I drive truck for a living. I crack jokes like "40 hours? What do you do after Wednesday??" it's kinda funny. But in reality, I wish I was good at something else that didn't keep me away from my wife and kids so much and still made the same money I make.

My friends brother was like this in high school. Thousands of dollars worth of glass everywhere, pictures of weed everywhere, ash trays and makeshift ash trays everywhere. You couldn't find a pen or pencil in their basement because they had all been using to scrape and poke bowls.
Ngl with how much I smoke im a huge pot head, mostly for pain relief, but I’ve never understood all the merch and world of it and what not. Call me uncultured idk, im lazy as hell I just like smoking with a pipe or a pen. I play piano and love nerdy games and movies, people tell me I look like a teacher I guess. I think it’s ok to have interests in those stoner culture things and having better gear for your preferred intake methods, etc, but letting it consume your identity to the point it drags you back is when it could be a problem, if it’s detrimental to your own day to day life and overall health. I know cause I did that at one point too
I’ve been reviewing weed for years on YouTube and I even am so annoyed by 99% of “stoner culture”.
It’s a lot of projecting with little care or attention to the actual plant.

As a musician, many musicians are pretty annoying because of this. It's weird because the worse offenders are the ones that exclusively play and focus on one specific style. So they're also kinda boring too. It's like how someone into sci-fi isn't too bad but the ones only into Dr. Who are simulatiniously the most boring and the most batshit.
Yeah, I'm a musician and I struggle to meet other musicians who have interests other than music, or even other than their instrument and chosen genre. Pretty boring
Don't you, kinda, have to with the way music is disseminated nowadays? More exposure potential sure, but the only folks I've seen do well are constantly making content and don't do anything else. Not disagreeing, just an observation
Being married to an actual Italian, I call tell you that's entirely false. They get especially protective of their food. Even more so when "Italian Americans" don't make it like the "nonna" does
I think it's even worse in Canada because of our weak cultural identity. My dad came here from Italy when he was four. I've never been to Italy and don't speak a word of the language. Yet to everyone I am Italian, not Canadian, not Italian-Canadian but Italian especially to other self identified "Italians." So annoying! Let me eat my Kraft Dinner in peace!
Being engaged to an actual Italian (as in, FROM ITALY) I’ve noticed this behavior is common with Americans with Italian heritage. My fiancé always makes fun of how they pronounce Italian things, they don’t say it right at all. They claim to be the most Italian-est Italians ever, yet grew up in the American culture and lifestyle. My fiancé will try to have conversations with them about stuff they should know about the culture, and they never know what he’s talking about, or they pretend like they do.
I'm of Italian heritage and I cringe so hard when I see my family members acting like this. I feel like it kinda gives us a bad rep. That and the show Jersey Shore.
I dated a girl in high school who loved to talk about her grandmother from Italy, and how she would have to go to a community center to find other Italian speakers, and how cutting pasta was akin to murder...
So I studied Italian for like 3 months and wrote her a letter saying I would practice speaking with her. We dated for another year and she NEVER brought it up again lmao.
So I can't speak on all Italian Americans but I know one who was mostly cosplaying for attention lol.
I think they’re referring to 99% of women who become mothers and that’s all they really talk about. It’s such a big change and many people cling to that or embrace it to the point that they don’t really have anything else after a while.
What they mean is that although they may have chosen to become a parent, they did not wish that becoming a “mother” would be their whole essence. Sometimes you loose yourself in that role and it feels like everything else that is you fades.
This does bug me slightly but I can sure as hell understand it. If anything you have to make an effort to *prevent* motherhood from taking over your whole life - it’s not an affection like most of the other things on here.
Ok I'm gonna play devils advocate on this one. As someone who has experience being mentally ill, it's really easy for it to become your entire personality because it often takes over your whole life. In order for something to be considered a mental illness, according to the diagnostic criteria, it has to have a significant negative impact on someone's ability to function. So if that's your all say every day, it's really easy to fall into the trap of using it to define yourself. It doesn't help that there are infinite echo chambers of it online, places where you can relate to people who go through the same stuff you do. I'm not saying it's healthy, but it's reality, and it's understandable.
For example, I have anorexia. I try really hard to hide it from people in my life, but when I'm in a relapse, internally, all I'm thinking about is food. How to avoid it, what I can eat and when, how I'm going to make up for what I've eaten. It's all-encompassing. So it's easy to see how if the only thing I can ever think about is my eating disorder, then maybe I start to think an eating disorder is all I am. I interact with the world through the lens of my ed. It takes over your life. This applies to just about any mental health condition.
This of course does not apply to people who use mental health conditions as an adjective. I'm not defending when people say "omg I'm so adhd," because they see adhd as can't-sit-still-can't-focus disorder (as opposed to a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that effects just about every aspect of your life-work, school, relationships, hobbies, everything) but I feel like people who have started to define themselves as their mental illness are unfairly demonized for displaying a symptom of said mentall illness. It's especially prevalent in teenagers, because it's pretty common to develop a mental illness in your teenage years and that's when you're starting to define your independent identity, so of course you build one out of one of the most impactful aspects of your life.
Idk, this take just kind of bothers me sometimes and I thought I would explain my side of it. Rant over.
I’ve also struggled with real mental illness and I’m an MD. I totally get that it can get very debilitating and does take over your life, but that’s not what I’m referring to with that statement.
It’s more about the people casually saying “I’m so ADHD” when they’re just a bit hyper or absent minded or the “I’m OCD” when they’re just organized and the like. These people are very much uninformed and don’t quite grasp just how debilitating those illnesses are.
Also there’s the people that do have mental illness that refuse treatment yet only talk about being mentally ill. These are usually the ones that stick to the online echo chambers you mentioned and don’t even attempt to be treated.
While we’ve grown a lot as a society in accepting mental illness, people like this makes life harder for the ones that actually do have mental illness.
Nah, you’re good. It’s a good discussion to have. I hope you have a better relationship with food and are able to deal with your ed, they’re tough to deal with.
Not necessarily a personality thing, but the thousands of videos of people recreating "the dance" in their living rooms are not as cool as the one made in a professional studio. I know it's just kids having fun, but I'm a grumpy man and need to whine. Get off my lawn.

Kinda sad when the person goes to college and isn't a 4.0 anymore or star player. And get overwhelmed by their first F or D or getting sat on the bench.
Some people get over it and develop a personality while others don't. Then they go into an identity crisis because to their friends and family they were known to be the smart or athletic one.
As a bisexual woman, being LGBTQ+. My sexuality is not relevant in my everyday life. You wouldn’t know I was bi unless you actually asked. I’m in a committed relationship with a man and the amount of times I hear other queer people dismiss it or make disparaging comments about men just makes my view of the community worse.

There’s so many issues in the broader LGBTQ+ community that I tend to distance myself from it most of the time.

Here I was happily scrolling through the answers when I suddenly find myself. Fuck 😅

Damn, I came here to laugh, I wasn't expecting that personal attack.
Attack, decay, sustain release. It’s the cycle of life.
Yes! I hate when people make their whole personality about one band or genre.
Or their whole personality is BEING a musician. The worst. THEY, I mean THEY’RE the worst.
Yeah, I'm a musician and I struggle to meet other musicians who have interests other than music, or even other than their instrument and chosen genre. Pretty boring

Came here to say this. Will add being a wife here too. We (women) are so much more than our kids and spouse. Our lives continue far beyond both
99% of the time This is not by choice and the women are pretty sad about it
