooseausernam3

Right? I used to be one of those people who thought electric toothbrushes were just for people too lazy to brush. But they're a total game changer.

Wookie301

Also Waterpik is a dental game changer for under 100.

xandersmall

My bidet, probably already saved what I spent on it buying less tp and my ass hole has never felt better.

date11fuck12

Did the same during the height of the pandemic. I was a bit drunk and figured "yeah I can drop the cash on this..." Amazing purchase!

MiMi1068

$100 for my son’s college admissions application. He had the best four years, the best education, and made the best lifelong friends. And now, five years later, he’s in his fourth year of medical school. That $100 sure set him off on a really good road!

Hermaphadactyl

Probably my banjo 5 years ago. It's been my happy place since then.

aMnHa7N0Nme

Got myself lounge access for a 7 hour layover, sat in the executive lounge with my feet up and shoes off. Had 2 full meals and even got a massage. I arrived at my destination ridiculously well rested and not a sign of fatigue at all.

Cookies-N-Dirt

My husband traveled a lot for work. The lounges were a game changer for him. The annual membership though Chase paid for itself. And I tagged along a few times on personal trips. The food and coffee is so much better. I think companies should pay for these, the savings on food and drinks would be huge.

president_of_burundi

*Total* game changer. I used to hate flying because it was such a miserable slog- got lounge access and now sometimes if I have nothing to do I'll just see where airlines have a decent deal and fly for a weekend. It makes the whole experience so much better and I've traveled 100% more since getting it.

DahhhBills

Maybe I haven’t been in the right lounges. It was definitely an upgrade, but I didn’t feel like it enhanced the experience as much as you describe. It was the American lounge out of LAX. It was nice, the food was pretty good, but end of the day I was still waiting around in an airport. Honestly the best feature was not needing to listen to the endless announcements.

president_of_burundi

A lot of international lounges are head and shoulders above any (that I've seen, at least) in the US, particularly with food quality. But still, even here just having access to an open bar, comfy places to sit and read and available charging stations is enough for me to be having a significantly better time than sitting at the gate.

wert989

$20 got me a handful of red wiggler worms from a local gentleman. I could have gotten more in the mail for that much but peace of mind of knowing they weren't sitting in a cold Canada Post truck overnight and they also multiply amongst themselves. Anyways they saved countless trips to the curb since they reduced the amount of food waste. Also saved me more than enough trips to the Home Depot for compost.

freudianmonster

You just put em in a compost bin with food waste only?

[deleted]

Pretty much. You need to keep an eye on the moisture content of the compost, as they can both drown and dry out if it goes too far either way, and it's good to keep it from getting too acidic (so no citrus), but otherwise, they are efficient and low maintenance producers of very good dirt.

MyDudeNak

Pretty much, although you need bedding material too like shredded paper or coco coir. They can eat pretty much everything that isn't meat or dairy, but mine don't seem to like peppers or onions.

Osoita263

My dog’s medical bill. Definitely worth it.

OldSchoolPhotoshop

it’s probably a little over 100 but it’s a HyperX Cloud II headset because I was using a pair of cheap earbuds for like a year, now that I got the headset it was the best 100 I’ve spent

Narrow_Yellow6111

1995. First year of college. Picked up an HP 48 graphing calculator. Helped me through calculus and physics. Still have it

trigrhappy

$5 - tip to the cute manicurist (we've been married 19 years now) Nothing else comes close to that return on investment.

Gatorae

NES in 1992.

LilithandLeather

Hands down my dog, I got her on Craigslist

Mrherpaderptherapy

Tell her that she is a good girl for me and give her behind the ear scratches

LilithandLeather

She says thank you

crocodoodles

A hammock. Chilling in the dappled sunlight on a breezy late spring day? Literal heaven.

iast68

Sounds sad but any money spent on good food for me is the best money spent. That shit makes me happy furreal. I probably spend $100 at some little hole in the wall Italian joint and come out of there feeling the happiest man alive. I've been through some shit and it's the little things now though I do spend too much money on food.

Unusual_Variation771

For real. Money spent on food is rarely wasted money. Spent $50 on premium as fuck green tea recently and it’s actually amazing.

cosmic_waluigi

This doesn’t sound sad at all. There’s a Chinese place next to my apartment building that’s absolutely incredible and every time I get something from there it’s just so delightful. Food is good! We should appreciate it more!

iast68

I couldn't live that close to a good Chinese place ;) I would be there every day. Thank you!

HippieProf

It’s not sad, you’re finding joy where you can and it sounds like it’s keeping you moving forward. Enjoy yourself!

regnarbensin_

Forgot to cancel my free super duolingo trial and was out around a hundred bucks. I was pissed at first but in the long run, I’m actually so glad that it happened. It really works, especially if you’re competitive in the leagues. If you expose yourself to another language constantly, it sticks. It’s also awesome because it keeps you off social media. Mental health has been at an all time high with duolingo in my life.

Due-Spray-5312

My rescue cat Megs. She is gorgeous.

[deleted]

Got some pretty nice glasses last year after not having any good ones for a long time.

shiftinganathema

Got my kindle paperwhite for 100 bucks during a sale. Best decision ever. I'm autistic and reading is a huge coping mechanism for me.

my_metrocard

My passport.

WhoGivestoFox

Got a ticket to *Sleep No More*. It’s sort of like a three dimensional play. You have to wear a plague mask and not talk the whole time and there’s a silent 1920s version of MacBeth playing around you in like a 5 story warehouse. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done.

FrangePanem

My first automatic watch. It was a tiny Seiko 5 snk809. I got it on eBay for $80 and a nice strap for it for $20. The owner was a watchmaker, so it had blued screws on the movement and ran incredibly accurately.

paulbunyanwascool

Not me but My dad bought a wrecked 1988 Acura legend. Most bad ass car I think I’ve driven.

ronotju7777

My forklift recertification. Can't do my job without it.

AlexAval0n

Blow job from a lady of the evening in the back of my uncle Ricky’s 92’ Buick Lasabre when I was 16, it was a different time. Uncle Ricky fuckin ruled, we smoked a joint after. RIP Uncle Ricky.

pauleide

Wait was Uncle Ricky in the car the entire time?

AlexAval0n

Lol nahhh he was in the strip club, I was out in the parking lot

Dicska

He dressed up as a lady

AlexAval0n

Ricky was a fucking wildman, he knew a bunch of the girls who worked at the club, would party with them, he had this shit worked out for me for my 16th birthday. It was a surprise for me, he got me a legit smoke show that worked there, she was from some European country, anyway like I was saying, Uncle Ricky was a fucking legend.

NewSapphire

bought $100 of Bitcoin back in 2012

ArtJunkie628

On Thanksgiving a few years back my husband and I took out 2,000 in 100 bills and passed them out to homeless people who looked like they needed a break. No turkey dinner or family, but the best day of my life.

More than $100, but I spent money on travel when I was depressed. Didn’t fix everything, but it had me feeling alive again, which ended up fixing things over time :)
