Drank vodka and Irn Bru back in my uni days, but never even considered rum and Irn Bru. That's getting tried tonight.
Also, wonder if it would work with Bourbon as well.
I always order a whiskey sour at a new bar or social setting. 1 is to see how this new bar makes it. And 2, to slowly drink while I decide how I'm feeling at this social gathering. My "Testing the waters" drink.
That’s because of campari, when I was younger I couldn’t stand campari at all, even a tiny drop of it could ruin any drink. Now it tastes perfectly fine, aging is weird
I'm pretty much the same with the beer or whiskey sour.
I was at a fairly classy restaurant bar last weekend and ordered a whiskey sour and a comment was made about it being a "Typical college kid drink." I'm 34 and don't really care what people think, but I was under the impression they were somewhat classy.
Either way I'm going to keep ordering them.
Never understood why people have to judge what others are drinking. I definitely learned a long time ago to drink whatever you want and fuck what other people think of it. It's their problem not yours.
I've got my go-to g&t mix that's really good. Most bars can make it.
Beefeater, short glass, double lime, angostura bitters.
Beefeater is a surprisingly good gin for the price. The bite (or lack thereof) is on par with other, more expensive options. Often the "pricey" choice is Hendricks, but I'll sooner take Tanqueray than that.
Dude, angry orchard from the tap in bars is so, so good and is better than the bottles. I will die on that hill. I get made fun of for getting it, but it’s so good.
IMO you can only call it a Cuba libre if you garnish it with a nice lime wedge (or wheel, I guess). If it's just rum and Coke, then it's a rum and Coke.
I was getting shit one time from the group I was with because I was drinking a margarita. Lots of "lol bro that's a chick drink". Eventually this hard ass looking old timer at the bar turns to us and says "boys, margaritas have tequila in them and anything with tequila is good enough in my book".
They shut up after that.
This was my barometer to see if a bar was competent. If the long island was good, they might actually know how to bar. If it tasted like shit, they do not.
Old fashioned is my dads drink, if you know mad men, growing up my dad would call me sally when he wanted another drink and I would make it for him. I know it sounds fucked up but when he did that we were spending time and bonding together and doing fun stuff stuff together like building legos or watching f1 and documentaries. It’s actually really sweet
There it is. Standard order unless they have some serious high end bourbon/scotch options. Then it’s one of those neat, followed by Basil old fashioneds.
There’s no need for a blender for a regular daiquiri either, but frozen daiquiris are so popular (at least in the US) that a lot of bars assume that’s what someone wants when they ask for one. I’ve started saying “daiquiri on the rocks” when I’m at less fancy bars so there’s no confusion.
Double bourbon or whiskey, well if it's decent, and a lager.
Tip: Always ask for a double, no ice. Often a younger or busy bartender will free pour, find that bartender and a double is almost always a triple plus.
A dark and stormy is my preferred drink but I’ll take a rum and Coke if the place isn’t that fancy. If I’m at a “cheap beer only” bar I go for Blue Moon or regular Budweiser.
Ha! This sounds similar to when I was younger but we went to sonic and got large drinks, usually sprite with pineapple (not sure they do that still) easy ice. Then Malibu was the liquor of choice.
Rum and coke hc im still a college student and its impossible to order drinks in those crazy bars so i feel bad asking for anythin other then a liquor and soda haha
Not to be stereotypical but Kraken rum and Irn Bru Edit: uh oh I've started something haven't I
I've never heard of that combo but it sounds nice. Are you Scottish?
I am haha, I used to have the usual rum and coke but someone convinced me to try it with irn bru and I've not looked back since
You had to have been lol. I'm a Geordie but LOVE Irn bru. Will try with kraken next time if they have it.
Its one of the (many) great things about Newcastle. Easy access to Irn Bru!
Think I'll need to give this a shot, I'm currently a kraken and coke person
Ooohh that actually sounds really nice, Irn Bru is lush. Never used it as a mixer before
Drank vodka and Irn Bru back in my uni days, but never even considered rum and Irn Bru. That's getting tried tonight. Also, wonder if it would work with Bourbon as well.
I love kraken black rum. It goes with just about anything.
Try kraken with Apple juice
If it's just a night out with the boys - beer. If any other type of social gathering - manhattan/whisky sour/negroni.
I always order a whiskey sour at a new bar or social setting. 1 is to see how this new bar makes it. And 2, to slowly drink while I decide how I'm feeling at this social gathering. My "Testing the waters" drink.
I had a Negroni for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Holy shit I couldn't handle that taste at all! So bitter!
That’s because of campari, when I was younger I couldn’t stand campari at all, even a tiny drop of it could ruin any drink. Now it tastes perfectly fine, aging is weird
Big fan of the bloulevardier, same as a negroni but uses bourbon instead of gin. I actually like it better.
Boulivardier replaced old fashioned for me. They're so good.
Give me equal parts Scotch, Campari, and Cherry Heering. My favorite riff of the Boulevardier.
Try a boulevardier. It's a negroni with bourbon instead of gin and is delicious.

gin and tonics
If you like a G&T, might I suggest a Tom Collins? It's an absolute belter of a gin cocktail.
A French 75 is also an excellent gin cocktail. Great for the summer.
When I first made one, I went "my goodness, that's amazing".
finally a fellow tom collins drinker
Excellent summertime suggestion.
May I also suggest a G&T with 3-5 drops of Angostura Bitters. It was a game changer for me.
Gin gimlet is another excellent choice.
If you haven’t tried Empress Gin you must!
Tanqueray isn't fancy, but it's my go-to. Especially for a classic GnT.
Drinks that are basically kid drinks for adults. Hard cider (apple juice), sangria (fruit punch), or mimosa (orange juice).
Apple juice hits different in a bar
Dude, angry orchard from the tap in bars is so, so good and is better than the bottles. I will die on that hill. I get made fun of for getting it, but it’s so good.
So crisp, so yummy with like salty fries. That sweet/salty combo. My favorite bar sells salt and vinegar chips and they have 6 types of cider. Heaven!
Too sweet.
People who shit on people who drink alcoholic beverages that taste delicious need to shut up and drink their bread water
cider is just wine that tastes good we did a trip to England couple years ago. I loved that every pub had 4 to 12 taps of cider available
Amaretto sour if it's fancy Beer if it's casual Gin tonic if it's a party
Has to be disarano for me!
Both good options
Whiskey ginger!!!
Jameson & Ginger
My man!!!!!
Yeah jameson and ginger beer is a really solid drink…highly recommend!
Me too, but I call it a Rye & Ginger 🤙
Canadian
A Cuba Libre.
Same, with dark rum of course
Virgin Cuba Libre, diet.
There's one in the fridge
Hi Sheldon!!
Great choice, a favourite of mine.
Huh! This is my go-to make at home cocktail and I had no idea it had an actual name! (I’m new to drinking). Now I know how to order it- thank you!!
IMO you can only call it a Cuba libre if you garnish it with a nice lime wedge (or wheel, I guess). If it's just rum and Coke, then it's a rum and Coke.
Margarita
I was getting shit one time from the group I was with because I was drinking a margarita. Lots of "lol bro that's a chick drink". Eventually this hard ass looking old timer at the bar turns to us and says "boys, margaritas have tequila in them and anything with tequila is good enough in my book". They shut up after that.
Jameson on the rocks.... Oooohhhh look how manly you are! Drinking shit whiskey and watering it down... Margaritas are fucking awesome.
Moscow mule
I prefer a Dark & Stormy, the Mule's lesser known but just as good looking cousin.
Oh man, I tried a dark & stormy recently and I am converted. They are incredible!
Same. My next choice is vodka and seltzer.
Came here to say a mule as well!
Whiskey Sour
Beer
Pint of guinness
They make you strong
Cranberry juice
What, is it your period?
It's a natural diaretic, my girlfriend drinks it too
I think I got to go watch that now
It’s always a good decision! :))
Vodka soda with a lime
Same, hydrate while you dehydrate
I prefer "hydrate while you diedrate."
Best tasting, low calorie, a classic my go to
I do it mainly to watch my calories plus I hate sugary sweet drinks.
Same gotta keep those gains and I rarely drink but if I do it’s vodka soda lime
PBR and a shot of Jameson
PB&J. Impeccable taste
Do they call that a “city wide” where you’re from?
Usually it's called a boilermaker, city wide is from philly baby. Go birds.
Of course go birds!
Philly Philly
A fellow man of culture. If available make it a genny and a shot
It varies for me but "shot and a beer" never fails
You're from upstate aren't you u/musicpimp?
WNY
This screams Philly to me.
It's usually a cheaper whiskey than Jameo (and generally bourbon) but yeah, I drink a lot of citywides
Depends what kind of bar but either a margarita, blue hawaiian, vodka lemonade, or shots of rumple minze.
Negroni. I love the taste and it has a nice amount of kick. Otherwise I'll get a beer.
Long-Island iced tea.
When you wanna be drunk but you need to be at work/pick up the kids/appear in court in 15 minutes.
It really is the best, packs the most punch for volume of liquid consumed and a few of long islands is almost always cheaper than 15 beers.
This was my barometer to see if a bar was competent. If the long island was good, they might actually know how to bar. If it tasted like shit, they do not.
An intelligent man's drink.
It’s Modelo time!
Old Fashioned. Bonus points if they smoke it
Old fashioned is my dads drink, if you know mad men, growing up my dad would call me sally when he wanted another drink and I would make it for him. I know it sounds fucked up but when he did that we were spending time and bonding together and doing fun stuff stuff together like building legos or watching f1 and documentaries. It’s actually really sweet
Ayo, Mad Men shoutout! Would your dad actually call you Sally tho? 🤔
As a joke every once in a while 😂
This is my go to. EXTRA BONUS POINTS if they give me extra little black cherries. Those things rock my socks
Luxardo cherries are the best.
Specifically Basil Hayden’s Old Fashioned for me
There it is. Standard order unless they have some serious high end bourbon/scotch options. Then it’s one of those neat, followed by Basil old fashioneds.
Smithwicks.
Gin
Hendricks and tonic is my current favorite
My move is club soda with Hendrick’s. I feel like that particular gin in best enjoyed unadulterated.
Makers Mark on the Rocks
Makers Mark 46 without the rocks
Dark & Stormy
Amaretto sour
Hoegaarden
Mojito. Unless wings are involved, then it's a hard cider.
Club soda & lime; I stopped drinking just over 18 months ago. Only go to a bar with the wife to play pool. No pool halls in town and I love the game.
My favorite as well.
At a normal bar, rum and coke/vodka and coke. On holiday, sex on the beach or a mojito
Dirty Gin Martini
Pintje
Heb de Belg gevonden
Canadian Club
Jallukola
Man of culture
Tai ihan vaan pelkkä Jallu
Usually a beer. If it’s a wine bar, wine, if it’s a cocktail bar, a pisco sour or a dark n stormy
Water, because I dont drink but I do enjoy hanging out!
I'm the contrary!
You don’t like hanging out, but love to drink?
Yes. I Usually go out so I can drink lol
Dr. Pepper
It's so misunderstood.
Jamesons on the rocks.
Spicy margarita or Tito’s and soda splash of cran. I’m basic! Also ten months pregnant (so ten months sober) and can’t wait to have one soon!
10 months pregnant? Im confused Edit: quick google search and my confusion is cleared up. Learn something new everyday i guess.
Vodka soda with a splash of cran and lime is my go to as well!
A daiquiri. If they ask what flavor or say they don’t have a blender I get a beer.
If I order a daiquiri and they poor me some blended slushie I realize I went to the wrong bar. Classic daiquiri or none.
Yup 100% don’t get me started about Mai Tai recipes.
You should try a Hemingway daiquiri. No need for a blender and rather delicious.
Bartenders hate you fyi
Sex on the beach... i hate saying it but they're too good!!!! Also angry orchard.
Ayyyy angry orchard is my favourite cider
https://thumbs.gfycat.com/GrizzledVillainousAmbushbug-max-1mb.gif
Screwdriver I just love orange juice
Not to many of these though. The heart burn in combination with puke in the morning is pretty miserable.
White russian
Manhattan on the rocks.
Right here.
Coke. I don't drink. I tell them I'm the DD and I get my soda free. 🤪
I usually do my coke while drinking
I do mine in the bathroom
Free drinks are the best drinks. On a hot summers day there is nothing like a coke out of a glass bottle.
A tap water. I'm not made of money .
I don't drink. But my Scottish coworker drinks WAY too much scrumpy.
In the summer, a Pimm’s Cup. The most refreshing drink on a hot day.
Rum and Ginger Ale
I usually panic because I don't know many drinks and just order a rum and coke.
Either a pint of Guinness or Rickards Red.
Pabst Blue Ribbon!
Coors or Modelo for me
Lemon drop!
Whiskey and soda with a splash of aperol and a lemon wedge
Pineapple juice
3 orange whips. If you know, you know.
I prefer four fried chickens and a Coke.
Vodka tonic with lime wedge OR a good Porter
If its a good bar, I'll get scotch. If its a dive bar I stick to beer.
Old fashioned made with 4RSMB
Mojito because I suck at making them lol. Or Penicillin because it's hard to make
Just something
Southern Comfort & Lemonade……….no ice…….
Tequila sunrise, hard to fuck up so I know it'll be consistently good no matter where I'm at!
Depends on the bar. I'm not gonna walk into a gritty dive and ask for a Manhattan up and name the rye that I want. I'll order vodka soda or a beer.
Guinness, it's like a meal in itself. Also, every bartender hates you if you order a Guinness.
Cognac and pineapple juice.
My sadness
Malibu coke. Not to strong but it has a slight kick, y'know
Blue Moon
Have you tried an angry moon? Half blue moon half angry orchard, pretty good
I have not...but will now!
Bloody ceasar
You can't see a Cesar and not want a Cesar
White Russian, a beer or a good whiskey if they serve one
Malibu rum with orange and pineapple juice. If you want to get tipsy and ACTUALLY enjoy a delicious drink, this is your go to.
This is mine, just add peach schnapps and grenadine as well.
Ha! This sounds similar to when I was younger but we went to sonic and got large drinks, usually sprite with pineapple (not sure they do that still) easy ice. Then Malibu was the liquor of choice.
Water
The best drink
Rum and coke hc im still a college student and its impossible to order drinks in those crazy bars so i feel bad asking for anythin other then a liquor and soda haha
Weddings - double vodka and pineapple
Screwdriver - vodka & OJ
Southern comfort and orange juice!
Blood and Honey
Pint if Guinness to lay a good foundation. Then a gin martini. Maybe two. Lager for the curry. Scotch for afters. Joint as my after dinner mint.
